SBPD
Juliet walked into the station on Monday morning with a smile on her face.
Karen saw Juliet walk in and left her office and met Juliet at her desk.
"Good morning." Karen said.
"Good morning." Juliet said.
"How are you this morning?"
"A little tired. We got in late Saturday and spent the day sleeping yesterday."
"Did you have a good trip?"
"It was amazing."
"I would love to hear more, but come in my office."
"Ok…"
Juliet put her purse under her desk and went into Karen's office.
"What's up?" Juliet asked.
"Sit down." Karen said.
Juliet sat down in the chair across from Karen.
"What's going on?" Juliet asked.
"We have a difficult case." Karen said.
"What is it?"
"A 1-year old has been kidnapped."
Juliet felt tears it the back of her eyes.
"Who did it?" Juliet whispered.
"The mom thinks the father did it. They weren't on good terms. Fought a lot." Karen said.
"How old are the parents?"
"25."
"You're joking."
Karen shook her head.
Juliet sat back and sighed.
"Look, you don't have to take the case if you don't want. I know emotions are high on this one." Karen said.
"Um, I want to talk to Shawn about this first ok?" Juliet asked.
"Perfectly fine with me. I wanted to tell you in here because I know you're a new mom and it's your second week back at work since you had the baby."
"Good call."
"Juliet I know you want to go tell Shawn right now, so go ahead."
"Are you sure?"
Karen nodded, "Yeah. Tell him if he wants to be on the case with you, he can."
Juliet nodded, "Thank you. I'll be back shortly."
Karen nodded.
Juliet left Karen's office and went to her desk and grabbed her purse.
Juliet walked out of the station and to her car. She got in her car and drove back home.
Shawn
Shawn rolled over and threw his arm around Natalie. He felt someone in the bed and jumped.
"What are you doing in bed with me?" Shawn whispered.
Natalie looked at him while he talked.
Shawn picked up Natalie and left the bedroom.
A few minutes later the alarm beeped.
Shawn got up to see who was here and stopped at the hallway when he saw Juliet.
"Jules, what are you doing here?" Shawn asked.
Juliet put her purse down on the floor and ran to Shawn and grabbed Natalie out of his hands and went and sat down on the couch.
Shawn looked at Juliet and went and sat down next to her.
"Sweetheart, what's going on?" Shawn whispered.
"A 1-year old was kidnapped." Juliet said.
Shawn pulled Juliet close to him and kissed the top of her head, "She's ok, Jules."
"I know, but being a new mom has emotions running high." Juliet said.
"I know."
Juliet sat up and looked at Shawn, "Um, I'm actually here to talk to you about something."
"Karen asked you to be on the case?" Shawn guessed.
"Yeah. I told her I wanted to talk to you before I said anything. She said you are more than welcome to be on the case if I take it."
"How high are the chances that you are taking the case?"
"Pretty high. It's my job, Shawn. I know I'm a new mom and this case hits home, but I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't take this case."
"I know what you're saying. I will be more than happy to be on this case with you."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah. I know it's going to be emotional for both of us, but we have each other on this case, so that has to help a little bit."
Juliet smiled, "Yeah, it does."
"Do you want me to get my mom to watch Nat?" Shawn asked.
"Do you think she would mind?"
"Not at all. I'll call her right now and we'll go to work."
Juliet nodded.
"Hey, look at me." Shawn said.
Juliet looked up at Shawn.
"I'm right here. I will hug you and let you breakdown during this case. I might breakdown with you, but know this, our little girl is safe, we are safe, and I'm right here." Shawn said.
Juliet nodded.
Shawn bent down and kissed Juliet, "I love you."
"I love you too." Juliet whispered.
Shawn left the living room and went to the bedroom and grabbed his phone and called his mom.
"Hello?" Maddie asked.
"Hey mom, we need a gigantic favor." Shawn said.
"What is it?"
"Can you come watch Nat for us? We have a difficult case and I am going to help."
"Of course. Do you need me now?"
"Do you mind?"
"No, not at all. I'll see you guys in 30 minutes."
"Thank you so much, mom."
"Of course."
Shawn hung up the phone and went and hopped in the shower.
Shawn was just coming out of the bathroom when the doorbell rang. He ran down the hall and stopped Juliet from getting up.
"Stay there, I got it." Shawn said.
Juliet nodded.
Shawn opened the door and saw his mom.
"Hey mom." Shawn said.
"Why don't you have clothes on?" Maddie asked.
"I just got out of the shower. Come in."
Shawn moved out of the way and let his mom in.
Maddie walked in and saw Juliet on the couch holding Natalie.
"Good morning." Maddie said.
"Hey Maddie. How are you?" Juliet asked.
"Ok. How are you?"
Shawn walked in the living room and pulled his mom to the side.
"What?" Maddie asked.
"It's a hard day for her." Shawn whispered.
"Is she ok?"
"I think so. I'll fill you in later, ok?"
"Ok. Go get dressed."
Shawn ran back into the bedroom and quickly got dressed. He brushed his teeth and fixed his hair.
Shawn walked out of the bedroom and down the hall.
Shawn walked over to Juliet and sat down next to her.
"Hey, you ready to go?" Shawn whispered.
Juliet nodded.
"Ok, give me the baby." Shawn whispered.
Juliet reluctantly handed Natalie to Shawn.
"Hey sweet girl, you are going to be spending the day with grandma." Shawn said.
Shawn handed Nat to Maddie, "I want you to keep an eye on her at all times."
"Why?" Maddie asked.
"Please? I don't want Juliet to worry while we're working this case."
"Ok. What time will you be back?"
"I'll be home around 2 to check on her, but then I'll head right back out."
"Ok."
Shawn walked over to Juliet and held out his hand for her.
Juliet took Shawn's hand and intertwined their fingers.
Shawn grabbed his keys and wallet.
Juliet grabbed her purse off the floor and walked out of the house with Juliet.
They got in the car and Shawn drove to the station.
Shawn pulled into Juliet's parking spot and they got out of the car and walked into the station.
Karen saw Juliet and Shawn walk in with somber looks. She walked out of her office and over to Juliet.
"Hey." Karen said.
"Hey." Juliet said.
"Shawn, can I talk to you for a second?" Karen asked.
Shawn nodded.
Juliet let go of Shawn's hand and went and sat down at her desk.
Shawn followed Karen to her office and shut the doors behind him.
"What's up?" Shawn asked.
"How is she doing?" Karen asked.
"She's ok. I called my mom and she's at the house with the baby."
"Ok. You think she can handle this case?"
"Honestly Karen, I don't know, but I told her that I would be right beside her through the entirety of this case."
Karen nodded, "The files are on her desk and Carlton is out in the field."
Shawn nodded.
Shawn turned around and walked out the door.
"And Shawn?" Karen asked.
Shawn turned around, "Yeah?"
"If you think this case gets too difficult for the both of you, please let me know immediately."
"You got it."
Karen smiled.
Shawn walked out of Karen's office and over to Juliet's desk.
"Hey there." Shawn said.
"Hey. Carlton is on the way with the mom." Juliet said.
"Are you going to be in there?"
"Yeah, he's going back to his desk to get the dad's information."
"I'll be right here beside you, ok?"
Juliet smiled, "Thank you."
"Juliet, I love you. I would do anything for you, especially during a hard case like this one."
Juliet got up and wrapped her arms around Shawn's neck and kissed him.
"Babe, we're in the station." Shawn mumbled.
Juliet pulled away and blushed.
"You're cute when you blush." Shawn said.
"Shut up." Juliet laughed.
Carlton walked in the station with the mom right behind him.
"Spencer. Room A." Carlton said.
"Ready?" Shawn asked.
"Don't have much of a choice." Juliet said.
Shawn and Juliet walked over to Carlton.
"No, only she's going in that room." Carlton fussed.
"Carlton, this is an emotional case for Juliet, I'm going to be in there with her." Shawn growled.
Carlton backed off and looked at Shawn, "What's wrong with you?"
"I'm being her husband. Now if you'll excuse me."
Shawn walked into the interrogation room and sat down next to Juliet.
"Hi there, I'm Detective Spencer and this is my husband, Shawn." Juliet said.
"Why is he here?" the mom asked.
"He's a consultant here."
"Ok."
Juliet looked at the file and saw her name was Megan.
"Megan, when was the last time you saw your daughter?" Juliet asked.
"Wednesday night. Her dad wanted to come pick her up to bring her over to his mom's house for a couple of days. When she wasn't back on Saturday that's when I knew something was up." Megan said.
"Did you call his mom?"
"Yeah. She said she never saw them."
"What's her name?"
"Cindy Lewis."
Juliet wrote that name down.
"Now are you and his mom on good terms?" Juliet asked.
"Yeah. She's been a big help with the baby. Even though he's a total jackass, his mom is super helpful." Megan said.
"Do you have a custody arrangement with him?" Shawn asked.
"Sort of. He has her on Tuesday and Wednesday, but I get her the rest of the days."
"Do you mind me asking what the father's name is?"
"Brent Jacobs."
Shawn turned to Juliet, "Do you mind if I step out for just a second?"
"Go. My computer should be unlocked." Juliet said.
Shawn nodded and squeezed Juliet's hand before leaving.
Shawn walked over to Juliet's desk and started looking up Brent Jacobs.
Carlton came around the corner and saw Shawn in Juliet's seat.
"Where's your wife?" Carlton asked.
"Still in Room A." Shawn said.
"Why is she acting weird?"
Shawn turned around, "Carlton, she's a brand new mom, this case hits home."
"Why are you here?"
"Because Juliet wants me here. To be honest, I wasn't going to let Jules take the case if I wasn't helping."
"Why?"
"Didn't I just say this?"
"What?"
"Our daughter is 3 months old, like brand new. Like what are you not getting about this?"
Carlton shrugged.
"Ok, let me put it this way. What if it was Lily?"
"I would be pissed."
"Exactly! Juliet wants to help that mother in there who is only 25, get her baby back."
Carlton nodded, "Maybe you're not an incompetent jackass…"
"Gee thanks, Lassie."
Carlton laughed and walked back to his desk.
Shawn pulled up Brent's file and printed it out and went back to Room A.
Shawn walked in the room and saw Juliet and Megan laughing.
"Hey you two." Shawn said.
Juliet looked up and saw her husband with papers in his hand.
"What are you two laughing about?" Shawn asked.
"I was telling her about Nat." Juliet said.
"Yeah her facial expressions are the best. She doesn't have eyebrows yet, sometimes I draw them on her just for fun." Shawn said.
"You put eyebrows on our child?"
"With your eyeliner…"
Juliet rolled her eyes.
"How long have two been married?" Megan asked.
"A little over a year." Shawn said.
"And you already have a baby?"
"We found out that Juliet was pregnant a week before our wedding."
Megan smiled.
"Well I hate to be the boring one, but I have Brent's file right here." Shawn said.
"Did you get anything?" Juliet asked.
"I haven't looked at it yet. Want to look at it first?"
Juliet grabbed the file from Shawn and looked over the file.
"When did you two start dating?" Juliet asked.
"High school. I thought we were going to get married, but…" Megan said.
"Yeah. But your daughter is 1 right?"
"Yeah. We were still happy when we found out we were pregnant."
"When did it take a turn?"
"About 6 months ago. He started sneaking around and sleeping with other girls. When I told him that I wanted him out of the house, that's when everything changed. He wanted to see her everyday and I told him that wasn't going to happen, because he has been acting out lately."
"That was a wise move." Shawn said.
"Well I'm her mother and I don't want her to be near that kind of behavior."
Juliet nodded, "No parent wants that for their child."
Shawn nodded in agreement.
During the interrogation, Shawn's phone rang.
"Excuse me." Shawn said.
Shawn left the interrogation room and answered his phone.
"Hello?" Shawn asked.
"Hey Shawn, it's mom." Maddie said.
"Hey. Is something wrong?"
"Where is Juliet?"
"Interrogating someone…"
"Um…ok."
Shawn poked his head inside, "Hey Jules, mom wants to talk to you."
Juliet turned around quickly and went outside and took the phone.
Shawn took her spot in the interrogation room.
"Hey Maddie." Juliet said.
"Hey. She's running a tiny fever." Maddie said.
"What is it?"
"100."
"If you go look in our bathroom, there should be some Children's Motrin in the cabinet over the towel rack."
"Sorry to scare you."
"Maddie, it's ok."
"Thank you so much."
"Of course, tell her momma and daddy will be home in a little bit."
"Sure will."
Juliet hung up Shawn's phone and walked back into the interrogation room.
"Everything ok?" Shawn asked.
"She's running a tiny fever." Juliet said.
"I can go home if you need me to."
"Your mom has it."
"Are you sure?"
Juliet grabbed Shawn's hand under the table and squeezed, "Yes."
Shawn squeezed Juliet's hand back and turned back to Megan.
"Is everything ok?" Megan asked.
"Yeah, she's just running a tiny fever." Juliet said.
Shawn and Juliet finished the interrogation and brought Megan up to the desk where she was free to leave.
"Megan, we will do everything we can to bring your daughter home." Shawn said.
"Thank you so much." Megan said.
Shawn and Juliet walked away from Megan and over to Carlton's desk.
"Carlton…" Juliet said.
Carlton looked up, "What's up?"
"Have you found the dad yet?"
Carlton shook his head.
"Damn it." Shawn said.
"Why is he acting like that?" Carlton asked.
"Carlton, he's a new dad, of course he's going to act different." Juliet said.
"I don't get it."
"Carlton, would you do everything in your power to protect Lily?"
"Of course, what kind of question is that?"
"That's what Shawn is doing. He wants to get Megan's daughter back to her safely."
Carlton nodded.
Juliet looked at her watch and saw that it was 1:30.
"I'm going home for the day." Juliet said.
"I'll call you if the uniforms find him." Carlton said.
"Thank you."
Juliet left Carlton's desk and walked to her desk and grabbed her purse and Shawn's hand.
"Are you done for the day?" Shawn asked.
"I am now." Juliet said.
"Sounds good to me."
Shawn got out of Juliet's chair and they walked to the car.
They got in the car and drove home.
Shawn pulled into the garage and Juliet got out of the car before Shawn even turned off the car.
Juliet walked in the house and saw Natalie sleeping in her swing.
Maddie looked at Juliet and went and hugged her.
"How do you do this?" Juliet asked.
"What?" Maddie asked.
"Like you came up and hugged me out of nowhere."
"Juliet, I'm a mother. Plus I saw the relief on your face and the tears in your eyes."
Juliet wiped her tears on her jacket.
"Come sit down and talk." Maddie said.
A few seconds later Shawn walked in and saw Maddie hugging Juliet.
Shawn joined the hug.
"Not now, son." Maddie said.
"Juliet, are you ok?" Shawn asked.
"I'm home and the baby is safe, so yeah." Juliet said.
Shawn walked passed the women and went to the bedroom and changed into more comfortable clothes.
Maddie and Juliet made their way to the couch and sat down.
"What's going on?" Maddie asked.
As soon as Maddie asked that question, Shawn walked in and sat down next to Juliet.
Juliet grabbed Shawn's hand out of comfort.
"I can tell her." Shawn said.
"Just give me a second." Juliet whispered.
Shawn nodded and pulled Juliet closer to him and wrapped his arms around her.
Juliet took a deep breath and sighed.
"The case we're working on now, is a kidnapping. She is only 1." Juliet said.
Maddie nodded.
"Me being a new mom and all has my emotions going insane. Karen told me that I didn't have to take the case if I didn't want to."
"Why did you?" Maddie asked.
"It's my job. Plus if I was in that position, I would want the detectives to work their asses off to find my baby."
"Shawn?" Maddie asked.
"Hmm?" Shawn said.
"How are you during this?"
"Hard. Like Juliet said, I'm a dad now. Like I am that baby's father. If she got kidnapped…"
Juliet grabbed Shawn's hand.
"But look, she's right there in her swing holding one of your shirts." Juliet said.
Shawn smiled, "She is. Natalie is one of the most important people in my life. It's my job to protect her as her dad."
"Goose, you are a terrific dad to that little girl. In my opinion, she has the best dad in the world." Maddie said.
"I try to be. It's easy now because she's a baby."
Juliet leaned her head on Shawn's shoulder, "I want her to be a baby forever."
"I do too, but I'm also excited to see her become the woman she will become."
"Damn Spencer, I have to agree with your mom…she does have the best dad in the world."
Shawn smiled, "I can only be the best dad in the world with you being the best mom in the world."
Natalie started to fuss.
Juliet got up and picked Natalie up and rocked her back to sleep.
Maddie got her purse and stuff together and headed for the door.
"Mom, I want to thank you for today." Shawn said.
"Of course. I will watch her any time you guys need to work." Maddie said.
"Better keep your schedule open these next few weeks."
"I will. I hope you find that little girl."
"I do too."
Maddie walked over to Juliet, "Call me if you guys need anything."
"Of course. Thank you for today." Juliet said.
Maddie hugged Juliet and then kissed Natalie on her head.
Shawn walked his mom out and then headed back inside.
Shawn shut the door and locked the house up and went into the living room and sat down on the couch.
Juliet walked over to Shawn and sat on his lap.
"Hey." Juliet mumbled.
"Hey. You ok?" Shawn asked.
Juliet nodded.
"How about all 3 of us pile in our bed and take the best nap ever?" Shawn suggested.
"As long as we cuddle for the rest of the day." Juliet said.
"We can cuddle for forever."
Juliet smiled and leaned in and kissed Shawn.
"I love you, Shawn Spencer." Juliet said.
"I love you too, Juliet Spencer." Shawn said.
"And we love you Natalie." Juliet said.
Juliet got off of Shawn's lap and made her way to their bedroom.
Shawn turned off everything and headed to the bedroom for the rest of the day.
