Chapter 6

True Enemy

Even though I was out of action again, it was probably the best thing that could have happened to me. Whenever I'm not trying to get my strength back or sleeping, I pass time by meditating with my power. So not only after two weeks was able to walk normally again, I had grown in wisdom, and learned the hardest lesson I might ever learn. No matter how powerful you are, you can't save everybody, but that doesn't mean you failed. So with this mindset, I proudly marched into the council chamber for the first time in two weeks at 7:00PM. They all stood up and saluted me, and offered me the seat at the end of the table. Espio, Silver, Vector, Sonic, and Tails sat on the left side, while Fang, Charmy, Amy, Shadow, Vector, and Rouge sat on the right side.

"Welcome back General." Espio said.

"Thank you." I replied. "It's good to be back."

"I only wish it was under better circumstances." He spoke solemnly as he sat down. I looked at him confused.

"I'm afraid an urgent situation has arisen sir." Silver leaned forward.

"Explain." I said in a nervous tone.

"While no major attack has been made by the Eggman Empire." Fang said. "Unfortunately, about 8 of our bases have been reported to have found numerous bodies dead throughout the base throughout the past 2 weeks"

"Nicole," Tails said. And a brown cat wearing a purple dress appeared on screen.

"That's new." I thought to myself.

"Pull up the photo's taken on the crimes scenes." He finished

"Of course, Councilman Tails." She replied in a calm voice. I then noticed Amy covering Charmy's eyes. I then saw why. I'll spare you the gory details, but they were not pretty.

"This next one was taken just this morning at Green Hill Base." Espio said. And the next picture was the most horrifying of them all, not because of the pile of bodies, but the writing on the wall in blood.

All of Mobius shall BURN by the hand of Infinite, and your savior can't help you now!

My heart skipped a beat, to think that Infinite would do such a thing.

"We've taken many precautions to make sure that our refugees inside all of our bases are safe." Vector said. "But we fear this may be a prelude to a larger attack."

"I must agree." Shadow said. "I recommend we move forward and return to the offensive."

"No." I said. The entire High Council then looked at me like I had lobsters crawling out of my ears. "He may be trying to scare us into making the wrong move. We need to stay calm and find out more about what there really planning."

"With all due respect General." Sonic spoke. "How do we plan to due that? Just walk up to him and ask, 'hey, why are you killing people all of the sudden?'" I then had an idea.

"No," I said. "I will." I then stood up. "If you'll excuse me members of the High Council. I must return to my office." I then turned around and left the chamber. As I walked through the hallways of the base, I remember how I was able to maneuver outside as a projection of my power back when I helped resurrect Sonic in my home world. I soon reached the entrance to my office, where my secretary, Ms. Ocelot worked at her desk.

"No interruptions Ms. Ocelot." I said as I entered my office.

"Yes, General." She said. I then closed the door, locked it, and sat down on the floor. I then used my power and formed what I call a meditation sphere, a technique which I invented while I was in recovery. At first, it's a disk with the Triforce symbol in the middle with numerous layers rings with intricate patterns on them. I then have the rings start spinning in different directions around each other. They give of a low hum, and the spinning rings help calm me. I then closed my eyes, and within a minute or two, I felt myself lift up into the air. I opened my eyes and saw that I was outside my body. I then lifted myself up through many levels like I was in an elevator until I was on the surface. The moonlight shining in sky provided the only light in the area. I then made my way towards Scrap Brain Zone. The scenery wizzed by me like I was on a supersonic airplane. With in a few minutes, I saw the large back Eggman shaped base appear on the horizon, I flew towards it with all due hast. I then stopped and entered my hyper-focus state. I then sensed a strong power inside the center; I knew it was Infinite. I then zoomed inside, and entered a very small room, which had only a bed, and little table with a lamp on it. I then saw Infinite sitting on the bed, wearing his silver mask. I saw the Phantom Ruby on his chest give a slight glow. Suddenly the metal door opened with a loud clang. I was about to hide, when I remembered that I was invisible. I then noticed Dr. Eggman enter the room, very upset.

"You have some serious explaining to do Infinite!" He exclaimed.

"What about?" Infinite replied in his distorted voice.

"You know EXACTLY what I'm talking about. The attacks you made on the Resistance."

"I thought this war was about destroying the Resistance."

"NOT BY SNEAKING INTO BASES AND KILLING PEOPLE, AND WRITING MURDER STATEMENTS ON WALLS!"

"I fail to see what the problem is Doctor."

"The problem is, I told you to not to make any moves against the Resistance yet. Not until we have enough robots to carry out our plan!" Infinite then got off the bed and rose up to his level. I did the same.

"In my opinion Doctor, you should have crushed the Resistance while you have the chance. Alpha has disappeared from the battlefield until now. You should have used this time to wipe them out."

"YOUR OPINION DOESN'T MATTER INFINITE!" He pointed his finger at him. The two paused for a moment. "Take off you mask and look me in the eye." Infinite then placed his hands against the mask and slowly lifted it of. My eyes widened when I saw his face. He had a pale face, red eyes, white body patterns, and even had an eyepatch over his left eye. Just like me.

"You think that you're some GOD with that mask, but face it! You NOTHING without that crystal on your chest." Infinite lowered his head, and lowered himself down to the ground. I then noticed a tear fall from his check. "Now, if you pull a stunt like that again, I'll take away that crystal and put on someone more suitable!" He then stormed out of the room. Infinite gave a loud grunt and punched the wall so hard it dented.

"That old fool." I heard him say, in a low voice without the distortion from his mask. "While he plays Machiavelli, the Resistance still lives."

"I know how you feel." I said out loud. Infinite then jumped and shot a laser in my direction, which wissed right through me. I them made myself visible to him.

"Long time no see Infinite." I said. He then picked up his sword which was propped against the bed.

"Don't bother, you'll just be slicing through air." He then paused and but the sword away.

"I take it you're here about the people I killed?" He asked.

"I am, but I also want to talk." Infinite chuckled.

"Why do you care?"

"Because I saw you argument with Eggman." He paused. "You and I are more a like then you think." He remained silent.

"Tell me the truth. Do you think Eggman cares about you as a person?" I asked.

"He doesn't care about anybody." He scoffed.

"Then why do you think Eggman's even keeping you around?"

"What does it matter to you?"

"Because I see what he's doing to you."

"You only see half of who I am."

"Maybe, but I see twice the truth as you." He paused. "Don't you see Infinite, Eggman's just using you, and when he wins, he just cast you aside like trash."

"Why do you care, Alpha."

"Because deep down you know that something is wrong."

"You don't know me."

"I AM YOU!" He took a couple steps back. I took a deep breath. "You need to look inside yourself, and ask yourself the big questions: 'Who are you?' and 'What do you want?'" He turned around, picked up his mask and looked at me.

"I am Infinite the Jackal." He then put on his mask. "And once I win this war, it shall be Eggman that shall be casted aside!"

"Infinite!" I shouted

"And there shall be a great cry in all of Mobius! One that has never, and shall never be heard AGAIN!" He then thrusted his sword into my chest, which didn't hurt me at all. "THAT IS WHAT I WANT, ALPHA THE WOLF!" I then lowered my head in disappointment.

"Then you'll have to learn the hard way." I then broke out of my meditation and found myself back in my office.
