Ash's Pokemon Journey
Summary: This story is about how I think that ash's journey should have gone through, Kanto, Orange Islands, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh and Unova. Smart, a psychic and an Aura user (He'll find out about being a psyphic and Aura user later). I do not own pokemon.
Note: I am not doing the Kalos Region. So fairy pokemon and Mega Evolutions don't exist.
Chapter 74
Meeting Brendan and Wally
Petalburg Gym and
The Jade Orb
The gang had arrived at the northern part of Petalburg City, so it wouldn't be long until Ash could battle Norman for a badge at last. Right now they were in the pokemon center, having their pokemon checked. Ash actually had both his Latias and his Latios with him. The truth is when he last saw Norman, Norman asked Ash to battle him with his Latias in their gym battle. "I still don't understand why dad asked you to battle him with Latias Ash" said May. "Simple May; it isn't every day that a gym leader gets to battle with a legendary pokemon," said Ash "and anyway Latias wants to have a go at fighting in a gym battle". "Fine with me" said May.
Ash's Latias and Latios were out of their pokeballs, but they were disguised in human forms. Ash's Latios had grown up over the months and he now knew how to fly, swim, turn invisible, use sight-sharing with his mum Latias and he knew how to disguise himself. His disguise form was actually Ash, but from when Ash was eight years old. Ash learned from Prof Oak that Delia showed some photos to Latias and Latios of Ash when he was younger and Latios decided to take on Ash's eight year old self for a disguised human form. And of course Latias stuck with her Bianca form. Latias asked Ash if she and Latios could stay out of their pokeballs for today, and Ash agreed. Truth is she and Latios wanted to spend the day with Ash; Latios had a special bond with Ash, just like his mum Latias.
Right now the gang were just leaving the center, when suddenly they got surrounded by a big crowd of people. The people were excited about May and Max having returned to Petalburg City. The truth is everyone in Petalburg City was fans of Norman, since he was a great gym leader. They also knew that May and Max had been on a pokemon journey and that May had become a pokemon coordinator. "Tell us May, what has it been like for you as a pokemon coordinator?" asked a woman, whose name was Rose. "Well Rose, it was difficult and scary for me at first, especially since I had no idea of what to do or about anything of pokemon," admitted May "but thanks to my three friends Ash, Brock and Tomo, I've learnt a lot and I'm having lots of fun". "So am I" said Max. May and Max did introduce Ash, Brock and Tomo to everyone, but the crowd wasn't interested in them; only of May and Max. Since May and Max were getting a lot of attention from the crowd, Ash, Tomo and Brock decided to keep out of their way for a while.
Suddenly three boys came up to Ash, Brock and Tomo. "So you three are traveling with Max and May?" asked one of them. "Yes that's right," said Ash "and we came back here to Petalburg City so that I can battle Norman for a badge". "Well that's too bad because you won't get a badge there" said a second boy. "What, why not?" said Ash. "Because only special chosen trainers can battle Norman and you're not one of them" said the third boy. "That is not true," said Ash, crossly, "any trainer can battle any gym leader if they want, and I know that because I've battled gym leaders twenty times before". Ash could see that these boys were jealous of him because he was travelling with May and Max, and he knew that the boys were lying about only special trainers battling Norman. "Calling us liars are you?" asked the first boy "well we shall have a battle to see if you are good enough to battle Norman". "Very well, but if I win I will battle Norman whether you like it or not" said Ash. Latias and Latios could see that Ash was in trouble and they asked him, through telepathy, if he needed help. 'Not yet Latias and Latios,' said Ash, through telepathy, 'I'll battle these three boys, but if things do get out of hand I'll ask for your help then'. Latios and Latias understood and they stayed in their human forms and out of the way.
Ash, Tomo, Brock and the boys went into a park of North Petalburg City, where Ash and the three boys could battle. The first boy sent out a Golduck to battle, and Ash sent out his Grovyle. Apart from Pikachu, Latios and Latias, Ash had Grovyle, Combusken and Marshtomp. Golduck's trainer ordered Golduck to use hydro pump, but Ash ordered Grovyle to dodge it with aerial ace and then strike Golduck with leaf blade. Grovyle dodges the hydro pump, easily, with aerial ace and then with two swipes with leaf blade, Golduck fainted on the spot. The second and third boys got out their pokemon, Abra and Machop, to fight next but they easily got defeat by Ash's Marshtomp and Combusken. What they didn't know was that two boys were watching everything.
Meanwhile May and Max were still gaining lots of attention from the fans. May was showing everyone her Torchic, Marill, Bellosom, Skitty, Plusle and Minun and was also showing off their coordinating skills. Max was talking about his new pokemon, his three Whismur, Spinda, Shroomish, Wingull, Seel, Shuppet and Poochyena, and that of course made the people very interested. Just then two of the three boys that Ash battled with told everyone about a trainer wanting to battle Norman. Rose thought of this as a serious situation, and then she suggested that May should battle this trainer to teach him a lesson. The other people agreed and May had no choice but to agree.
Back in the park, Ash was growing impatient. More kids wanted to battle Ash to stop him from thinking of challenging Norman. "This is getting ridiculous Brock," Tomo said to Brock "Ash does have the right to battle Norman in a gym battle". "You're right," said Brock "but these kids are too stubborn to listen". Right now Ash had enough of this and he turned to his two human disguised pokemon. "Now Latias and Latios" he whispered. Latias and Latios transformed back into their real selves, in front of everyone, what surprised the kids a lot. Then Latias and Latios used psychic, which held all the kids into the air. "Listen to me all of you!" shouted Ash "this behaviour has gone on long enough! I have the right to battle Norman for a gym badge and none of you have the right to stop me!" "Yeah that's right" agreed Tomo.
At that moment Max, May and all the fans turned up. They noticed Latias and Latios and all the kids hanging in the air. "What's going on Ash?" asked May. Ash told Latias and Latios to let the kids go and then he explained to Max and May that the kids kept on talking nonsense about that he wasn't suitable to battle Norman. "But Dad wants to have a gym battle with Ash" said May. "Yeah and anybody has the right to battle with him" said Max. "You're right about that" said a voice.
The voice belonged to a twelve year old kid with brown hair and grey eyes, and by the boy's side was an eleven year old boy with green hair and ice-blue eyes. "It's Brendan Birch and Wally!" gasped Rose. Ash and the gang had heard about Brendan and Wally from Prof Birch, so they knew that Brendan was Prof Birch's son. And Wally was Brendan's friend. "What brings you here to Petalburg City Brendan and Wally?" asked Rose. "We were just passing by when we heard and saw the commotion," answered Brendan "Wally and I met up with Norman yesterday and he told us about Ash and the gang. He also told us that he couldn't wait for Ash to arrive at his gym for a gym battle". "That's exactly what I was trying to tell these kids," said Ash, crossly, "honestly all this, out of jealousy, just because Brock, Tomo and I are travelling with May and Max". Rose understood the situation and she made all the kids apologize to Ash. "Just make sure this doesn't happen again," said Ash "because I'm sure that Norman won't like it if you keep terrorizing those who wish to challenge him". The kids apologized for their behaviour and the grownups made them promise not to do what they did with Ash again. Then all the fans went back to their homes, leaving the gang with Brendan and Wally.
Ash thanked Brendan and Wally for backing him up. "Think nothing of it Ash," said Brendan "I'm glad we showed up before any more trouble started". "I can't believe that you have a Latias and a Latios Ash" said Wally, who couldn't keep his eyes off the eon pokemon. "Yeah somethings happened" said Ash. "So what are you two doing back here in Hoenn?" Max asked Brendan and Wally "last thing I heard about you two was that after you finished competing in the Hoenn league a year ago you went to a different region for a journey". "That's right we did," answered Wally "but we decided to come back here to see our families for a while". "I understand that because I always go back home to see my mum after I finish a journey" said Ash. "Yes me too," said Brendan "truth is she worries about me and my dad all the time, especially when dad is on one of his research trips". The gang understood that, after all Prof Birch had the habit of getting into trouble with wild pokemon all the time. "I must ask you Ash," said Wally "are you going to use Latias and Latios in your gym battle with Norman?" "I'll be using Latias yes because Norman asked me to challenge him with Latias," said Ash "but Latios isn't ready for a gym battle yet; he's still getting used to battling trainers at the moment". Brendan and Wally asked the gang if they could join them at the gym; truth is they were interested in watching Ash using Latias in the gym battle. The gang saw nothing wrong with that and agreed to let Brendan and Wally join them.
So with all the troubles over and done with, Brendan, Wally and the gang made their way towards the southern part of Petalburg City, where Ash could battle Norman.
It wasn't long when the gang made it to Max and May's house. Caroline and Norman welcomed Max and May at once, as well as Ash, Tomo, Brock and Wally and Brendan. "Well Ash, I take it you are ready to battle me right?" asked Norman. "You bet I am," answered Ash "and I am going to earn this gym's badge". May felt excited about this because she had never watched her dad's gym battles before, but she felt nervous for Ash because she knew that her dad was strong. "I can't wait to see how this battle will turn out" she said. "I know how it will turn out; dad will win of course" said Max. Max didn't exactly believe that Ash had the skill to defeat dad; he too had heard about his dad being a very strong gym leader.
Ash and Norman took their places on the gym's battlefield and Rock, Tomo, may, Max, Brendan and Wally sat down on the gym's seats. Caroline joined them too because she wanted to watch the match between Ash and Norman. Norman's gym assistant, Kenny, became the referee and he declared the match was a three on three pokemon battle and then he told it to begin.
Norman sent out a Slakoth to battle with first. Slakoth was the pre-evolved form of Vigoroth. Ash sent out Combusken to battle. As Slakoth was a normal type, Combusken was a good choice because it was both fire and fighting type. "Okay Combusken let's start off with peck" said Ash. Combusken ran towards Slakoth to peck it, but Slakoth dodged it. Combusken tried again, but Slakoth dodged the peck attack again. "I can't believe that Slakoth is able to dodge like that" said May. Norman ordered his Slakoth to use shadow ball, which hit Combusken. "Okay Slakoth use blizzard" said Norman. Slakoth blew a strong blizzard attack at Combusken. "That Slakoth knows some pretty good moves" said Brock. Ash ordered Combusken to fight back with flamethrower. The flamethrower overpowered the blizzard attack and struck Slakoth. "Now Combusken use sky uppercut" said Ash. Combusken struck Slakoth hard with sky uppercut and then Slakoth fainted, earning Ash the first victory. "No way, dad's Slakoth lost" said Max, in disbelief. "It's all right Max, the battle is just getting started" said Caroline. "That's right," said Brendan "the battle will start to get harder now".
Norman returned Slakoth and sent out Vigoroth next. "We better watch out Combusken," said Ash "Vigoroth can be real fighters". Combusken understood. "Start it off with scratch Vigoroth" said Norman. "Counter that with crush claw Combusken" said Ash. Vigoroth and Combusken were going at each other with their claws. "What a fight," said Wally, who was impressed, "Ash is quite a battler". "I agree with you on that Wally," said Brendan "I have never seen a pokemon trainer like Ash". "Let me tell you something;" smiled Brock "Ash is the type of trainer that you should never underestimate". Combusken and Vigoroth kept on going at each other with their claws, but then Vigoroth managed to strike Combusken with its scratch attack. "Now use your crush claw Vigoroth" said Norman. Vigoroth struck Combusken hard with crush claw, and then Combusken fainted. This was clear to Ash that Norman's Vigoroth was indeed very strong. Max was excited that Vigoroth won this round.
Ash recalled his Combusken and sent out Dustox to battle next. "Uh will Dustox be okay going against Vigoroth?" asked May, who thought that using Dustox was unusual. "Well it is true that bug pokemon aren't very strong against normal type pokemon," said Brendan "but I'm pretty sure that Ash knows what he's doing". "Yeah he'll do one of his surprising attacks" agreed Brock. Ash ordered Dustox to start things off with psybeam. "Quick doge that Vigoroth" said Norman. Dustox kept on firing psybeam and Vigoroth kept on dodging the attacks. "Okay Vigoroth use flamethrower" said Norman. Vigoroth blew a flamethrower attack and Dustox quickly dodged it. Ash was surprised that this Vigoroth knew how to use flamethrower. "Okay use sludge bomb Dustox" said Ash. Dustox fired multiple small blown blobs from her mouth and Vigoroth got hit by them. "Fight back with flamethrower Vigoroth" said Norman. Vigoroth blew flamethrower again, and this time Dustox got hit by it. "Oh no, quick use moonlight Dustox" said Ash. Dustox glowed white and then she healed herself a bit. "Okay, let's fight back with toxic". Dustox released a purple stream of liquid from her mouth and Vigoroth got hit and became poisoned. "Ash is showing off his Dustox's poison type moves well" said Wally. "Yeah especially since Dustox is part poison type" said Brendan. Vigoroth was getting hurt by the poison by the second, so Norman decided to try and finish this off now. "Use flamethrower Vigoroth" he said. Vigoroth blew another flamethrower attack, and this time Dustox got hit directly by it and fainted. But then Vigoroth suddenly fainted too; the poison was too much for it to go on any longer. So now both Ash and Norman were down to their last pokemon.
Ash returned Dustox and took out another pokeball. "Hey Norman I've kept the promise" he said. He sent out Latias. "I have been waiting for this moment of battling your Latias Ash" smiled Norman. Brock, Tomo, Max, May, Brendan and Wally couldn't see to this battle, especially since Ash was using Latias. Caroline couldn't wait to see this last battle either. Norman's last pokemon was a pokemon that looked like a gorilla. "That's dad's Slaking!" said Max, excitedly.
Tomo looked at Slaking on his pokedex: Slaking, the lazy pokemon. The evolved form of Vigoroth. The world's laziest Pokémon. When it is lounging, it is actually saving energy for striking back.
"That Slaking doesn't look lazy to me" said Tomo. He was right; Norman's Slaking was pounding its chest a lot, eager for a fight. "It must be all energized up then" said Brock. Ash commanded Latias to start off with mist ball, and Slakoth got hit by it. "Okay Slaking use focus punch" said Norman. Slaking punched Latias rather hard. "You okay Latias?" asked Ash. Latias was not beaten yet. "Okay Latias use steel wing". Latias' wings glowed white and then she struck Slaking multiple times with steel wing. "Slaking fight back with scratch" said Norman. Slaking fought back with scratch while Latias was still fighting with steel wing. "Man this is a good battle," said Brendan "and Norman's Slaking is doing well against a legendary pokemon". "Yeah, and Latias is putting up a good fight too" said Wally. Ash told Latias to use psychic, and Slaking was lifted off into the air. "Now use giga impact Latias" said Ash. While Slaking was still being held in the air, Latias' body became surrounded by orange and purple streaks and then she flew into Slaking. Slaking got really hurt by that attack and fainted. So Ash was the winner of the gym match.
Ash hugged and stroked Latias happily for winning the match, and returned her for a rest. Norman thanked his Slaking for a great battle. Then Norman thanked Ash for a great battle and handed him the Balance Badge. The Balance Badge was black and white and in the shape of a well-balanced barbell. Brendan and Wally both agreed that, that was a great match and so did Brock and Tomo. "Latias did great for her first gym battle" said Brock. May was amazed too that Ash defeated her dad and Caroline thought it was a great battle too. The only one that wasn't happy about this battle was Max; he couldn't that his dad lost. It seemed Max thought that his dad was supposed to be undefeatable. "I won't accept this battle!" shouted Max, and he ran off in tears. "What on earth is wrong with Max?" asked May, who was speechless at Max's behaviour. "He's upset because Norman lost the gym battle," explained Brock "the truth is my little siblings and I once acted like that when we all saw dad lose a gym battle for the first time. And our dad had to explain to all of us that it doesn't matter whether the gym leader loses or wins and other things like that". "So what should we do about Max?" asked May, worriedly. "I'll talk to him" said Norman. He told everyone to wait in the house; he wished to talk to Max alone.
Max was sulking in a big greenhouse what belonged to Norman. "I can't believe it," he said, tearfully, "dad is supposed to be undefeatable. Ash only won because he used Latias; it wasn't a fair fight". "Yes it was Max" said Norman. Norman had entered the greenhouse to talk to Max. "Max losing is important as winning," said Norman, a bit sternly, "losing a battle teaches a gym leader just like it teaches pokemon trainers, as well as helping them get stronger. It was not only Latias that helped Ash win the match, both his Combusken and his Dustox helped out too, and Ash and his pokemon gave me the best pokemon battle that I ever had. And I could also tell that Ash is indeed a strong trainer with or without legendary pokemon. Listen Max I don't care if I win or lose; I just enjoy being a gym leader no matter what". Max listened to Norman carefully and understood that his dad was right. He wiped away his tears and apologized to his dad. Norman was happy and relieved that Max now understood and they went back into the house where everyone was waiting for them.
After everything was settled, Norman and Caroline suggested that the gang stayed the night. Of course the gang agreed, especially May and Max because they wanted to talk about what had happened on their journey so far. Norman and Caroline also asked Wally and Brendan if they wanted to stay too, but Brendan and Wally declined the offer. Brendan explained that he and Wally were heading to Little Root Town. "If I don't go home soon, I think my mum would burst from waiting for me to arrive home" he chuckled. Everyone understood so they said good bye to Brendan and Wally. "I hope we get to meet again soon Brendan" said Ash. "Same here Ash" smiled Brendan. So Brendan and Wally set off for Little Root Town, while the gang spent the night in May and Max's house.
A lot of things happened with the gang ever since they left Petalburg City for their next destination. First the gang had visited a place called the forbidden forest. It was called that because it was really a nature preserve for grass type pokemon. The villagers, who guarded the place, explained that long ago people went overboard with catching the wild grass pokemon and they nearly destroyed the forest in the process. So the forest was boarded up and it had been forbidden for people to ever go in there. But while the gang was there, a group of poachers snuck into the forest to grab some grass pokemon. But the gang bravely fought off the poachers with their pokemon and the forest became safe again. In the process May bonded with a female Bulbasaur and captured it for herself. Next Tomo had come across an abandoned Numel, a fire and ground type pokemon that looked like a camel, and caught it for him-self. Last of all the gang had run into Jessie, James and Meowth again, who were planning to try to steal their pokemon again. The gang ended up battling Team Rocket with their pokemon, and in the process Ash's Poochyena and Zigzagoon evolved into Mightyena and Linoone. So lots of things did happen, and right now the gang were taking a rest at a pokemon center. Their next destination was a town called Rubello Town and there was a pokemon contest being held there the day after tomorrow. Rubello town was fifteen miles from the pokemon center, so the gang had time to relax for a while.
Ash was enjoying some food, when suddenly he got a telepathic message from Mewtwo. 'Ash I have located Rayquaza and I must see you at once' said Mewtwo. 'Okay well I'm at a pokemon center that's fifteen miles from a town called Rubello Town' said Ash. 'Okay I'll head over there but make sure we can speak where no one can see us' said Mewtwo. 'Okay' said Ash. After finishing the telepathic messaging, Ash went outside the pokemon center and into a wood where no one could see him. The others were preoccupied with their own business and Pikachu was playing with Growlithe, so they didn't notice Ash's disappearance.
Mewtwo soon arrived and he found Ash easily. "What happened?" asked Ash. 'I found Rayquaza in space, and I told him everything of what you told me about Team Aqua and Team Magma and their desire to control Kyogre and Groudon' said Mewtwo. "I take it Rayquaza was not happy with that" said Ash. 'You're right he wasn't', said Mewtwo 'he said that the humans are foolish to try and control Kyogre and Groudon'. "So it's obvious that Groudon and Kyogre are both very powerful and dangerous pokemon," said Ash "did you also ask Rayquaza if he would help us, if Team Aqua and Magma find Groudon and Kyogre?" 'Yes he did,' answered Mewtwo 'and he asked me to give you this'. Mewtwo presented a green orb to Ash. "What is this?" asked Ash, taking the green orb from Mewtwo. 'That is the jade orb, it has the power to control Rayquaza' answered Mewtwo. Ash couldn't believe his ears. "Team Aqua and Magma once said that they were looking for the red and blue orbs before, which means those two orbs must have the ability to control Groudon and Kyogre" said Ash. 'Rayquaza said to use the jade orb to summon him if Team Aqua and Magma succeed of summoning Groudon and Kyogre' said Mewtwo. Ash understood. "Mewtwo I am going to need your help too when that time comes as well," said Ash "especially with taking down Team Aqua and Magma". 'I will gladly help you in any way I can Ash,' said Mewtwo 'do you want me to return to my master ball now?' "Not yet," said Ash "you continue flying through Hoenn a bit more. And I'll call you when I do need your help". Mewtwo understood and then flew away.
Ash went back to the pokemon center, where the others were waiting for him. "Where had you been Ash?" asked Brock. Ash told the others that he wanted to speak to them somewhere privately, so they all went into a room of the pokemon center. "What's going on Ash?" asked May. Ash presented the jade orb to the others. "Mewtwo found Rayquaza," said Ash "and this jade orb has the ability to summon and control Rayquaza". He also told them that Rayquaza had agreed to help them if Team Aqua and Magma succeeded of obtaining Groudon and Kyogre. Brock, Tomo, Pikachu, Growlithe, May and Max were fascinated by this. "Shall we tell Officer Jenny or Prof Birch about this?" asked Max. "No we shouldn't," said Ash "we must keep this all a secret. If we tell anybody, someone from Team Aqua or Team Magma might find out, so word of me having the jade orb must never get out. Agreed?" "Agreed" said Brock, Tomo, May and Max. Since the gang knew that Team Aqua and Magma were trouble, they all agreed to not say anything about the jade orb and Rayquaza.
I'm really sorry for the long wait; I was stuck with another story. I don't know about any of you but seriously Ash didn't stand up to the fans that much. I find it a pity that the gang never met Brendan or Wally in the anime. Ash will meet Lucas in the Sinnoh region. Ash's Latios will battle in the gym battle against Juan. The gang will meet up with Brendan and Wally again later.
