Nico's POV

The 'party' as Annabeth had put it had gone without a hitch. At first, Percy looked pretty damn shocked to see the entire damn gang at his front door, wearing apologetic grins and holding a big cake with the words 'We're sorry' on it.

After his recovery, his old self immediately took over. It was so fast and so swift that we were the ones stunned when his face broke into a humongous grin.

"You didn't need to do this guys. I never blamed you anyway. However, since there's cake, come on in! I'm starving!" Percy exclaimed, the usual lively twinkle reentering his eyes as he said it.

His response was so out of the world, so unimaginable… and just so Percy-like that all our fears and worries just melted away. Our apologetic grins were replaced by bright, excited smiles, as we all knew that Percy had already forgiven us.

There was one particular moment that caught all our attention and caused a little bit of tension, though it was resolved quite quickly and if possible, made the atmosphere even lighter.

"Percy, I'm really sorry about all of this. It was my fault, even if I can't remember it," Rachel said, her head down in shame.

By then, the entire place was silent. All eyes were upon the two of them standing there, one with her head down and the other staring straight at her.

Slowly, he lifted his hand and reached for Rachel's chin. All of us tensed up. Was he going to hit her? Had he not forgiven her?

However, he did something none of us expected. He gently lifted her face up by her chin, causing her to look at him. Her eyes were watery and her face was filled with something close to fear. Fear of what she would see.

All that fear washed away from her face when she saw Percy looking at her with a soft smile. The hurt was still in his eyes, but something was different about him. It was as though he had accepted it and come to terms with it. He was ready to move on.

"It was never your fault. Micheal was to blame. From what I heard, you sure gave him a heck of a beating!" He grinned with playful sadism, which caused us all to chuckle at him, the tension leaving the air.

"But I can't even remember you!" Rachel exclaimed. I could see the guilt haunting her tired eyes. Percy's smile didn't falter.

"Yes, but there's nothing you can do about it. It also isn't your fault that you lost your memories either. Don't feel guilty or worry about me, Rachel. I've gotten over it. I'm just happy you can live happily now without Micheal there to play with your feelings."

After those words, I could see Rachel's entire body relax, as though the weight of the world had been on her shoulders, but had been lifted away from her. Tears had streamed from her eyes, but she was smiling and laughing and sobbing at the same time that all of us laughed at the strange sight.

At the end of the day, al of us left the house feeling as light as a feather, with a skip in our steps. No longer was the weight of guilt and condemnation resting on our shoulders. We left happily, contented, with the determination to never ever doubt Percy ever again.

However, as I kissed Thalia goodbye and shook Percy's hand- the first time ever- I could tell that even though he had recovered, the grief and sadness that Rachel had forgotten all about him would forever be etched in his heart.

Once again, I wondered just how much grief, sorrow and burdens did Percy carry. He had always kept his problems to himself. He had never willingly shared them with anyone unless he was forced to.

We didn't even know anything about his family, his past, anything.

My eyes caught sight of the pale, white scars on Percy's arms. At that very moment, a dark, sinister thought had entered my mind.

Percy had always had scars all over his body. When I had met him all those years ago, he already had scars all over his body.

When I had questioned him about his scars, he just smiled and grinned proudly as he called them "scars of war from training with the sword".

He had always given this reason to anyone who asked him. No one doubted him, seeing his unbeatable swordsmanship. His proud look convinced us more that he really had trained hard in swordsmanship. Even Annabeth didn't question him as she had no doubts that he got it all from training.

That's why it never crossed my mind till now. I had never inspected his scars closely till now. It struck me that it was the first time I was shaking his hand in eight years.

As I focused on his arm, my eyes widened as I saw something like words peeking out from his shoulder sleeve.

"S.K" Were the initials I saw as I closed in on the letters.

When I had asked him about those letters when, something immediately shifted inside him. Nothing on the outside changed. His smile was still in place and his body was still relaxed.

No, it his demeanor that changed. Chills ran up my spine as I suddenly felt an ominous, deadly aura all around the place. I froze almost immediately. A millisecond later, the aura disappeared into thin air, as though it never existed.

"Hm? Oh, this? I kind of gave this scar to myself. It represents something important to me," Percy explained in a light tone, pulling down his sleeve.

"You should get going now Nico. Your family would we worried if you stay too long. I'll see you tomorrow!" He waved.

Sensing that the short conversation was finished and that Percy would not give anything away, I merely waved back, shot my last grin at Thalia and walked home.

"S.K," I muttered under my breath as I walked to Percy's house.

"Wonder what that means."

That very day, someone joined the school. Everything changed after that, and S.K was soon explained.
