Hey guys, Flipkicks here, and today I bring you is a new chapter for "A Reaper Amongst Dragons", thank you for checking out the story and what you all thought of the previous chapter.
While I'm still drawing out the story, there will be two main groups, Ichigo's Group and the Church. The classes will be divided into those two groups.
Ichigo's Team: Orihime, Rukia, Yoruichi, Claude
Rhea's Team: Seleth, Flayn, Byleth, Dimitri, Yuri
There will be others joining Ichigo and Rhea's team. Also, there is a Poll on my page about Ichigo having a small harem of the 3H female characters, and also since Ichigo has an unusual ability to influence unlocking his friend's abilities, I figure I also use that to influence different characters from the FE series and into the story. Also, there will be other couples in this story. Who will be with who?
I do not own either series.
The Unknown World
Part 1
Unknown Forest
Sometime after the girls woke up, they all try to figure out what happened and how did they find themselves in some unknown forest. None of these landmarks seem familiar to any of them and this isn't the Soul Society where they can feel the Reiatsu but to them, they don't feel any of that. They do feel something but it's not the same as their world.
"You guys alright?" He asks them since he knows that each of them had dealt with a dangerous foe in the Quincy's.
"I'm fine," Orihime answers first, whipping off the dirt from her face, and still feels the effect from the final battle against Yhwach.
"Same," Rukia replies as well, taking it slow since she is still feeling some effect of her Bankai. She didn't think that her Bankai would take this enormous pain. A mere step would have been fatal for her since it will take time for her to even master her Bankai.
"How about you, Yoruichi?" Ichigo asks his friend/mentor.
"Will need some time." Ichigo helps her up, "Can't use much of my powers." After dealing with Askin with Urahara and Grimmjow, it left her severely injured and she couldn't move for a while. "Any idea as to where we are?" She asks them.
"The layout is vastly different from our world." Orihime stated, "The trees don't look like the ones in Aokigahara or the other areas."
"Doesn't look like we're in the Soul Society or any other part," Rukia added as well.
"Can't sense Spiritual Pressure either." Ichigo added, "Or can't find anything."
"Guess we might have to figure this out," Yoruichi stated as she begins to walk slowly out of the forest and the others begin to follow suit with Ichigo being the last one. They would find the forest rather soothing, hearing the birds chipper, small animals moving about, and making noises, sometimes they would stop and just hear nature. Ichigo found this rather peaceful compare to his world as there weren't many trees and it was more modern with large buildings, stop signs, cars, and so on but here, it's rather an interesting change in pace.
This was something that everyone wasn't used to since they again have been more used to their old lifestyle instead of this new lifestyle that would be part of their lives for the current moment.
"So many trees..." Orihime noted as they continue on their way in the forest of this new world.
"No CO2 either," Ichigo added, still taking in the new scenery that they are all looking at.
"Have to admit, this is way more peaceful than the Soul Society or the suburbs in the Human world." Yoruichi could get used to this.
As the four of them continue trying to get out of the forest, Ichigo for some reason is hearing a nice melody. He looks at his friends and could tell that they aren't hearing this song, which makes him raise an eyebrow.
'The hell?' He wonders as to why he's hearing this calming melody. He felt drawn to the song and started going down a different path than his friends. With each step he took, the melody that he was hearing is starting to become louder.
(Lost in Thoughts, All Alone/ Hitori Omou)
He then finds himself by a large lake with a dock made out of wood. He sees a young woman with very long sky blue hair and yellow eyes. She wears a white headdress and a white gown and she also walks barefoot. She also has a clam shell-based necklace with a sky blue gem in the center of it.
Glancing at her, he is in awe. Of course, he has seen beautiful women but what's striking about her is her voice. He isn't used to hearing such a beautiful melody that is very calming and relaxing. Plus, this is the first time that he is also seeing someone's hair that is more out there compared to his own orange hair.
He sees her then going into the lake, singing her melody, and slowly approaches her.
(End of the song)
She stops as she can feel Ichigo's presence.
"Oh Sorry!" He immediately apologizes to her, "Your song was beautiful." He admitted as he slowly approaches her, to which she brought the lance that was by the edge. "I'm not here to harm you." He honestly didn't even know that she was even armed and isn't looking for a fight. "Mind telling me where we are?" He asks her, gesturing her that he isn't armed (well technically he is).
"Who are you?" The songstress asks him as she places her left hand on the lance.
"My name is Ichigo Kurosaki." He introduces himself to her, 'Wait a minute, she can speak Japanese?' The thought immediately came into his head and only his friends were able to understand him but could these people know Japanese? "What's your name?" He asks her.
"Azura. A Songstress." She introduces herself simply. "What are you doing here?"
Figuring that he could use the help to find a way out of this forest, he decided that it was probably in him and his friends to get out of here, "My friends and I found ourselves here without knowing how we came here." He started, "You know how we can out of here?"
Sensing his words are true, she wonders about this mysterious person. She can sense that he isn't like the other people here and could feel that something else world. "I'll help you to the monastery that is close by." She put her lance away and walks towards Ichigo and the next thing she knew, she would see his friends.
"There you are Ichigo," They hear Rukia with an annoyed tone, "Don't wander off in this unknown world!"
"What's this?" Yoruichi takes a glance and sees Ichigo with someone from this world. "My Ichigo, to think that you already making moves." She easily teases him to which earned her a scowl from him.
"Her name is Azura, she's said that she was gonna take use to this monastery." Ichigo introduces the Songstress to his friends and Azura explains to the group where they are.
Fódlan's recorded history begins 41 years before the founding of the Adrestian Empire, with the appearance of Saint Seiros in the Enbarr region. Seiros performed miracles that inspired the people, and the Church of Seiroswas founded to venerate her.
The Adrestian Empire was founded in Imperial Year 1 by Great Emperor Wilhelm I, with Enbarr chosen as its capital due to the presence of Seiros. In Imperial Year 32, Wilhelm I launched the War of Heroes intending to conquer all of Fódlan for the Empire. Nemesis, the King of Liberation, united the Empire's opponents under his leadership. Seiros finally slew Nemesis at the Battle of Tailtean in Imperial Year 91, but the war did not end until 98, when Wilhelm I's successor, Lycaon I, succumbed to illness.
In Imperial Year 751, the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus seceded from the Empire after winning the War of the Eagle and Lion. The Church crowned Faerghus's first king, Loog of House Blaiddyd, and granted his nation autonomy. In 801, the region of Leicester rebelled against the Empire, and the Kingdom took the opportunity to occupy the region. In 861, the death of King Klaus I led his three sons to partition the Kingdom into three parts, with each of them ruling apart as an archduke. The death of the archduke of Leicester in 881 gave the Leicester lords the chance to form an alliance rather than accept his heir, sparking the Crescent Moon War. In 901, the war ended with the founding of the Leicester Alliance under the leadership of the influential Duke of Riegan.
The constant threat of foreign invasion from countries beyond Fódlan eventually forced the three powers to band together under the Church. As of 1180, the Church continues to exert its influence to maintain peace and harmony within the continent.
The Monastery,
Sometime Later
Byleth found herself in the long and pleasantly appointed avenue that contained the student's dormitories. She believed that she had also been assigned a room in this very same block, although she had yet to have been formally presented with her new living quarters. Their first two nights at the Monastery, both she and Jeralt had stayed in the comfortable guest accommodation in the main building and had been housed close enough to each other that she had been able to still hear the familiar and rather comforting sound of his loud snores. That had been before the announcement that they would be staying indefinitely had been thrust upon her.
Her initial expectation was that she would most likely encounter many of the students close to their own rooms - it was where you would have found her if she had the choice - however, Byleth was surprised to find that the large avenue was mainly deserted, despite it only being a short time off of lunchtime - with just a few bodies scurrying to or from their dorm and even they were oddly quiet and singularly intent in their travel.
"Hmm. I don't believe that lessons or training have yet begun for the year." Byleth mused to Colin, who was pawing at the heavy material of the cloak on her shoulder whilst purring so ferociously to himself that the whole of his tiny body was shaking with the effort. 'I wonder where everyone is.' Similar to her behavior in the reception hall some minutes earlier, Byleth placed herself carefully in a central position in this new area, becoming very still in movement but her eyes keenly observant.
The students that appeared during her silent watch all seemed to be simply dropping by their room's on the way to somewhere else. Nobody appeared particularly inclined to linger for any length of time. Perhaps there was entertainment being provided before classes officially began or maybe some kind of a tournament or informal instruction was taking place that she knew nothing about. She could think of no other reason for the absence of people.
After a while of limited engagement, Byleth decided that her time spent here was garnering her no useful information at all and she was preparing to march her way down towards the huge glass building that she could just about spy in the distance when a new figure swept into the avenue with a confident demeanor that she had not yet witnessed in any of the other youngsters.
This man was most definitely not that far from Byleth's own age, although the uniform that he wore was what she was now recognising to be that of a student. He didn't have much of the look of a fighting man for although his poise was near perfect, he was lacking somewhat in the tone that came with regular work with weaponry. His dark hair covered one of his eyes, but the other - even from a distance Byleth was startled by the light golden glint that flashed briefly her way which was followed by a slow and thorough examination of her from her head to her feet and then back up again. This was all achieved without him breaking his stride, or deviating from his destination.
'Okay, interesting..' Was the only thought she could muster as the man knocked sharply on one of the dormitory room doors.
Regardless of her excellent hearing, Byleth was unable to hear the actual conversation that took place between the man and the inhabitant of the room. What she did hear though was a considerable amount of high-pitched protestation. It wasn't a long discourse, the door was never opened and the man turned sharply away after having obviously relaying whatever it was he had arrived to say. Once again his visible eye snapped directly at Byleth and this time he began to walk purposefully and directly towards her.
"You are new. Professor." The man said as he approached, the emphasis on the last word tinged with what may have been derision, but might also have just been a pattern of speech. His eyes had alighted on the kitten on her shoulder but moved away quickly, although his thin, colorless lips twitched just slightly as if holding back from commenting.
Byleth nodded at him, going with the same tactic she'd employed with the lad in the reception hall. She stayed silent.
"A mercenary no less." The delivery from the man was totally flat. Again Byleth simply nodded. "Not untalented with arms, it is being said." This time Byleth didn't even bother with a nod, she just stared right back at his one bright eye with inscrutable patience.
The man chuckled unexpectedly. "Come now Professor, I think you may need to speak a little if you hope to teach anyone anything, don't you think?"
"You haven't yet said anything that required an answer or demanded comment," Byleth noted.
"I see. Let me pose you a question then Professor."
"I would have your name first." She replied.
"Oh! How remiss of me." The man's brow had raised slightly. "Hubert von Vestra, the most loyal vassal of Her Highness Lady Edelgard von Hresvelg." He introduces himself to the Mercenary/ New Professor.
"Black Eagles House then," Byleth noted with a nod. "Ask your question." She added.
"It concerns me that a mercenary will be working so closely with the students, particularly of course, in such intimate proximity to my Lady. It is my duty to ensure Her Highness' safety and security in all matters, naturally." Hubert's eye had darkened rather dramatically and his brow had become wrinkled at the fervor of his words.
Byleth waited stoically for the man's point to be reached. Eventually, when nothing further was forthcoming she sighed heavily.
"While you have failed to actually ask a question.." She said slowly. "I can only assume that you are attempting to gauge whether I am a risk, or even perhaps a plant - intending to harm your Lady. Am I correct?"
"I hardly think you would answer that question honestly if I were to put it to you, now would you? In which case it would be a pointless endeavor to ask it outright." Hubert had unconsciously pulled himself up to high full height. "I believe what I am trying to impart to you, is that I am uneasy with your appointment here and you should be aware that I will take any step, literally.. anything - that I deem necessary to protect my Lady."
Byleth relaxed noticeably. She hadn't even realized that she had tensed in the first place.
"Not bad." She murmured thoughtfully. "I mean your threat was a bit wordy for someone as rough as my kind - but there was a good amount of menace there and your delivery was quite intimidating."
Hubert's quick intake of breath amused her. 'I beg your pardon..?" He said faintly.
"I get it, Hubert." Byleth's lips curled in the briefest of smiles. 'You have a duty to look out for your Lady and you are addressing it admirably. I respect that.' She paused thoughtfully. "Maybe it could be arranged that I make some attempts to get close to Her Highness to test how well you actually deal with the situation. It would be an excellent learning opportunity - for both of us."
"Are you saying that you want me to try and kill you?" Hubert was completely bewildered which ironically was a rather cute look on his austere face.
"You won't even get close to doing me harm, but it would be an interesting exercise would it not?" Byleth was enthused, for the first time she saw that there might be some fun in her new position after all.
"Regardless.." The man had managed to pull himself back together and was scowling magnificently. "I am now certain that you warrant having a close eye kept on you. I must ask that you keep your distance from Her Highness."
"That might be a problem if I'm to be your teacher." Byleth was enjoying herself now. She seriously doubted that there were many times that this man had been completely thrown off his balance.
"Yes.. right."
"Don't worry." Byleth crossed her arms across her chest with a smirk. "I only ever kill people that I am ordered to. Right now I'm just being paid to teach so I swear that your Lady is perfectly safe. Of course,' She couldn't help herself adding in pure devilment. 'I would say that if I was meaning her harm too.."
Hubert let out a short, tense laugh. "Professor, I believe you are toying with me now." He wasn't smiling but his eye gleamed brightly. "Obviously, anything that is out of the ordinary must be considered a threat and should be treated carefully, however, while you most definitely fit the category of 'out of the ordinary', I'll admit that you have given me more to think about than I initially expected."
"Well said, Hubert!" Byleth's praise was genuine. "Never let your guard down - to do so would be a disservice to your charge. Yes.." Byleth shook her head slightly at her own behavior. ".. I'm afraid I have been playing with you a little, it's a bad habit I guess. You did pretty well dealing with it though. I don't think you are all that accustomed to encountering someone who isn't immediately intimidated by your countenance. It will happen occasionally - so getting in some practice in handling it is appropriate."
Hubert just stared at her blankly. Then he sighed. "Not only have you managed to confuse me somewhat, but you have also managed to make me late for the very meeting I came here to chastise Bernadetta for being tardy in attending." He looked chagrined. "I must get back." He peered over towards the door to the room that he had knocked at. 'The damned girl still hasn't emerged.' He grumbled.
"I'll grab her." Byleth offered. "Take it as an apology for my teasing you."
"Thank you, Professor. I would be grateful." Hubert's eye gleamed once again as he appraised her thoughtfully, then he turned without another word and strode quickly away.
"People here are far more interesting than I'd initially imagined," Byleth murmured to herself, as she walked over to the door that Hubert had attended earlier and tapped on it lightly.
With Ichigo
Night
A couple of hours later, Ichigo and his friends had to set up camp since it was getting late for them and it would be another day in half for them to reach the monastery, Garreg Mach Monastery. Located in the center of Fódlan amidst the mountains, Garreg Mach Monastery is the headquarters of two separate entities: The Church of Seiros and the Officers Academy. It's a neutral territory, not governed by any of the three nations of Fódlan.
The group sat by the campfire, taking in the peace and quiet for a change. This is the first time that both Ichigo and Orihime got the chance to hear the birds chirping and the animals making moves, making sounds. It felt nice for a change in sense.
"At least Yoruichi did a nice job in hunting." Rukia turns the meat around the fire,
"Better than having Ichigo or Orihime do the hunting." Yoruichi countered, "But besides that," She turns her attention to Azura, "We're grateful for having you guide use Azura." She says, grateful for the Songstress's help.
"It's not a problem." She started, "Seems that it was fate for us to meet." Azura felt that meeting Ichigo first and the others felt like the hands of fate had arranged the meeting between herself and the Soul Reapers. "While we may be all complete strangers to one another, I feel that I may be of great assistance to you."
'...' Ichigo begins to wonder as to what fate is really trying to do with him meeting her and as to why his friends and myself. He wonders as to what else does fate have in store for him being in this world.
