A Kaiju Sized Surprise.
To say Ruiko was in deep trouble would be an understatement. After sneaking in to a room where only authorized personnel was allowed, Ruiko watched as a large egg, revealing a baby kaiju. The hatchling smelled her for a bit before it tunnelled it's way out of the base and escaped. Because of what she did, Ruiko received a very long scolding from her superiors. She might just be responsible for the loss of a very important asset to G-Force, and now another kaiju was running free out there. And since they had no idea how long it takes for it to mature, there is a big chance they won't be able to capture it before it deals a lot of damage.
So of course Ruiko had to be punished for it. She had two options. Spend a whole month being locked up. Or clean the base for a whole month. Not wanting to be isolated for that long, she chose cleaning. It had already been 3 weeks of this torment, and of course it proved to be really boring. She had to scrub the entire training room by herself. And the training room was huge! She swore one could fit an entire kaiju inside this place! And she really had to clean the whole place herself... and it wasn't even the only thing she needed to clean. Once she was done, she had to clean up outside.
"This is so unfair. I only wanted to look at the egg, I didn't know it was going to hatch!" Ruiko complained to herself as she was scrubbing the floor.
She sighed at that. Her curiosity had always been her biggest problem. Sometimes she gets so curious about something, even though she knows it could be dangerous. But she still needs to check it out, and more often than not she ends up getting in to trouble, and her friends needs to save her. But this time there was nothing they could do and her beloved best friend Kazari even felt that this was a good way for Ruiko to finally learn her lesson. So much for loyalty. And Ruiko had a feeling Kazari said it as payback for all the times Ruiko flipped her skirt. But Kazari has been wearing pants ever since the joined G-Force, so Ruiko had nothing to flip up anymore. She never knew being part of a special military force that focuses on stopping monsters could be this boring.
She managed to finish cleaning the training room and was already tired, but was told she was not allowed to rest until all her chores are finished. So with a tired sigh she headed outside where she had to clean up any garbage she found. It was so boring, and she could feel herself getting closer to fainting from how tired and bored she was. After doing some cleaning she headed closer to the lake that was located right next to the base. She sat down and sighed. She needed to have a quick break before she continued. She couldn't clean up everything if she collapses before she's done.
She looked out at the large lake, almost tempted to go for a swim. But she knew better than to tempt fate any more than she already had. She just wished something else would happen so she wouldn't need to be on cleaning duty anymore. Suddenly she spotted something in the water.
"Huh? What's that?" She wondered out loud as she saw something moving towards her... suddenly spikes pokes out of the wat. Ruiko got wide eyes "Oh no! Gojira is back!".
She stands up and began running back towards the base. Really regretting that she decided to sneak out. A large creature emerged from the lake... but it wasn't Godzilla, it was to small to be him. But Ruiko didn't really feel like looking back to check. But while the creature was a lot smaller than the monster that put Ruiko in a coma, it was still big enough to easily catch up with her with it's long steps. Ruiko ended up falling on the ground and when she rolled on to her back she finally saw what had been chasing her. And it sure wasn't Godzilla.
It was the creature that had hatched from the egg. But it was now the size of a small building. But it's only been 3 weeks since Ruiko last saw him. How on earth did he grow this large in such a short time? Not that Ruiko had much time to think about it as the large creature was looking down at her before leaning down towards her.
"No! No! Please!" Ruiko begged as she curled up with her hands on her head, silently begging the large beast not to eat her... but then she felt him smell her, making her look up in confusion "Huh?".
She yelped as she felt the creature lick her before he rose his head a little, looking at her with playful eyes. Like a puppy looking at his owner.
"Wait... you remember me?" Ruiko asked as she stood up and the creature only kept looking at her with that same look in his eyes. It made him look cute... in a scary sort of way.
However the moment was cut short when several G-Force soldiers arrived with heave weapons and armored vehicles. The young kaiju growls at them and steps between them and Ruiko, as if he was trying to protect her... in fact, that's exactly what he was trying to do. But against so many soldiers with so many dangerous weapons, he would be shot down in a matter of seconds. The soldiers took aim, ready to kill him... but for some reason, Ruiko couldn't let that happen.
She quickly ran out from behind the kaiju and held her hands up "Don't shoot! DON'T SHOOT!".
"What the hell!? Get out of there kid!" The commander shouted.
Not knowing what else to do, Ruiko turned around and looked at the young Kaiju "Go! Get back to the water and swim away! Go! GO!".
The large creature hesitated, but much to Ruiko amazement, he actually did what she told him to do. He turned around and ran back in to the water where he quickly vanished. Ruiko sighed in relief. Happy she managed to save him... but she still didn't understand why she did it. Why did she risk her life to help a large monster? Her thoughts were interrupted when several soldiers surrounded her. Making it very clear she had new problems now. Much to her annoyance.
Back inside the base, Ruiko was sitting on a chair, with her friends standing behind her, and Douglas Gordon was walking back and forward, looking like he was ready to snap someone's neck, which Ruiko worried would be hers. Miki and Genshiro were also in the room, both a little worried about what Gordon might do in his angered state.
"Tell me kid, do you enjoy making me angry? I really believed cleaning duty would teach you a much needed lesson. But this is the second time a monster has slipped through our fingers because of you!" Gordon said, clearly struggling to keep his composure.
"I'm sorry sir... I don't know why, but I just couldn't allow your soldiers to kill him. I just... felt a strong need to save him. I can't really explain why" Ruiko said with her hand down.
"What you have a soft spot for monsters now? I am really tempted to lock you up for life after all this. You are becoming more trouble than you're worth, kid" Gordon said.
"Then you might as well lock us all up, sir. Because there is no way we are going to sit by and let you take her away from us" Mikoto said, ready to defend her friend. Kuroko and Kazari were both ready to help defend their friend if need be.
"This is why I don't like kids. Always believing they can do whatever they want" Gordon said in a dangerous tone.
"Sir, I think you are overlooking something really important" Genshiro said, hoping to defuse the situation.
"And what could that be?" Gordon demanded.
"Remember the reports? Saten here was able to prevent a battle against the creature which could've badly damaged the base. She managed to make the kaiju leave with only a few verbal commands. The creature listened to her" Genshiro said.
Gordon finally calmed down "What are you getting at?".
Miki walked up to Ruiko "Saten, tell us what happened that night where you saw the egg hatch".
Ruiko thinks for a bit "Well I snuck in because I wanted a quick look at the egg. But then it suddenly hatched. I got covered in all the gross fluid from the egg. Then he smelled me and even licked me. Then he left. And when it came back today, he did the same thing. He smelled me for a bit and the licked me. He remembered me".
Genshiro looked surprised "Amazing. I never expected this to happen".
"What? What happened?" Kazari asked.
"When this new kaiju hatched, he imprinted on Saten because she was the first living being it saw and she was covered by the remains of the egg, making her smell just like him. In short, it believes Saten is his mother" Genshiro explained.
"Wait what!?" Ruiko asked in shock.
"This could also explain why you felt such a strong need to protect him, Saten. You have formed a bond with him" Miki said with a smile.
"Not sure if I should feel proud or terrified" Ruiko admitted.
"And how is this a good thing?" Gordon asked.
"Think about it, Gordon. If this kaiju really does what Saten tells him to do. There is no limit to the amount of things we can learn. And we can learn without needing to kill him first. Studying a living specimen could advance her research at a much faster rate than ever before" Genshiro answered.
Gordon did not like the idea "Do you have any idea of the massive risk I would be taking if I somehow agree to this?".
"You know better than most sir. Nothing worth while is ever achieved without risks" Miki said.
Gordon closed his eyes in deep thought, every fiber of his being screaming at him to refuse the request and just kill that monster. But against his better judgment he sighed "Fine. I don't like this, but we need all the information we can get. But be warned. If anything bad happens because of this new kaiju, I will hold you all responsible".
"We understand sir. So what do you say, Saten? Are you up for it?" Miki asked.
Ruiko felt like she was stepping in to something much bigger than her, in more ways than one. But she still nods "Alright... this is insane, but I am willing to try".
"Good. We will begin once we figure out how to attract that thing to a safer place" Gordon said.
Kuroko looks at Ruiko "Well, since you are now the adopted mother of a giant lizard. Maybe you should name it?".
"That is a good idea. It can help complete your connection to him" Miki said.
"So, Saten? What will you name your giant son?" Kazari said, sound both amused and worried.
Ruiko thinks for a while, trying to come up with a name... she thought about what the kaiju looked like and who she mistook him for "Zilla".
"Why Zilla?" Mikoto asked.
"It just sounds right" Ruiko said with a smile. He life sure would never be boring after this.
Elswhere, the mutated monster had drained an entire factory of it's pollution... killing all the workers inside. Absorbing so much made it even bigger than before. It let out a noise that sounded like a gurgling roar. Before it suddenly began to morph it's body... and began to fly away. An ability it did not possess before. The pollution made it mutate even more.
But it needed to find more... and it's search for more pollution was leading it dangerously closer to Academy City... and a certain king was tracking it down.

Sorry for the long wait. I wanted to update this story when Godzilla Vs Kong came out (The movie is amazing by the way), but I had no clue what to write. Sorry about that, hope you enjoyed the chapter anyway.
