johnny was really dead.

the realization hit.

there was a hand waving in front of dallys face. "earth to dallas winstonnn" sodapop said, receiving a blow to the face by dallas' fist. soda held his cheek where dally had punched him, and the rest of the gang stood there in shock.

darry stood in front of soda "what the hell dallas?!" darry started, and soda put a hand on darrys shoulder. "he's in shock, dar. it's alright."

"get out." dallas mumbled under his breath, the pale blonde stared at the white wall in front of him. not daring to make eye contact with anyone in the room.

"what was that dal?" steve asked, swinging an arm around his best friends shoulders.

"get out." the hood stated louder through clenched teeth. "now."

"but-" ponyboy started

"NOW" dallas yelled, the anger blazing through his cold, hatred filled eyes. darry nodded and ushered everyone out, following them out last. soda poked his head in the door before closing it "if you need us just say somethin." and the sandy blonde haired greaser shut the door.

dally fought against the tears that threatened to spill from his eyes. he couldn't cry. he didn't cry. dallas winston never cried, no matter what, especially not when someone died. dallas winston never gave two f*cks about anyone. ever. except johnny. johnny was the only one who managed to get under dallys electric wired fence that he put up around himself.

johnny made dally feel.. worth something. he loved the dark haired kid to death, and now he was gone. god if dallas had sent ponyboy and johnny somewhere else other than the church this wouldn't have happened. maybe he and johnny could've been heading to the dingo right about now, grabbing lunch and talking.

johnny.

dally remembered meeting johnny for the first time. it was an odd day for dally really.

-

15 year old dallas was on his way to the Curtis' home, walking in the middle of the road for some reason. he passed by a dark alleyway, where he heard low voices.

"p-please just leave me alone i-i'll get out of here i promise.." a young boys voice quivered.

"no no no grease, we're gonna give you a little makeover huh." an older teenagers voice said.

normally, dallas would just snicker and pass by, letting whoever was jumpin the poor boy get on with it. but, he felt the need to do something. he peeked into the alleyway and a small boy was cornered by two socs, all bigger than him by a lot. the small boy had dark skin, bruises and cuts all over him. he was wearing a small jean jacket, he had dark eyes with black bangs covering one of his eyes. he looked like a scared puppy. he was so... helpless. he reminded dallas of himself when he was that lost a few years back, before he tuffened up.

the 15 year old blonde stepped into the alley "hey leave the kid alone" he snarled, stepping towards the socs crowding around the scared kid.

the three boys turned towards dallas, and the little boy looked at dally with those scared dark eyes.

"whatd you say? it sounded like a hood-" the soc with dark brown hair spat extra hatred out with the word 'hood' "-said something."

"i said, leave him alone." dallas grabbed one of the socials by the front of his shirt and stated through clenched teeth "pick on someone your own size for once."

the cowardly soc looked around scared and then socked dally right across the face, this of course, broke out a fight of 2 on 1.

dallas jumped on the taller socs back, making the soc collapse. dallas proceeded to slam the socs head into the concrete a few times and rolled off the soc. the tall soc got up, head bleeding, and he scrambled off. 'weak' dallas thought and turned to the soc with dark brown hair and popped him a good one in the mouth. the soc went to punch dally in the throat, but dallas grabbed his wrist and twisted, hard. the dark brown haired boy whimpered and tried pulling away, kicking dallas in the stomach. dally let go and pulled his blade. the soc looked frightened by dally and scrambled off after his friend.

"man those weak a*ses. you really that weak kid?" the blonde huffed, pulling out a cigarette and lighting it up as he turned to the small boy, who was frozen in fear. "kid!" the hood hissed louder in his gruff new york accent. the dark haired boy flinched and jumped up.

"i- um- thank-"

"don't mention it kid. seriously, don't mention that to anyone or i'll have your head."

the boys eyes widened and he nodded quickly.

"jesus christ they got your arm pretty bad there kid, you're bleedin everywhere" dally pointed out, gesturing to the boys bleeding arm.

"o-oh. um. i'm- im okay." the black haired boy muttered.

"no that needs treated before ya get an infection, c'mon c'mon i'll take ya to my buddies and we'll clean you up." the blonde couldn't understand why he was being so nice to the kid. he just felt instantly connected with him and a need to protect him no matter what. dallas walked out of the alleyway while the boy hesitated behind.

"well? you comin or what?"

"o-oh yea" the small boy followed dallas out and they began continuing dallys journey to the Curtis'.

"i never caught your name, kid." dallys new york accent blurted out.

"oh. uh my names j-johnny.."

"dallas." dally nodded at him.

"dallas." johnny repeated, looking at the ground.

"how old are ya johnny?"

"i-i'm 14."

"nice, i'm 15" dally smirked, and they continued a conversation all the way to the Curtis' house.
