Day of Trip
Spencer House
It was 7:30 in the morning and Shawn's alarm went off.
As soon as the alarm went off Natalie started crying.
"I got her." Juliet said.
"Are you sure?" Shawn asked.
"Yeah. I need to feed her and pump before we get to the airport."
"Ok."
Juliet got out of bed and walked over to Natalie's crib in their room.
"Good morning." Juliet whispered.
Natalie saw Juliet and started to quiet down.
"Hey sweet girl. Let's go change you and feed you." Juliet said.
Juliet picked Natalie up out of her crib and walked to Natalie's room to change her.
Once Juliet got Natalie changed, she walked into the kitchen with her breast pump and put it on the coffee table and walked into the kitchen to put Natalie's bottle in the bottle warmer.
The bottle was warm and Juliet made her way to the couch to feed Natalie.
"Shawn!" Juliet called.
Shawn came jogging down the hall, "Yes?"
"I need you to hold her real quick while I get this set up."
"Ok."
Shawn walked over to Juliet and grabbed Natalie while Juliet got ready to pump.
"Can I have her back please?" Juliet asked.
Shawn smiled and gave Natalie back to Juliet.
Shawn left the living room and went to the bathroom to shower.
30 minutes later, Shawn walked out of the bedroom dressed and with their bags. He looked over to Juliet and saw her sleeping.
Shawn walked over to Juliet and woke her up.
"Baby." Shawn whispered.
"Hmmm?" Juliet moaned.
"We have to be at the airport in an hour."
Juliet opened her eyes and saw Shawn dressed and ready to go.
"Well you look handsome." Juliet flirted.
"You better get your cute ass in the shower right now before we miss our flight." Shawn said.
Juliet rolled her eyes and put Natalie in her bouncy seat and went and took a shower.
Shawn put the bags in the car and went back inside and got Natalie's diaper bag ready.
Shawn went to Natalie's room and grabbed diapers, a couple pair of extra clothes, wipes, and everything else he thought she needed.
Natalie started to fuss and Shawn put down the backpack and went to the living room to go check on Natalie.
"Hey, why are you fussing?" Shawn asked.
Shawn got 4 feet away from her and realized why she was crying.
"Oh yeah, this should be fun." Shawn mumbled.
Shawn picked Natalie up and brought her to her room and changed her diaper and changed her clothes.
"Better?" Shawn asked.
Natalie laughed.
"I bet you think that's funny." Shawn joked.
Shawn went and threw Natalie's clothes in the wash and started a quick load before they go.
Juliet got done with her shower and got dressed. She walked down the hall with her purse in her hands.
"Ready?" Juliet asked.
"I think so." Shawn said.
"What happened to her clothes?"
"Blowout. It was straight out of a horror movie."
Juliet laughed, "They don't happen often, does that make you feel better?"
"Not at all. Now can you double check her diaper bag?"
"Of course.
Juliet double checked Natalie's diaper bag and put her breast pump in the bag and the bottles of milk and then zipped it up.
"Now we're ready." Juliet said.
Shawn held Natalie and set the alarm and locked everything up and went and go in the car with Juliet. He put Natalie in her seat and buckled her up and gave her a kiss on her nose.
"I love you." Shawn said.
Natalie scrunched her nose in the same way Juliet does.
Shawn smiled and got in the car. He got in the car and drove to the airport.
"Jules, can you text my mom to ask her to come over in a few hours to transfer clothes?" Shawn asked.
"Why are there clothes in the wash?" Juliet asked.
"You can ask your daughter that question."
"Yeah."
Juliet texted Maddie and asked her if she could transfer clothes for them.
15 minutes later, Shawn pulled into the airport parking lot and got out under the valet cover.
The valet came to the door and offered to help Shawn.
"Thank you so much." Shawn said.
The valet got their bags out and Shawn put Natalie's diaper backpack on his back and got Natalie's seat and helped Juliet with the bags.
"Ready?" Shawn asked.
Juliet nodded.
Shawn paid his thanks to the valet and then grabbed his bag and Juliet followed.
They checked in and went through TSA and went to their gate.
Their plane got called and they boarded up.
Shawn bought 3 seats together, so they wouldn't have to be split up.
Shawn put Natalie's seat in the middle of him and Juliet.
Juliet got in her seat and waited on Shawn.
Shawn put the carry on up in the overhead compartment and then sat down.
Juliet watched Natalie as she looked around in fascination.
The flight attendant gave her speech and it was ready for take off.
During takeoff, Natalie started getting fussy, which Juliet remedied that by putting Natalie in her lap and letting her look out the window as they took off.
Shawn took out his phone and took pictures of Juliet and Natalie looking out the window.
5 hours later, they landed at Miami International and de-planed. They walked to baggage claim and grabbed their bags and went and ordered an Uber.
The Uber got there and Shawn and Juliet put their stuff in the trunk while Shawn got in the front and Juliet and Natalie in the back.
They pulled up to Juliet's mom's house and grabbed their bags and walked up the walkway and Shawn knocked on the door.
A few minutes later, Maryanne opened the door and saw the Spencers at her door.
"Oh my God." Maryanne said.
"Hey mom." Juliet said.
Maryanne ran outside and hugged her daughter, "I missed you so much."
Juliet put down her things on the sidewalk and gave her mom a proper hug.
"Why didn't you tell me you were coming?" Maryanne asked.
"Shawn wanted to surprise you." Juliet said.
Maryanne turned to Shawn and hugged him, "How are you?"
"Good. Tired, but good." Shawn said.
"Come on in and I'll show you to Juliet's old room."
Shawn and Juliet walked in the house and Maryanne guided them to Juliet's old room.
"It hasn't changed since high school." Juliet said.
"I know, it hasn't been used since you left." Maryanne said.
Shawn put their bags in the corner and went back over to Juliet and took Natalie out of her seat.
"How did she do?" Maryanne asked.
"Good. Got a little fussy during takeoff, but I put her in my lap and we looked out the window." Juliet said.
Juliet grabbed Natalie and her diaper bag and made her way into the living room.
"Are you two hungry?" Maryanne asked.
"What do you have?" Juliet asked.
"Leftover spaghetti."
"Shawn?" Juliet asked.
"That sounds good. My mom texted me and said she sent a package to the post office up the street and it's there." Shawn said.
"Ok."
"I can grab food while I'm out."
"Yeah, takeout?"
"Yeah. Who's all going to be here when I get back?"
"My brother."
"Ok, so order for all of us and I will see you in a bit."
"Whose car are you taking?"
Maryanne walked up to Shawn and handed him her keys.
"Are you sure?" Shawn asked.
"Yes. Plus you're getting the food." Maryanne said.
Shawn laughed, "Ok. I'll be back in a bit."
Juliet walked up to Shawn and kissed him, "Be safe you goofball."
"Of course. I love you." Shawn said.
"I love you too."
Shawn left Maryanne's house and drove to the Post Office. He got to the Post Office and parked.
Shawn got out of the car and into the Post Office and went up to the desk.
"Hi, how can I help you?" a lady asked.
"I'm looking for Ashley." Shawn said.
"I'm Ashley."
"Hey, I'm Shawn Spencer."
"Hi, Mr. Spencer. I have your boxes over here."
Ashley directed Shawn to the corner of the room and saw 4 boxes.
"How much do I owe you guys?" Shawn asked.
"Nothing. I think it's sweet what you're doing." Ashley said.
"Not even $20?"
"No. You go and enjoy your holiday."
"Thank you so much."
Shawn took the boxes and brought them to the car. He got back in the car and drove to pick up the food. He got back to Maryanne's house and got out and brought the boxes inside.
Juliet saw Shawn walk past her and she got up and followed him.
"Who are those for?" Juliet asked.
Shawn jumped when he heard Juliet's voice, "Nobody."
"Liar."
"It's Christmas gifts."
"Are they mine?"
"Maybe, maybe not."
"Oooh I hate you."
"No you don't. Now we have food on the counter."
"Thank you."
Juliet grabbed Shawn's hand and pulled him with her to the kitchen.
Shawn saw Juliet's brother and wife and kids at the counter.
"Bailey." Juliet said.
Bailey looked up and saw Shawn holding Juliet's hand.
"Is this him?" Bailey asked.
"Yes. This is my husband, Shawn."
Bailey got out of his seat and went and shook hands with Shawn.
"Nice to meet you." Bailey said.
"You too." Shawn said.
Natalie started to fuss and Shawn looked at Juliet.
"Go get her." Juliet whispered.
Shawn let go of Juliet's hand and went down to Juliet's room and got Natalie.
Shawn picked up Natalie and put her in his lap and he sat down on the bed.
"You're so pretty." Shawn said.
Back downstairs with Juliet.
"Is he normally that shy?" Bailey asked.
"No, I think he's extra nervous to meet you guys." Juliet said.
"Is he a good dad?"
Juliet and Bailey made their way to Juliet's old room and saw Shawn sitting on the bed with his back turned to them.
"Natalie, I'm super nervous here. I really want mommy's brother to like me. I want to show him that I'm not Ewan or Frank." Shawn said.
Juliet wiped a tear from her eye and looked at Bailey.
Bailey looked back at Juliet and smiled, "He's good."
"Thank you. Go talk to him." Juliet whispered.
Bailey knocked on the door and Shawn turned around.
"Hey man." Bailey said.
"Hey, what's up?" Shawn asked.
"Nothing much. Is this the girl?"
"This is the girl."
Juliet made her way into the room and saw Shawn her.
"Hey do you want to hold her for a second?" Shawn asked.
"Yeah." Bailey said.
Shawn handed Nat to Bailey and got up and went over to Juliet.
"Hey." Juliet whispered.
"Hey. How much did you hear?" Shawn asked.
"All of it."
Shawn smiled.
"You don't have to worry about being like Ewan or Frank, trust me."
Shawn smiled and bent down and kissed Juliet, "I love you."
Juliet wrapped her arms around Shawn's neck and pulled him closer, "I love you too."
Shawn pulled away, "I'm famished."
"Then let's go eat." Juliet said.
"Bailey are you coming?" Shawn asked.
"Where?" Bailey asked.
"To the dining room. Food is here."
"Yeah."
Bailey got up with Natalie and handed her back to Shawn.
"Has she eaten while I was gone?" Shawn asked.
"Yeah." Juliet said.
They all made their way into the dining room and Juliet rounded the corner and saw her grandparents.
"Nana?" Juliet asked.
Juliet's grandma turned around and got up and hugged her.
"Hey my baby." Juliet's nana said.
"Hey. I miss you." Juliet said.
"I miss you too."
Nana turned her head and saw Shawn and Natalie.
"Is this your amazing husband?" Nana asked.
"Yes. This is Shawn and that little one is Natalie." Juliet said.
"Nice to meet you, Shawn."
"Nice to meet you too, Nana?" Shawn asked.
Juliet laughed.
"Linda."
"So it's Nana Linda?"
Juliet laughed, "Sure, let's go with that."
Shawn looked at Juliet and smiled.
They made their way into the dining room and sat down for dinner.
Shawn sat down with Natalie in his lap and started to eat.
"Shawn, we bought Natalie some things, they're in the living room." Maryanne said.
"You did?" Juliet asked.
"Yeah. Why wouldn't we?"
"We don't visit often."
"Well, we got it for when you do visit."
"Thanks mom."
Juliet got up and grabbed Natalie from Shawn.
Shawn got up and followed Juliet to the living room.
They got to the living room and saw a pink bouncy seat and a pink play mat.
"What do you want Nat? You want to nap or play?" Shawn asked.
"Nap? You're just like your father." Juliet said.
Shawn smiled.
Juliet put Natalie in her bouncy seat and put her blanket over her.
Shawn and Juliet made their way to the table and sat down.
"How was your flight?" Bailey asked.
"Quiet. The baby did really good."
"She started to get fussy, so I put her in my lap and we looked out the window for a little bit." Juliet said.
"Which reminds me…" Shawn said.
Shawn took his phone out of his pocket and showed Juliet the pictures.
"You took these?" Juliet asked.
"Yeah. It's our daughter's first flight and you were doing some pretty cute stuff with her."
Juliet took Shawn's phone and showed Maryanne.
"These are good, Shawn." Maryanne said.
"Thank you. I have an entire album of Natalie, if you guys want to see some." Shawn said.
"Yeah, we can hook your phone up to the TV after dinner."
"That sounds nice." Juliet said.
They ate and swapped stories for a little bit.
Shawn got up and grabbed his plate and Juliet's plate and made his way around the table and grabbed everyone else's.
"Shawn, you don't have to do that." Maryanne said.
"Are you sure?" Shawn asked.
"That's why Bailey is here."
"You're joking." Bailey said.
"You wish."
"Mom…"
"Bailey Joseph, dishes now."
"Yes ma'am."
Bailey got up and went to the kitchen and began on the dishes.
Everyone made their way to the living room with Shawn and Juliet and Natalie on the tiny couch on the right side of the room.
"How was dinner?" Juliet asked.
"Good. How was yours?" Shawn asked.
"Good. Not as good as Santa Barbara though."
Shawn smiled.
Bailey's wife made her way over to Juliet.
"Hey Juliet." Bailey's wife said.
"Hey Alex. How are you?" Juliet asked.
"Good. The boys missed you."
"Where are they?"
"Probably upstairs."
"I'll go see them."
Juliet started to get up and handed Natalie to Shawn.
"I'll be back in a minute." Juliet said.
Shawn nodded.
Juliet went upstairs to the loft and knocked on the wall.
"Boys." Juliet said.
Riley got up and met Juliet at the entrance.
"Aunt Julie!" Riley said.
Garrett got up and hugged Juliet.
Juliet looked up at Garrett, "When did you grow?"
"When did you shrink?" Garrett asked.
"Come here."
Juliet grabbed Garrett's hand and walked downstairs.
"Alex! When did he grow?" Juliet asked.
"You're asking the wrong person." Alex said.
Riley and Garrett looked over to Shawn and waved.
"Boys, this is my husband, Shawn." Juliet said.
Shawn got up gently to try not to wake the sleeping baby, "Hey guys. Nice to meet you."
"And this is Natalie. Your cousin."
Garrett walked up to Natalie and bent down to see her.
"Gare, sit down." Juliet said.
Garrett sat down and Juliet handed Natalie to Garrett.
Garrett held Natalie and looked at Juliet and then at Shawn.
"Are you sure this is his kid?" Garrett joked.
"I'm 100% sure. She acts just like him." Juliet said.
"I didn't know O'Hara's had girls."
"Well we do. It's rare."
"Which I'm very glad that happened." Shawn said.
Juliet leaned into Shawn and hugged him.
Bailey walked back into the living room and saw Garrett holding Natalie.
"You better not have one for a long time." Bailey said.
"I'm only 13." Garrett defended.
"Still."
"Shawn, you can hook up your phone if you want." Maryanne said.
"Jules?" Shawn asked.
"Can I go through them first before we show them?" Juliet asked.
"Of course."
Shawn handed Juliet his phone and she went through the pictures that she didn't want to be seen.
"You let her see your phone?" Riley asked.
"Yeah. I'm married to her. I trust her with my life." Shawn said.
"Do you look at her phone?"
"When she wants to show me something, other than that, no."
"That's crazy."
"Not really. We're grown ups and we have nothing to hide."
Shawn walked over to Juliet's grandpa.
"Hi, I'm Shawn." Shawn said.
"Nice to meet you, son. I'm Robert." Robert said.
"Juliet has told me so many stories about when she was kid."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah. I've been wanting to meet you since she told me those stories, but work swamps us."
"You two work together?"
"We do. I have my own business, but I'm a consultant."
"Nice."
Juliet watched Shawn and her grandpa interact.
Juliet walked over to Shawn and bent down, "You two having a nice chat?"
"Yes we are dear." Robert said.
"Hey grandpa. I miss you."
"We miss you too, Juliet."
Juliet hugged her grandpa and then handed Shawn his phone back.
Shawn hooked up his phone to the TV and sat down on the couch.
Juliet walked up to Garrett, "Gare, give me my child and get up please."
"I was here first." Garrett said.
"Get up boy."
Garrett laughed and handed Natalie to Juliet and Juliet sat down.
"Ready?" Shawn asked.
Everyone nodded.
Shawn opened the album called Natalie Grace.
Shawn scrolled through them and found his favorite one.
"This one is from a couple of weeks ago. I was at my office and me and Natalie were taking a nap on the couch and Juliet walked in and snapped it." Shawn said.
Shawn scrolled to Juliet's favorite.
Shawn pulled up Juliet's favorite picture.
"This is my favorite one." Juliet said.
"I know." Shawn said.
"This was the first day I went back to work."
Shawn scrolled to the next one and it was Natalie's tooth.
"She's cutting teeth already?" Maryanne asked.
"Yeah. She's getting big." Juliet said.
"She's starting to push up when she's on her belly." Shawn said.
"Wow. How old is she?"
"She'll be 4 months in a couple of weeks."
"Shawn, you just said she'll be 4 months in a couple of days." Juliet whispered.
"Did I get the day wrong?"
Juliet laughed, "No. It's just that she's getting so big."
"I know sweetheart."
While Shawn was scrolling through pictures, his mom called.
"Excuse me." Shawn said.
Shawn disconnected his phone from the TV and went outside to talk to his mom.
"Hello?" Shawn asked.
"Shawn! What happened this morning?" Maddie asked.
"You're going to want to hear this, hold on."
Shawn walked back inside and grabbed Juliet.
Juliet walked outside with Natalie, "What's wrong?"
"Hold on." Shawn said.
"Mom, you there?" Shawn asked.
"Yeah." Maddie said.
"What was your question?"
"What happened this morning?"
Juliet laughed.
"Hello Juliet." Maddie said.
"Hey Maddie." Juliet said.
"Shawn! What happened?"
"Nat had a blowout this morning." Shawn said.
"Good God."
"It was Shawn's first one." Juliet added.
"It was an experience." Shawn said.
Maddie laughed.
"What's funny mom?" Shawn asked.
"I can picture you right now gagging."
"Gee thanks mom."
"I'm being honest."
"Thanks."
"Are you there yet?"
"Yeah, we got here about 2 hours ago."
"Well go back and enjoy your vacation."
"Bye mom."
"Bye Juliet."
"Bye Maddie. I'm sure we will talk later." Juliet said.
"We must."
"Bye." Shawn said.
Shawn hung up the phone and looked at Juliet, "You two are going to talk about me later aren't you?"
Juliet smiled and went inside.
Shawn followed Juliet back inside laughing.
"So is that a yes?" Shawn asked.
"Any time I talk to your mother 95% of our conversation is about you." Juliet said.
"95%?"
"Sometimes more."
"Why?"
"You don't tell your parents anything."
"Yeah that's true."
Juliet laughed and sat back down.
Shawn yawned and looked at Juliet.
"I'm going to bed, I'm exhausted." Shawn said.
"Well I'm going to sit out here for a little longer." Juliet said.
"And the baby?"
"She said she wants to stay with me."
"Fine."
Shawn bent down and kissed Juliet, "I love you."
"I love you too." Juliet said.
Shawn walked back to Juliet's old bedroom and changed into shorts and a t-shirt.
Juliet sat on the couch in the living room visiting with her family.
"How has the first year of marriage been?" Maryanne asked.
"Amazing." Juliet said.
"He seems like a good man." Alex said.
"He is. He is the most amazing man I've ever met. He's funny, crazy smart, and his heart is full of love."
Robert listened to what Juliet was saying, "You know, he looks at you like I look at Nana."
Juliet faced her grandpa, "Really?"
"Yeah. Even after 50 years I still look at Nana the same way that I did when we first met."
"50 years? That's insane."
"Sounds like it, but I know you two can make it to 50 years."
"Thanks grandpa."
Natalie started to get fussy and Juliet looked at her, "Fine, I guess you can go lay down with daddy."
Juliet got up and brought Natalie back to their room.
Juliet got to the door and knocked and went in.
"Hey my love." Juliet said.
Shawn turned around and saw Natalie and Juliet and sat up, "Hey my girls."
"She wanted to come lay down with you."
"Ahh. Is she hungry?"
"Probably."
"Go get her a bottle and then I'll feed her."
"You go get the bottle."
"I have no pants on."
Juliet shut the door and smiled.
Shawn saw Juliet shut the door slowly and looked at her eyes.
"Jules, no." Shawn said.
"Why not?" Juliet whined.
"We're in your mother's house."
"They're going shopping tomorrow morning."
"How early?"
"10."
"I think we can make that work."
"I love you."
"I love you too."
Juliet put Natalie on the bed with Shawn and walked over to Shawn's side of the bed and kissed him.
Shawn grabbed Juliet's cheeks and smiled through the kiss.
"You know, when I kiss you I always picture our wedding day or the kiss in Canada." Shawn said.
"Why those two?" Juliet asked.
"Two of the best days of my life."
"What about this one?"
Juliet bent down and kissed Shawn with more passion than the last.
Shawn pulled away and smiled, "This one has been added."
Juliet smiled, "I'll go get her bottle and then I'll come watch TV with you."
Shawn smiled.
Juliet left her room and into the kitchen and heated up Natalie a bottle.
The bottle was ready and Juliet got it and shook it up.
"Well, I'm going to call it a night." Juliet said.
"It's only 8:30." Maryanne said.
"Yeah, we travelled all day and we go to bed when she goes down."
"Well we will see you in the morning."
"See you."
"Love you guys."
"We love you too."
Juliet walked back to her room and saw Shawn and Natalie watching TV.
"Hello." Juliet said.
Shawn looked at Juliet and smiled, "Hello."
Juliet walked in the bedroom and shut the door and walked over to Shawn and handed him the bottle.
"Thank you." Shawn said.
"Of course." Juliet said.
Shawn sat up and fed Natalie while Juliet changed into just a t-shirt.
Juliet got in bed with Shawn and curled up to him.
"Give me a few more minutes and I promise we'll cuddle." Shawn said.
"Yay." Juliet said.
Shawn finished feeding Nat and burped her and put her in her playpen and got back in bed with Juliet and cuddled with her.
"I love you." Shawn said.
"I love you too." Juliet said.
"Your family is cool."
"I'm glad you like them."
"Do you think they like me?"
"Why do you care?"
"I just want to be on good terms with your family."
"Baby."
"Jules, like other people are so close to their in-laws."
"We live 3,000 miles away, we didn't see each other much when I was here because of work."
"Ok."
"Don't worry about if they like you or not. I'm married to you and I love you. Plus I'm a grown ass woman and I make my own decisions."
"Yeah you do."
Juliet laughed and kissed Shawn, "I love you. Now let's cuddle."
"You got it."
Shawn pulled Juliet closer and kissed her head and they watched TV until they both fell asleep.
