Chapter 5
Life in Recovery
Losing an eye was something I could handle, but not being able to walk, that was a nuisance, especially when I just got back in action. So now I've been on medical leave for the past 3 days and would remain that way until I could walk normally again. So over the past 3 day's I'd been training myself to walk again by walking in between two silver parallel bars in the hospital gym. I had just done about 5 reps of walking back and forth on the bars, and it was hard. My legs felt like they were 2 tons, and I could feel sweet poring down my faces like I was in a shower. I eventually reached the side where my wheelchair was. And Amy was right behind it.
"Come on Alpha." She said insistently. "That's enough back to the chair."
"No…" I painted. "One more rep….. I.. promise."
"Look Alpha." She said, putting her hands on her waist. "The normal rep count is 2 per session, I let you do twice as much, which is more then I should have. Now you either come back to the chair, or I'll drag you to it. And don't think that I won't." I finally gave in. I then turned around as she pushed to chair towards my leg. I then gradually lowered myself into the wheelchair.
"Look General." She sighed. "Pushing yourself harder while in this condition isn't going to heal you any faster. It's just going to do more harm then good." She walked over towards a stack of towels and grabbed one from the top.
"I'm sick and tired of being like this. I just managed to be allowed back in the field, and now I can barely, walk 5 feet."
"It's not a sin to go through a recovery system." She offered the towel. I started to rub my head with it. "You could consider yourself lucky that you even have a chance of being able to walk again. Most don't get that chance."
"Which is exactly why I should be out there fighting." I then handed the towel back to Amy.
"These things take time; healing can't be rushed." She then tossed the towel into the nearest bin, and then stood in front of me. "Nobody is immune to major injuries. Triforce or no Triforce." Then then walked behind me and started to push me out of the room.
"How about this time, I shower myself this time." I turned towards her.
"No chance." She spoke.
"I do have my powers you know; you don't have to help me." We then approached a three-way junction. The left went to the women's locker room, the right; men's: and the middle was handicap.
"Don't worry, I'm not going to be the one to help, but the answer is still no." She said as we went through this middle one. It went into a hallway. The left side went into a small room with dark red lockers, the right side was a hallway with none transparent glass doors that went into a combine bathroom and shower room.
"Fine. But can this person be a male, please." Most of the time Amy just helps me by getting my clothes off and on, getting me in and out of the shower which has a built-in seat. Nothing bad, but it's still a little awkward.
"No such luck Alpha." I heard a muffled female voice say. I recognized the voice, but I didn't want to believe it. Then the nearest door on the left opened, and I then see Beta come out of the room, wearing a black and blue swimming leotard.
"Oh no." I objected. "You are not telling that she's going to be the one to help me."
"I am." Amy said. "And don't even bother trying to get out of it."
"Being stubborn as usual I see Amy." Beta said.
"Almost all soldiers are stubborn as mules, but he's twice as stubborn at times." I plopped my face into my palms
"Well, I can take it from here."
"Okay, be sure to bring him back to his room when you're done." Amy said and started to walk out of the locker room." Beta then opened the door for me.
"Come on honey." She said. I then wheeled myself into the white room.
"Beta, please don't tell me you're wearing that leotard so that…." I was so embarrassed and red that I couldn't finish
"That's right." She then pushed my wheel chair towards the shower, then applied the brake. After that, she peaked through the white shower curtain and turned on the water. I moaned a little bit, then levitated myself off of the wheelchair and took of my clothes. By the time I was finished, she pulled out of the shower.
"Oh." She said, and gave me a sly look. "Well, well. I never knew you looked so handsome in your..."
"DON'T YOU DARE FINISH THAT SENTINCE!" I exclaimed. "We are on the border of being rated M as it is!" She then broke out into laughter. Embarrassed, I then hovered my way into the shower and placed myself on the lowered seat. I then felt the warm water hit my head and trickle down my fur. Beta soon stopped laughing and entered the shower and closed the curtain.
"Sorry." She said calmly. "That was a bit too far."
"It's okay." I said solemnly. She just stood there for about a minute.
"You're feeling like you failed again. Is that is?" I then slammed the wall in frustration.
"I was created to save this world from all evil! HOW CAN I DO THAT WHEN I CAN'T EVEN SHOWER MYSELF!" I then started to tear up. "I should be out there fighting with my men, not in recovery." I saw Beta knell down next to me.
"I know it's hard for you," She said. "not being able to fight. But this happens to everybody else sometimes."
"BUT I'M NOT MEANT TO BE LIKE EVERYONE ELSE." I cried, and showed her the Triforce symbol on my right hand. "YOU SEE THIS? I WAS CREATED BY THIS POWER TO KEEP BALANCE TO THIS WORLD!" I slumped against the wall, and felt the water hit my chest.
"But, you're only mobian." Beta said. I then turned my head towards her. "When will you learn that you can't save every person on Mobius?"
"It's hard to except that, when your power was given to you by a goddess." I grumbled.
"What!" Beta exclaimed. I then realized what I said out loud. So, I decided told her the story about how I got my power from Din.
"I never thought about that, but it makes so much sense." She said.
"I didn't want to tell anyone." I replayed.
"Well goddess, or no goddess, what I said still applies. Now let's get you washed up before you look like an old man." She chuckled.
"Yeah lets." I replied. So, after the shower was finished Beta then brought me back to my hospital room. I then levitated myself back onto the bed, the artificial sunlight beaming through the artificial window.
"Get some rest honey." She said.
"It's almost noon you know." I replied.
"Don't care." She then gave me a little kiss on the forehead. "Love you."
"Love you too, my little pup."
"My Alpha male." She then left the room. "Ahhh, that's my girl." I then closed my eye.
