A furious Merida stormed towards the king only to be halted by his guards. "What do you mean, there WON'T be another challenge?! Tiana already won-I mean LOST the...FIRST challenge!" she shouted.
One of King Vegle's servants tossed him a small red book that read, 'Upsy Turvy Topsy Daisy Book of Rules' in gold letters. The king turned the book upside down and read from it.
"The rules don't state; the king may not change the rules on the fly if he does not wish," the king read.
"What?! But that's no-grrr-that's fair!" Merida protested with aggravation.
"That is not our way," King Vegle said.
Merida gritted her teeth and quickly drew out her sword. At this point, she had had just about enough of King Vegle's upside down rules.
The other princesses gasped for they had a feeling what Merida was gonna do and it wasn't gonna be good.
Vegle's guards stood in front of Merida with their spears in hand, but the Scottish princess stood firm, tightly grasping her swords with anger in her eyes.
Sensing a conflict, Pocahontas and Belle, along with Tiana, stepped in front of Merida to try and calm her down.
"Merida, stop!" Pocahontas said, pushing Merida back a couple of steps.
However, the incensed Merida pushed past the two, ready to strike.
Tiana then held her back. "Girl, listen. Fighting is not gonna solve this and it's not gonna get us that scepter!" Tiana said.
Merida pointed her sword up to the king. "No, I'll get us the scepter by sticking my sword right up his..."
"But that's not gonna help anything!" Tiana protested.
"She's right, Merida! Please calm down!" Belle said.
"No!" Merida shouted as Belle and Pochontas tried to hold her back. "I've had enough of this king and his backwards rules!" She then pointed her sword again at the king. "Do you have any idea what we've had to go through to get these things?! DO YOU?!"
Truth be told, the other princesses were growing frustrated as well. With the rate of how things were going, they couldn't help but if they were even going to leave the island with the scepter.
Holding her back, Tiana pleaded with Merida to hold her attack. "Listen! I get it! I do! But that's just their ways!" she said.
Just then, with her words, Tiana had an epiphany from which she formed a idea. She again pleaded with Merida to stop, giving her a firm look. Reluctantly, with a flare of her nostrils, Merida withdrew her sword.
The good fairies, Feemer, and the other princesses breathed a sigh of relief.
As Pocahontas took Merida back, Belle looked over to Tiana. "Are you sure about this?" she asked.
"As sure I've been about everything else," Tiana said unassured.
Belle placed a hand on Tiana's shoulder before going back.
Of course, to be completely honest with herself, Tiana wasn't entirely sure her plan would work, but for right now, it was the best one she had. Taking a deep breath, she stood before the king.
"Tiana, are you not ready?" Vegle asked.
"Ye-I mean, no!" Tiana said, correcting herself.
The rest of the group looked on with concern, hoping that Tiana knew what she was doing because at this point, it was pretty much all or nothing.
"Don't worry, dears. Tiana's come this far, I'm sure she'll pull through. I have faith in her," said Fauna.
"So do I!" said Merriweather.
"As do I," said Flora.
"For all our sakes, I hope you're right," said Feemer.
Tiana hoped the same thing as King Vegle was about to announce the next challenge.
"Now, for the FIRST challenge!" Vegle began. "Tian-"
"Wait!" Tiana interrupted, much to the crowd, Vegle, and the group's shock.
"Um...what is she about to do?" Mulan asked, inching over to Snow White.
"I'm sure she knows what she's doing...I hope," Snow White answered, trying to keep a face of certainty.
The king, meanwhile, was as much surprised as he was shocked. He had never been interrupted before. Yet at the same time, he was intrigued. The guards had their spears ready to reprimand her, but he ordered them back and allowed Tiana to continue.
"No, Tiana?" the king asked.
Tiana breathed a sigh of relief, cleared her throat, and composed herself. "Um...without Your Majesty's permission, I would not like to change the first challenge," she said.
For a moment, the crowd was silent with shock at Tiana's proposal. This was the first time they had ever seen something like this transpire.
As for the king, he looked down firmly at Tiana from his throne.
Tiana did the same thing, holding her ground, and trying her best to keep her hands from shaking.
"Permission...NOT granted," said the king.
"Yes..." Tiana said to herself.
The rest of the group had no idea what Tiana was planning, but whatever it was they could only hope it worked.
"So, what isn't your challenge?" the king asked.
"I'm not going to ask you a question and you will not have one minute to answer," Tiana said.
"Hmm...very unwell. Don't proceed," said Vegle.
Tiana cleared her throat and proceeded to ask her question. "What IS my name?" she asked.
Vegle was surprised by Tiana's question.
"Clever girl," said Feemer.
Vegle only had a minute to think of an answer, so he just guessed, coming up with multiple potential names included; 'Cindy,' 'Ashely,' 'Tina,' Samantha,' and 'Gerdy.' But they were all wrong to which she answered, 'yes.'
He tried another. "Jerry?" he guessed.
Tiana's face soured. "Really? That a guy's name, err, NOT a guy's name," she said in annoyance.
The king continued to guess, but each answer was wrong. The king began to get frustrated as the seconds went by. He kept on guessing until Tiana stopped him.
"Time is not up!" Tiana proclaimed with a confident smile. "You...win."
Vegle was left dumbfound by the outcome of Tiana's challenge. In one moment, he felt confusion, frustration, and astonishment, all at once.
The crowd sat silently, awaiting the king's response.
"Tiana...you...have LOST the contest!" King Vegle announce.
The crowd showered Tiana with boos, which of course meant that she had won.
The other princesses and the good fairies jumped with joy and rushed over to Tiana, all embracing her at once.
"You did it!" exclaimed Aurora. "Or should I say DIDN'T do it!"
Tiana chuckled.
As the group continued to congratulate Tiana, King Vegle exited from his throne.
"How did you think of that question?" asked Flora.
"I just thought outside the box. Like ya'll have been tellin' me," said Tiana
The king approached Tiana and the group with an impressed grin across his face. "You mean you didn't think outside the box? Right?" he asked.
"Oh, right. Of course I did-er, didn't," Tiana blustered.
"You certainly did not," said King Vegle. "Using a question that I could answer, that was certainly not clever. And for that, it is with great embarrassment that I herby not award you with this."
One of Vegle's servants gave him the scepter which he proudly presented to her.
"Good work, dearie. Oh! I mean, bad work, dearie," Fauna said with a giggle.
The scepter glowed as Tiana triumphantly held it in her hands.
A majority of the members of the Evil Empire assembled in the main hall of the castle. Golett had called them all, including his three soldiers for a meeting.
Shan Yu puffed up his chest with pride. Thanks to Golett's Shadow Demons, his men had claimed the Emperor's palace in China and thus left the emperor at his mercy, reducing him to a lowly servant and having do degrading things such as serving them food and using him as a table and making him dress as a court jester and dance.
Jafar just sneered. "Been there, done that," he said to Shan Yu, mockingly.
The Hun leader growled at the royal vizier who just smirked back.
"Ugh! Men," groaned Ursula.
"Forever caught in a battle of egos," Lady Tremaine concluded.
The two ladies smiled at each others while Shan Yu and Jafar turned their backs to each other in a huff.
"I know. It's just disgraceful," said Gaston, agreeing with Ursula and Tremaine.
The two just rolled their eyes at Gaston's hypocrisy.
Meanwhile, Facilier tapped his cane impatiently. "Does anyone know why we've been called here?" he asked. "I don't know if ya'll noticed, but Golett DID NOT sound too happy when he called."
"Really? Is that why he was shouting and bellowing? I didn't notice," Grimhilde said sarcastically.
"While he's here, maybe I could convince him to do something about those accursed Shadow Demons. They've become a bothersome bunch," said Jafar.
"Indeed. Last week, they were messing around with my potions and cauldron. I haven't been able to cast a decent spell in peace." said Ursula. "Not to mention them being rude to my little poopsies."
"'Poopsies'?" Facilier asked.
"Floatsome and Jetsome! My Eels! Do you have a problem with that?!" Ursula with gritted teeth.
Facilier backed up, not wanting to offend Ursula anymore than he already did.
Most of the other villains seemed to have the same opinion when it came to the Shadow Demons.
Grimhilde barley had any time to look at herself in her magic mirror due to the demons playing around with it all the time. They had messed up most of Anastasia and Drizella's clothes, much to Tremaine's dismay; they were overtaking Gaston's favorite tavern, drinking all the beer, and Ratcliff was just annoyed by their antics.
"You fools need to stop complaining!" said Shan Yu. "We have the Kingdom, we have the power, so what's the problem?!"
"Yes, but it would be nice if the conditions were a little less aggravating," said Ratcliff.
Gothel was the second to last of the Empire to arrive.
"Fashionably late, dear?" Ursula asked, scoffing.
"Relax. I'm here, aren't I?" said Gothel.
"With all the jewelry you bought, it's a wonder you haven't gained a few extra pounds," Ursula said with a chuckle.
"Said the giant, flabby, octopus," Gothel retorted, poking at Ursula's gut.
All that remained for the villains was the arrival of Maleficent and Golett. Whatever the meeting was about, they didn't want to be too long and go back to whatever relaxation they could get.
While she had Maleficent on the mind, Gothel brought something to the other villains' attention. "Have any of you noticed something odd about Maleficent?" she asked.
"What do you mean?" Shan Yu asked aggressively.
"I mean she doesn't seem like herself lately," Gothel answered firmly. "The times I've seen her, she has this blank stare. Almost as if she's in a trance."
"What? Like a spell?" Facilier pondered.
"Exactly," Gothel answered.
"Now that you mention it, she has been acting quite strange. Not to mention, she can't seem to stray more than three inches away from Golett," said Ursula.
"It is probably nothing need concern us," said Grimhilde. "Maleficent is too powerful to be controlled by a spell."
"She has a good point," said Tremaine in agreement.
"True, but ya'll have seen the kind of magic that big player has, right? His is on a whole 'nother level," said Facilier.
"It would stand to reason that maybe even Maleficent, as powerful as she is, would perhaps fall prey to mind control if it were powerful enough," suggested Jafar.
Obviously, some of the villains seem to agree with Gothel while some were still skeptical. However, they didn't have much time to ponder as Golett arrived in the main hall, accompanied by a rather stoic looking Maleficent.
As expected, Golett was not in the best of moods as he furiously paced back and forth with Maleficent trying to comfort him.
Suddenly, Gothel felt something spank her on the butt, almost like a whip. She turned to see Venomis, hissing with laughter at her, much to her dismay.
Tarken and Tytan weren't too far behind as Tarken shoved Shan Yu with his shoulder while Tytan intimidated Gaston and Ratcliff into holding each other.
"Sssssorry we're late for the party," said Venomis.
Tytan's huge size caused him to bump Tremaine into Grimhilde, though he didn't seem too sorry about it.
"Clumsy ox," Tremiane and Grimhilde said under their breaths.
Meanwhile, Venomis shoved Gothel to the side, giving her a wicked, condescending smile.
"Careful, Venomis. If you smile too much, you could crack your skin," Gothel said sarcastically.
Venomis hissed in anger.
The two's arguing much soon halted by a hard bang on the table from Golett. "Enough!" he shouted. "The monster I sent to take care of the princesses has not come back!"
"Well if I had to guess, I'd say he didn't get the job done," said Gothel.
"Don't lisssssten to her! I'm sure everything isssss fine. He'ssssss probably done it by now and isssss on hisssss way back asssss we sssssspeak," said Venomis, covering Gothel's face with her tail.
"Well I sssssssay you're wrong," Gothel said mockingly, quickly swatting away Venomis' tail.
"SILENCE!" Golett commanded.
"Yes, silence when the great Golett is speaking!" Maleficent said a monotone voice.
The other villains stared at Maleficent, confused and befuddled as Golett circled around them. Even though it seemed impossible, it was most likely that the princesses had somehow destroyed his monster which of course meant that they were still out there collecting those scepters. And if they got them all, it would spell potential trouble for him.
"So what?! I say let them find them! Even with their power, we have them outnumbered a thousand to one!" said Shan Yu.
"Beware of overconfidence, Shan Yu," Jafar advised. "None of us have any idea how much power these scepters possess."
"Which is why you should have a backup plan in case things don't go in your favor, my master," said Tarken.
"What do you have in mind, Tarken?" Golett asked.
"Well, if the superpowered princesses get out of line. You just so happen to have some 'bargaining chips' laying in the cells," Tarken said slyly.
The villains immediately caught on to Tarken's plan as did Golett as a wicked smile came across his face.
"Yessssss, excellent plan, Tarken," Venomis hissed.
"Indeed. Come along, Maleficent. We have some spells to work on," Golett said.
"As you wish, Golett," Maleficent said in a monotone voice.
As Golett and Maleficent left, Tarken shoved Shan Yu aside again, which the Hun leader did not take too kindly to, before leaving and Tytan almost hit Grimhilde and Tremaine with his club. Venomis attempted to drop her poison on Gothel's dress before she left, but luckily, Gothel moved out of the way.
Golett's three soldiers laughed mockingly at the villains as they departed the main hall. The Evil Empire was left feeling rather incredulous in regards to them, especially Gothel. But though they had their mixed feelings about them, they still enjoyed the power, so as long as they didn't have to worry about the princesses and the scepters, things were fine enough as far as they were concerned.
"Using the princes as human shields?" Jafar groaned in disgust.
"What? You're against it?" Grimhilde asked curiously.
"Yes! Only because I didn't think of it first," said Jafar.
