Hello, I'm surprised the story has actually got some reviews and follows. Trust me, I've read all the reviews and I will gratefully take constructive criticism, the point of this story is to hone my writing skills after all (I will try to use pronouns more often, thanks).
Our protagonist is going to be named Todoroki Emilia. I don't know much about Japanese culture or even common names for that matter, so I just got two of my favorite characters in anime and slapped them together (can you guess what they are?).
Also, if you see any flaws, please let me know. I'm a 10th grade math and science kid, but I suck at language, so I'm trying to get over my bad grammar habits by writing a story about one of my favorite animes.
Let's get started I guess.
Emilia is 9 years old, attending a primary school in Academy city, district 13.
Emilia is a black haired girl who usually has a long ponytail, with blue eyes. She was pretty smart for her age, and has a certain set of friends she talks and plays games with. Despite being the youngest, she played the big sister role, constantly helping others with homework.
Here she is, walking to school.
"G-Good morning Emilia!"
"Good morning Akari"
Akari was a shy girl, and ironically the eldest of Emilia's group of friends. She has long, straight black hair with black eyes.
The two girls entered the school together, towards their homeroom class.
During free time, Emilia was writing in her notebook
"Hey Em, why are you writing with your left hand?"
Emilia looked at her pencil and switched hands. It happened again. Despite the fact that she is right handed, she always seemed to use her left on reflex. But the strangest thing is that her handwriting looks just as good as her right hand.
"No way, could it be that you can use both hands?" Azusa said in surprise, looking over at the neat writing on Emilia's notebook.
Azusa is the closest of Emilia's friends. She has messy brown long hair, and a childish personality.
"Maybe" she said. "But I do it on instinct, when I'm actively trying to use my left, my handwriting is a mess."
"Suurre" Her friend said skeptically.
"Well, I've got to walk home, see you"
"See ya!"
As Emilia walked home staring at the sky, she felt a pair of hands cover her eyes.
"Guess who!" The voice called cheerfully.
"Yuki"
The hands came off as she turned around to see her friend Yuki, pouting.
"How did you know?" she complained.
"Because you're the only person who would do something like this. So anyway, want to walk home?"
"Sure"
Yuki was the mischievous type, a girl who truly acted her age. Yuki has medium length brown hair with an abnormally cute hairpin.
"Hey are you okay?" asked Yuki, as she bent over to clearly see Emilia's face
Emilia told her that ever since last week, she can't help but feel like she's forgetting something important. All kinds of strange things were happening. She uses her left hand on instinct, she always gets the urge to buy every manga in the store, and worst of all she went to the men's bathroom several times by accident.
"Emilia" Yuki said in a serious tone, placing her hand on her shoulder.
Emilia looks up in surprise. She never saw this side of Yuki. "Yes?"
Tension was rising. Is she going to comfort me?
Suddenly, Yuki burst out laughing.
"You went to the men's bathroom!? Not once, But multiple times! Ooh that's gotta be the best!"
Emilia frowned. She should have known that was going to happen.
So Emilia's friends consisted of 3 people: Azusa, Akari, and Yuki.
Emilia wasn't much of a normal child. Her parents encouraged her to study daily, even at a young age.
But suddenly, her parents left her in Academy city, and her friends were all she had left.
It was strange. Emilia was well aware that a kid like her taking care of herself isn't normal in society. Even stranger was that Emilia didn't really mind it at all; she couldn't really remember anything about her parents. She only remembered their constant encouragement of studying.
But even when her parents were no longer there to remind her, she studied. She studied hard to learn all the related to math, physics, and chemistry. She studied and memorized theorems, and even came up with new theorems and discoveries of her own.
Thanks to her high IQ, learning and studying wasn't that hard, it just took a lot of time and grit.
Finally, when Emilia turned 10 years old in the summer, she entered the city's power curriculum program. She was very interested in espers, and wondered what her ability would be.
Emilia was a level 1, her ability was called Thermal Hand; an ability that allows one to change the temperature in specific areas.
Akari and Yuki were level 0s, and Azusa was a level 2.
The 3 friends applauded Azusa's highest level among the friends.
Emilia was at least glad that she had an ability, and beat the 40% of students who were level 0s.
However, as time went on, Emilia realized that her power isn't just making minor changes in temperature of any object within a 25 meter radius, she could also increase and decrease the momentum of her toy cars, making them faster or slower. She was also able to increase the input of power in electrical appliances.
As Emilia laid down, she thought about her power for some time.
Why am I able to do other things besides my ability? Could it be that I have multiple abilities? She shook her head vigorously. No! That was proven wrong a long time ago!
The scientists dismissed the strange phenomenon, so I'm going to figure it out myself. What does thermal, movement, and electromagnetism have in common?
After a week or two, while Emilia and her friends are eating lunch together on a lone picnic table it suddenly hit her.
She stood up, surprising her friends.
Kinetic energy! They're all forms of kinetic energy! When I make things hotter or colder, I'm increasing or decreasing the amount of Kinetic energy into the particles that make up the object. When I'm accelerating or decelerating moving objects, I'm increasing or decreasing the amount the Kinetic energy applied to the object by touching it. Finally, me increasing electricity use of household appliances is me speeding up the movement of electrical charge.
Emilia looked at her hand, with this knowledge, she might be able make objects even colder or hotter than she was tested to be. She looked at the bottle of water Yuki owns and firmly closed her eyes.
0 degrees, I want you particles to slow down.
Emilia didn't hear anything, but she felt the heat in the water suddenly rush out. The feeling could not be explained. As she slowly reopened her eyes, she was amazed the water inside the transparent bottle miraculously froze. She ran over to the other side of the table, inspecting the bottle.
"Wow, your thermal hand is a lot more useful and stronger than I thought!" Yuki said in surprise, holding the bottle against her head, enjoying the new ice pack.
Emilia was still amazed. The scientists, who are professionals with years of experience, were actually wrong. Emilia's power wasn't Thermal Hand…
It was Kinetic Energy Manipulation.
