Dr. Facilier and Ursula arrived at the Forbidden Mountain. As they made their way to the castle, Ursula spoke with Facilier about Maleficent and how something was suspicious about her when she talked to her back at her lair. Facilier didn't understand what she meant, and Ursula mentioned that Maleficent just didn't seem completely like herself. Facilier was still befuddled, so Ursula just decided to drop the subject when they arrived in Maleficent's throne room.
The Mistress of All Evil sat before the two villains, stroking her bird, Diablo, thoroughly.
"So, how may we serve you, oh Madame of Evil?" Facilier asked, giving a courteous bow.
Maleficent arose from her throne approached the two. "Golett has a special request for you two," she said. "You see, those meddlesome princesses could arrive back at any moment. And if they have those crystal scepters, it could potentially ruin our plans."
"So what do you suggest we do?" asked Ursula.
"My guess is that they have found a reasonable number of those scepters by now, so what Golett needs is for the two of you to create a shadow monster that will track down the energy of the scepters, find those princesses, and get rid of them," said Maleficent.
"Consider it done," Facilier said with a sinister smile.
"Wait, I thought you said finding a scepters would not be anything to worry about," said Ursula.
"Well my love has decided that he doesn't want to take any chances," said Maleficent.
"My love?" Ursula and Facilier said in confusion.
Now Ursula more than once saw Golett occasionally flirt with Maleficent, but could Maleficent have really fallen for him? No, that couldn't be possible. Maleficent was not that easy. Something was definitely fishy. But regardless, Ursula, along with Facilier, agreed and left on their way.
Back on Aledenia, Pocahontas searched through the castle walls, hoping to find King Gregory so she could find out why he sent his guard to attack Samuel. She had thought that her and the king had come to an understanding, so possible motivation could Gregory have had so basically going back on his word?
Pocahontas figured the best place to start looking first would be his throne room, so she decided to make her way there. However, once she got there, she discovered he wasn't. So she continued with her search. Upon her searching through the halls, she was met by a young white woman with long red hair and wearing a purple and gold gown.
Pocahontas figured by the look of her that she was someone who hung around the castle, so maybe she would know where the king was. "Excuse me? Do you know where King Gregory is?" she asked.
"Father? He left the castle a moment ago," the young woman said.
"King Gregory is your father?" Pocahontas asked quizzically.
"Yes. I am Princess Medela. Who may I ask are you?" the young woman said.
"My name is Pocahontas," Pocahontas said.
Before she was about to head on her way, Pocahontas figured maybe of all people, Gregory's daughter could tell her why he was so racist and cruel to the people of the island. He seemed like a rather kind and benevolent ruler, so why would he have such resentment towards his own people? She approached the king's daughter and asked her.
And indeed, the princess did know. In her royal quarters, the princess and Pocahontas sat down to a cup of tea and Medela began telling the story of her father.
In the kingdom of Aledenia, a young, red curly hair youth scurried happily through the walls of his castle, heading towards his parents room. With every bit of his might, he pushed the doors and bounced onto his parents bed.
This was a common thing, but the boy's parent's didn't mind, for they loved that the boy's huge bright eyes were the first things they saw every morning.
The father, a thin gentlemen, with a long red beard, held the enthusiastic child. "Let me guess, you wanna go for a walk out in the kingdom, right?" he said to his son who nodded.
The mother, a stout woman with curly blond hair, tickled the child on the tummy. "Well aren't you just an anxious little rascal, aren't you, little Gregory?" she said to her son.
After getting themselves ready, the king, queen, and their son, Gregory, left the castle. Gregory loved walking out in the kingdom during the morning and saying hi to everyone. One of the things he liked was the smell of freshly baked cinnamon buns. Aledenia's cinnamon buns were considered to be the finest in the world and Gregory loved them. Every time the past the bakery, Gregory's parents always made sure they got him one and every time he ate one, he always got a little or more frosting on his face.
Yes, Gregory was his parents most valued treasure and they were the most beloved rulers of Aledenia.
One day, during one of their walks, Gregory and his parents encountered a blond mother and father with a tiny blond headed boy. As the king and queen were talking with the dignitaries, Gregory and the young boy eyed each other brightly.
The young boy's name was Samuel. The parents introduced the two boys to each and a friendship was instantly formed. Samuel and Gregory would play together as often as they could; playing hide-and-seek, pigging out on cinnamon buns, and getting messy. The two boys formed a strong bond like no one else.
But then...
One day...
Something happened that would change not only their friendship, but the course of Aledenia's history.
A few years later, a group of dignitaries arrived at the island. One group was from Russia, and the other were Indians. They had come discuss a trade proposition which would involve the distribution fine goods to Aledenia.
A large group of people had gathered to see the dignitaries arrive and greet the king and queen...
Samuel was recovering well enough from his injuries. However, his arm still stung at points. He was though able to get back on his feet and decided now was as good a time as any to leave.
But as he came outside the ship, he was met by Snow White who expressed concern as she he dropped to one knee, holding his arm.
Snow White rushed over to the wounded Samuel. "Are you alright? You should stay in bed," she said.
"I'm fine. Takes more than an arm to stop me," Smithers said as he got to his feet.
Samuel had seen Snow White with Pocahontas before so he figured she was a friend of hers which prompted him to ask her exactly why Pocahontas was bothering with him considering all the things he had said to her.
"Oh well, that Pocahontas is just so patient and kind. She's always been like that. She never gives up on trying to find a peaceful way to settle things. And she doesn't care weather you're white or dark or tan or even copper, she sees all as equals," Snow White said before she walked off.
As Samuel departed from the ship, he contemplated Snow White's words, thinking back to that one day...
A group of dignitaries, both Indian and from Russia, arrived to discuss a trade proposition with Aledenia. This proposition would means the trade of gold, silver, and other fine materials to Aledenia while the two factions received the island's finest resource, platinum, which was used to make the island's weapons.
As the dignitaries discussed the matter with the king and queen, a teenaged Samuel and Gregory went out, hitting on virtually every girl on the island, only to get rejected. One even threw a cinnamon bun at them.
The two had been best friends since childhood.
During their escapades, Gregory talked to his friend about how he was excited to one day become the king of the island. He only hoped he could be as good as his mother and father.
The dignitaries had been on the island for the past couple of days and things seemed to be going well between the parties. However, the next day, the citizens of the island gathered to discover the terrible news that the queen had been murdered. Her body was found in the hallway of her castle and next to it was a tomahawk; a weapon typically used by an Indian.
The same night, Samuel and his parents were walking home when they were encountered by a shadowy figure. They couldn't make out who he was, but saw that he carrying a tomahawk. Samuel's parents told him to hide someplace safe and he watched in horror as the cloaked figure killed his parents.
Based on this evidence, the Russians assumed it must've been the Indian who killed her. The citizens of the island agreed.
However, the king, heartbroken as he was, didn't jump to conclusions.
But Samuel backed up the claim of the Russians, using the death of his parents as proof.
Despite this, the king stood his ground. From this, the Russians concluded that the king must've been in cahoots with the Indians all along; wanted to take out his own wife so he would have share the traded goods with her. Samuel agreed with the statement, the anger of losing his parents driving his judgment. The citizens were shocked by the Russian's words, but they did make some sense. Gregory defended his father, shocked that his longtime friend would accuse his father of such a thing...
Just opposed, Princess Medela continued to tell Pocahontas the other side of the story.
For the next few days, the relationship between the king of the people were not the same. They eyed him with distrust, some with disdain.
The same was said for Gregory and Samuel. Over the debate of his father's innocence, their friendship gradually faded as their differing opinions heightened. Samuel had grown to hate Indians and people of most other races due to the death of his parents. As for Gregory, he grew impatient with Samuel's racist rants and for that matter, all of the citizens' as well. He grew to hate them all.
Gregory's father began to notice this as well. He could not have Aledenia ruled by a king the people did not trust. Even though he felt he was innocent, he knew that it was in need of guidance and obviously, he wasn't the one to give it, so with a heavy heart, his father stepped down as king of Aledenia and passed the title over to him, his only son. After bestowing his son with his title, he took his leave from the island, but not before telling his son to be a fair and just ruler.
But over the short time he began as king, Gregory saw that the kingdom below him was not something he could be fair and just towards. These people, the same one that believed the accusations, the ones that drove his father away, had evolved into racist hypocrites. They accused his father of being a coward and running away. It finally dawned on him that these people could not change no matter what, so if they were gonna act that way, why should he treat them with any kind of respect?
From that point on, he taxed, abused, and mistreated the people of Aledenia. And because of this, his friendship with Samuel had all but deteriorated. Their relationship was never the same again.
Never before had Pocahontas heard such a sad story of an island divided and a friendship broken. It was amazing to think what racism over what could've been a misunderstanding could cause. Of how such a thing could severe a bond between two best friends such as Gregory and Samuel and turn them into enemies. This reminded her so much of when the settlers came to Jamestown. She also remembered what Gregory had told about how people like them couldn't be changed and also thought of what John Smith had once said to her about how simply talking would not solve everything. In the back of her mind, she began to think that maybe those words had some merit. So far, nothing she had done was solving anything. Neither of Gregory's or Samuel's minds had been changed, so it looked as though the situation was pointless. At that very moment, as she began walking out of the princess's room, Pocahontas actually considered finding her friends, getting on the ship, and leaving, but then, she remembered how she kept her ground and kept her courage. She quelled the path of hatred then, so why couldn't she do it now?
After thanking Medela for the tea, the Indian princess rushed out of the castle to find the king.
She decided to search from the rooftops, seeing that she would get a better view. As she searched, she spotted Samuel, still injured, heading towards the forest. She didn't like the fact that he was up and about with his injuries.
"Samuel!" Pocahontas shouted.
Samuel heard Pocahontas' shouts, but could not make where they were coming from. Pocahontas shouted for him again as she attempted to jump to another rooftop. However, she lost her balance and slipped down the roof, falling and knocking her head on a window on the way down. Samuel heard the sound of a thud near where he was and went to investigate. Over in the alley, he spotted Pocahontas lying on the ground, holding her head in pain.
"Pocahontas!" Samuel shouted as rushed over to her.
At this moment, Samuel was conflicted. Why did he care if an Indian was hurt? Why would it matter to him? He wasn't sure why as just stood over the near unconscious princess.
Just then, Gregory and four of his men conveniently arrived at said alleyway.
Gregory's eyes filled with rage as he saw Samuel standing over the injured Pocahontas. "So, you're not contempt with just defying me, now you choose to bully an innocent woman?!" he said.
Samuel tried to plead his case, but the king would have nothing of it and ordered two of his men to take him to the castle before he rushed to Pocahontas. Heartbroken, the king ordered his other two men to take Pocahontas to the castle for medical attention. Pocahontas tried to explain what had happen, but Gregory insisted she keep quiet and save her strength.
For a couple of hours, Pocahontas lay unconscious, being tended to by Gregory's servants when she finally awoke. Holding her head and slowly opening her eyes, she noticed Princess Medela standing next to her. She could barely remember anything from before she fell off the roof, she only remembered that she was trying to talk to Samuel and then the King found her and carried her to the palace.
"Medela? Where's Samuel?" Pocahontas asked.
"Father took him to the village square," Medela answered.
"Why?" Pocahontas asked.
"He has sentenced him to be publicly executed," Medela said.
Pocahontas gasped in shock before she leapt out of her bed. Although she was still a bit woozy, she knew she couldn't let that stop her. She had to get to the town square and stop King Gregory despite the princess and the servants recommendations to stay in bed, concussion or no concussion.
The other princesses along with Feemer and the good fairies met back up with each other in the village. They all had been all but driven crazy by the fact that they couldn't find Pocahontas or Samuel when to their relief, Pocahontas herself approached them, however not in the best shape as she fell to one knee.
Merida and Mulan rushed over to help her up.
"Pocahontas!" said Flora.
"Are you alright, dear?" asked Fauna.
"I'll be fine, but I have to get the village square," said Pocahontas.
"How come?" asked Merryweather.
"It's Samuel, King Gregory is gonna kill him! I have to stop him!" Pocahontas said.
"Pocahontas, no! You're obviously in no condition to be stopping anyone!" Merida protested. "Besides, what do you see in that jerk that's worth saving anyway?"
"...someone I once knew..." Pocahontas said before she rushed off.
"That girl's gonna get herself killed!" Tiana said.
And with that, the rest of the gang pursued Pocahontas to the village square where a group of citizens gathered as Gregory's men carried Samuel over the center of the square where Gregory stood with a sword in hand. The parents covered their children's heads for they knew what was about to happen.
And so did Samuel as he stared at the sharp, shining blade of the sword. Realizing his fate, he couldn't help but think that this all happened because he attempted to show compassion to Pocahontas; a savage. And now it had gotten him here.
The guards placed Samuel on his knees as the king stood before him, pointing the sword at his shoulders.
"Samuel Smithers, you stand here...or stand here bent on your knees, accused of doing bodily harm to the fair Pocahontas," said Gregory.
"It wasn't me!" Samuel said.
"LIAR! I know it was you! And so for your crime, in addition to the many crimes you have committed against me, I hereby sentence you to death!" said Gregory.
The king of Aledenia raised his sword high into the air. Samuel closed his eyes solemnly and tilted his head down, preparing himself for the inevitable. With rage in his eyes, King Gregory thrust his sword down to deliver the finishing blow, only to be stopped, by Pocahontas, who embraced Samuel in her arms.
"Pocahontas?" the king asked befuddled.
"If you kill him, you'll have to kill me," Pocahontas said.
"Pocahontas, stand back!" Gregory said.
"I won't!" Pocahontas said.
The citizens of Aledenia stood in shock. Why was Pocahontas, an Indian, helping a white man.
"Listen, this is where the path of racism and hatred has lead you two! Think about you mother and father, Your Highness, what would they think?! Do you really wish to disgrace their name any further?! Is this really the path you want to choose?! We all have a place in this world, all of us. All of us are connected one or another. Think of what your mother and father wanted for you, think of how you and Samuel used to be such good friends and you can be again if you just stop all this! You can be the king these people need!" Pocahontas said.
As he stared into the resolved-hardened eyes of the Indian princess, King Gregory reflected on the words that his father said before he left. Truthfully, he had thought about it many times before, but his own self-doubt clouded his judgment. But as he looked out to the inhabitants of the island and then at the man who was once considered his friend, he thought of the positive impact his parents had left on them and of Pocahontas' words. And with a deep sigh, Gregory placed his sword to the ground.
"Men, release him," Gregory said.
With that, Gregory's men released Samuel and the two stared at one another. As they looked into each other's eyes, they reflected the times of their childhood; all the adventures, misadventures and wacky hijinks they got into. Pocahontas stood in the middle and placed a hand on each of their shoulders, giving them both a smile of encouragement. Slowly, the two shook hands, before they smiled. It was as if an old friendship was rekindling.
The next day, King Gregory provided the gang with supplies for their journey. Before Pocahontas headed for the ship, she was met by Gregory and Samuel who came to see her off.
"Thank you for the extra supplies, Your Majesty," Pocahontas said.
"It is us who should be thanking you, Pocahontas, for opening our eyes," said Gregory.
"Especially mine," said Samuel.
Gregory stopped mistreating the people of the island and taxing them unfairly. From that point on, he decided he was going to be the best king Aledenia had ever known, just like his mother and father wanted him to be. And also, he planned to rekindle his old friendship with Samuel.
After being thanked again, Pocahontas bid a fond farewell to the king and Samuel before heading for the ship.
The family whom Pocahontas had rescued earlier were one of the observers and their child rushed over to her, tapping her on the leg. Pocahontas turned and bent on one knee to the child who cautiously inched towards her. Pocahontas lifted her palm towards the child who at first was a little scared, but took his hand and placed on hers. Feeling secured, the boy walked up to her and the two shared a hug.
Pocahontas then lifted the boy up and returned him to his parents before heading back to the ship.
As the ship took off, Gregory, Samuel, and all the people of Aledenia waved goodbye to the good fairies, Feemer, and the princesses, especially the one who had changed their lives.
Just then, Samuel turned to Gregory. "Hey since we're buds again, you wanna..." he started.
"...get some cinnamon buns?" Gregory finished.
"Last one there's a rotten egg!" Samuel as he rushed off.
"And the last one there eats that instead!" Gregory said as he chased after Samuel.
From the ship, Pocahontas watched with a smile as two who were separated for so long by misunderstanding and racism were connected again. Just then, she was met by the gang.
"Well done, Pocahontas," said Flora.
"Oh I didn't do anything," Pocahontas said.
"She's right, she didn't," said Feemer.
"Oh hush you!" said Merryweather. "Of course you did!"
"Yes, dearie! You brought peace to an entire island and on top of that, you brought two friends back together," said Fauna.
Suddenly, a brownish glow was emanating from the ship. It was coming from the crystal scepter. Belle had a theory and as she inched it towards Pocahontas, it glowed brighter. "Well, well, well, I wonder who this could belong to?" she said sarcastically before the crystal scepter floated towards Pocahontas.
So now the gang had the third crystal scepter and it had chosen Pocahontas as its owner. Though Pocahontas didn't feel like she did much; she only did what she felt was right and it ended up helping a whole lot of people.
With a smile, she climbed to the top of the crow's nest with her hair flowing in the wind and looked up the rising sun, signifying the coming of a new day, which of course meant a new adventure for her and the gang.
