Ash's Pokemon Journey

Summary: This story is about how I think that ash's journey should have gone through, Kanto, Orange Islands, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh and Unova. Smart, a psychic and an Aura user. I do not own pokemon.

Note: I am not doing the Kalos Region. So fairy pokemon and Mega Evolutions don't exist.

Daybreak Contest

And a Big Day for Monferno

Some days later the gang finally made it to Daybreak Town. Dawn was really pumped up because of her desire to earn her fifth ribbon here. "Come on everyone we are going to do some final training for the contest tomorrow" said Dawn to her pokemon Cyndaquil and Mamoswine. "You going to try and master the flame ice combo again Dawn?" asked Ash. Dawn had been trying to master the flame ice combo for a while now but she still hadn't mastered it. "Don't forget to check out your other moves too Dawn" said Brock. "I intend to perfect all my moves for this contest" said Dawn. "Hey look at that" said Tomo.

Tomo was pointing to a Plusle and Minun. "Um are you okay Dawn?" said Ash, remembering how Dawn used to be scared of Plusle and Minun before. "It's okay Ash," said Dawn "thanks to Tomo and his Plusle and Minun I've overcome by fear of them. The only thing I fear of is them making my hair all sparkly like a diamond". Of course Dawn still hates having her hair all wrong.

The Plusle and Minun turned out to be Ursula's new pokemon. Ursula had come to Daybreak Town for the pokemon contest too and like Dawn she needed one more ribbon for the Grand Festival. "Well, well, well," said Ursula "fancy me having to face you in a contest again Dawn. With my new Plusle and Minun I will get the fifth ribbon before you Dawn". "That's what you think" said Dawn. Dawn wasn't going to let Ursula defeat her so easily.

Later on that day Dawn was having a bit of trouble with Phione. Phione wanted to be in the contest with Buneary, but Dawn wasn't sure if it would be a good idea. There were no rules saying legendary pokemon aren't allowed in a pokemon contest. But Dawn was worried about the attention using a legendary pokemon would cause. "I think you should let Phione enter this time Dawn;" said Ash "all of your pokemon, except Phione, has had a chance of entering a contest but Phione hasn't. And you have practiced with Phione so it will be okay". "Yes but" said Dawn, worriedly. "I used my Latios and Latias in some contests and the grand festival in the Hoenn region and it didn't give me trouble at all," said Ash "so there's no way you'll get any trouble either". "And anyway Phione really wants to enter a contest for once, especially with Buneary" said Brock. Phione called out as if to say 'that's right'. Dawn stared at Phione and then sighed. "Okay but remember Phione no showing off and do exactly as I say alright?" she said. Phione said yes and was happy it was going to be in a contest at last. So Phione and Buneary were going to be in the appeal round and Cyndaquil and Mamoswine were going to be in the battle rounds.

Next day came the pokemon contest. Ash was sitting in the seats with Brock and Tomo as he wasn't participating in the contest. Marian gave the usual introductions and then showed off the Daybreak ribbon. The Daybreak ribbon was purple with lavender outlines and had a big pin. Not only was Johanna watching this on TV, but Zoey and Candice were watching the contest on TV too; they were watching it in Snowpoint City. Dawn was in the waiting room with Piplup; he wanted to stay with her for comfort and confidence. Her dress was the same as it was from the beginning but she wore small white gloves, with a small ribbon on each glove, and there was a small yellow rose on each of her shoes. "Well Piplup I have come a long way since I participated in the Hearthome contest," she said "and I've won and lost a few contests along the way to here. But now my skills with you and the other pokemon have sharpened up and the levels have gone up too. So I am ready for this, this time". Piplup chirped in agreement. Dawn got Phione and Buneary's pokeballs ready immediately.

It was soon time for the contest to begin. One by one the contestants did double performances with their pokemon. Soon it was Dawn's turn and she sent Phione and Buneary out with star seals. Everyone was amazed to see the legendary pokemon Phione. "Phione let's start off with bubble beam" said Dawn. Phione released a lot of bubbles. "Buneary use ice beam" said Dawn. Buneary froze the bubbles with ice beam, making them like big balloons. "Now Buneary use bounce" said Dawn. Buneary jumped onto the frozen bubbles one by one, while playing a tune of do, rei mi. It was an adorable sight. "Now Phione and Buneary let's go" said Dawn. Together Phione and Buneary spun around while popping all the frozen bubbles, making a lot of icy-blue sparkles. "She's going to make it into the second round for sure this time" said Ash, who liked the performance. Brock and Tomo thought so too. Ursula was up next and she sent out her Gabite with a flower seal, and then she sent out another new pokemon on her team, a Jigglypuff, with a heart seal. Jigglypuff jumped onto one of Gabite's claws and spun around like a ball. First up Jigglypuff continued rolling like a ball while Gabite used its arms to juggle Jigglypuff. "Gabite use iron tail" said Ursula. Gabite used iron tail to flung Jigglypuff into the air. "Now Gabite use stone edge and Jigglypuff use hyper voice" said Ursula. Gabite released a lot of stones and Jigglypuff destroyed the stones with hyper voice, creating a shower of white sparkles. "Jigglypuff use gyro ball and Gabite use sandstorm" said Ursula. Gabite created a lot of sand onto the stage and Jigglypuff dived at the sand while using gyro ball, creating a beautiful rainbow coloured glow. "Time to finish this up," said Ursula "Gabite use dragon claw". Jigglypuff spun onto Gabite's claw while it's claw was glowing from dragon claw, and then Jigglypuff stopped spinning and posed. Everyone was amazed by Gabite and Jigglypuff's performance, even Ash, Dawn, Tomo and Brock were impressed; Ursula had indeed trained all of her pokemon well.

While the results were being waited for, Ash, Tomo and Brock went into the waiting room to see Dawn. "Dawn you, Phione and Buneary were great out there" said Ash. Dawn smiled. "I feel a lot more confident with double performances now" she said. It was true; she felt more confident with herself ever since the Hearthome contest. "Now it comes to the double contest battles" said Brock. Just then Ursula walked up and she started doing her usual insults at Dawn. Dawn just took no notice. At that moment the results were up and Ursula and Dawn made it to the second round long with six other contestants. "Just so you know I'll be using Plusle and Minun," smirked Ursula "and I can't wait to battle you".

The battle for the fifth ribbon between Dawn and Ursula was about to begin.

It wasn't long till the battle rounds started. Ursula was up first with her Plusle and Minun and they proved to be hard to beat. Plusle and Minun both had the move helping hand, which raised each other's attacks, and they knew how to attack their opponents in real sync mode. Plusle and Minun defeated their opponents in the first round without even trying. Ash, Brock and Tomo couldn't help being impressed with how Plusle and Minun attacked together, neither did Dawn.

Soon it was Dawn's turn and her Mamoswine and Cyndaquil were up against a Mightyena and Houndoom. Mamoswine and Cyndaquil were doing really well and at the moment Dawn was winning. "Alright let's show what we've been training for" said Dawn. She was planning to do the flame ice combo, but the flame wheel just broke the ice apart even though Cyndaquil did hit Mightyena and Houndoom good. "Doesn't look like the flame ice combo was successful again huh" said Ash. He understood by now what Dawn's flame ice combo was supposed to do after watching Dawn try to master it lots of times before. Dawn won the battle, but she was still disappointed with the failure of flame ice.

In the waiting room Mamoswine and Cyndaquil tried to use flame ice again, but it still didn't work. "I think this may take more time for you to master the flame ice combo Dawn" said Ash. Brock suggested Dawn should put flame ice on hold and rely on moves she could do now. Dawn really wanted to use the flame ice combo in these contest, but she knew Brock was right. Ursula, who had been spying, smirked, thinking that she was going to win this one.

Dawn and Ursula continued defeating their other opponents until the final round came. They were going to face each other. Of course Ursula wasted no time of making fun of Dawn, telling her she wouldn't be able to beat Plusle and Minun. Dawn wasn't going to let Ursula's words beat her; she believed in Mamoswine and Cyndaquil and she was determined to win her final ribbon this time.

It was soon time for Ursula and Dawn to have their battle in the finals. Dawn sent out Mamoswine and Cyndaquil with electric seals and Ursula sent out Plusle and Minun with flower seals. Mamoswine started off by doing the swallowing the ice shard tactic and the ice armor appeared. Then Cyndaquil came in by using swift and the stars circled around Mamoswine, creating a sort of shield, and next Cyndaquil jumped onto one of Mamoswine's icicles and let out the flames on his back, giving the icicles a bit of a colour. "Now Mamoswine use take-down" said Dawn. Mamoswine charged straight towards Plusle and Minun. "Now that's a good combination to use" said Ash. Brock agreed. "Plusle and Minun get ready to jump" said Ursula. As soon as Mamoswine got closer, Plusle and Minun jumped out of the way and avoided the attack. The ice and star armor faded after that. "Now use encore" said Ursula. Plusle and Minun both released a white ball of energy and threw it at Mamoswine and Cyndaquil. The two pokemon got hit and their bodies sparkled white.

"Oh no" said Tomo. Encore was one of those disturbing move types, which made a target use the last move it used for three turns. Ash, Tomo and Brock knew exactly what encore was because Ash and Tomo had some pokemon that knew encore. "This is going to be bad for Dawn because encore lasts for three whole turns" said Ash. "And she doesn't have the time to wait for encore to wear off" said Brock.

Dawn didn't exactly know what had happened but she moved in and ordered Mamoswine to use mud bomb and Cyndaquil to use flame wheel. But because Mamoswine had used take down before and Cyndaquil had used swift before, they did those attacks instead of using mud bomb and flame wheel. Ursula smirked and told Dawn what encore is, making Dawn feel a bit uneasy. Next Ursula ordered Plusle and Minun to use helping hand and then she ordered Plusle and Minun to use charge beam. Now even though the electric move didn't affect Mamoswine, being a ground type, he still got put off by the move, and Cyndaquil got hit by the move. "Now Plusle and Minun use spark" said Ursula. Again the electric move didn't affect Mamoswine but he was still getting tackled by Plusle and Minun, and poor Cyndaquil was getting hit by the electric attack too. Dawn was losing more points by the second. Things were looking bad for Dawn and there was nothing Dawn could do right now due to encore.

But something else worse happened for Dawn. Ursula ordered her Plusle and Minun to use spark again and Cyndaquil was sent flying back to Dawn when he was hit by the spark attack; therefore Dawn was also shocked a bit by the spark attack. Her hair became all frizzled and sparkly; it was the diamond dandruff. "Oh no Dawn!" cried out Ash. He remembered the story Dawn told to him and the others before about the incident with Plusle and Minun back when she was a little girl. Ursula thought Dawn's hair looked hilarious. Dawn freaked in embarrassment; this was something she didn't want anyone to see. "Snap out of it Dawn the battle isn't over yet!" shouted Ash. Dawn was so embarrassed she didn't even want to move. But then she heard Mamoswine and Cyndaquil calling out to her, telling her not to give up like they haven't yet. Dawn stared at her pokemon and realized that her pokemon can still move; just can't do attacks. She stood up and sorted out her hair at once; she had a plan.

"Cyndaquil use swift on Mamoswine and Mamoswine use take down on Cyndaquil" said Dawn. Ursula, Ash, Tomo and Brock were surprised when they heard Dawn's command. The two pokemon did as they were told. "Why is Dawn making her pokemon attack each other?" asked Tomo "she's just making herself lose points". Tomo's answer came; after Cyndaquil and Mamoswine attacked each other the encore wore off. It was great the encore wore off, but Dawn had to do something if she was going to win the contest because of all the points she's lost. Ursula had Plusle and Minun use charge beam, but Mamoswine defended Cyndaquil by getting the charge beam attacks, and of course the attacks had no effect on Mamoswine. Dawn decided to try and use the flame ice combo again. "You can do it" she encouraged her pokemon. Cyndaquil used flame wheel and Mamoswine used ice shard. This time the ice shard made a diamond shaped orb and Cyndaquil was moving the orb with flame wheel without breaking it apart. They had mastered it at last. Cyndaquil charged at Plusle and Minun and the two electric pokemon were hit, before they had the chance to dodge. Ursula couldn't believe that Dawn had mastered the flame ice combo. Ash, Tomo and Brock were happy for Dawn for mastering it. "Plusle and Minun use spark" said Ursula. "Not this time, Cyndaquil use ember" said Dawn. Before Plusle and Minun could use spark Cyndaquil hit them with ember, breaking the two pokemon apart. Dawn's plan was to keep Plusle and Minun apart from each other. "Mamoswine use mud bomb" said Dawn. Mamoswine used mud bomb and it hit Plusle good. "Now Cyndaquil use ember" said Dawn. Cyndaquil's ember attack hit Minun. Plusle and Minun were getting pushed back good. "We are not finished yet," said Ursula "use spark".

Plusle and Minun were just about to use spark again, but then the time was up. Everyone looked at the time board and saw that Dawn was the winner. So Dawn defeated Ursula again. Dawn was happy with her victory and she hugged Mamoswine and Cyndaquil at once. Ash, Tomo and Brock were happy for Dawn and so was Johanna. Thanks to this Dawn was now confident about double performances at last. Ursula was a bit disappointed with her loss but she hugged Plusle and Minun and thanked them. Though of course she wasn't happy Dawn defeated her again.

Dawn was given the Daybreak Ribbon. Mr Contesta pointed out this was Dawn's fifth ribbon. "We look forward to seeing you at the grand festival" he said. Dawn was happy to have received her final ribbon at last and could enter the grand festival. In the dressing room Ursula pointed out to Dawn that despite she beaten her here, she won't beat her at the grand festival. "We'll see about that" replied Dawn.

Ash, Brock and Tomo congratulated Dawn for her win. Dawn thanked the boys and declared her Daybreak ribbon the best one she ever won. "You mastered that flame ice perfectly and just in time too for the grand festival" said Brock. "So Ash you still need to earn your last ribbon now" said Dawn. "No need to worry Dawn because there will be more contests before it's time for the grand festival," said Ash "but first we need to get to Sunnyshore City for mine and Tomo's eighth badge for the sinnoh league". "Yes that's right" smiled Dawn. So Dawn finally had her fifth ribbon to her delight, and now the gang could concentrate on going to Sunnyshore City for Ash and Tomo's eighth badge.

After Dawn won the Daybreak Town contest the gang were traveling through a small town, when they noticed a small crowd and someone was having a pokemon battle. To their surprise it was Barry. And to another surprise, Barry's opponent was Lucas. Barry was using his Empoleon while Lucas was using his Infernape. "Empoleon use hydro cannon" said Barry. "Dodge it Infernape and use close combat" said Lucas. Infernape dodged the hydro cannon attack and punched and kicked Empoleon lots of times with close combat. "Wow Empoleon is getting a real beat there" said Tomo. "No doubt Lucas has still been training his pokemon" said Brock. "Empoleon use metal claw" said Barry. "Mach punch Infernape" said Lucas. Empoleon and Infernape charged at each other and hit each other with their attacks. Unfortunately for Barry, Infernape proved to be stronger then Empoleon and Empoleon fainted upon defeat. Lucas was the winner of the match and the crowd clapped for him. "Man Lucas," sighed Barry "you and your Infernape are stronger than ever". He had battled Lucas before.

Suddenly Lucas noticed the gang in the crowd. "Ash, Tomo, Brock and Dawn, how are you?" he said to them. "Hi Lucas" said Dawn. Barry was surprised to see the gang too. The gang went into a park to talk with Lucas and Barry. Dawn told them she had her fifth ribbon. "You got all eight badges and five frontier plaques yet Ash?" asked Lucas. "Not yet," said Ash "we are just on our way to Sunnyshore City now for me and Tomo to get our last badges and my final plaque". Lucas frowned while Barry laughed. "Well, well, well it looks like I've beaten you this time Ash" said Barry. He showed off his badge case and it had eight badges in it. "I'm all set for the Sinnoh League" said Barry. "I've got the badge from Sunnyshore City too, which is called the Beacon badge," said Lucas "but I actually challenged it when I got it. Ash there is something I need to tell you about that gym".

To Ash's horror, Lucas explained the gym was just giving away badges without having to battle. "Are you serious?" asked Ash. He remembered Misty's sisters being like that. "I don't know the details, but the gym leader Volkner has stopped doing gym battles and is just giving out the badges" said Lucas. The gang couldn't believe their ears. "Uh Barry did you just take the badge too while you were in Sunnyshore City?" asked Dawn. "Well yeah;" said Barry "not every day you get a gym badge for free". 'Unbelievable' thought everyone else. "Well this isn't right," said Ash, a bit crossly, "when we get there I'm going to ask for a proper gym battle whether the gym leader likes it or not". Ash wanted to earn the eighth badge the right way, not the wrong way.

After their chat the group went into the pokemon center. To Ash's surprise Paul was there. Barry was happy to see Paul at last and introduced himself to him. He even told him he had eight badges all set for the Sinnoh league. Barry asked Paul to battle him but Paul refused. He wanted to concentrate of training his pokemon for the league, and he thought it would be pointless battling Barry. "If you desperately want to battle, battle him" said Paul, pointing to Ash. "Huh?!" exclaimed Barry "no way he has got seven badges so he is a level lower than us". Ash ignored Barry's words. "I heard you got all eight badges Paul, congrats" said Ash. Paul just stared at him silently. "I hope you don't mind me asking but did you go to the Sunnyshore City gym?" said Ash. Paul glared when he heard that. "Humph that gym isn't worth going to," he said "I got my last badge from a better gym". As the gym was giving out badges for free it was obvious Paul didn't want to earn a badge that way. Then he walked away.

Barry couldn't believe how rude Paul and wished to fine him. "You'll see Paul again Barry," said Ash "and besides there could be a good chance you'll battle Paul in the Sinnoh League". "You think so?" asked Barry. "Yes, but if you do battle him don't let your guard down whatever you do because Paul is really good at battling" said Ash. Ash explained about his full battle against Paul. Barry thought Ash was lucky to have had a full battle against Paul. "Even though we tied, Paul nearly beat me I must admit, but my pokemon and I declare to defeat him for sure next time" said Ash. "Well then Ash I will battle you now" said Barry. "Sure, bring it" said Ash.

Suddenly an announcement appeared on the TV. It was a news flash about the grand festival. Marian explained the Sinnoh Grand Festival was going to be held at Lake Valor, where the Wallace up was held. She also explained there were seven more pokemon contests before the grand festival. "See Dawn," said Ash "I told you there were some more contests before the grand festival. So I can earn my fifth ribbon in one of the remaining seven contests". "Absolutely" said Dawn. "Okay then," said Brock, looking at his pokegear, "we'll go over to Sunnyshore City, then Ash can earn his fifth ribbon at one of the places where pokemon contests are held, and then we'll head over to Lake Valor". "I wish you lots of luck Ash and Dawn and I'll certainly watch the grand festival on TV" said Lucas. "Come on can we battle now Ash?" said Barry, getting impatient. The group went outside at once so Ash and Barry could battle.

Barry declared the rule to be a 3 on 3 pokemon battle. Dawn used her coin toss app to see who would go first. Barry chose heads and Ash called tails, and Barry won. Brock agreed to be the referee. Ash and Barry took their places to get ready to battle. Lucas, Tomo and Dawn sat on a bench to watch. "We shall each throw out our pokemon after the count of three" declared Barry. "Okay" replied Ash, taking out a pokeball. After counting to three, Ash and Barry released their first pokemon together. Barry had chosen Empoleon while Ash had chosen Monferno. "I've got the advantage" teased Barry. "Monferno maybe a fire type but that won't put us down will it Monferno?" said Ash. Monferno said no. "Barry is going to have a surprise with this;" said Tomo "especially since Monferno has some moves that are stronger against water type pokemon". "Does Monferno know thunder punch?" asked Lucas "my Infernape knows that too". "Yes actually Monferno does" said Dawn. "Then this will be interesting to see" said Lucas.

Barry started off by telling Empoleon to use hydro cannon. "Dodge it and use mach punch Monferno" said Ash. Monferno dodged the water attack and then punched Empoleon hard with mach punch. "Wow Monferno's fast" said Barry. But he wasn't surprised for long and ordered Empoleon to use drill peck. "Use dig Monferno" said Ash. Monferno dug out of the way before Empoleon could peck him. "Hey no fair for dodging like that" complained Barry. "We're not dodging," said Ash "we're just getting ready for thunder punch". Monferno came out and punched Empoleon with thunder punch. Barry didn't expect that. "That Monferno is really good," said Lucas "I think it may evolve soon at this rate". "Really?" said Dawn. "Absolutely;" said Lucas "I know because I raised my Infernape ever since it was a Chimchar". "That's right" said Dawn, nearly forgetting that. Barry ordered Empoleon to use hydro cannon. "Counter it with bullet seed Monferno" said Ash. The hydro cannon and bullet seed attacks countered each other. Barry and Lucas were amazed to see that Monferno knew bullet seed. "Man I can't believe this," said Barry "but no matter we will win this". He ordered Empoleon to use metal claw. Monferno charged with mach punch; he and Empoleon ended up fighting like they were boxing. "I wouldn't like to get in between those two" said Dawn. "Me neither" said Lucas. "Keep this up Empoleon" said Barry. "Don't give up Monferno" said Ash. The two pokemon pushed each other back with their attacks.

Suddenly Monferno cried out and then he started to glow. "Monferno's evolving" said Lucas. Lucas was right because Monferno evolved into an Infernape. "Wow look at that" said Tomo. Ash was very happy indeed to have seen Monferno evolve. "Infernape show Empoleon your new strength" said Ash. As soon as Ash said that, Infernape charged towards Empoleon and used close combat. "Hey Infernape learned close combat" said Lucas. Infernape had indeed grown stronger.

Just then Barry stopped the match. "I have to confess that Infernape of yours is a great match against my Empoleon," said Barry "that's why I'm stopping this. I see I need to train more before I battle you at the Sinnoh League". "I'll be training more as well before we get to the Sinnoh league so look forward to it". "Are we going to see you at the Sinnoh league too Lucas?" asked Dawn. "Well I won't be competing as I've already challenged that," said Lucas "but I'll definitely be there to watch it all". "But first I'll see you at Sunnyshore City when you challenge my dad at the battle facility" said Barry. "Okay" said Ash. So Ash still had a lot to do.

What no one knew was Paul had been secretly watching the battle and saw everything. In his heart he was hoping to battle Ash again, even though he didn't want to admit it yet.

Sorry for the wait. Sorry if anyone wanted Ash in the daybreak contest, but I insisted of having Ash in the contest Johanna judged. Besides Ash won the double contest at the Hearthome contest. I really don't understand why Mamoswine was effected by Plusle and Minun's electric attacks in the anime; he should've been just tackled by them. Hope everyone liked Phione being in the contest instead of Piplup. Cyndaquil should've known ember in the anime.

I don't know what happened with Barry and Paul at the Sunnyshore City gym, but I have a feeling that maybe Barry didn't battle Volkner and just got the badge for free. As for Paul I reckon he didn't take the badge and went off to another gym to earn his last badge; I don't think he's the type who would want to take a badge for free. I could be wrong about this but hey I don't know because it didn't really show in the anime and Barry didn't say he battled the gym leader, not really. I thought I should have Ash know what's happening with the gym now.
