Billy and Travis followed their Beta counterparts through the brightly-lit Gamma halls.
"This is a clear step-up from the original Gamma base." Billy thought aloud, "This one doesn't smell like rotting blood and corpses!"
"What?" Beta Billy gawked, "Why? You couldn't install an air freshener?"
"I mean… I see tons less corpses, that might affect the smell.." Travis put in.
"You mean to tell me, you didn't dispose of the bodies?" Beta Travis asked, "No wonder you lost, that's a hygiene risk."
"Since when did Gamma care about hygiene?!" Billy chuckled, "We're Gamma, for crying out loud!"
"Well, it was mostly Sigma who started the hygiene thing after somebody got sick and got half the squad sick too, giving the MVPs the easiest battle of their lives." Beta Travis replied.
Billy paused to tease some prisoners, then saw Amber in a cell nearby. He eyed her, giddily.
"Hey, loser!" He called.
Amber noticed him and squinted, before giving him a one-finger salute. Billy, getting cocky, returned the gesture with both hands, then all of the robotic ones too.
After that situation ended, Billy laughed.
"You guys have already arrested the good guys? This is great!"
"No, not great!" Travis interjected, "No doubt the MVPs have a team just as bad as them!"
"There is one team…" Beta Billy sighed, "No matter what we do, they're persistent."
"Not like they're gonna stand a chance when we brainwash their teammates against them." Beta Travis said with a brash tone.
They approached a set of doors and Beta Travis turned to the others.
"Are we calm?"
"Yeah, pretty much." Billy replied.
"Good, because fear isn't gonna look good once you're face to face with Omega."
"It's still the creepy old man, right?" Travis chuckled, "He wasn't scary."
"Honestly, though he wears a mask, he's probably not that old. Maybe even younger than any of us!"
"Mask?" Travis groaned, "I've seen too many of those! Can't we just show our faces?!"
"Surely a man can respect someone's choice?" A voice jeered from behind them.
"Hi Sigma." Beta Billy greeted.
"Boys!" Sigma shoved the Betas out of the way and looked at the originals. "He really is your spitting image!" She then gazed at Billy. "And… who's this?"
"I'm him." Billy pointed to his counterpart, then smirked, "But more evil."
"Hm, sure you are." Sigma grumbled. "Let's get you boys to Omega!"
Sigma shoved them through the doors and carefully closed it behind them.
"Visitors!" She called.
Omega calmly stood from their desk and held their gaze on Billy and Travis.
"Wow. Almost completely alike!"
Omega strutted past Travis and stopped in front of Billy.
"And… who are you?"
Billy gave a weird smile.
"I'm Billy." He stuck his hand out as if they were to shake hands, but Omega just looked at it.
"I don't shake hands with those below me."
"Well, excuse me for trying to be cordial." Billy huffed, "But I guess people with small kill counts tend to brag about it."
"What?" Omega snarled.
"Excuse you, sir! Omega has committed most of the killing here! If you look at the record," Sigma whipped out a tablet and turned it around once she'd found the right thing. "MVP deaths are above 20, as of this year! So unless you've more than that, sit down!"
Billy rolled his eyes.
"In the record of three years ago, I killed over a thousand. So chew on that, normie."
Sigma scowled. "No you didn't!"
Travis raised his hand.
"Sorry, but he did do that. He also killed Alpha in our dimension."
Omega yanked Billy forward by the collar.
"You did what?!"
"I tore a piece of shrapnel from his chest and killed him. Does that bother you?" Billy taunted, "That a lackey under your level did one thing you couldn't? Maybe that'll show you who's the true Omega material." He hissed, before freeing himself from Omega's grasp and stepping back.
"Sigma, assign them their rooms." Omega snapped, before gazing at Billy. "And give Mr. Billy the professional room."
Billy elbowed Travis, who frowned in return.
"And you two." Omega pointed to the Betas. "Expect some reward for your findings."
Meanwhile…
"I suppose we'll have to introduce ourselves." The captain's Beta self began. "3, you go first." He snapped, hastily.
"What? Why me?"
"Because I said so."
Beta 3 rolled her eyes and turned to 3.
"Apparently, according to these dingbats, I'm you, from our dimension… or something. And, while I have the chance to speak, I have to say, DAMN! You're tall!" Beta 3 walked over and compared their heights, making a sad face when she realized that she couldn't even see 3 without having to look slightly up.
"Ok." Beta captain pointed to L. "She already met you. Our fourth is gone on a secret mission, so I'll just introduce myself!"
Beta Captain took a little bow.
"I'm the highest-ranked captain of the MVPs thus far, and captain of this team. We've been together for three years now!"
"Ok, but what does this help?" 3 asked.
"Us. Anyway, we can't get you to Alpha right now." Beta Captain began to walk and gestured for them to follow. "He claimed that he was busy and would be that way for a few months."
"A few months?!" 3 exclaimed.
"Goes by like a blur when you're us." Beta 3 sighed. "Stationed in the most boring sector."
"Because we're "too precious to lose," I know." Beta Captain replied.
"Too precious to lose?" 3 chuckled, "Our Alpha tried to sacrifice us to save himself!"
"Really?!" Beta L gasped, "Is that gonna happen to us?!"
"Yeah, yours sounds better than ours."
"Anyway, we have nothing better to do so," Beta Captain pulled out some cards, "anyone up for some BS?"
?
Simon sat on the lounge sofa, scrolling through the channels on the TV.
"What happened to the reality shows?" He asked himself a tad too loud.
"We ran out of cable." The captain called. "Alpha didn't want to pay for it, so he's making us! And I'm not paying for it!"
"He has several billion dollars and can't pay for one month of TV?" Simon griped.
"To be fair, that's for a lot of bases." Said the captain.
"...There's only one base. Maintenance on the others isn't finished, it's only for five TVs."
The captain held his gaze on the TV.
"...Wake up." He muttered, faintly. "Can you talk to me?"
"What?"
"You didn't hear any of that?" The captain quickly switched back to jolly again, "I said, "he's cheap like that!"
"You didn't just notice that? Whatever the heck you just did?" Simon sputtered, "I know that wasn't just me."
"You need some sleep, son? We aren't on duty, you CAN take a nap."
Simon sighed and rubbed his head.
"Maybe I should take a nap." He thought aloud. "Alright, guess I'm going home."
There was supposed to be a different chapter in this one's place, but the Betas weren't even introduced yet, so it wouldn't work(I should mention that Alph isn't hired in Beta Edition. Sorry...) Just had to establish Billy's higher place than everyone else.
Where is Simon? It seems like he's in an entirely different reality than everyone else!
Sigma claims to be Beta Amber's mother. Keep that in mind for later.
So, if 3 and Travis were friends(possibly more,) than what's Beta 3 and Beta Travis's relationship? Guess we'll find out soon. See you then...
