Vio
Before following Gray, Vio and the other Links took a moment to put on their Pegasus boots. There was no way they would be able to keep up without them. By the time he started running, Gray and the bulblin were already out of sight. As he rounded a bend in the path, which thankfully didn't have any sharp turns, Vio slammed his heels into the dirt and skidded to a halt, yelling, "Stop, stop! There's a gate!" The others piled behind him, Green almost knocking him over.
"Whoa!" Green yelped, flinging out his arms for balance. Vio grunted and started clambering over the iron fence. He hadn't been expecting obstacles on the otherwise open path. He figured that Gray and the bulblin had just jumped right over it. Every second wasted let those two get farther and farther away. Without waiting for the others to get over, Vio raced off again, following the path until it met a large field. There he stopped again, this time for a different reason.
In the distance, he could see Gray still chasing the oversized bulblin, who had somehow managed to tie Colin to a stick and was waving the poor kid around like a flag. Surrounding and weaving around Gray was about ten more bulbos, each with two normal-sized bulblins on their backs. Unfortunately for Vio and his counterparts, there were too many enemies around to use the Pegasus boots effectively. The boots, while fast, were not very maneuverable. With the way the enemies were weaving all over the field, it would be near impossible to get anywhere. Gray seemed to be holding his ground okay, but he also wasn't getting anywhere either. Every time he focused on knocking down bulblins, the large one started getting away. If he focused on reaching the large bullblin, the other ones just recuperated and started to harass him again. Vio supposed it wouldn't have been as bad if half of the bullblins didn't happen to be shooting flaming arrows. As it was, Gray had been very lucky not to have gotten hit by one yet.
"What do we do?" Red cried.
"Well, we can't just stand here and do nothing!" Blue shouted, unsheathing his sword.
"Hang on, I've got an idea," Vio watched as Gray finally got a good hit, smashing two sets of bulblins off of their steeds for good, one squealing as it tumbled over a cliff. He pointed at the two ugly, newly riderless steeds. One of them had even started eating grass, oblivious to the chaos around it. "We ride those."
~/_\~
"Um, Vio? Are you sure about this?" Green asked tentatively. Somehow, they had managed to avoid getting trampled underfoot racing across the field to get to the two boars. Now that they were there, the beasts seemed much larger than they had farther away. The top of Vio's head barely reached above the bullbos' shoulders. The one he was next to snorted and pawed at the ground.
"If it's our best shot, I'm doing it," Blue declared, clambering onto the one that had been eating grass. Green seemed a little reluctant, but he climbed on behind Blue. Vio nodded and got on the other, Red bouncing up behind him.
"This is gonna be fun!" he cheered.
"Just try not to fall off," Vio said, kicking the bullbos in the sides. It grunted and started forward. Vio immediately knew he disliked the creatures. It was a terribly bumpy ride, and even worse, the beasts smelled nasty. Vio didn't even want to think about the last time they had been washed. Its grimy fur was short and coarse, and Vio was thankful for the thick saddle that protected his legs. Next to him, Blue kicked his bullbos, shaking the reins and urging it to go faster.
"Waaaagh!" he and Green yelped as it reared, squealing loudly as it dashed forward. Green and Blue were reduced to clinging on for dear life, legs flying in the air as the only things keeping them on was their hands. Green made a girly shriek in shock, quickly grabbing Blue around the waist to hang on. Vio would have laughed at the sight, except he knew he was about to do the very same thing. Closing his eyes and gripping the reins tightly, Vio kicked his own boar. It squealed and shot off like an arrow. Vio screamed incomprehensively as he desperately tried to cling to and steer the bullbos. Behind him, Red was having the time of his life, laughing madly. Well, at least Vio knew someone was appreciating the situation. Personally, he had officially decided that he truly hated the smelly animals. If he had to ever ride another again, it would be entirely too soon. Finally getting his legs back around the beast, he managed to get in control somewhat. It was stubborn and didn't much like doing what Vio wanted it to, but when he started yanking, it finally decided to follow along.
"Red!" he shouted over the thundering of hooves, "When we get close enough, start taking the smaller bulblins out! Leave Gray the big one!"
"Okay!" he reached into his pouch and pulled out his fire rod.
"Don't use that! You'll burn the entire field down!" Vio yelped.
"It's what I've got! Besides, the bullblins are already using fire arrows! What's a little more?"
"Fine," Vio grumbled, "Just be careful!" He knew that one wrong blast could destroy everything or put them in more danger, but Red was right; it was the best weapon he had at the moment*, so he decided to try and ignore their possible impending doom and focus on steering instead. Beside them, Green was tossing his boomerang left and right, smacking opposing bulblins in the head. Vio ducked suddenly as he heard an ominous click, and a hot stream of fire shot to his left.
"Got them!" Red cheered, almost falling off. Vio sighed in relief. They hadn't destroyed anything, yet.
Soon they had the bulblins under control and Vio began to relax a bit. After the first few streams of fire, he got used to the idea and the bulblins weren't too hard to take down after that. Ahead of them, there was a sudden, sharp squeal. It seemed Gray had finally gotten a good hit on the lead bulblin. It flopped over dramatically as its steed kept running, heading straight for a large bridge. Vio narrowed his eyes. The entrance of the bridge was blocked off with a wooden gate. The bulblin straightened up, leaping its bullbos over the fence. Gray followed immediately when he realized it was escaping. Vio pulled his boar around and raced for the bridge, but was too late. Bulblins sitting on top of the arch shot flaming arrows at the fence, causing it to burst into flames. It was a trap. His bullbos panicked, racing wildly away before slamming headfirst into a worn-down old wall. Vio and Red went flying over its head and landed in the grass.
"Are you guys alright?!" Green jumped off of his own boar and ran to them. Dazed but alright, Vio stood and nodded.
"I'm more worried about Gray," he pointed back to the bridge. There, they saw Gray at the opposite side of the bridge, wheeling his horse around to face the large bulblin. They raced at each other, Gray swinging his sword and the bulblin laughing as it tried to ram its steed directly into Gray's. Gray veered out of the way, missing with his swing. It was like watching some form of messed-up jousting, Vio decided. He winced as they made another pass, Epona almost getting run over this time. Thankfully, Gray managed to land a hit, but it was a shallow one. The bulblin barely flinched, wheeling around for another go. It continued for another few tense rounds, but thankfully, Gray managed to somehow get a good slice. The bulblin flinched away, overbalancing and falling off of its boar and the bridge, tumbling over the edge into the lake below. Epona skidded to a halt, but the bullbos kept going, racing to the end of the bridge. It smashed through the flaming fence with a squeal before bolting away. Vio, Red, and Green all yelped and jumped aside as the beast smashed into the same wall that Vio and Red's had. The stick Colin was tied to went flying, though Colin thankfully had a softened landing, because he smacked straight into Blue who also then tumbled off of his boar. Blue groaned as he stood up, taking out his sword and cutting Colin loose as the others ran over.
"Are you guys alright? What about Colin?" Gray asked worriedly as he approached.
"We're fine, and Colin's okay too. Just a couple of bruises," Green said. Gray sighed with relief.
"Um, guys? What are we gonna do about the fires?" Red asked. Vio looked up, noticing a number of small fires, burning chunks of wood, and smoking grass all over the field. He sighed.
"We'll figure something out."
*As (I think) I have stated before, the FSA Links have all of the items you can get in the game, but items that each individual character received in the manga are exclusive to them. As such, Vio has the bow, Blue the hammer, Green the boomerang, and Red the fire rod and slingshot (I've decided that he won't have the ice rod. It would make some things too easy). The items they share are: bombs, Pegasus boots (L2), roc's feathers, lanterns, and shovels. As for why Red used the fire rod and not the slingshot or sword; well, he has to hold onto Vio with one hand, which negates the slingshot. The sword would just be too short. The FSA Links are short. Their swords are an appropriate length for that. As such, their reach isn't nearly as far as Gray's is. The opposing bullbos would have to be almost touching theirs in order for his sword to be very effective.
