Going to back track before the wedding! Shawn and Juliet's first Thanksgiving being engaged.
Thanksgiving
It was Thanksgiving morning around 8:30, Juliet got up and went and took a shower. 15 minutes later she got out with a towel wrapped around her body and saw Shawn still sleeping.
Juliet walked over to Shawn's side of the bed and whispered in his ear, "Baby, you have to get up."
"Why?" Shawn mumbled.
"It's Thanksgiving and we just happen to be the host this year."
Shawn opened one eye and looked at Juliet, "I wouldn't mind waking up to this every morning."
"Spoiler alert, you already do."
Shawn sat up and stretched and kissed Juliet good morning.
Juliet sat down next to Shawn on the bed and kissed his cheek.
"Hi Juliet." Shawn whispered.
"Hello Shawn." Juliet whispered back.
"Tell me again why we have to host Thanksgiving this year?"
"Your dad hosted last year and since we just happen to be engaged, I thought it would be a good idea for us to host this year, in our new house."
"Nobody has been here yet."
"Exactly."
Shawn wrapped his arms around Juliet's waist and kissed her neck.
"Shawn, behave…" Juliet threatened.
"Buzzkill." Shawn mumbled.
Juliet pulled away from Shawn and looked him dead in the eyes, "Baby, we have plenty of time for that later."
Shawn rolled his eyes.
Juliet leaned down and kissed him, "Come on. Get up and shower. Do you want breakfast?"
"No. Who's all coming to our house?"
"Your parents, Gus, Lassiters, McNabs, and the Vicks."
"What about your mom?"
"She's in Miami with my brother's family."
"I say next year, we go to Miami for the holidays."
"Can we please get through this year first?"
Shawn chuckled, "Of course. Now if you'll excuse me, apparently I have to get a shower and get ready."
Shawn got out of bed and stretched and went into the bathroom and took a shower.
Juliet got off the bed and went into the bathroom to dry her hair.
Shawn heard the door open and saw Juliet drying her hair.
"Pssst…Jules…" Shawn whispered.
Juliet turned her head to look at Shawn.
"I love you." Shawn whispered.
"I love you too." Juliet said.
Shawn stepped back into the water stream and finished his shower while Juliet dried her hair.
An Hour Later
It was 9:45 in the morning and both Shawn and Juliet were ready for the day.
Juliet was in the kitchen cooking while Shawn was watching TV on the couch.
"Do you need any help, baby?" Shawn asked.
"Not right now. Everything is done, it just needs to be warmed for dinner." Juliet said.
Shawn nodded and turned his attention back to the TV.
Juliet walked over to him and sat down next to him and grabbed his hand.
Shawn looked over at Juliet and smiled.
Juliet saw Shawn smile out of the corner of her eye, "What's the smile for?"
"It's our first Thanksgiving as Spencers." Shawn said.
"We're not married yet."
"But in 3 weeks we will be."
"I know. Are you excited?"
"Jules, of course I'm excited. Why wouldn't I be?"
"I know you too well Shawn Spencer, I don't want you to get cold feet."
"Jules, my feet never get cold. When they do, I just put them under your legs."
Juliet laughed at Shawn's joke.
"Shawn I mean…" Juliet started.
"I know what you mean, Jules. I'm ready. I'm ready to be married. Hell I'm even ready for kids."
Juliet's jaw dropped.
"What?" Shawn asked.
"Did Shawn Spencer just say he's ready for kids?"
Shawn smiled and nodded.
Juliet got on Shawn's lap and wrapped her arms around his neck, "Well Mr. Spencer, I think we're in agreement."
"Really?"
"Yeah. I mean, the thought of us having kids has been in the back of my mind since my mom was here 5 months ago."
"We got our house Jules, we're getting married in 3 weeks, everything is coming together and I couldn't be more excited."
Shawn and Juliet watched TV together until the guests started arriving.
4:45 PM
It was 15 minutes until 5 o'clock and Juliet was in the kitchen heating stuff up while Shawn was setting the table…the best that he could.
"Jules, did I do this right?" Shawn asked.
Juliet turned the stove down to low and went and checked on Shawn, "I'm proud of you."
"Thanks baby."
At 5:00 on the dot their doorbell rang.
Shawn went and answered the door and saw Karen and her family on the other side.
"Well hello, Mr. Spencer." Karen said.
"Chief." Shawn acknowledged.
Iris went and attacked Shawn's legs.
Shawn picked up Iris and shook Karen's husband's hand.
"Well hello there Princess Iris." Shawn said.
"Hey Uncle Shawn." Iris said.
"Do you want to go see what Jules is doing in the kitchen?"
Iris nodded.
Shawn went into the kitchen and tapped Juliet on her shoulder.
"Jules, someone wants to say hey to you." Shawn said.
Juliet turned around and saw Shawn holding Iris.
"Iris!" Juliet said.
Iris held out her arms for Juliet to take her.
Juliet grabbed Iris and went and visited with Karen.
Karen met Juliet halfway, "Y'all did good."
"Meaning?" Juliet asked.
"The house. It fits you guys perfectly."
"Thank you. We love it."
"Oh and by the way, Happy Thanksgiving."
"Happy Thanksgiving Karen, want a drink?"
"Wine if you have it."
Juliet gave Karen a look.
"I know you always have wine." Karen said.
Juliet put Iris down and walked to the kitchen. On the way to the kitchen she caught one of Shawn's belt loops and pulled him with them.
Shawn was talking to Karen's husband and then got yanked away by Juliet.
Shawn met Juliet and Karen in the kitchen. He went over to Juliet and wrapped his arms around her waist and put his chin on her shoulder.
Juliet turned her head and gave Shawn a kiss on his temple.
"White or red?" Juliet asked.
"White." Karen said.
Juliet tried to move to get the wine glasses but Shawn had her stuck.
"Hey goofy! Can I please get the wine glasses down?" Juliet joked.
Shawn released Juliet and then the doorbell rang again.
"Perfect timing." Juliet said.
"Ha." Shawn shot back.
Shawn went and opened the door and saw his parents, Gus, and the Lassiters at his door step.
"Son." Henry said.
"Happy Thanksgiving dad." Shawn said.
Maddie pushed through the men and went and hugged Shawn.
"Hey mom. I missed you." Shawn said.
"I missed you too. Where is Juliet?" Maddie asked.
"In the kitchen with Karen."
Maddie took off to the kitchen.
Carlton and Marlowe greeted Shawn and then went and visited.
1 Hour In
An hour has gone by and Shawn and Juliet were sitting on the couch visiting with their guests.
Shawn looked at his watch and looked at the time.
Shawn leaned over to Juliet and whispered, "It's 6:00. Is everything ready?"
Juliet nodded.
Shawn got up, "My wife said the food is ready. Let's go feast."
"Your what?" Henry asked.
"My wife."
"She's not your wife yet, Shawn."
"I don't care. Now please go fix your plate."
Everyone left their spot on the couch while Shawn and Juliet sat back and let everyone grab their food before them.
Juliet looked at Shawn, "Wife sounded pretty good, didn't it?"
Shawn looked down, "It came so easily."
"It made me get butterflies."
Shawn smiled and kissed Juliet.
"Happy Thanksgiving Jules." Shawn whispered.
Juliet wrapped her arms around Shawn's neck, "Happy Thanksgiving Shawn."
Shawn bent down and kissed Juliet one more time.
The last of the guests got their food and sat down and Shawn and Juliet went and got their food.
Shawn and Juliet sat down next to each other at the table and began to eat.
"So guys, 3 weeks out right?" Gus asked.
Shawn looked at Juliet and grabbed her hand under the table, "Yep. I get to marry my best friend in just 3 weeks."
"Are you ready Shawn?" Maddie asked.
"Mom, I'm 100% ready."
During dinner Juliet's phone rang.
"Excuse me." Juliet said.
Juliet excused herself from the table and went and answered the phone.
"Hello?" Juliet asked.
"Happy Thanksgiving Juliet." Maryanne said.
"Hey mom. Happy Thanksgiving. It's getting late over there isn't it?"
"We were just about to go to bed, but I wanted to call and tell you Happy Thanksgiving."
"Thanks mom. How is everything?"
Juliet walked left her and Shawn's bedroom and went outside and talked to her mom on the back porch.
"Everything is great. We missed you this year." Maryanne said.
"I missed you guys too. Shawn actually said we should be in Miami next year for the holidays." Juliet mentioned.
Shawn sat Juliet outside laughing on the phone and got up and went and checked on her.
Juliet heard the back door open and saw Shawn.
"Mom, Shawn just walked out here, would you like to talk to him?" Juliet asked.
"Just for a second if you don't mind." Maryanne said.
"Of course not."
Juliet handed the phone to Shawn.
"Hello?" Shawn asked.
"Hello Shawn. How is your Thanksgiving?" Maryanne asked.
"It's amazing. Your daughter certainly knows how to cook."
Juliet chuckled.
"She learned all her cooking skills from her grandma." Maryanne said.
"Well, she did a good job. I don't mean to cut you off, but I just came outside to check on Jules." Shawn said.
"It's not a problem."
"Happy Thanksgiving, Maryanne."
"Happy Thanksgiving, Shawn."
Shawn handed Juliet back her phone and waited for her to get off the phone.
"Well mom, I will call you tomorrow afternoon." Juliet said.
"Afternoon?" Maryanne asked.
"Yes. On our days off we like to sleep in."
"Oh ok. Well we love you."
"Love you guys too."
Juliet hung up the phone and looked at Shawn.
"What?" Shawn asked.
"Let's go finish eating." Juliet said.
Shawn nodded.
Shawn and Juliet went back into the house and sat back down at the table.
"I am so sorry about that guys, my mom was on the phone. I think she forgets about the 3 hour time difference." Juliet said.
"It's fine. How is she doing?" Maddie asked.
"She's good. She had my brothers over and his kids."
"How many kids does he have?"
"2. Gage is 13 and Riley is 10."
Maddie nodded.
Carlton bent over and whispered something to Karen.
Shawn saw the encounter out of the corner of his eye, "What was that Lassie?"
"What do you mean?" Carlton asked.
"What'd you whisper to the Chief?"
Carlton shook his head and went back to his food.
"Carlton…" Juliet started.
"It seems like you are only talking to Shawn's family right now." Carlton said.
"What would you like to discuss Carlton?"
Carlton's eyebrows hopped to his hairline and looked at Shawn and then looked at Juliet.
"I made dessert. Would anybody like any?" Shawn changed the subject.
"I would." Gus said.
Shawn nodded and got up and picked up everyone's plate and cleared them and put them in the sink to soak.
Gus got up and went over to Shawn, "What's for dessert?"
"I made these little pumpkin pies." Shawn said.
"Are you talking about the ones you made when you were younger?"
Shawn nodded.
"I haven't had those in 15 years."
"Neither have I, Gus."
Shawn took the mini pies out of the fridge and put them in the oven to warm.
Everyone left the table and went back to the living room to let their food digest and watch football.
Carlton sat by Juliet, "You ready to tie the knot?"
"More than ever. I've wanted to marry that man in there for the past 6 years." Juliet said.
"You've only been together 4."
"I know."
"When did that happen?"
"Somewhere between the roller derby case and the first Yang case."
"You did one hell of a job hiding it."
"Thanks. It was hard, seeing the person you love be with someone else…"
"That's how he felt when you were with…"
"Stop that sentence right now."
"Why?"
"We don't talk about him…ever."
"Why not?"
"He gets upset."
"Spencer gets upset?"
"Yeah, it's not pretty."
Shawn and Gus were in the kitchen talking when Juliet wrapped her arms around Shawn's waist.
"Hello." Shawn said.
Gus left the kitchen and went and sat down in the living room.
Shawn pulled Juliet close and kissed her.
"Hi." Juliet said.
"Hey there. What's up?"
"Coming to check on you. What are you and Gus talking about?"
"Childhood."
"What about it?"
"You'll see in a second. Go back in the living room and sit down."
"I wanna know what it is."
"Jules, please go sit down."
"Fine…"
Juliet left the kitchen and went back to the living room.
The mini pies were done and Shawn put them on a tray and handed the first two, to his parents.
"Shawn, are these the pies that you and grandma made?" Henry asked.
"Yeah." Shawn said.
"She would be so proud of you, son." Maddie said.
Shawn smiled and handed the rest of the pies out and made a tiny apple pie just for Juliet.
"Shawn, you didn't have to do that." Juliet said.
"I wanted you to have dessert too." Shawn said.
"You don't like pumpkin pie?" Henry asked.
"I had it once when I was a kid and I was not a fan." Juliet answered.
Shawn sat down next to Juliet and wrapped his arms around her shoulder and pulled her closer.
"Juliet, Shawn's grandma would've loved you. She loved seeing Shawn happy." Maddie said.
Juliet looked at Shawn and saw him looking off into space and water in his eyes.
Juliet grabbed his hand and squeezed.
Shawn looked at Juliet and blinked really fast to try to get rid of the tears in his eyes.
"You ok?" Juliet whispered.
Shawn nodded, "I'll tell you all about her later."
Juliet nodded and went back to visiting.
2 Hours Later
Two hours later it was nearing 10:00 that night and everyone was getting ready to go.
"Guys, thank you so much for dinner. We had a great time." Karen said.
"Good. I hope you liked the house." Juliet said.
"I love it. You two did a good job."
Shawn smiled.
Shawn walked his parents and Gus out.
Maddie turned to Shawn, "You haven't told her about grandma have you?"
"No, not yet." Shawn said.
Maddie hugged Shawn and then went over to Juliet.
"Juliet, thank you so much for this evening." Maddie said.
"Maddie, you are so welcome. I'm sure we will see each other in the coming weeks." Juliet said.
"We better."
Juliet laughed and hugged Maddie.
The last of the people left and Shawn locked up the house and set the alarm for the night.
Juliet was in the kitchen cleaning up dinnerware when Shawn pulled her hand over to the couch.
Juliet sat down next to Shawn and held his hands.
"Jules, thank you for today." Shawn said.
"Baby, you are more than welcome. You ok?" Juliet asked.
"Yeah."
Shawn took a deep breath and looked at Juliet.
"Jules, my grandma was my best friend. She was dad's mom. When my parents split, my grandma hated the thought of divorce. She didn't believe in it and it drove a wedge between her and my dad. My mom was right, she would've loved you and you would've loved her. You two have a lot in common."
"When did your dad stop speaking to her?"
"My parents split sophomore year of high school, so around there."
"You had to be only 15 or 16."
Shawn chuckled.
"Every Thanksgiving, my grandma and I would make those tiny pies together. It was our thing every single year. I haven't made one of those pies in over 15 years."
"What made you decide to make them this year?"
"I want that to be OUR thing during the holidays. I want to do that with our kids, plus they won't have to worry about us splitting up because we're not going to."
Juliet nodded in agreement, "No we won't."
Shawn smiled, "I love you."
"I love you too. Thank you for sharing with me today."
"Of course. I just wish my grandma was here to meet you."
"When did she pass?"
"Senior year of high school."
"Did she pass here in Santa Barbara?"
Shawn nodded.
Juliet stood up and brought Shawn up with her. She wrapped her arms around his waist and hugged him tight.
"You ready Jules? We're about to have our own traditions as a family, just us." Shawn said.
"Baby, I've been ready for years." Juliet said.
Shawn bent down and kissed Juliet passionately.
I know it isn't Thanksgiving yet, but the one I'm writing for Christmas will top all of these.
Happy Holidays, guys! Even if it's two months before!
