Chapter Thirty-Nine
Kenpachi Z's POV
I looked around the Seireitei and grumbled, this place was supposed to be crawling with something worth challenging. But what do I fucking get? Completely empty streets! I can't even find my way around this place so how am I supposed to find the strongest fighter? "Kenny, when will we get there?" Yachiru whined in my ear. She's a pain in my ass half the time but what the hell would I do if I did not have her around? "We're here already!" I almost snapped. "Well, how come there's no Soul Reapers anywhere?!" she whined a little louder and I tensed up, she was really getting on my nerves. "If I knew do you think I would be standing around here?!" I demanded heatedly, as I turned to try to get a good look at her. The only thing I could see was an up-close view of her nose. She suddenly lifted herself to where she was leaning over my shoulder. "Hey lady! You know where we could find a Soul Reaper?!" she suddenly shouted in my ear.
Realization hit me and I turned to look at the person my kid was looking at. It was a woman. She did not look like she was much of anything worth my time, but what the hell? Better than nothing. She simply smiled at Yachiru and turned serious when she started on me, "What are you two doing here?" "Kenny wants to find a Soul Reaper to fight!" Yachiru explained excitedly. I just stared. The Soul Reaper woman raised an eyebrow. "Well you found one." she stated matter-of-factly and looked me over before commenting, "And your pop's over here isn't exactly looking too good, Kiddo. I don't beat up on weak people. I just boot them out."
I could not help but to smile, women were cute when they act tough. And this one carried herself like she was in charge. "You don't say?" I questioned as I gripped the hilt of my sword while suggesting, "Then in that case, let me show you what I can do." The woman looked at me as if she were trying to figure something out, I guess I must have looked familiar or something. Whatever! I charged at her and swung with half as much force as I wanted to and her sword blocked mine. I heard the blade crack under the pressure and her legs were shaking. "You were just bluffing me, weren't you?" I critiqued. Her face said it all, she got scared quick. There was something else on her face…awareness. The woman suddenly kneed my… "Fuck!" I exclaimed as I fell to my knees, shouting at her, "That was low!" She backed out of my reach before I could grab at her. What's with this crazy—
"Stand down, Ukitake!" a voice barked causing her to look away. "Captain! Sir!" the woman shouted, standing up straight. Captain? She was just an underling? Of what division I wonder. I noticed the captain make his way towards us demanding, "Who is this?!" "Kenpachi of Zaraki, Sir!" she announced. What the Hell?! How did she know that?! "Kenny, do you know her?" Yachiru questioned me. I did not really care, she brought me the captain. I did not want to move, either her knee was bony or she packed a hell of a kick. "What's wrong with this…" the captain paused and smirked as he continued to question his subordinate, "Kenpachi Zaraki?" "I hit his... Pride, sir." the woman admitted. "More like fightin' dirty." I growled getting to my feet and decided to stay put due to the throbbing pain. "Dirty?" The captain questioned and preached to me, "You're a mere child to think that there's such a thing as a 'clean fight'." "Get down." I ordered Yachiru who jumped down yelling, "Okay Kenny, have fun!" She ran to the Ukitake woman and pulled on her arm asking, "How do you know Kenny?"
"Heather!" a man yelled on the top of his lungs as he dashed towards the woman. He was a captain by the looks of his clothes. The man held my previous challenger and shook her shoulders yelling inanely, "Are you out of your mind?! Didn't you feel that pressure?! What's going on?! Are you alright?! " "A young buck is trying to challenge me, Ukitake. Your wife was not in any danger." the woman's captain assured boastfully. Wife?! Don't tell me there was a man crazy enough to pin her under him! "Ha!" I laughed dryly and added, "All you've done so far is try to lull me to sleep. Your girl did the damage. So quit runnin' your trap, and fight me." I stumbled a little as I tried to get to my feet. I was still in a lot of pain, did that woman wear shin guards or something?! The captain looked at me with a skeptical expression.
I straightened up and did my best to dash in his direction. I was fast but not as fast as I thought I would be. He side-stepped my charge and slashed at my shoulder. I grimaced for a moment. "Go Kenny! You can do it!" I heard Yachiru cheer me on. I stood up straight and turned to my opponent and blocked his blade. "You know who I am, so who are you?" I questioned the captain. He laughed haughtily and replied with a question, "You mean you don't know?! I am the captain of the Eleventh Division, Kenpachi Kiganjo!" I smiled widely and retorted, "Then you're the bastard I've been looking for." Kiganjo made a face and readied his zanpakutō again. We seemed to have gained a lot of attention because I vaguely noticed a large crowd gathering around us. Kiganjo did not even make as much as a twitch in my direction. Lazy ass; he was thinking he was going to keep countering me. Like Hell was I going to keep making petty attacks.
Now I might was well get serious. He was not getting his head in the game so I was going to make him play along. I charged at him again, putting more force into my swing. He tried to block. The energy that I put into my blade paid off when I cut his the moment when our weapons made contact. I looked up to his face and seen his expression, he was scared witless. Pah! This guy is not even worth my time, let alone his title. Before I allowed him anymore time to think, I swung again. Blood splattered on my face as the blade of my sword cut at his throat and nearly beheaded the long-winded moron. He fell to the ground and I straightened up then turned to look for where my kid went. She was near the Ukitake woman yanking on her arm with excitement. "You're next!" I called to the woman and walked toward her, she could have cost me that fight. The other captain got in between the two of us with a scowl on his face. "Haven't you done enough?" Captain Ukitake questioned fiercely. "It ain't my fault your battleaxe got in the way!" I hollered. Ukitake looked downright pissed off and just as he was about to yell back I heard a voice call out. "No, Kenny!" Yachiru wined, "Don't hurt Boss Lady, I like her!" That took me by surprise. I looked to the woman and was greeted with a humored expression and a raised eyebrow. "Whatever, I got more important things to do." I replied before turning back to the captain I killed and tugged the haori off of the corpse. "Ya coming or what, kid?" I hassled Yachiru and felt her land on my shoulder.
