Ash's Pokemon Journey
Summary: This story is about how I think that ash's journey should have gone through, Kanto, Orange Islands, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh and Unova. Smart, a psychic and an Aura user (He'll find out about being a psyphic and Aura user later). I do not own pokemon.
Note: I am not doing the Kalos Region. So fairy pokemon don't exist.
Chapter 38
The Bug catching contest, the
Dojo and the wannabe bug trainer
After the pokeathlon event was over, the gang noticed that an event was happening in the National Park. The park keeper explained that they were holding a bug catching contest. "You go through the park; catch a bug pokemon for yourself and the winner gets a sun stone. And the trainers, who come first, second and third get to keep the bug pokemon they captured". Misty decided to stay out of that because she didn't like bugs, but Ash defiantly wanted to enter. Tomo asked the keeper if he could enter as well, even though he was only nine years old. The park keeper said that any kids from eight to sixteen could enter, as long as they had a pokemon with them.
Ash and Tomo got in line to register at once. "I hope to win and get a new pokemon big brother" said Tomo. "So do I Tomo" said Ash. "I must ask," said Misty "is a sun stone an evolutionary stone?" "Yes it is," said Brock "it evolves a Gloom into a Bellossom and a Sunkern into a Sunflora". "It would be nice to win that," said Ash "and I could add it to my evolutionary stone collection". Just then a girl, wearing a yellow and black striped jacket came up to the gang; it was Casey. "Hi guys" she said. "Hi Casey," said Ash "how have you been?" "I have been great," replied Casey "my pokemon and I have been on a winning streak like my favourite team the Electabuzz. And my team of yellow pokemon, with black stripes is starting to build". Casey had caught herself a Beedrill and a Flaffy. She explained that Flaffy evolves into an Ampharos, which is a yellow pokemon with black stripes. "But I still haven't caught an Electabuzz yet, but I will get one. But for now I am focusing if winning this bug catching contest and getting a new bug type pokemon". Tomo revealed to Casey that he had an Elekid the pre-evolved form of Electabuzz. Casey was shocked and felt defeated, but soon perked herself up again. "I'm not letting that get me down" she said.
After Ash, Tomo and Casey signed up for the bug catching contest, the announcer explained all the rules. Next all the trainers were given a park ball each. "You can only catch a bug pokemon with the park ball," said the announcer "and the judges will decided which three bug pokemon are the best for first, second and third place". Then the bug catching contest began. All those who registered started running through the park to catch a bug pokemon, while those who didn't register, including Misty and Brock, sat down in stadium seats and watched the event from a big screen.
Ash and Tomo went together so that they wouldn't be separated. "Where shall we look?" asked Tomo. "Well bug pokemon always take shelter in bushes and trees," said Ash "so I intend to search through the bushes and trees first". Tomo agreed and went with Ash towards the trees. Pikachu had his ears ready to listen for bug pokemon and Growlithe had his nose ready to sniff them out. Trainers were looking everywhere for the bug pokemon; through bushes, through grass and looking between the branches of trees. There were all kinds of bug pokemon in the forest; Caterpie, Metapod, Butterfree, Weedle, Kakuna, Beedrill, Scyther, Pinsir, Venonat, Venomoth, Paras, Parasect, Spinarak, Ledyba and Pineco. Back at the seats Misty kept on screaming after seeing all the bug pokemon on screen and poor Brock was doing his best to calm her down, but to no avail.
Meanwhile Ash and Tomo were still searching for bug pokemon to catch, when suddenly Growlithe noticed something by some wild flowers. A big ladybird was flying over the wild flowers. "What pokemon is that?" asked Tomo. "That's Ledian, the evolved form of Ledyba" said Ash. Tomo decided that he wanted Ledian and had Growlithe attack Ledian with flamethrower. Ledian got hit by the flamethrower and was hurt. Tomo threw his park ball at the Ledian and caught it in a second. "Well done Tomo," said Ash "now to find a bug pokemon for myself". Just then Pikachu heard a rustle from the bushes nearby. Out of the bushes came a big pink and purple and yellow striped spider type pokemon. "Hey that's an Ariados, the evolved form of Spinarak" said Ash "I'm so going to catch that". He had Pikachu use thunder on Ariados. Ariados got fried by Pikachu's thunder attack. Ash threw his park ball at Ariados and caught it in a second. "I hope we get to keep Ariados and Ledyba" said Tomo. "So do I Tomo," said Ash "I would really like to have Ariados on my team". "Yeah and I want to keep Ledian" said Tomo.
Meanwhile Casey was searching around for bug pokemon as well. She had already battled and captured a Pineco, but felt that Pineco may not be enough. She had seen and battle other bug pokemon as well, but she thought they weren't enough either "Since we are aiming to win, we will need a bug pokemon that is strong" she said to Chikorita. Just then she saw a Scyther in the long grass. "That Scyther is just what we need to win this contest, let's go Chikorita". Chikorita used razor leaf on Scyther, but of course being a grass type move it didn't do much. Scyther fought back using its fury cutter attack. "Don't give up Chikorita," said Casey "the game isn't over yet". Chikorita fought back with another razor leaf, but Scyther just cut the leaves with its scythes. Casey then commanded Chikorita to tackle it. Scyther kept on slashing at Chikorita with its scythes and was just about to deliver a final blow, when it suddenly got shocked.
The shock came from Ash's Pikachu. "What are you going here?" asked Casey "I saw this Scyther first". "Here to help your Chikorita," replied Ash "what you're doing isn't fair to Chikorita". "Yeah and Chikorita will easily get defeated by Scyther since bugs defeat grass" said Tomo. "Chikorita will win" said Casey. She was too stubborn to listen to Ash's and Tomo's warnings. Scyther got up from the shock and was about to slash at Chikorita again, but Growlithe frightened it off with his roar attack. Casey was shocked when Scyther flew away in fear. "What did you do that for?" she shouted. "Because you were pushing your Chikorita too hard, when it was already too tired to battle more" said Ash. "Ash is right Casey" said Misty from behind.
Misty and Brock had seen all the things that Casey had been doing on screen and all the battles she had put Chikorita through. They both thought that Casey wasn't being fair to Chikorita either and decided to get into the park to speak to Casey. "Casey do you prefer winning battles over your pokemon?" asked Misty. "Absolutely not," said Casey "my pokemon mean a lot to me". "If that's true then you should think more about how your pokemon is feeling" said Ash. "That's right," said Misty "you've been more concentrated of winning this contest, that you have turned blind of how exhausted your Chikorita is". "What you need to do is no only think about your feelings but also your pokemon's feelings" said Brock. Casey started to feel ashamed of how she had been behaving towards her pokemon and felt like crying. Chikorita went over to Casey's side to soothe her. Casey apologized to Chikorita and hugged him. The gang was happy that Casey and Chikorita made up.
Suddenly they heard a small explosion, not far from where they were standing. "What was that?" gasped Ash. "I don't know," said Brock "but we better check it out". The gang and Casey hurried to see where the small explosion came from. What they saw was a shock; injured bug pokemon were scattered about. "Who on earth did this?" gasped Tomo. Laughter was heard above them; it was Team Rocket in their balloon. "What are you three doing here?" demanded Ash. "Well we wanted to enter this contest to get a bug pokemon as well" said James. "But we were told that those over sixteen can't enter," said Jessie "so we decided to just trespass into the contest with our balloon to catch all of these bug pokemon". "Yeah and with help from these Pineco and their self-destructing move, catching bug pokemon is easy" said Meowth. Team Rocket had used cables to capture a dozen wild Pineco and was using them to self-destruct and weaken the other wild bug pokemon. The gang and Casey were not happy with what Team Rocket had done. "I may not like bug pokemon, but this is terrible" said Misty. "We've got to stop them" said Ash.
Casey stepped forward. "You guys are despicable!" she shouted "this is a fowl move and I am going to stop your fowl play by defeating you". Team Rocket laughed; they didn't believe that she could defeat them. "Chikorita," said Casey "we will need to strike hard with all our might to win this game". Chikorita nodded with agreement and then suddenly he began to glow. "What's happening?" asked Casey. "I think Chikorita's evolving" said Misty. Misty was right; Chikorita turned into a bigger version of himself, with a bigger leaf on his head and big buds were around his neck. "Chikorita evolved into a Bayleef" said Casey, who was happy with the evolution.
Ash looked at Bayleef on the pokedex: Bayleef, the leaf pokemon. The evolved form of Chikorita. The buds that ring its neck give off a spicy aroma that perks people up.
"Okay Bayleef use your razor leaf to cut those cables and set the Pineco free". Bayleef cut the cables easily with his razor leaf and all the wild Pineco were free. "Oh no," said Meowth "I think we are in trouble now". He was right; Pikachu sent Team Rocket flying away again with thunderbolt.
Soon the contest was over and it was time for the judges to examine the captured bug pokemon and see which three trainers had won. The trainer who came in third place was a girl named Christine, who captured a Venomoth, and she got a gold berry for a prize as well as keeping Venomoth. "I can plant this gold berry and grow more of it" she said. Tomo came in second place and got an everstone for a prize and got to keep Ledian. Ash came in first place and got the sun stone for a prize and got to keep Ariados. "One more evolutionary stone for my collection" said Ash. Everyone else clapped and cheered for the winners.
Ash and Tomo were happy that they got to keep Ledian and Ariados. "I'm happy for you Ash and Tomo," said Casey "and I don't feel down at all, because my Bayleef is all I need". She started to sing her song for Ash's and Tomo's victory. (The same song from the bug catching contest episode) After that the gang said goodbye to Casey and went on their way.
The gang were walking through a forest, feeling very happy. Not only were they happy with Ash's and Tomo's captures of Ariados and Ledian a few days ago, they were happy with Brock's and Misty's new pokemon evolutions. On the day after the bug catching contest, Misty was training with her Staryu, Goldeen, Gloom and two Poliwags. Gloom was growing strong and Misty decided it was time for her Gloom to evolve. Ash showed Misty Gloom's second evolved form, Bellossom, on his pokedex. Bellossom looked like a hula dancer, because the leaves around its waist looked like a hula skirt. Misty liked the thought of having a Bellossom very much and Ash used his sun stone to evolve Gloom into a Bellossom. Misty fell in love with her new Bellossom at once. The day after that Brock's Zubat evolved into a Golbat and Brock was happy with having a Golbat. "With all the capturing of new pokemon and evolutions of our pokemon," said Ash "it makes me wonder what pokemon we will capture next or which one of our pokemon will evolve next". "I wonder that as well" smiled Brock.
Suddenly they heard a noise, which sounded like a stampede. A Tauros was charging down the hill. The Tauros's trainer was chasing after hit, telling it to come down. But Tauros was in such a panic it couldn't hear him. Just then Ash saw an old man walking down the same path as Tauros and feared he may be in trouble. He ran towards the old man and sent out his Noctowl to try and calm Tauros down. "Use extrasensory Noctowl". Noctowl fired extrasensory at the ground in front of Tauros to stop it in its tracks. Tauros did stop and started to charge at Noctowl. "Fly around Tauros" said Ash. Noctowl flew in circles around Tauros and Tauros started to feel giddy. "Okay, now use hypnosis to put it to sleep". Noctowl's hypnosis put it to sleep in a second. The old man had been watching Ash and Noctowl and was impressed of how Ash commanded his Noctowl in battle. Tauros's trainer came up to return Tauros to his pokeball. "We were training together, but he got stung by a Beedrill" the trainer explained. "You have trained your Noctowl well young man," the old man said to Ash "if you come with me, I may have the perfect job for you".
The old man introduced himself as Kenzo and brought the gang to some wooden mansion in the forest. "What is this place?" asked Tomo. "This is a pokemon dojo" said Kenzo. "I've heard of those," said Ash "it's like a martial arts school but it's for trainers and fighting type pokemon". "That's correct," said Kenzo "and my family has run this dojo for years. And I am the current Shihan of this dojo". Ash had heard of Shihans; they were the master instructors of dojos. "So why have you brought us here?" asked Brock. "Because of my granddaughter, Chigusa," said Kenzo "I call my granddaughter's way of teaching absolutely foolish. The way she does pokemon training makes the dojo like a dancing school". When they went inside they saw Kenzo's Granddaughter teaching some kids and their fighting type pokemon. Chigusa's fighting type pokemon was a Hitmontop and right now they were teaching the trainers and pokemon about footwork. Ash, Tomo, Misty and Brock thought that Chigusa and Hitmontop were doing well with their training, but Kenzo didn't.
After Chigusa's teaching was finished and the trainers went home, Chigusa noticed her grandpa's visitors. "Who are your guests Grandfather?" she asked. Kenzo introduced Chigusa to Ash. "He shall replace me as the new Shihan" he said. Chigusa and the gang were surprised with what Kenzo just said. "Wait a minute Grandfather," said Chigusa "I'm going to take over this dojo". Kenzo laughed. "You are not worthy for the Shihan title", he said "you are more worthy for an instructor at a dance school". Chigusa was cross with what Kenzo just said, and asked Ash to have a pokemon battle with her and her Hitmontop. "I take it you do have some fighting type pokemon Ash?" "Yes I do," said Ash "and I have one with me now". He released Tyrogue from his pokeball. Chigusa was surprised with Ash's decision. "I got my Hitmontop as a Tyrogue," she said "but yours hasn't evolved into a Hitmonchan, Hitmonlee or Hitmontop". "My Tyrogue here doesn't want to evolve," said Ash "besides he is strong enough as he is. And that is why I've chosen him to battle your Hitmontop". "Very well," said Chigusa "but I will win".
Ash and Chigusa went to the battle arena of the dojo and got ready to battle. Kenzo became the referee and declared the battle to begin. "Okay Tyrogue use bulk up" said Ash. A red glow surrounded Tyrogue while he was reflexing his muscles, and he felt stronger. "Hitmontop hit that Tyrogue with rolling kick" said Chigusa. Hitmontop jumped over to Tyrogue to kick him. "Use double team Tyrogue" said Ash. Tyrogue made multiple copies of himself, making Hitmontop very surprised and confused of which was the real Tyrogue. "Don't let your rhythm go down because of this," said Chigusa "use rapid spin on all the copies". Hitmontop spun on his head like a top and started to tackle the copies of Tyrogue. "Stand your ground Tyrogue," said Ash "and keep a close eye on Hitmontop". Hitmontop began to get nearer to Tyrogue. "Use triple kick" said Chigusa. Hitmontop tried to kick Tyrogue three times, but Tyrogue dodged all of them. "Use dizzy punch to stop Hitmontop from spinning" said Ash. Tyrogue's fists glowed white and was going left and right to punch Hitmontop. "Now use strength Tyrogue". Tyrogue glowed white and grabbed one of Hitmontop's hands. Then he swung Hitmontop around and then tossed it to the ground. "Now finish it off with dizzy punch". Tyrogue gave one last punch to Hitmontop and then Hitmontop fainted. "Hitmontop is unable to battle, Ash is the winner" said Kenzo.
Chigusa was surprised with Ash's battling techniques and asked him how he managed to defeat Hitmontop. "Well the truth is," said Ash "what I did was pay attention to Hitmontop's movements. The thing is Chigusa you didn't pay attention to any of Tyrogue's movements at all. I mean you kept on relying on Hitmontop's spinning ability so much, that even if Hitmontop can attack while spinning it can still end up easily defeated. You need to stop relying on the spinning so much". "Young Ash is right Chigusa," said Kenzo "it's true that spinning is a great offence, but it makes it difficult for Hitmontop to defend itself from another pokemon's attack. You put your pokemon in danger". After hearing Ash and Kenzo's words, Chigusa started to feel ashamed and apologized to Hitmontop at once. Then she asked Ash to train her and Hitmontop with him. Ash gladly accepted and got switched his Totodile for his Hitmontop from Prof Oak's lab. Together Ash and Chigusa trained their Hitmontops and Ash showed Chigusa is way of battling with his Hitmontop and Tyrogue.
The next day a turquoise haired man came to the dojo. He introduced himself as Shiro and asked to battle the Shihan of the dojo. "The thing is I wish to be a Shihan of my own dojo," said Shiro "so I battle every Shihan there is and win the plaques of the dojos so that I could hang them in my own dojo". Kenzo, being the Shihan, was going to accept the battle, but he decided to have Chigusa battle Shiro. "I want you to show me the results of your training last night" he said to her.
Shiro sent his pokemon, a Hitmonlee, to battle and of course Chigusa sent out her Hitmontop to battle. Thanks to Ash's training and teaching last night, Chigusa and Hitmontop battled better than they did last night. Chigusa paid close attention to Hitmonlee's movements and she didn't rely on Hitmontop's spinning so much this time. Soon Hitmonlee was defeat by Hitmontops rolling kick attack. Shiro returned Hitmonlee and thought that Chigusa was a good fighting type pokemon trainer, and then he left the dojo for another dojo. Kenzo was impressed of how well Chigusa had progressed and decided that she was suitable to become the next Shihan. Chigusa was happy to hear that and the gang was happy for her.
Soon the gang got ready to leave. "I thank you so much Ash for teaching me about pokemon battles" said Chigusa. "It's my pleasure," said Ash "and I think you will be a great Shihan". "If you ever decide to be a Shihan in the future Ash," said Kenzo "come to me and I will help you become one". The gang said goodbye to Kenzo and Chigusa and left on their journey.
Today the gang were walking through green area near a mountain. "This is lovely place," said Misty "I feel relaxed here". "With all the trees, flowers, grass and a beautiful looking stream, anyone would really" said Brock. Just then the gang heard someone laughing nearby. "Someone sounds happy" said Ash. "Let's see what the laughing is about" said Brock.
They realised where the laughing was from quite soon. A blue haired boy was playing around with some sort of dragonfly. "Hey that's a Yanma," said Brock "a bug type pokemon". "Really?" said Misty "well for a bug type pokemon, it doesn't look creepy to me".
Ash looked at Yanma on the pokedex: Yanma, the clear wing pokemon. By flapping its wings at high speed, it can fly freely through the air. Even sudden stops are no problem.
The boy noticed the gang, returned Yanma to the pokeball, and was about to run. "Hey wait don't go," said Ash "we are just travellers on our way to Ecruteak City". "Then that means you are not from the town," said the boy "I thought you were from the town. I do apologize and my name is Zachary". The gang introduced themselves. "So why were you about to run away from us when you thought we were from town?" asked Misty. "Well the truth is," said Zachary "I was supposed to release my Yanma into the wild yesterday". Huh, why?" asked Ash. "Well it's a bit of a long story, but I'll tell you" said Zachary.
Zachary told the gang his story with Yanma. "About a month ago I found Yanma near the stream. It was pouring with rain that day and poor Yanma was soaked and was in pretty bad shape. I brought it home with me at once and took great care of it. After having a good rest, with some food, Yanma got better in no time at all. When Yanma was better I was going to release t back into the wild, but Yanma wanted to stay with me. I didn't want to let Yanma go as well so I caught Yanma in a pokeball and made it my starter pokemon". "It's obvious that you love that Yanma very much" said Ash. "Yes I do," said Zachary "the truth is I like all bug pokemon and I wish to be a bug pokemon trainer". "That's cool," said Tomo "do you have any other bug pokemon with you?" "Actually I do" said Zachary. He took out five pokeballs from his pocket and out came a Pineco, a Spinarak, a Ledyba, a Caterpie and a Weedle. Misty started to freak out from seeing them. Ash explained that Misty was scared of bug types, and Tomo returned them to not frighten Misty more. "With your six bug pokemon, I know you will make a great trainer" said Brock. "But how come you were supposed to release Yanma?" asked Ash. "Well you see," said Zachary "as soon as Yanma was flying the flight of its wings broke every glass windows in my dad's shop. He's a glass window maker you see and Yanma was causing problems there. And the town's windows got broken too by Yanma, so I was told by my dad to get rid of Yanma either he's glass making business will go out. But I can't bring myself to do that so I kept Yanma in his pokeball in secret and we secretly spend time here. And neither my dad nor the townspeople know that I still have Yanma on me". "It's not really good to lie," said Brock "but I do understand what you mean". "Yeah," said Misty "and even if Yanma is causing problems, it doesn't mean you should give it up".
After hearing Zachary's story, Ash looked thoughtful. "Would you mind showing me how Yanma breaks something made out of glass?" he said to Zachary "because I think I might know what's making the glass broken by Yanma's wings". "Okay" said Zachary, wanting to know what Ash meant. Ash took out a glass jar from his rucksack and placed it on the ground. Next Zachary let Yanma out from the pokeball and Yanma flew over to the glass jar. Ash watched Yanma closely as the glass jar began to break. "Ah ha," said Ash "I got the answer. It's the shockwaves from Yanma's wings that causes glass to break. But Yanma's shock waves are really an attack called sonic boom". "I've seen that attack before myself" said Brock. "So the thing is Zachary," said Ash "if we help Yanma with its sonic boom attack, it will be able to control the sonic waves no matter where you are. And it will stop breaking glass too". Zachary thanked Ash and agreed to let Ash train Yanma.
So for the rest of the afternoon, Ash and Zachary practiced with Yanma and its sonic boom attack. Ash's new Ariados knew sonic boom and helped Yanma learn how to use sonic boom. Yanma then practiced using sonic boom on Pikachu and in no time at all Yanma's sonic boom was perfect. Ash laid another glass jar in front of Yanma, and this time it didn't break. "We did it," said Ash "now Yanma will stop breaking glass like crazy". "Thank you Ash," said Zachary "now there won't be any more trouble". But then Zachary realised that he had to tell his dad the truth about not releasing Yanma. "He is not going to be happy about me disobeying him". "Don't worry," said Misty "we will come with and explain to your dad with you". "Thanks all of you" said Zachary.
Zachary and the gang found Zachary's dad at the pokemon center. He was placing a stained glass window outside the pokemon center. It had pictures of five pokemon; Sunflora, Bellosom, Butterfree, Aipom and Jigglypuff, and it looked very beautiful. When Zachary saw his dad, he was just about to tell him about Yanma, when suddenly three people from the town showed up. "It's terrible!" shouted a woman. "What's going on?" asked Zachary's dad. A Victreebel is roaming around the town and causing trouble," said a man "and it's tossing razor leaf attack nonstop". "Oh my!" gasped Nurse Joy. "We better get over there and deal with that Victreebel" said Brock. The gang, Zachary, his father, Nurse Joy and the three town's people ran to where the Victreebel was.
The soon found Victreebel near some shops and people were running from Victreebel, so they wouldn't get hit by its razor leaf attack. "Why is Victreebel attacking the town for?" asked Misty. "I don't know," said Brock "but we need to stop it and fast". Ash released his Cyndaquil to fight Victreebel and then turned to Zachary. "This is your chance to show what you and Yanma can do Zach" said Ash. Zachary felt scared of revealing his secret to everyone, but he knew that it was time to tell his dad the truth about Yanma. "Okay let's go Yanma" said Zachary, tossing Yanma's pokeball. Zachary's dad was surprised to see Yanma, and he realised that his son didn't release Yanma like he asked him to. "Cyndaquil use flamethrower on Victreebel" said Ash. "Yanma use sonic boom" said Zachary. Victreebel got hit by both the flamethrower and sonic boom. "Now use tackle" said Ash and Zachary together. After getting tackled by Cyndaquil and Yanma, Victreebel fainted. "We did it Zachary" said Ash. Zachary nodded with agreement.
Nurse Joy went over to Victreebel to examine it. "Ah I see why it went on a rampage through town" she said. "What is it Nurse Joy?" asked Ash. Nurse Joy produced a big sharp thorn. "This was stuck on its sides, which is why it went crazy" said Nurse Joy. "No wonder," said Ash "having something sharp inside your skin would make anyone or any pokemon crazy". Nurse Joy took Victreebel back to her pokemon center so she could heal it.
Zachary spoke to his dad about never releasing Yanma at all, because he loved Yanma too much to release it. Zachary's dad started at Zachary in silent for a moment. The gang was nervous about how he would react. But then Zachary's dad smiled. "After seeing you battle that Victreebel with Yanma, I can tell that you have become one with Yanma," he said "so you deserve to keep Yanma and I know that you will become a great bug pokemon trainer". Zachary was happy after hearing his dad's words. The gang felt happy for Zachary and were relieved that everything did work out.
So Yanma finally became one of Zachary's bug pokemon team, and the gang bid farewell to Zachary and his dad to move on their journey.
I always found it a pity that Ash gave his Beedrill to Casey, so I had him catch a different pokemon and have Casey already have a Beedrill. They should have given Casey an Ampharos since it's a yellow pokemon with black stripes. Zachary is based on Zachary Evans in the wings n things episode. Since Zachary liked Yanma so much, I decided to make him a bug pokemon trainer.
