Jinx waited in the cave for a good while. And all the while it made her ponder. What exactly was this "Chirin" going to do with her? He wasn't going to kill her, at least not right away. But would he actually bring her back to his cave to do that? No, he didn't seem the type. This creature seemed like a "to the point" sort of being. He wouldn't prolong something so simple as murdering someone...would he? Jinx supposed she would get her answer as she picked up the sound of Chirin's hooves against the ground. Looking up, Jinx noticed he had greenery in his mouth. He dropped them down in front of her.
"Eat," He bluntly said.
Jinx was stunned for a moment, but complied, cautiously at first. After the first taste, however she realized it wasn't dangerous!
"Mmmm!" Jinx exclaimed as she took another bite, then another, chewing softly but quickly. "This is really good!" She said as she swallowed.
Chirin stared stoically at her, "The mountain has ample vegetation. Enough to live off of at least."
"Is that what you eat?" Jinx asked.
Chirin stared at her, raising an eye as he did so.
For the moment, Jinx looked sheepish, "Well...I mean, I don't know what kind of food you eat? Do monsters-" At the moment Jinx mentioned the word, she noticed Chirin seemed to tense up, a snort escaping him, "Oh I'm sorry! I didn't mean to offend! It's just that-"
"No, you're right. I am a monster, but I don't eat other creatures if that's what you were getting at?"
Jinx blinked, glad for a moment feeling complacent she didn't offend, but it didn't break the awkwardness of the situation.
"Well...anyway...thanks for saving me from that Mountain Lion. For a second I thought I was going to be someone else's dinner!" Jinx exclaimed.
Chirin nodded, "No problem...but that doesn't change the fact that what you did was idiotic."
"Excuse me?" Jinx asked.
"Why were you up here in the first place?" Chirin asked.
Jinx could feel Chirin's eyes staring into her, she didn't know how else to describe her reasoning, the complexity of it, but could only mutter out, "I...just...wanted to see if there was a monster here."
Chirin's expression became droll, "Are you serious? It didn't occur to you that you could die?"
"I'm just naturally curious!" Jinx piped up.
"That's not curiosity, it's just plain stupid," Chirin stated.
Jinx suddenly felt embarrassed, looking down at the ground, "I just wanted to prove this jerk wrong."
"A jerk?"
"Yeah, there's this snobby ewe on my farm who tried to scare me and my sister with some story. I just wanted to prove her wrong so I could shove it in her face."
Chirin snorted again, "I suppose that's a reasonable thing to want."
Jinx winced as she shifted, the pain in her leg surging, "You're not much of a conversationalist are you?"
"Not much to talk about,"
"Yeah but you really need to work on your social skills," Jinx recommended.
Chirin didn't seem to react to that, but simply replied with "Perhaps."
Despite the situation, Jinx managed a smile, "Well I suppose we can work on that!"
"Hmm?" Chirin responded.
"I mean I'm going to be here for a while right? So I figure we might as well as get to know one another right?"
Chirin cast an odd look upon the ewe, "You want to get to know me?"
"Yep!"
"Someone, you don't know?"
"Y-Y-Yeah?" Jinx suddenly felt nervous.
Chirin kept that stoic look upon his face as if it were forged from stone, "All you need to know about me is I'm a killer. Nothing more, nothing less.
Jinx's face turned awkward, "Okay…well yeah I…ho boy you are a tough nut to crack aren't you?"
"Look, just because you're staying in my cave doesn't mean we have to get to know one another!" Chirin suddenly spat.
"Woah! What's with the attitude? I'm just trying to lighten the mood!" Jinx exclaimed.
"I'm not here to make friends. So just heal up and be quiet!" Chirin demanded.
Jinx held her head up defiantly, "Fine! I won't say a word!" She finished with a loud "Hmmph!".
A moment of silence passed within the cave. Then in mere seconds, a popping sound came. Chirin looked up curiously but saw nothing. Then the sound came again, and as he looked this time, he noticed a large bubble growing from Jinx's mouth. The bubble grew in size before it popped. Then, Jinx made another bubble and it likewise popped.
"What are you doing?" Chirin asked.
Jinx swiped her hoof across her mouth to mime silence. Chirin snorted in annoyance. He knew she was going to keep doing this.
"Alright. Silence rescinded." Chirin stated.
Jinx flashed a sneaky grin and replied, "I knew you would see things my way!" She giggled.
Chirin cast a curious eye towards the ewe, "You're different from the other sheep I have met." Chirin noticed.
"Oh?"
"Most of the sheep I've encountered were spineless cowards too afraid to leave their own pen," Chirin remarked bitterly.
"Well, not me!" Jinx piped, "I'm a natural-born troublemaker!"
"You seem rather proud of that." Chirin noticed.
"Well I partially do it to bug my dad, but other than that I just want to add some excitement. I mean living on the farm is such a drag," Jinx sighed, "There are all these rules, people telling you what to do, what not to do...You know what I mean?"
"Somewhat," Chirin responded.
"Well I needed to get away," Jinx stated, "And I have to say I found an interesting sight."
Chirin eyed her curiously, "Interesting?"
"Well yeah...you!" She stated.
The ringing of Chirin's bell sounded out as he jerked his head up in shock, "Me?"
"Oh come on! Don't tell me you don't think you're interesting to look at!" Jinx's smile became broad, "I mean look at you! Those chiseled muscles, that wicked body, and those horns! Damn you like something straight out of hell!"
Chirin was momentarily taken aback. The more he spoke to this ewe, the more he found the situation strange. She wasn't afraid of him at all. He had yet to encounter a creature like this, let alone one who thought he looked cool.
"I mean honestly you look really cool!" Jinx finished.
Chirin simply stared at Jinx and watched as she continued to eat. Something told him this meeting between the two of them wouldn't be a run of the mill sort of thing. Soon Jinx finished the greens, licking her lips satisfactorily.
"Damn that hit the spot!" She exclaimed.
"Glad you liked it," Chirin mentioned, "Now rest, I'll keep watch."
Jinx set her head down, "Yeah that sounds good, get some beauty rest and the like."
As Jinx began to rest, Chirin continued to ask himself why he had saved her? It would have been easy to just leave her to her fate, but he had brought her in. Still, he had to admit, it was good to have some form of conversation.
And so Chirin sat there, watching Jinx rest.
