Chapter 1, The Awakening of Rage
Author's Note: I know, I know an author's note already? How could I? Well I need to set out straight what both the summary and prologue hint at. This is a complete AU, there will be characters from the original text , no worries there, but there will be no Percy Jackson involved with this story, yet anyway. In Percy's place is my OC Thomas Ibn-La'Ahad who you will meet in this chapter. It will be the same plot, just with different prophecies and certain events will be changed to fit my plan for this story. Finally, we get to the disclaimer, I do not own Percy Jackson, it's characters, or it's plot, they belong to Rick Riordan. I own my original characters and this story's plot. That is the end of the Author's Note, I will try not to do too many of these, see you at the end of the chapter my friends.
My name is Thomas Ibn-La'Ahad, I am a boarding student at a nasty place called Yancy Academy, a private school for troubled kids in New York. You could say I am a troubled kid, if you call having ADHD and dyslexia being troubled. I am not very good at making friends as, well I'm not an outgoing guy, though it may also be to my appearance. I stand at 5'6, I have deep brown hair and lightly colored red eyes, and I am clearly of Syrian descent. In fact, I'm so unapproachable that I only have one friend, my roommate, Grover. Grover, the poor guy, gets bullied for a walking disability, I don't know how many times I have stood up to people bullying him.
"You okay Thomas?" Grover asked me in concern, I must have had a funny expression or something.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Just a little tired from the drive." I responded. Our class was on our way to our field trip's destination with Grover and I's favorite teacher Mr. Brunner.
"Well, we are almost there." Grover told me as a peanut butter sandwich was thrown at him from behind where we are sitting. I stood up and turned around, glaring straight at the culprit Nancy Bobofit. She flinched as soon as she met my eyes and sat right back down, muttering to herself. Grover just looked at me gratefully as I sat back down, I then went back to looking out the window for the rest of the drive. Grover just finished pulling peanut butter out of his hair as we stopped the museum.
Mr. Brunner, our Latin teacher, an older man in a wheelchair who always wore a tan tweed jacket that smelled of coffee, led us off the bus and into the museum. Mr. Brunner is one of the coolest teachers I have ever had, he quizzes us in Greco-Roman armor and points at us with a sword. The other teacher here with us is Mrs. Dodds, an angry old woman who always takes Nancy Bobofitt's side when she bullies a student. I honestly don't mind her, but for some reason Grover is desperately terrified of her. Sure, she's a little mean, but once you get to know her she can be really sweet.
Mr. Brunner and Mrs. Dodds led us through the museum until we reached the Greek portion. I was trying to listen to Mr. Bruner's lecture, but that's hard to do when everyone else is muttering to each other. I was just about to say something when Mr. Brunner asked me a question.
"Mr. Ibn-La'Ahad, do you know what ended the reign of the Titans?" My Latin teacher asked.
" Yes sir" I replied. "It was caused by a prophecy given to Rhea, Queen of the Titans and wife to Kronos, King of the Titans. It described the end of the Titans. Kronos, fearing her reign would end, swallowed his children, until Rhea gave him a rock instead of their youngest child, Zeus. Zeus created a potion of some sort that caused his siblings to be vomited out, fully grown, thus starting a war between both the Titans and the Gods." I explained confidently. Mr. Brunner smiled at me and nodded.
"That is correct Mr. Ibn-La'Ahad." Mr. Brunner said. In the back of the crowd I heard Nancy mutter to herself. "Like we are ever going to use this in real life. What are we gonna do, put this on our resume? She asked sarcastically.
"That is an excellent question Ms. Bobofit." Mr. Brunner said.
"Busted!" Grover said to Nancy happily. I smirked at him as Nancy went as red as her hair. "Shut up!" She hissed out in her embarrassment.
"Thomas, why don't you answer her question for me?" Mr. Brunner asked me.
"Of course sir, I am pretty sure that we can use these myths as moral and life lessons." I explained to both my teacher and Nancy. Mr. Brunner smiled at me happily, then dismissed us for lunch. Mrs. Dodds led our class outside and Grover and I went to sit by the fountain to talk about the bizarre weather New York has been having lately. It's been storming all the time and freakily enough, there was a tornado that touched down a few days ago. As we were discussing how dumb the weather man was for not noticing this weird change in weather, Nancy walked over to us with a scowl on her face.
"You two twerps made me look bad in there!" Nancy shouted at us.
"No we didn't, you did that yourself Nancy." I retorted to her as Grover started to crack up with laughter. Nancy responded by pushing Grover to the ground and snapping one of his crutches over her knee. This pissed me off to no extent, how could anyone do that to someone with a walking disability! I pushed her into the fountain so hard the fountains center cracked down the middle. Mrs. Dodds appeared out of nowhere with a sad look on her face, and ordered me to follow her into the museum.
"Now honey, come with me." She demanded of me. I just sighed and followed her, knowing I let my anger get the better of me and almost seriously injured Nancy. Mrs. Dodds led me back into the Greek part of the museum.
" I am sorry to do this to you Thomas, I have come to like you, but we know you took it." She said sadly, as she started to turn into a bat like demon. She grew leathery bat wings and crazy claws as her fangs elongated. On instinct I grabbed the small silver spear charm on my bracelet and watched as a beautiful Ox Tongue Partisan Spear grew from my charm. The shaft was made of dark oak wood inlaid with gold linings spiraling from top to bottom, the broad blade had two spikes on the bottom of the blade as the blade elongated into a sharp point with gold swirls on the black blade.
I followed my instinct and got into a battle ready stance as I felt my anger grow by being betrayed by one of the teachers that actually likes me. As my anger grew, I thought I was seeing red but my spear actually started to glow red along the gold spirals and swirls.
"Time to die honey!" Mrs. Dodds screamed as she flew towards me with her claws ready to tear me to pieces. Well, I wasn't about to let that happen as I thrust my spear into her right wing, pinning her into the ground. I let go of my control of my anger as my spear started to glow brighter. I started to stomp her left arm into the ground while she was pinned, breaking her arm. She scrambled in pain as I withdrew my spear and swiped it vertically across her throat, cleanly beheading her. As her head hit the ground, she turned into a sulphuric sand like substance.
I took a few moments to calm down and take some deep breaths.
"What the hell just happened?!" I shouted at myself. I was so confused, my pre-algebra just turned into some kinda bat-demon hybrid thing and I had to kill her with a spear I pulled or summoned out of my bracelet. Like what the hell? I just killed one of my favorite teachers. And I am going to have to live with that…
