Same Case, Different Day
2:45 Tuesday Morning
It was 2:45 in the morning on Tuesday and Juliet's phone rang.
"Jules…turn it off." Shawn mumbled.
Juliet hit Shawn in the side and rolled over and answered the phone.
"Hello?" Juliet mumbled.
"I'm sorry to wake you, but we found him." Karen said.
Juliet sat up quickly, "Are you sure?"
"Yeah, we have the girl and the dad is in the cells."
"Well I'll be there in a little bit."
"Ok."
Juliet hung up the phone and got out of bed and threw on a pantsuit and some heels. She went in the bathroom to throw her hair in a bun and brush her teeth.
Shawn heard heels walking down the hall and got up.
"Jules, what are you doing?" Shawn asked.
"They got him." Juliet said.
"Really?"
Juliet nodded.
"I would like you to wait for me."
"Do you want to bring our child to the station with a kidnapper?"
"Buzz will be there."
"Fine."
Shawn ran to his closet and put some clothes on, brushed his teeth and then grabbed Natalie and her diaper bag.
Shawn and Juliet went to the car and Shawn put Natalie in her seat.
"Babe, do you have your phone?" Juliet asked.
Shawn checked his pockets for his wallet and phone, "Yep."
Juliet nodded.
Shawn got in the car and drove to the station.
Juliet took her phone out and set the alarm.
"You forgot to set the alarm." Juliet mentioned.
"Sorry." Shawn apologized.
Juliet smiled, "We're in a rush. You're good."
Shawn pulled into the SBPD and Juliet got out of the car and ran into the station.
Shawn got out of the car and went and grabbed Natalie and her diaper bag and walked in the station.
Karen saw the Spencers walk into the station and met them at Juliet's desk.
"Detective." Karen said.
"Hey, where is he?" Juliet asked.
"Carlton took him to Room B, wanted to wait for you to get here."
"Can I go?" Shawn asked.
"Well you are on the case." Karen said.
"Good. Oh also, can you maybe keep an eye on little one?"
"Is she sleeping?"
Shawn nodded.
"Yeah put her behind my desk. I have a blanket in one of my drawers, you can put that over her seat."
"Thank you so much."
"Has she eaten in the last 3 hours?"
"There's a bottle of milk in there."
"Good, now go."
Shawn walked into Karen's office and put Natalie behind her desk. He went to the second drawer on the left and pulled out a thick black blanket and put it over Natalie's seat.
Shawn bent down, "Hey my girl. Mommy and I will be right back. We love you."
Shawn kissed Natalie on the head and took off her diaper bag and put it next to her seat.
Juliet walked into Karen's office to see what was taking so long.
"You almost done?" Juliet asked.
"Yeah, I was just telling her that we love her." Shawn said.
Juliet smiled and held out her hand for Shawn.
Shawn grabbed Juliet's hand and pulled her close to him, "I'm glad he's off the street."
Juliet hugged Shawn and nodded.
"After we talk to him, I'm going to call the mom." Juliet said.
"Good idea." Shawn said.
Shawn and Juliet made their way to Room B.
Juliet knocked on the door and went in.
Carlton turned around and saw Juliet and Shawn, "Spencer."
"Hey, we got it from here." Juliet said.
Carlton got up, "Can I talk to you outside?"
Juliet nodded.
Shawn looked at Juliet, "What's going on?"
"I'll be back in a second." Juliet whispered.
Shawn nodded and sat down.
Carlton and Juliet walked out to the observation room.
"What's up?" Juliet asked.
"Is Spencer on the case?" Carlton asked.
"Yeah. He knew it was going to be a hard case for me, so he has been by my side the entire case." Juliet said.
"Well, grill that son of a bitch."
"You got it, partner."
Juliet walked back into the room and sat down next to Shawn.
"Hi, I'm Detective Spencer, this is my husband, Shawn." Juliet said.
"You work with your husband?" Brent asked.
"He's a consultant, but yeah."
Brent sat back and put his feet on the table.
Shawn pushed Brent's feet off the table, "What do you think you're doing?"
"Relaxing…" Brent said.
Shawn leaned forward, "You are arrested for kidnapping your child."
"I did not kidnap her."
"Oh yeah? What do you call taking your child from her mother, saying that you were staying at your mother's house and then not showing up to your mom's house without notice?"
"Visitation?"
"No fool, you kidnapped your daughter."
"What did Megan tell you?"
"Everything we need to know about you." Juliet said.
Brent leaned forward and got in Juliet's face, "You know nothing."
Shawn got up and pulled Brent back by the collar of his shirt.
"Do not, get in my wife's face. We just need to know why you did what you did." Shawn said.
"To piss off Megan." Brent said.
"Why?" Juliet asked.
"She told me I was a bad father."
"What made her say that?"
"Well, I may have left the house without her once or twice."
"Once or twice? What were you thinking?"
"I was with a girl and I didn't want her to know I had a kid."
"That's when you call Megan and ask for help. You don't leave a child by themselves…especially a baby."
"Like you've never left your child."
"We haven't left our daughter." Shawn said.
"Bullshit."
Shawn looked at Juliet and rolled his eyes.
"Look, if we both leave the house, the baby is going with either one of us or I call my mother to watch her." Shawn said.
"Can I go now?"
"No. You're obviously are going to bullshit your way through this, so I'm bringing in my partner." Juliet said.
"What that lanky dude?"
"Yeah."
Shawn and Juliet got up and walked out of the room and over to Carlton's desk.
"Get anything from him?" Carlton asked.
"Nothing. He said a lot of bullshit and never gave us a straight answer." Juliet said.
"I'll go talk to him."
"Thank you, I'm going to call the mother."
"Sounds good."
Juliet turned to Shawn, "I want to punch that dude in the face."
"Uh yeah, me too." Shawn said.
"Let's go get the baby."
Shawn and Juliet walked over to the holding cells and saw Buzz sitting in the corner playing with the little girl.
"Buzz!" Shawn said.
"Hey guys, are you here for her?" Buzz asked.
"Yep."
Buzz got up and picked up the little girl and handed her to Juliet.
Juliet took the baby from Buzz, "Hi there, I'm Juliet. We are going to get you back to your momma."
The baby put her head on Juliet's shoulder.
Shawn watched Juliet's reaction to the baby's movement.
Juliet looked at Shawn, "I don't want this to happen just yet."
"We got a while, sweetheart." Shawn said.
Juliet smiled.
Juliet went to her desk and sat down with the little girl.
Shawn went into Karen's office and saw her rocking Natalie to sleep.
"Hey, how is she doing?" Shawn asked.
"Good. She's starting to recognize when you two aren't around." Karen said.
Shawn smiled, "Well, can I have her back please?"
"Of course."
Karen gave Natalie back to Shawn, "I'll bring her stuff to Juliet's desk."
"Thank you."
Shawn grabbed Natalie, "Hey baby girl, daddy's here. You have your daddy back."
Shawn walked out of Karen's office and over to Juliet's desk.
"Hey. How is she?" Juliet asked.
"Karen said she started to fuss when she woke up and didn't see us." Shawn said.
The little girl looked up at Shawn and pointed to Natalie.
"Baby." the little girl said.
Juliet smiled, "Yep. That's my baby."
"Have you called the mom yet?" Shawn asked.
Juliet shook her head, "I was just about to."
"Well I'm here now."
Juliet smiled.
Juliet dialed Megan's number on her office phone.
"Hello?" Megan asked.
"Hey Megan, this is Juliet Spencer." Juliet said.
"Hey Detective. How are you?"
"Good. We actually have someone here who wants her momma."
"You have her?"
"We do. I got a call around 2:45 this morning."
"Is Brent there?"
"He is, but he is being interrogated."
"Ok, I can be there in 15 minutes."
"See you then."
"Thank you."
"No problem."
Juliet hung up the phone and turned to Shawn, "What time is it?"
Shawn took out his phone and saw that it was 4:30.
"4:30." Shawn said.
"Jesus Christ."
Natalie started to fuss and Shawn started to rock her again.
Shawn had his eyes closed rocking the baby back and forth.
Juliet took her phone out and took a picture of Shawn and Natalie.
Megan walked through the station and went straight to Juliet's desk.
"Juliet." Megan said.
Juliet looked up and met Megan halfway.
"Hey Megan." Juliet said.
"Where is she?" Megan asked.
Juliet moved out of the way and showed Megan that her baby was sitting in Juliet's chair playing on her phone.
Megan went over to the baby and squatted, "Hey babygirl."
The baby looked up, "Momma!"
Megan picked up her baby and hugged her.
"I missed you so much, Alex." Megan said.
Alex threw her arms around her mom's neck and put her head on her shoulder.
"Juliet, thank you so much." Megan said.
"Megan, it is our job, but you're welcome." Juliet said.
Megan turned to Shawn and saw him rocking a baby.
"Is this your baby?" Megan asked.
"Yep. This is Natalie." Juliet said.
Shawn opened his eyes and saw Megan, "Hey Megan."
"Hey Shawn. I was just thanking Juliet for everything." Megan said.
Juliet walked over to Shawn and wrapped her arms around his waist.
"She is a rockstar at what she does." Shawn said.
"I couldn't do it without you by my side." Juliet said.
Shawn smiled.
Karen walks out of her office and saw the trio talking.
Juliet saw Karen walk out of her office.
"Megan, this is my boss, and the Chief of Police, Karen Vick." Juliet said.
Megan turned to Karen, "Thank you."
Megan shook Karen's hand.
"You're more than welcome. She's a cutie." Karen said.
"Well, we are going to get going. Juliet, Shawn, thank you again."
"Of course. You two have a safe trip home. Don't worry about him, we got him taken care of." Juliet said.
Megan smiled and sighed, "That's exactly what I want to here."
Megan hugged Juliet and Juliet hugged back.
Megan walked out of the station and to her car.
Shawn turned to Juliet and Juliet finally broke down.
Shawn gently pushed Juliet in her chair and then pulled up a chair and held her hand.
"Baby, we did it." Shawn said.
Juliet nodded, "This was a rough case."
"I know it was, but we did our job and we found the dad and the baby is back home SAFE with her mother."
Karen walked back into her office to give the couple some privacy.
"Thank you." Juliet whispered.
"Baby, you're welcome. I told you I was going to be right by your side." Shawn said.
"I love you."
"I love you, too."
Juliet leaned in and kissed Shawn and then put her head on his shoulder.
"Baby, it's almost 5:45, you ready to get home?" Shawn asked.
"I can't. I have to be in at 7, so I'm just going to stay." Juliet said.
"You don't have your car."
"I know, I'll call you when I'm done here."
Shawn stood up with Natalie and pulled Juliet up with him.
"Go home, I'm pretty sure Karen will give me a half day since I've been here since 2:45." Juliet said.
"Ok. Well, give me a hug." Shawn said.
Juliet gave Shawn a hug and put her hand on Natalie's back and rubbed her back.
"We love you." Shawn said.
"I love you guys too." Juliet said.
Shawn bent down for a kiss and Juliet kissed Shawn.
Shawn deepened the kiss and then pulled away.
"Text me when you get home please." Juliet said.
"Yes ma'am. I love you." Shawn said.
"I love you too."
Shawn put Natalie in her seat and grabbed her diaper bag and walked out of the station and to his car. He got to his car and put Natalie in the car and put her diaper bag in the car and got in.
Shawn drove home and went inside and put Natalie in his bed and got in bed with her.
While Shawn was getting in bed, he accidentally called Juliet.
"Hello?" Juliet asked.
Shawn laid down with Natalie.
"Oh sweet baby girl. I am so glad you are here and safe. I don't know what me and momma would do if that happened to you. I know we've only known each other for 3 months, but Nat, you are the best little girl a dad could ask for. Yeah I'm new at this whole dad gig, but I got your momma right beside me to help me be the best dad to you." Shawn said.
Juliet listened to Shawn's conversation with Natalie.
"You know, the day you were born, I fell in love with your mom all over again. She's my rock, my best friend, my baby momma, don't tell her I said that. She's the most important person in my life, as you get older, I will tell you what happened with me and my family, but you probably aren't even listening now. I love you so much baby girl. I can't wait for you to have a sibling. I'm trying to get mom to let us get a dog, but you know how she is. Take your nap now, sweet girl. I'm right here." Shawn finished.
Juliet sat at her desk with tears in her eyes.
Karen saw Juliet wipe a tear from her face and walked out of her office.
"Spencer, go home." Karen said.
"You sure?" Juliet asked.
Karen nodded.
"I don't have my car." Juliet said.
"Well then let's go." Karen said.
Karen grabbed her keys and purse and walked out to her car.
Juliet followed Karen to her car and got in.
Karen drove Juliet home and then headed back to work.
Juliet walked in the house and put her stuff down quietly and made her way into the bedroom and saw Shawn and Natalie passed out on the bed.
Juliet walked over to Shawn and got on top of him.
Shawn stirred and felt a weight on him.
Shawn opened his eyes and smiled when he saw Juliet.
"Hey." Shawn whispered.
"Hey. You know you accidentally called me."
"Did I?"
"Yeah. I listened to the whole conversation that you had with Nat."
Shawn smiled shyly.
"I loved every bit of it." Juliet mentioned.
"I meant every single word of it too." Shawn said.
Juliet kissed Shawn and rested her forehead on his.
"Nap time?" Shawn asked.
Nap time." Juliet said.
Shawn let Juliet get comfortable and then pulled her close to him and started to doze off.
