Valentine's Day
It was Valentine's Day and Juliet was at work, but Shawn was at home with the baby.
Around 8 that morning, Natalie started to fuss.
Shawn rolled over and looked at the clock and noticed Juliet was gone.
"Jules?" Shawn called out.
He waited a few seconds and heard nothing. He got out of bed and went over to Natalie's crib and picked her up.
"Hello. Are you hungry?" Shawn asked.
Natalie looked at him and smiled.
Shawn picked Natalie up and went into the kitchen and warmed her up a bottle.
While the bottle was warming, Shawn's phone rang.
Shawn reached over the counter and grabbed his phone.
"Hello?" Shawn asked.
"Well hello." Juliet said.
"Who is this?"
"Your wife!"
"I know, I'm just messing with you."
Juliet sighed.
"What's up beautiful?" Shawn asked.
"Karen is keeping the baby tonight." Juliet said.
"All night?"
"No. Just until midnight."
"What do you have planned, Juliet?"
"It's a surprise."
"I don't like surprises."
"That's bullshit and you know it."
Shawn laughed, "You're right."
"So I'm heading home around 5:45. Be ready to go by 6:15."
"What's today?"
"Look at the calendar on the fridge."
Shawn turned around and saw a big heart drawn around Valentine's Day.
"Ohhh." Shawn said.
"Yeah, ohhh." Juliet said.
"Well, let me go. The baby is hungry."
"I love you."
"I love you too."
Shawn hung up the phone and gave Natalie her bottle.
After Natalie got done with her bottle, Shawn went and bathed Natalie and got her dressed.
Shawn turned to Natalie and brought her into his bedroom and put her in her swing.
"Listen here kiddo. Daddy is going to take a quick shower. Please play with your toys for a few minutes." Shawn said.
Natalie reached up for Shawn.
Shawn bent down and picked her up.
"What's going on, baby girl?" Shawn whispered.
Natalie put her head on Shawn's shoulder.
Shawn looked down and saw Natalie falling asleep. He walked around the house for a solid 10 minutes to make sure Natalie was out cold. He made his way back to the bedroom and put Natalie on the bed gently and went and took a shower.
Shawn took his shower and walked out of the bathroom and saw Natalie still sleeping. He went to his closet and grabbed jeans and a shirt and got dressed.
After Shawn got dressed, he went back in the bathroom to brush his teeth and fix his hair.
"Oh Natalie…" Shawn cooed.
Shawn walked back into the bedroom and picked up Natalie.
"Are you ready to go pick up momma's present?" Shawn whispered.
Shawn got Natalie's diaper bag ready and then grabbed Natalie and walked out of the house and put Natalie in her carseat. He turned back around and grabbed his wallet and phone on the table by the door. He locked up the house and got in the car and saw that Natalie was still sleeping.
Shawn left the house and went to the jewelry store and picked up Juliet's necklace with Natalie's birthstone on it. He went to the flower shop and picked up the flowers he ordered and then went to the station.
Shawn pulled into the parking spot next to Juliet's car and he got out and grabbed Natalie's backpack and the flowers. He got all that situated and then went and got Natalie out of her seat.
Shawn kicked the door closed and walked into the station. He walked up the steps and didn't see Juliet at her desk.
Shawn went to Karen's office and saw the blinds closed.
Shawn knocked on the door and Karen opened it.
"Mr. Spencer, what are you doing here?" Karen asked.
"To bring Juliet flowers." Shawn said.
"I'm in the middle of a briefing."
"Sorry, I'll just go put these down and head out."
"If you wait like 5 minutes she'll be out."
"Nah, I don't want to interrupt her. Sounds like an important case if the blinds are closed."
"It is. Have a good day, Mr. Spencer. I'll see you tonight."
Shawn smiled.
Shawn walked away from Karen's office and went and set the flowers on Juliet's desk and left the station.
Shawn got home and put Juliet's gift in the console so he didn't lose it. He got out of the car and got Natalie out of her seat and walked inside.
Shawn went straight for the couch and sat down with Natalie.
"Well that was a bust, little one." Shawn whispered.
SBPD
Juliet walked out of Karen's office and went to her desk and saw flowers. She turned on her heels and went back to Karen's office.
"Do you know who left the flowers?" Juliet asked.
"Your husband." Karen said.
"Where is he at?"
"He went home."
"Why didn't he stay?"
"He told me he didn't want to interrupt you during this big case."
Juliet pouted, "I wish he left me a note or something."
Juliet left Karen's office and went back to her desk. She looked at her watch and saw that it was 11:45.
"Karen, I'm going home for lunch. I'll be back later." Juliet said.
Karen nodded.
Juliet grabbed the flowers and her purse and left the station and headed home.
Juliet pulled into the garage and got out of the car with her purse and flowers and went inside.
Juliet put her keys on the key rack in the foyer and walked in and saw Shawn and Natalie on the couch passed out. She walked over to them and she rubbed Shawn's cheek.
"Baby." Juliet whispered.
Shawn stirred, but stayed asleep.
"Shawn…" Juliet whispered.
Shawn turned his head and slowly opened his eyes.
"Jules?" Shawn mumbled.
"Hey babe." Juliet said.
Shawn rubbed his eyes and looked at Juliet.
"What are you doing home?" Shawn asked.
"Lunch." Juliet said.
"I thought you had a very important case."
"I do, but I need to eat."
"Yes you do."
Shawn sat up and let Juliet on the couch.
Juliet sat on the couch and put Shawn's head in her lap.
"Why didn't you stay?" Juliet asked.
"Karen was frustrated." Shawn said.
"That hasn't stopped you before."
"I know, but the blinds were shut and I could feel the tension in her office."
Juliet rubbed Shawn's chest, "Well thank you for the flowers."
"You're welcome, sweetheart." Shawn said.
Natalie started to stir and Juliet picked her up.
"Hello my baby." Juliet whispered.
Juliet held Natalie and held Shawn's hand.
"What are you doing for the rest of the day?" Juliet asked.
"This." Shawn said.
"Hey, don't be sad."
"Why?"
"Because, I planned the perfect evening for us tonight. Mom and dad get the night out."
"I love you, Juliet."
"I love you too, Shawn."
Shawn leaned in to kiss Juliet and Natalie stretched and her hand went in Shawn's face.
Shawn pulled back and looked at Natalie.
"Uh, little girl, why must you block my kisses?" Shawn asked.
Juliet put Natalie on her other shoulder and leaned in to kiss Shawn.
"You look good." Shawn whispered.
"I'm in my pantsuit." Juliet said.
"I'm picturing what's under the suit."
"You're bad, Shawn Spencer."
"I'm telling the truth, baby."
"Oh I know you are."
"So, how are we celebrating tonight?"
"So that's where this was going."
Shawn smiled.
"The baby will be down by the time we get home, so we can eat a little ice cream and cuddle."
Shawn pulled Juliet closer, "Call in sick for the rest of the day."
"I can't. Karen is watching the baby tonight. If I call in sick she won't watch the baby." Juliet said.
"I'm sure my parents can watch her."
"Shawn, this is a big case. It's high profile."
"High profile? We live in Santa Barbara."
"We do, but we also have a ton millionaires out here."
"So, who is it?"
"If we need you, I'll call you."
"I can't even get a name?"
"Fine, but you can't tell Gus or anybody."
"I promise."
"His name is Gary Turner."
"You mean the commercial real estate mogul?"
"That's the one."
"What did he do?"
"He didn't do anything. His daughter is missing."
"Oh shit."
Juliet nodded.
"You got it?" Shawn asked.
"For now. If it changes, I will call you and Gus." Juliet said.
Shawn kissed Juliet on the head.
"Alright, I got to get going." Juliet said.
"You didn't eat anything." Shawn said.
"If I eat now, I won't be hungry later."
"Ok. I love you."
"I love you too."
Juliet got off the couch and headed toward the door.
"Juliet…" Shawn said.
Juliet turned around, "Yeah?"
"Give me Natalie."
"Oh…"
Juliet walked toward Shawn and handed Natalie to him.
"Go to daddy." Juliet whispered.
Natalie started to fuss when she got in Shawn's arms.
"Nat, don't do that right now." Juliet said.
Shawn started bouncing her, "I got her. I love you."
"I love you too."
Shawn gave Juliet a kiss and then shut the door behind her.
"Are you hungry?" Shawn asked.
Shawn went to the fridge and grabbed Natalie a bottle and warmed it up.
SBPD
Juliet walked back into the station and went straight to her desk to work on her paperwork.
Karen walked out of her office and over to Juliet's desk.
"How's Shawn?" Karen asked.
Juliet looked up, "He's good. He was sleeping when I got there."
"Does Psych have any cases?"
"Not at the moment. Gus has been at the office working on his other job."
"He still works there?"
"That's what I said."
Karen laughed, "Well, they may need to lend us their assistance."
"Just tell me when and I will call my love."
"Your what?"
"Shawn, my bad."
Karen laughed, "Finish this stack of work and then go home."
"You sure?"
"Yep."
"Oh and Juliet, if you two want to stay out later, I am fine with her coming to my house for the night."
"To be honest, we may take you up on that offer in a month or so. We're working on letting her sleep in her crib."
"How old is she?"
"She'll be 6 months at the end of the month."
"That's half a year."
"I know, Karen."
"Has she started baby food yet?"
"We are actually trying that this weekend, when we are both off."
Karen nodded, "Well hurry up and get this done, I know you want to get back home."
"How long should this take me?"
"A few hours, so you'll be out around 4."
"Oh fun."
"Sorry."
"Don't be. I was just messing with you."
Karen laughed and went back to her office.
Juliet flipped open the file and began reading and annotating the files.
At the House
It was 3:45 that afternoon and Shawn and Natalie were watching their afternoon cartoons when Shawn's phone rang.
"Hello?" Shawn asked.
"Hey. What are you doing?" Gus asked.
"Watching cartoons with my girl. Why?"
"Can I come over for a bit?"
"Yeah. Is everything ok?"
"Yeah, I just haven't seen you in a while."
"Natalie would love to see her Uncle Gus."
"I'll be there in a little bit."
"See you Gus."
Shawn hung up the phone, "Natalie, Uncle Gus is on his way over."
Shawn put Natalie on her feet on his legs and let her bounce up and down.
5 minutes later, Juliet walked in the house.
Juliet rounded the corner and saw Natalie bouncing on Shawn's legs.
"Go baby girl." Juliet said.
Shawn looked over to the foyer, "Hey, you. What are you doing home?"
"I finished my paperwork early."
"Well you are just in time, Gus is on his way over."
"Good."
Juliet walked over to Shawn and kissed him.
"I missed you." Shawn whispered.
"I missed you too." Juliet whispered.
There was a knock on the door.
After a few moments, Gus walked through the door.
"So is nobody going to let me in?" Gus asked.
"You don't need to knock. You know this." Shawn said.
"You right. Hey Juliet."
"Hello Gus. How are you?"
"Good. How are you?"
"Good, we are going out later tonight."
"Where to?"
"Somewhere…"
"She's being very secretive, Gus." Shawn inserted.
"Because it's a surprise Shawn. Surprises are supposed to be kept a secret." Gus said.
"Not between husband and wife…"
"So me the rule book."
"There isn't one…"
"Then you just proved my point."
Juliet watched the two men bicker back and forth and laughed.
"What's funny, Jules?" Shawn asked.
"You two. You two are acting like you're well…2." Juliet said.
"You're lucky I love you. That comment almost didn't slide…"
"Oh I am so blessed to have you as the best husband in the world."
"That's what I thought."
Gus rolled his eyes.
"What time are you guys leaving?" Gus asked.
"It's 4:15 now, so in about 2 hours." Juliet said.
"Can I get a quick nap in?" Shawn asked.
"You have been sleeping with Nat all day." Juliet said.
"She's very low maintenance today."
Shawn turned the movie back on and sat with Juliet on the couch while Gus made himself at home.
5:30 rolled around and Juliet got off the couch.
"Where are you going?" Shawn asked.
"Shower." Juliet answered.
"What time is it?"
"5:30."
"Ok."
Gus got up and turned to Shawn, "Thanks for the visit man. I'll see you this weekend?"
"We have laser tag this weekend, I wouldn't miss it for the world." Shawn said.
"See you this weekend."
"Bye Gus."
Gus walked out of Shawn and Juliet's house and ran into Karen.
"Oh I'm sorry." Karen said.
Karen looked up and saw Gus.
"Mr. Guster, how are you?" Karen asked.
"Good. Ready to chase freaks again." Gus said.
"Well I'm sure you and Shawn will be in soon."
"Sounds good, Chief."
Gus finished the conversation and walked back to his car.
Karen knocked on the door and was greeted by Natalie and Shawn.
"Well hell you two." Karen said.
"Hello. How are you?" Shawn asked.
"Good. Excited to stay with this little one tonight."
"Well she's excited too. She sleeps when she's excited."
"Ahh, I see."
Juliet came down the hallway and saw Karen and Shawn talking in the foyer.
"Shawn, are you not going to invite her in?" Juliet asked.
"I'm sorry, Karen, would you like to come in and sit down?" Shawn asked.
"Thank you, Mr. Spencer." Karen said.
Juliet walked over to Shawn, "Go shower. 20 minutes until we have to leave."
Shawn gave Natalie to Juliet and ran to the back to take a shower.
Juliet walked through the living room and sat down on the couch next to Karen.
"She's getting big, Juliet." Karen said.
"Don't remind me. Like I go to sleep and wake up and I swear she grows at night." Juliet said.
"Look at her blonde hair coming in."
"I know. She looks exactly like me when I was a baby."
"I can see that. But she acts just like her daddy."
"More than ever. I guess since he's here almost everyday with her, she picks up his mannerisms."
Shawn got in and out of the shower in 10 minutes. He dried off and went to his closet and grabbed a nice outfit to wear to dinner. He got dressed and went to fix his hair and put on cologne.
Juliet heard shoes walking down the hall and got up and met Shawn halfway.
"Well damn, Spencer. You clean up nice." Juliet said.
Shawn smiled and pulled Juliet closer to him, "Stop it, you're gonna make me blush."
Juliet backed up and looked Shawn once over again.
"Natalie, look at daddy." Juliet whispered.
Shawn took Natalie from Juliet and walked around the room with her.
"You're going to be a good girl for Aunt Karen tonight, right? I don't want to come home and hear that you went insane and tore up the house…I want to hear that when you're in high school, not now." Shawn said.
Karen looked at Juliet and shook her head.
"Ok little one, mommy and daddy love you. We will be back later tonight." Shawn said.
Juliet walked over to Shawn and kissed Natalie on her head, "You be a good girl for Aunt Karen. I love you, precious."
Shawn kissed Natalie on her cheek and then handed her to Karen.
"You two have a fantastic evening. I will send pictures. You only get 2 calls tonight, no more." Karen said.
"She's limiting our calls now." Shawn whispered.
"Well…" Juliet said.
"Well what?"
"I like to call every hour or so."
Shawn chuckled.
Juliet grabbed her purse and Shawn grabbed his things.
"Karen, call if anything happens." Shawn said.
"You do know I have a daughter too, right?" Karen asked.
"Yeah, but this one is a baby."
"I know she's a baby you idiot. I know how to watch children."
"I'll give you that."
"Oh how sweet of you."
Juliet laughed.
"Go, have a great night." Karen said.
Juliet kissed Natalie one more time and headed out the door with Shawn.
They got in the car and Juliet put the destination in the GPS.
"Wow, GPS?" Shawn asked.
"We've never been here before…" Juliet said.
"Is it new?"
"Very."
"Ooooh I'm excited."
"I'm glad."
Shawn reached across the console and grabbed Juliet's hand.
"You are my favorite wife." Shawn said.
"You're my favorite husband." Juliet said.
Shawn pulled into the parking lot of the new restaurant and parked.
They got out of the car and went inside.
Shawn stepped one foot inside and looked around.
"Jules, this is really nice." Shawn whispered.
"You think?" Juliet whispered.
"Yeah."
"I'm glad."
"Hi, welcome to The Palms. How many?" the hostess asked.
"2, for Spencer." Juliet said.
The hostess checked the reservation chart and grabbed their menus.
"Alright, if you two could follow me please." the hostess asked.
Shawn grabbed Juliet's hand and they followed the hostess to the back end of the restaurant in a little corner.
"Your waiter will be right with you." the hostess explained.
"Thank you so much." Juliet said.
The hostess smiled and walked back up to the front.
Shawn picked up his menu and saw a steak dinner for 2.
"Want to do the steak dinner for 2?" Shawn asked.
"Yeah, sounds good." Juliet said.
The waiter came around and took their drink order and food order.
20 minutes later, their food came and they started to eat.
"Happy Valentine's Day, Juliet." Shawn said.
Juliet reached across the table and grabbed Shawn's hand, "Happy Valentine's Day, Shawn."
"I love doing this whole life thing with you."
"I love our life. Us 3. Our family."
"We do have a cool family."
The waiter came and cleared the table and handed Juliet the check.
Juliet reached in her purse and got out her wallet.
"Juliet Spencer, you put that wallet down now." Shawn said.
"Shut up." Juliet said.
Juliet put the credit card in the folder and handed it back to the waiter.
"Where to next, gorgeous?" Shawn asked.
"It's a cool night, boardwalk stroll?" Juliet suggested.
"I love it."
The waiter came back and handed Juliet her card back.
Juliet signed the check and left a tip and got up.
Shawn got up and grabbed Juliet's hand and they walked out the door.
"Hang on, I need to grab something out of the car." Shawn said.
Juliet started to walk with him.
"Jules, stay!" Shawn said.
"I'm not a dog…" Juliet fussed.
Shawn ran to the car and grabbed Juliet's present and ran back to Juliet.
"What's that?" Juliet asked.
"What's what?" Shawn asked.
"What's in the bag?"
"I'll give it to you in a minute."
Juliet grabbed Shawn's hand and they began their boardwalk stroll.
Juliet was getting more impatient by the second. She turned around and stepped in front of Shawn and put her hand on his chest.
"What are you doing?" Shawn asked.
"What's in the bag, Spencer?" Juliet asked.
Shawn rolled his eyes and smiled and kept walking.
Juliet ran and caught up to him, "You must want to sleep on the couch tonight."
Shawn kept walking and got to the end of the boardwalk and leaned against the railing.
Juliet walked up next to him, "You know, I've lived here almost 10 years and this sight never gets old."
Shawn looked at Juliet, "I agree."
Juliet looked at Shawn, "You're not even looking…"
"You're much prettier than the ocean, Juliet."
Shawn sighed and pressed his lips against Juliet's temple.
"I love you." Juliet said.
Shawn pulled away and hugged Juliet, "I love you too."
Shawn turned Juliet to face him.
"Jules, would you like your present now?" Shawn asked.
Juliet nodded.
Shawn gave Juliet the black bag with blue tissue paper.
Juliet took the tissue paper out and found a black velvet box. She took the box out and opened it and saw a necklace with Natalie's birthstone on it.
"Shawn." Juliet whispered.
Shawn sat there and smiled as Juliet looked at it.
Juliet looked up at Shawn with tears in her eyes.
"What's wrong? Do you not like it?" Shawn panicked.
Juliet smiled and shook her head, "Shawn, I love it. Thank you so much baby."
"Want to put it on?"
"Can you please?"
"Of course."
Shawn took the necklace out of the box and put it on Juliet.
"You look absolutely amazing." Shawn said.
Juliet wrapped her arms around Shawn's neck, "Thank you. I love you."
"I love you too. I know it's like super early, but I kinda want to get home."
"Can you wait 30 more minutes? Please?"
"Yeah."
Juliet turned around to her purse and grabbed a wrapped box out of her purse and handed it to Shawn.
"Open it." Juliet said.
Shawn unwrapped the box and opened it to find a necklace and pendant with Natalie's thumb print on it.
"Jules, you got her thumb print on a necklace for me?" Shawn asked.
"Yeah. I know you see her all day everyday, but once we get back to chasing psychos, I want her to be with you." Juliet said.
Shawn pulled Juliet in for a passionate kiss.
"You Juliet Lynn O'Hara Spencer, are the best person in this world. I can't believe you agreed to marry me. I am one lucky ass guy." Shawn said.
"I love you Shawn Henry Spencer, I wouldn't want to marry anyone else or have anyone else's children. You are a constant light in our life and I am eternally grateful." Juliet said.
Shawn smiled, "Can you put the necklace on me?"
"You're gonna have to bend down a bit."
Shawn bent down a little bit and Juliet put the necklace on him.
"Now, let's go home." Shawn said.
"Let's go." Juliet said.
Shawn took Juliet's hand and they walked back to the car.
Shawn drove them back to the house and they snuck in.
Juliet made her way through the foyer and saw Natalie wide awake.
"What are you doing up?" Juliet asked.
Karen looked down at Natalie, "When did you wake up?"
Juliet laughed.
"How was she?" Juliet asked.
"Perfect. You got a good one on your hands." Karen said.
"Yeah, I want another one."
"I'm sorry, what?" Shawn asked.
Juliet turned around and smiled.
"You really want another baby?" Shawn asked.
"Yep." Juliet said.
"How long have you thought about this?"
"A few weeks."
"Jules, are you absolutely sure you want another baby?"
"Do you want another baby?"
"This isn't about me. I'm asking you, are you sure you want another baby right now? You just got back into the swing of things at work and things are going very well."
Juliet walked over to Shawn and grabbed his hands, "Shawn, I know we just got back in our routine, I'm not talking right this second, I'm talking about maybe, just maybe in the next few months or so we can discuss about having another one."
Shawn nodded, "Yeah. That sounds good. Oh and for the record, I only want one more."
"What if we have twins?"
"Not happening."
Juliet laughed, "You can't control that."
"Craigslist is always an option."
Juliet slapped Shawn's chest, "Promise me, in a few months, we will circle back around this?"
"I promise."
"Good."
Juliet kissed Shawn and went and got Natalie.
Karen looked at Juliet's necklace.
"Where'd you get that necklace?" Karen asked.
"Shawn. It has Nat's birthstone in it." Juliet said.
"Very nice."
"Shawn bring your body over here." Juliet said.
Shawn walked further into the living room and sat down.
"Yes?" Shawn asked.
"Show Karen your necklace." Juliet said.
Shawn pulled the necklace out of his shirt.
"You got her thumb print on there?" Karen asked.
"Yeah." Juliet said.
"You both did very well."
"Thank you."
"Well, I better get going. I will see you two on Monday." Karen said.
"Yes ma'am." Shawn said.
"Oh and Shawn, welcome back to work."
"Gee, thanks."
Karen laughed and grabbed her stuff and left.
Shawn locked up the house and went to the bedroom and saw Juliet rocking Natalie back to sleep.
Juliet heard Shawn shut the door and looked up, "Hey."
"Hey, is she out?" Shawn whispered.
"Not quite. I say 5 more minutes."
Shawn took his shirt off and took Natalie away from Juliet.
"Why'd you do that?" Juliet asked.
"Watch." Shawn said.
Shawn put Natalie on his chest and rocked back in forth.
Juliet saw Natalie's eyes close and she was out.
"How'd you do that?" Juliet asked.
"I learned that she falls asleep better like that a week ago." Shawn said.
"Wow. Good job."
Shawn smiled. He put Natalie in her crib in their room and then got undressed and ready for bed.
Juliet walked into the bathroom and began taking off her makeup.
Shawn walked in the bathroom with nothing but his boxers on and went and brushed his teeth and washed his face.
The couple made it to the bed and got under the covers and curled up.
"Thank you for this evening." Shawn said.
"You are more than welcome. I love having date nights." Juliet said.
"Tonight was a special one too."
"It's just Valentine's Day."
"I know that, but Valentine's Day with you…makes it all better."
"I love you, you idiot."
"I love you too."
"Good night."
"Night, my love."
Shawn kissed Juliet and rolled over and went to sleep.
