Mama went into labor today. She was in a lot of pain, but Papa called for a Taxi quickly to take her to the Hospital. I can't wait to meet my baby brother...and I won't have to wait much longer! It's already pretty late, sadly, I couldn't go with Mama and Papa, but it's okay. The Obaa-Chan next-door is taking care of me until Mama and Papa come back.

Wait a moment Diary.

Daichi sighed at the way she wrote to her Diary, as if it were her best friend.

Diary! Papa called, and Mama is having my brother right now! He only had a moment to speak before he had to go back in. He said Mama and Papa should be returning home tomorrow...let's hope so!

Kagome Out!

"She was really a whole different person back then,"

June 12th, 2003

Dear Diary...

Mama called on her way home. "Kagome-Chan, mama misses you. She can't wait to see her little girl again!"

It's just like her to be so cheery after having a baby, don't you think?

"Mama was just telling Papa how fun being with Kagome-Chan was. It's nothing like the hospital. The nurses there are boring, and they don't let Mama walk when Mama wants to walk!"

She complains about the littlest things, doesn't she? I know, you're probably confused as to why I'm writing down everything she said, I'll get to that soon.

"Oh, Kagome-Chan, mama and papa are heading home, you'll get to meet your new baby brother soon."

"I love you Kagome! Mama is being mean to Papa, so give Papa a big hug when we get home!"

"Don't' lie to her! Kagome-Chan, Mama isn't being mean! Oh really, I can't wait to see your expression when you meet your new baby brother! He's so cute. You'll just love him!"

This is it, Diary. This was the part I wanted to share. I don't think I'll ever forget this conversation, even if I wanted to, I think it will be with me forever.

"Dear, look out!"

Well, I'm not sure how to spell the sound of tires crying against the pavement, or how to write out just how scared and desperate Mama and Papa sounded...but...

No, actually, I can't write the next part. I'm sorry, Diary. I can't seem to stop crying, and it's messing up your pages. Mama said his name over the phone, after it happened...I heard his name. In all the times I've written to you, I've never cried in front of you, but just this once, please be here with me. After all, now, it's just you and me.

Mama and Papa...I don't think they'll be coming home.

I don't think I'm going to meet my brother.

I won't ever be able to hug them.

I won't get to say "I love you".

...Oh Diary...what am I going to do.

Mama and Papa

Souta

Please don't leave me alone.

Kagome...out.

He swallowed hard, the heavily bolded name of her younger brother was like taking a knife in the heart over and over again. He choked back tears that were swimming in his vision. Looking the page over, he could see puddled droplet stains from years back. Where the writing had blurred only a bit from the tears of a young six-year-old girl. The next date was months later.

Dear Diary,

I know it's been awhile, I'm sorry.

I didn't know what to write, or how to start.

I've gone to counseling sessions, but mostly I just sit and listen as they tell me what they think is wrong with me.

They said Depression.

I wanted to tell him what I thought was wrong with him! Obviously, I'm depressed! How could I not be?!

Hey, Diary...do you think I should get over them?

It's barely been four months, and they act like I've been crying about it for years. I guess it's simple for them, but not for me.

I can't sleep, I dream about it all the time. I hear them in my dreams!

I didn't even get to say goodbye...

I think of what Souta might have looked like. I like to think he'd be like Papa but with mama's doe brown eyes. Her eyes were always so kind and happy. They were warm. Yeah, I bet he'd be like that, Kind, warm and always happy.

Diary...

This will be my last entry, so listen carefully. I will only say this once.

Thank you. Thank you for being with me this last year and while I haven't had you for very long, I promise, I'll always treasure you. Today, I will start a new journal, however.

Kagome out~

"Another Journal..."

"You won't find it here."

Daichi jumped and rolled, falling off the side of the bed and wincing at a sudden twinge of pain in his wrist. 'That's a stinger!' He mentally cursed before looking to see the boy from early staring at him blankly with the palm of his hand resting under his chin lazily. "When did you get back?"

"Twenty minutes or so ago?"

'...' running his hand through dusty rose, chestnut brown hair, Daichi leaned back against the bed behind him as he tapped the closed journal against his knee. "She has the other journal?"

"I guess, but she began writing in it just before her first adoption. It was given to her by the Counselor here. While most kids are supposed to turn them in, she never did, and he never asked for it."

"Who?"

"Ah, Old Man Toutousai."

Sighing as he stood up and brushed away invisible dirt. "I should head back home,"

"..." Sesshoumaru held out a piece of paper, "if you have questions, feel free to ask. If it's for Kagome, I'll do my best to help."

Taking the paper, he eyed the number like it were some foreign entity. "Then, if I need help, I'll call,"

"Daichi, you're home early."

Stopping at the knowing tone in his fathers' voice, Daichi turned to see him sitting at the dining table and drinking a cup of tea. In his hand, a document for work. "Yeah...class ended early."

"Did it? Strang that your Business Management Professor called to check in, since you weren't there for your graded test. I should let you know that you passed with a perfect score on the test but try to avoid skipping in the future."

"Yes, Otou-San."

"Was it a girl?"

Daichi blushed, "n-no. It was a married woman and her son."

Isamu stopped reading over the documents in his hand, placing them down as he turned his attention to his son. "..."

"Not what you're thinking..."

"What am I thinking?"

"...I really don't know." He felt like he'd start crying at any moment, "I went to the orphanage, to learn more about Kagome-Chan. I met Taisho-San and her son, Sesshoumaru. They were helpful, very helpful. I got to read up on Kagome before she was the Kagome that we adopted. I would also like to see the old Kagome resurface, but that might be far into the future."

"Old Kagome?"

"The one that smiled and laughed and playfully spoke to her Diary. That kind of Kagome...she was very happy, and very cheerful."

"In time, I think patience is the best remedy. Right now, doesn't she need to know that this family is permanent? Her faith in adults has dwindled from what your mother told me. She is scared she'll be sent back to the orphanage."

"That won't happen,"

"It already has happened. Many times. Three families...changed their mind."

Daichi nodded, he knew this, and it didn't make any sense to him. "I think we should take her somewhere she likes. I have a cheat sheet...and I would like to implement the things I've learned about her."

Isamu shook his head, "son, there is no cheat sheet when it comes to life, especially when it comes to children."

"You think so? How about a wager then?"

"I think not,"

"You're afraid to lose?"

"...twenty thousand yen says whatever plan you come up with backfires, and Okaa-San will have to clean up your mess."

"Deal! I look forward to the early allowance~" He made to leave before a random thought struck him, "just out of curiosity, have you noticed Kagome with a journal of any kind since she came here?"

Isamu shrugged his shoulders with a little shake of his head.

Sighing, Daichi left to his room as he prepared for his perfect day date with Kagome and the family. Deciding to worry about the missing mystery journal at a later date, he would have to work hard to make sure everyone was available. That was what would make the day go well. Everyone had to be there. 'Eiji and Kouta...I'll drag them there if I need to!'
