Picking up right after Karen left
Juliet's Room
Shawn walked back into Juliet's room and smiled at her.
"She's pretty cute isn't she?" Shawn asked.
"The cutest." Juliet said.
There was a knock on the door and the lactation nurse came in.
"Hey Juliet, I'm Hannah and I am your lactation nurse." Hannah introduced.
"Hey. That's my husband Shawn." Juliet greeted.
"Nice to meet you both."
"Likewise." Shawn said.
"First off, congratulations on your baby girl."
"Thank you." Juliet said.
"Normally I come in right after baby is born, but since you had a C-Section we tend to give the mom's 30 minutes to rest."
"That's fine."
"Has she wanted to be fed? Any cues?"
"None that I saw."
"Ok, well I'm going to get her to try and latch on, ok?"
Juliet nodded.
The nurse helped Natalie latch on to Juliet.
After 5 tries Natalie finally latched.
"That was a lot harder than I've heard." Juliet said.
"It varies from woman to woman, but she seems to get the idea now." Hannah said.
"How long is she going to eat for?"
"Varies. It takes some 15 to 20 minutes to all the way to 45 minutes."
"Wow."
"Yeah I know. I recommend pumping when you two get home."
"Why?"
"Pumping gives you the chance to bottle feed your baby instead of trying to get her to latch on."
"Is it easier?"
"To pump? Some moms prefer that."
"I guess that seems easier. Especially when I go back to work."
"What do you do?"
"I'm a detective for the SBPD."
"Then yes, pumping is going to be a lot easier."
"Thank you so much."
"Of course. If you have any more trouble with her latching, here is a pamphlet on various ways to try to get her to latch."
"Thank you so much."
"You're welcome. Congratulations."
"Thank you."
The lactation nurse left the room and Shawn sat there wide-eyed.
"What's with the look?" Juliet asked.
"Your body is amazing." Shawn said.
Juliet was about to open her mouth when Shawn finished his thought.
"I mean yeah your body is amazing, but you're literally feeding our child right now. And you grew that baby in your arms." Shawn said.
"Jealous?"
"God no."
Juliet laughed, "Thanks."
"It's just that I'm impressed with what your body can do."
"Well thank you."
"Are you tired?"
"Yes. I'm going to take a nap when she's done."
"Well that doesn't sound like a bad idea."
Juliet smiled.
Natalie finished eating and Juliet burped her.
A few minutes Shawn's first diaper change was needed.
"Baby, time for you to change her." Juliet said.
Shawn got up and went over to Juliet and picked up Natalie and went to the table next to him and changed her.
As soon as Shawn unsaddled Natalie she started crying.
"I'm sorry to disturb your snooze baby girl, can you give me 5 minutes?" Shawn whispered.
Juliet took out her phone and took a video of Shawn doing his first diaper change ever.
Shawn changed Natalie's diaper and swaddled her back up and put her back in her momma's arms.
As soon as Juliet wrapped her arms around Natalie and her cries slowed down.
"That was fun." Shawn said.
Juliet laughed, "You did good though."
"Thanks sweetheart."
"Alright she's out and I'm about to be out. Why don't you go ahead and call everyone?"
"I can do that. Do you want to call your mom when you wake up?"
"Let me do that now."
Shawn nodded.
Juliet dialed her mom's number.
"Hello?" Maryanne asked.
"Hey mom." Juliet said.
"Hey Juliet. Are you ok? You sound tired."
"Yeah. We have someone that would like to meet you."
"You had her already?"
"A few hours ago, yeah."
"You're not due for a few more weeks."
"I know."
"How is she doing?"
"She's sleeping."
"How's Shawn?"
"He's obsessed with her."
"Can I talk to him?"
"Absolutely."
Juliet handed the phone to Shawn.
"Hello?" Shawn asked.
"Congratulations." Maryanne said.
"Thank you."
"I hear you're obsessed with her."
"A little bit."
"I am buying a plane ticket right now for tomorrow and should be there tomorrow afternoon."
"That's good. Jules wants to talk to you."
"Ok. Congratulations again."
"Thank you."
Shawn handed the phone back to Juliet.
"Hey mom." Juliet said.
"How are you feeling?" Maryanne asked.
"Hurting. I had to have an emergency C-Section. She was in distress."
"Well, I'm going to let you get going, so you can rest. I love you."
"I love you too, mom."
Juliet hung up her phone and started falling asleep.
Shawn got up and gave Juliet a kiss before walking out of the room to call people.
"I love you." Juliet said.
"I love you too. We have a good little one." Shawn said.
"We do. I'm ready to get her home, so we can really see her personality."
"A few more days."
"I know."
"One more kiss?"
"For you? Always."
Juliet grabbed Shawn's shirt and yanked him down and kissed him.
Shawn pulled away and smiled.
"Go call people!" Juliet said.
Shawn nodded.
Shawn walked out in the hall and called his mom.
"Hello?" Maddie asked.
"Hey mom." Shawn said.
"Hey Goose. Is everything ok?"
"Yeah, we just welcomed the newest Spencer a few hours ago."
"What?"
"Yeah. Jules had to have an emergency C-Section."
"Is she ok?"
"Yes, both of my girls are doing good."
"Do you mind if we head up there?"
"Come on up!"
"Ok. I'll see you guys in a bit."
"See you mom."
Shawn hung up his phone and then called his dad.
"Hey father." Shawn said.
"Shawn." Henry greeted.
"Are you busy?"
"Getting ready to cook dinner."
"Pause that. Your granddaughter wants to meet you."
"What?"
"Yeah. She made her presence about 5 hours ago."
"She's not supposed to be here for a few more weeks."
"I know."
"How's Juliet?"
"Sore. She had to have an emergency C-Section."
"Why?"
"The baby was in distress."
"I have no idea what that means."
"I don't either, but apparently it means the baby isn't doing well."
"Well I'm glad they are ok."
"Thanks dad."
"When can I head up there?"
"Now. We just got done with the lactation nurse, so she's good without interruptions."
"Ok. Did you call your mom?"
"Yes. I just got off the phone with her."
"Ok. I love you. I'll see you soon."
"Love you too, dad."
Shawn smiled and hung up his phone called Gus.
Burton Guster." Gus answered.
"Hello Burton." Shawn said.
"Shawn what's up?"
"We have a very special girl for you to meet."
"When did she get here?"
"About an hour or so ago."
"And you're just now calling me?"
"Well Jules had to have a C-Section and I wanted to let her rest as much as possible before people started heading up here."
"So you two are good?"
"We are good."
"That's good. I'll see you in a bit."
"See ya man."
Shawn hung up the phone then called Carlton.
"Lassiter." Carlton said.
"Hey Lassie." Shawn said.
"What do you want Spencer?"
"Our little girl made her entrance about an hour ago."
"How's Juliet?"
"She's ok. She had to have an emergency C-Section."
"What about the baby?"
"Lassie, she's perfect."
"Wow you have a kid."
"I do. She's the best."
"Can I head up there?"
"Of course."
"I'll see you in a bit."
"Bye Lassie."
Shawn hung up the phone and turned to go back in the room and overheard his name.
"Hi there, what's the room for Juliet Spencer?" the mystery woman asked.
"Room 668." the nurse said.
Shawn turned around and saw his mom.
"Mom." Shawn said.
"Hey baby." Maddie said.
Maddie ran up to Shawn and hugged him.
"What are you doing here so soon?" Shawn asked.
"I was on this side of town. Can I go see her?" Maddie asked.
"Of course."
Shawn walked in and saw Juliet sleeping.
Maddie walked in behind him and quietly shut the door.
Shawn went up to Juliet and brushed the hair out of her eyes, "Sweetheart."
Juliet opened her eyes and locked eyes with Shawn, "Hi."
"Hey there. Your mother-in-law is here."
Juliet peered around Shawn and saw Maddie in the corner.
"Hey Maddie." Juliet said.
Maddie put her purse on the TV stand and walked over to Juliet, "Hey Juliet. How are you feeling?"
"Eh. You want to hold her?"
"Can I?"
Juliet smiled and nodded.
Maddie went over to the sink and washed her hands. She walked back over to Juliet and Juliet handed Natalie to her grandma.
Shawn pulled a chair up to his mother to let her sit down.
"Thank you." Maddie said.
"Of course." Shawn said.
Shawn sat down next to Juliet on the bed and held her hand.
"Guys, she's absolutely beautiful." Maddie said.
"Thank you." Shawn said.
"Shawn I hate to tell you this, but this baby is a mirror image of your wife."
Juliet laughed.
"That's not a bad thing. She has a little bit of me in there." Shawn said.
"Where?" Juliet asked.
"Well we haven't seen her smile yet, so I'm betting on her smile."
"Ok. How much you want to bet?"
"$50?"
"Deal."
Juliet and Shawn shook hands to seal the bet.
"I cannot believe you two just bet on your daughter." Maddie said.
"Did you expect anything else?" Shawn asked.
"You know, now that I think of it, not really."
"We're very competitive, mom."
"So I've seen."
There was a knock on the door and Carlton walked in.
Juliet saw a tall lanky guy walk through the door and smiled.
"Carlton!" Juliet squealed.
Shawn got up and let Carlton walk over to Juliet.
"Juliet." Carlton said.
"How are you?"
"I'm good. How are you?"
"Sore, but I'm sure it will last a week or so."
Carlton looked over to Shawn who was kneeled next to his mom just stroking his daughter's head.
"Spencer." Carlton said.
Shawn turned his head, "Hey Lassie."
"Is this her?"
"Her who?"
"Your daughter, you jackass."
"Carlton!" Juliet fussed.
"He's being an idiot."
"Carlton!"
"Sorry."
Shawn grabbed the baby from his mom, "Lassie, do you want to hold her?"
Carlton nodded.
Shawn handed Natalie to Lassiter.
"Hi there. I'm Carlton Lassiter, I'm your mom's boss." Carlton said.
Juliet rolled her eyes.
Carlton sat there just staring at Natalie.
"She's cute." Carlton said.
"She looks like Jules." Shawn said.
"Oh I see it."
Shawn smiled.
Henry walked through the door and saw his ex-wife and Carlton in the room.
"Son." Henry said.
"Hey pops." Shawn said.
"Where is she at?"
"Lassie's holding her."
Henry walked over to Carlton and held out his hands.
"What do you want?" Carlton asked.
"My granddaughter." Henry shot back.
Carlton looked at Juliet and Juliet nodded.
Carlton handed Natalie to Henry and Henry sat down next to Maddie.
"Hey Maddie." Henry said.
"Henry." Maddie greeted.
"This is our son's baby."
"I know."
Shawn looked at Juliet and saw tears in her eyes.
Shawn walked over to Juliet and sat down next to her.
"What's wrong?" Shawn whispered.
"Nothing. It just hit me that we have a baby. Like our own baby." Juliet whispered.
"Did you expect something else?"
Juliet laughed, "No."
"What do you think of her?"
"I absolutely love her."
"I do too."
Shawn's phone vibrated and it was Gus.
"Hello?" Shawn asked.
"Hey man." Gus said.
"Hey, what's up?"
"I'm running super behind today. When are you guys going home?"
"It's going to be a few days."
"Ok, so do you mind if I come see her tomorrow after I finish my route?"
"Gus of course you can come by tomorrow."
"Ok. Tell Juliet hey."
"Alright."
Shawn hung up the phone.
"Gus said hey." Shawn said.
"I heard." Juliet said.
Henry got up and handed Natalie back to Shawn.
Maddie got up and stood by Henry.
"You guys leaving?" Shawn asked.
"Yeah." Henry said.
"Thank you guys for coming." Juliet said.
Maddie walked over to Juliet, "She's absolutely beautiful."
Carlton got up and went over to Juliet.
"Hey partner." Juliet said.
"Hey. I'm going to get going." Carlton said.
"Ok. Thanks for coming."
"Of course."
Carlton snuck out and went home.
Henry took Shawn over to the corner of the room.
"Shawn, I want to say that I am proud of you." Henry said.
"Thanks dad. It means a lot to me, especially right now." Shawn said.
"She is beautiful. Let me know when you two get settled at home."
"Of course."
Henry bent down and kissed Natalie on her head and went and told Juliet goodbye.
"Juliet, I was just telling your husband over there that she is absolutely beautiful." Henry said.
"Thank you Henry. I'm just ready to get her home and see her personality come out." Juliet said.
"Let me know when you two get home and settled."
"Will do."
"Love you both."
"Love you too."
Henry and Maddie left Juliet's room and left the hospital.
Shawn shut the door and sighed.
"What's going through your head?" Juliet asked.
"Nothing…at all." Shawn said.
"Well why don't you put her in her little crib thing and come over here and cuddle with me."
"Yes ma'am."
Shawn put Natalie in her crib next to Juliet's bed and got in bed with Juliet and wrapped his arms around her.
"Did I tell you how proud I am of you?" Shawn said.
"Proud?" Juliet asked.
"Yeah. You handled today like a champ."
"Shawn I was a total wreck. When I found out that I had to have a C-Section I was freaking out."
"I know and I'm sorry I wasn't here for that news. I'm sorry for acting out period. I know I shouldn't fuss at you especially when you're in labor with our first child."
Juliet turned her head and looked at Shawn, "You know I understand why you got mad."
"I didn't get mad. I got frustrated."
"Same thing."
"Continue."
"But what I was saying, is that I understand why you acted like you did. I shouldn't have gone out in the field, especially not this close to my due date."
"I'm just glad you went into labor while you were still at the station. I would've liked you to have her on time, but she's a Spencer."
"She is that. I'm just glad Karen was there. If Lassiter was there instead I would have been mortified."
"You have a point."
Juliet yawned and kissed Shawn.
"I love you. I'll see you in a couple of hours when I have to feed her." Juliet said.
"I love you too." Shawn said.
Shawn gave Juliet one more kiss and then laid his head on top of her head.
