A few weeks out from Juliet's due date

It was Monday morning around 8:30 and Juliet walked into the station and headed straight for her desk to put her purse down. She put her purse down and went to Karen's office.
Juliet knocked on Karen's office door.
"Come in." Karen said.
Juliet opened the door and stepped inside and sat down.
"How was your weekend?" Karen asked.
"Exhausting." Juliet said.
"She's going to be here any day now."
"Oh I know. Shawn is excited."
"Really?"
"Oh yeah. Like giddy excited."
"That's good."
"What's the work load for today?"
"Lassiter wants you to do one more field investigation with him."
"Shawn's going to be thrilled."
Karen chuckled, "Also, have you put in your maternity leave request in?"
"No. I planned on doing that as soon as I got in today."
"Do that first and then g out in the field with Lassiter."
Juliet nodded.
Juliet got up out of the chair and walked to her desk. She sat down and pulled up the maternity leave file and filled it in. Once the form was filled out, Juliet printed it and brought it to Karen.
"Thank you. I'll send you the address in a second." Karen said.
"Ok." Juliet said.
Juliet left Karen's office and went to her desk and grabbed her purse. She made a pit stop in the ladies' room. As soon as she sat down her water broke.
"Oh you have got to be kidding me." Juliet fussed.
Juliet took out her phone and called Karen.
"Vick." Karen answered.
"Hey, it's me." Juliet said.
"What's up?"
"How busy are you right now?"
"Not very. What's wrong?"
"My water just broke in the bathroom."
Karen hung up the phone, grabbed her purse, and ran out of her office and into the bathroom.
"Juliet?" Karen asked.
"Last stall." Juliet answered.
Karen got to the last stall, "Can I come in?"
"Yeah." Juliet said.
Juliet unlocked the stall and Karen stepped in.
"Ok, how are you feeling?" Karen asked.
"Freaking the hell out." Juliet said.
"Breathe and try to calm down. I'm going to go pull my car up to the door and I'll come back and get you."
Juliet nodded.
Karen ran out of the restroom and grabbed her car and parked it in front of the steps.
Karen opened her door and ran into the station and went to get Juliet.
Karen walked into the bathroom and saw Juliet standing up with tears in her eyes.
"What's wrong?" Karen asked.
"It's happening." Juliet said.
"I know, let's get in the car and I'll call Shawn on the way."
Juliet nodded.
Karen pulled Juliet into her side and they walked out of the station together and got in the car.
Karen helped Juliet into the passenger seat and shut the door. She got back in the car and drove to the hospital.
Karen got her phone out and called Shawn.
Shawn
Shawn just walked in the Psych office when his phone rang.
"Hello?" Shawn asked.
"Hey it's Karen." Karen said.
"What's up?"
"Are you busy?"
"No, I just walked in the office."
"Well your wife's water broke 30 minutes ago."
Shawn's jaw dropped, he grabbed his keys and ran out of the Psych office and got in his car.
"She's not due for another 3 weeks." Shawn said.
"I know that Shawn. Are you on the way?" Karen asked.
"Yes. Can I talk to my wife?"
"Of course."
Karen handed the phone to Juliet.
"Hello?" Juliet asked.
"Hey sweetheart, are you ok?" Shawn asked.
"Sorta."
"I'm on my way right now. I'm 5 minutes away."
"I love you."
"I love you too. I'll see you in a minute."
"Wait…did you put the carseat in your car?"
"Yes. I did last night."
"You just might be the best husband I've ever had."
"I better be the only husband you've ever had."
"Well duh."
"Ok, I'm almost there. I'll see you when you get here."
"Ok. I love you."
"I love you too."
Juliet hung up the phone and handed it back to Karen.
"He's on his way." Juliet said.
Karen nodded.
Shawn
Shawn pulled into the hospital parking lot and ran into the Emergency Department.
"Hi, how can I help you?" a nurse asked.
"Hey, my wife's water broke and she's a few minutes away." Shawn said.
"What's her name?"
"Juliet Spencer. Dr. Green is her OB."
"Thank you. I'll get a wheelchair and call her doctor."
"Thanks."
Shawn left the desk and went outside and waited for Juliet.
A few minutes later, Karen pulled into the hospital parking lot and parked in front of the ER entrance.
Juliet looked up and saw her husband and a nurse waiting on her with a wheelchair.
Karen hurried out of the car and helped Juliet into the wheelchair.
"I'll bring your things up." Karen said.
Juliet nodded.
The nurse wheeled Juliet to the Labor & Delivery wing of the hospital. The nurse wheeled Juliet into Room 668 and gave her a gown to change in to.
"I'll be back in a few minutes." the nurse said.
"Thank you." Juliet said.
The nurse left and Shawn helped Juliet get the gown on.
Juliet got the gown on and sat back in the bed.
Shawn sat down next to Juliet's feet and squeezed them.
"Stop it." Juliet laughed.
Shawn smiled.
Juliet opened her arms and Shawn got up and moved into Juliet's embrace.
Shawn felt Juliet move a little bit and he squeezed into the hospital bed with her.
"I love you." Shawn whispered.
"I love you too." Juliet said.
Shawn gave Juliet a kiss and rested his forehead against hers.
"Are you ready?" Shawn asked.
"I'm nervous." Juliet admitted.
There was a knock on the door and Shawn got up and opened it and saw the nurse and Dr. Green.
Dr. Green and the nurse entered.
"Hey Juliet." Dr. Green greeted.
"Hey there." Juliet said.
"How are you feeling?"
"The contractions are getting pretty rough now."
"Do you want the epidural?"
Juliet looked at Shawn.
"It's up to you, baby." Shawn said.
"Can I have a few hours? If it get outright unbearable I'll take it." Juliet said.
"Of course. You do know you could be in labor anywhere from 12 to 20 hours."
"Yes."
"Ok. Hopefully it won't be that long for you, but this is your first pregnancy."
Juliet nodded.
The nurse came up and started hooking Juliet to monitors.
"Can I put this IV in?" the nurse asked.
"Of course." Juliet said.
Juliet sat there and let the nurse put the IV in her wrist.
The nurse got done and taped the IV, so it wouldn't move.
Dr. Green hooked Juliet to a fetal heart monitor.
"Ok, we'll be checking on you every hour or so." Dr. Green said.
"Ok. Thanks." Juliet said.
Dr. Green and the nurse exited Juliet's room and Karen made her way in.
Shawn saw Karen come in the room and went over to her and hugged her.
"What's this for?" Karen asked.
"Being my wife's best friend and taking care of her when I wasn't there." Shawn said.
Karen smiled and hugged Shawn back.
Shawn pulled away and wiped a quick tear from his face.
Karen walked over to Juliet with her purse.
"Thank you so much." Juliet expressed.
"You're more than welcome." Karen said.
Karen pulled up a chair and sat next to Juliet while Shawn took out his phone.
"Should I call my parents?" Shawn asked.
"Yeah. Can you call my mom too?" Juliet asked.
"You sure you don't want to?"
"I'll call her."
"Ok."
Shawn called his dad.
"Hello?" Henry asked.
"Hey pops. What are you doing right now?" Shawn asked.
"Nothing Shawn. What's up?"
"Jules is in labor."
"She's not due for another 3 weeks."
"I know that dad. I was just calling to tell you that she's in labor."
"Ok. Well, call your mother."
"I was doing that as soon as I got off the phone with you."
"I'll be waiting on that call."
"I'll call you later."
"Bye Shawn."
"Bye dad."
Shawn hung up the phone and called his mom.
"Hey Goose." Maddie said.
"Hey mom." Shawn said.
"What's up?"
"Jules is in labor."
"3 weeks early?"
"Yeah. That's what I said."
"Is her mom there?"
"No. She's supposed to head into town next week, but my child wants to surprise us."
Juliet laughed.
"Can I talk to her?" Maddie asked.
"Sure."
Shawn handed Juliet his phone, "It's mom."
Juliet nodded.
"Hey Maddie." Juliet said.
"How are you feeling, sweetie?" Maddie asked.
"Pain is starting to become more noticeable, but I'm freaking out."
"Ok. Well I'll be up there in a few hours if you don't mind."
"Maddie, you know I don't mind. In fact, you can come up here now."
"Ok. I'm going to run my errands and then I'll head up there."
"Thank you so much."
"Love you Juliet."
"Love you too."
Juliet hung up the phone and handed it back to Shawn.
"She's going to come up here in a little while." Juliet said.
Shawn nodded, "Ok."
Karen's phone rang.
Karen took out her phone and saw that it was Carlton calling.
"This should be a fun conversation." Karen said.
"Who is it?" Juliet asked.
"Lassiter."
"Have fun with that."
"Hello?" Karen asked.
"Chief, where is O'Hara?" Lassiter fussed.
"Carlton calm down. Her last name is Spencer. She's in labor."
"Wait? Like now?"
"Yes."
"How is she doing?"
"Want to talk to her?"
"I guess…"
Karen gave the phone to Juliet.
"Carlton…" Juliet said.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Carlton asked.
"Carlton I'm not due for another 3 weeks. I didn't know I was going to go into labor this morning."
"Ok, you do have a point."
"I know I have a point. This is my child."
"Is Spencer there?"
"Carlton, he's my husband, of course he's here."
Carlton sighed.
"Listen, I can't be stressed out and you're stressing me out right now. I'll call you when she gets here."
"Fine."
Juliet hung up the phone and handed it back to Karen.
"He's in a great mood today." Juliet said sarcastically.
Shawn rolled his eyes.
"What's with the eye roll?" Juliet asked.
"Of course he's in a mood." Shawn said.
"Babe. He is my partner. I had one more field case today and I was on the way to that then my water broke."
"You were going to go into the field today? You haven't been in the field for 2 months."
"Shawn…"
"No Jules. You could've gotten hurt."
"Shawn. It was a simple case. Bank robbery."
"Was it an armed robbery?"
"That's what we were going to find out."
"I need to get air."
Shawn left the room and went downstairs and called Gus.
"Shawn it is 10 in the morning." Gus fussed.
"Well hello to you too." Shawn said.
"What do you want Shawn?"
"Jules is in labor."
"And you're just now telling me this because?"
"It happened just an hour ago."
"Is she ok?"
"I think so, we just got in a fight and I walked out."
"Goddamnit Shawn!"
"What Gus?"
"What was the fight about?"
"Apparently she was going to do one last field case."
"I thought she stopped that 2 months ago."
"I did too."
"Ok. Look, go up there and apologize."
"Me apologize?"
"Yes you apologize. She's your pregnant wife Shawn! You shouldn't even be fighting with her in the first place when she's in labor."
"Thanks Gus. I'll call you when she gets here."
"Thanks man. Oh and Good luck."
"Thanks."
Shawn hung up the phone and walked back into the hospital.
As soon as he stepped into the lobby Karen stepped off the elevator and ran up to him.
"What's wrong?" Shawn asked.
"Baby is in distress. Taking her in for a C-Section now." Karen said.
"Damn it."
Shawn took off to the elevators. He pressed the 'Up' button but it was taking too long.
"Screw this." Shawn grumbled.
Shawn opened the door to the stairs and ran up 7 flights of stairs. He got to Juliet's floor and saw them rolling Juliet to the OR.
"Jules!" Shawn yelled.
Juliet turned around with tears in her eyes.
Shawn ran up to her and grabbed her hand, "It's ok, baby."
"I'm sorry." Juliet cried.
Shawn bent down and looked Juliet in the eyes, "Baby, you didn't do anything wrong. It was me. I'm sorry."
"But you're mad at me."
"I'm not mad at you. I could never be mad at you, especially right now."
"Sir, we have got to go. Are you coming with us?" the doctor asked.
"Yeah." Shawn said.
"Well come on."
The doctor wheeled Juliet to the elevator. They got on and went to Floor 3 where the Operating Rooms were located.
The doctor got off the elevator and wheeled Juliet into OR 3.
"Juliet, I'm going to go scrub up, I will be right back." the doctor said.
Juliet nodded.
The doctor handed Shawn a gown with a head cap and booties.
"I have to wear these?" Shawn asked.
"Yes, but first you have to come scrub up with me." the doctor said.
Shawn looked at Juliet and smiled, "I'll be right back baby."
Juliet nodded.
Shawn followed the doctor into the scrub room right across the hall.
Shawn followed the doctor's instructions on how to properly scrub in.
They got scrubbed in and walked back in and a scrub nurse put the gown on Shawn and the cap and gloves.
The scrub nurse told Shawn to sit down, so she could put his booties on.
"Thanks." Shawn said.
The scrub nurse nodded.
The anesthesiologist came in and administered the anesthesia.
"Juliet, are you ready?" the surgeon asked.
Juliet looked at Shawn with tears in her eyes.
Shawn took her hand and kissed her head, "It's going to be ok. I'm right here."
Juliet turned back to the surgeon and nodded.
The surgeon started the procedure and in 10 minutes a cry was heard over the room.
Juliet heard the cry and looked at Shawn who was looking at the doctor who was cleaning her up.
The doctor walked over to Shawn and handed him their brand new baby girl.
Shawn held his brand new daughter who looked just like Juliet. He walked over to Juliet and bent down so she could see.
Juliet looked at Shawn and then her daughter.
"Look at what we made Jules." Shawn whispered.
Juliet looked in Shawn's eyes and tears were filled to the brim as were her own.
The doctor came over to Shawn, "Congratulations you two. I'm just going to take her to get her measurements. She'll be back with you guys in about an hour."
"Ok." Shawn said.
The doctor took the baby girl and put her in the hospital crib and headed to the Labor & Delivery Floor.
The surgeon closed Juliet up and brought her back to her room.
Karen was in the waiting room on the Labor and Delivery Floor and saw Shawn walk out in his scrub outfit.
"She's here." Shawn said.
Karen smiled, "Is she?"
Shawn nodded.
"How's Juliet?" Karen asked.
"She's doing great. The baby is with the doctor getting her measurements done." Shawn said.
Karen got up and hugged Shawn, "Congratulations, Mr. Spencer."
"Thank you, Karen." Shawn said.
Shawn went back to Juliet's room and turned around, "Karen, come on."
Karen followed Shawn back to Juliet's room.
Shawn entered the room and saw Juliet holding their brand new baby girl.
"She's back already?" Shawn asked.
Juliet nodded.
The doctor was in the room with the birth certificate.
"What were her measurements?" Shawn asked.
"6lbs 8oz and 18 inches long." the doctor said.
"Thanks."
"Have you guys picked a name?" the doctor asked.
Juliet nodded, "Natalie Grace Spencer."
The doctor wrote that down and put it in the computer to print out her brith certificate.
"Congratulations." the doctor said.
"Thank you." Juliet said.
Shawn took off his outfit and put it in the biohazard can outside Juliet's room.
Shawn walked back in the room and saw Juliet talking with Karen.
"She's precious." Karen said.
"I was so convinced she was going to look like Shawn." Juliet said.
"She is a carbon copy of you."
Shawn laughed, "She is that."
Juliet looked up and saw Shawn looking at her and nodded her head for him to come to her.
Shawn walked over to Juliet and sat down on the bed next to her feet.
"The lactation nurse should be in a few minutes." Juliet said.
"Should I be in here for that?" Shawn asked.
"I mean you just saw half of my organs."
Shawn laughed, "They're very cute ones too."
Juliet laughed, "Good to know."
"Can I hold her?" Shawn asked.
"Of course." Juliet said.
Juliet scooted over and let Shawn get in the bed next to her.
Juliet handed Natalie to Shawn.
Shawn took Natalie from Juliet and traced her features with his finger.
Natalie's little hand came out of her swaddle and gripped on to Shawn's pinky finger.
"Wow." Shawn whispered.
Juliet rubbed her hand across Shawn's cheek.
Shawn looked at Juliet and then back at his daughter amazed at how one little tiny human could take up so much room in his heart.
Shawn put Natalie on his chest, "I love you so much, baby girl."
Shawn put a kiss on Natalie's head and closed his eyes.
Juliet grabbed Shawn's and sniffled.
Shawn heard Juliet sniffle and opened his eyes, "You ok?"
"Yeah, it's just that the love of my life is holding our baby girl." Juliet whispered.
"I love you sweetheart. You did such a great job."
"I love you too."
Shawn gave Juliet a kiss and then gave one more to Natalie.
Karen saw the couple obsess over their newborn daughter.
"Well Juliet, I will see you guys in a few days to come and see her." Karen said.
"Thank you so much for today." Juliet said.
"Of course."
Shawn handed the baby back to Juliet and walked Karen out.
Shawn shut the door behind him, "Karen, thank you for today."
"Of course. You two did a good job with that one." Karen said.
Shawn laughed, "I don't know how much of me she has in her."
"I say give it a few months and her personality will start to show."
"I kinda want her to act like Jules."
"Why?"
"I mean Natalie is Juliet twice over."
"Maybe the looks, but personality wise, I want her to have yours."
"Are you saying I'm more fun than Jules?"
"Those words didn't come out of my mouth."
Shawn smiled and pulled Karen into a hug, "Have a good day."
"You too. Congratulations." Karen said.
Karen pulled away and headed toward the elevators.
Shawn walked back in Juliet's room and saw his two girls sleeping. He took out his phone and took a picture and set it as his wallpaper.
