『Chapter Six ~: Working …

Three Months, Two Weeks, Four Days, seven hours, thirty-three minutes, and twenty-one Seconds...twe..⸥⸥

[N.I.D ~ Area 51]

My eyes slowly drifted open as a man in a uniform came in with my usual breakfast a tray of food. I've counted the days since arriving in this world. With my abilities, I could easily escape from this place, but I've chosen to remain at this time. I answer the questions they ask, but I've also learned too in the process. I've come to realize through the interaction with these beings, that I once was one (but not from this dimensional universe.) That was the real reason I was remaining in this captivity (and the amount of knowledge and other information I was devouring being around these humans.)

I found it changed me, brought me past the need for solitude. Also, as time passed, I found my wanting to return to the original planet dimmed. To replace this, I was exposed to new technology asked my thoughts. I told them a few things I observed but not everything and I never upgraded the items, but rather I just made and kept the blueprints inside of my mind. I did this as I always got the feeling of being stared at by a predator ready to eat my flesh (instead of the eyes of people trying to understand me at SGC.)

Despite my efforts, my captors still they caught on to my ability to learn at great speeds and digest information. So, I found for the bulk of my time (when I wasn't discerning an object function or etching out a blue print) they taught me a great number of things in order to make their lives easier. This ranged from written languages (so I could write my notes in non-Goa'uld) as well as teaching me this world's form of math and measurements so I could also do the conversions for them.

This was also another reason I never handed over any upgraded versions of the devices they showed me. I knew, if I did, they'd watch me closer (perhaps even wonder how and why I was doing it.) As I learned through the ways these humans spoke of my species; they hardly ever gave knowledge (of their own free will,) and were arrogant to a high degree. Admittedly, as I performed a self-analyze of my own mind, I do find I have the arrogant tendency as well. (But the emotions don't control me or direct my actions like the others.)

I let out a yawn as I looked up from a textbook I was given. Tired, I sat the book at the desk and stretched before taking the meal tray from the man. "I'm almost finish re-reading this textbook I was given."

He briefly nodded, acknowledging my statement.

"After study and analyze I would like to be able to bath. It's been a few days. Well, a few of your days, anyway."

The young soldier nodded, unreactive to my attempt at humor. I knew they weren't supposed to speak to me unless absolutely necessary; such as in giving me an order to do something, or yet another test. After the solider left I began to eat as well as leaf through the book. By the time I finished my breakfast I had finished reading the book before standing up and let out another yawn before laying down on my bed. I took a moment to close my eyes to rest before I cracked open another textbook (to kill more time by re-reading it over again.)

Three Hours and thirty-three minutes Later

I found myself looking over a healing device made by an alien race they call ancients. It was an interesting design; I even saw a few ways to improve it, namely the amount of energy needed depending on the treatment or size of the wound. I only wrote a couple pages on how to activate it if the person didn't have what some called 'ancient genes' and how to repair or troubleshoot it if it were damaged (as well as how long it could be used and how long it would need to recharge after use, based on treatment.) After I finished the report, I moved on to do a detail analysis of a half broken-ring teleport device that was salvaged from a goa'uld ship. I even manage to fix it enough to turn it on.

My goal was to do a larger analysis of the device, but as I started, I heard a cough and found the reptile that brought me to this place. What I learned while I was here, was that he was some sort of official of this world's government. But I think the only reason I'm still here is that the N.I.D share custody of me with the SGC (otherwise I be dead or worked to bone; both fates I found unappealing.) I put a emote looking face on to greet my dear friend. "Hello sir."

This caused the man to scowl." Don't be so formal child, I told you call me George."

'That's not going to happen anytime soon.'

"I also wish you'd let me name you."

I shook my head, resisting the urge to further speak my mind.

The senator's face grew even darker and causing him to speak coldly, "Oh, well there's time for that later. Right now, the SGC needs you to go back to take a look at something immediately. Usually, we'd let you wait here to do your work from here, but at this time we have no idea what the device will do. So, unfortunately, they are unwilling to send it to us right away."

I nodded, with the fakest smile I could muster. This wasn't the first time this happen, and I actually like getting out of my cell.

Three Hours later

[Mountain Cheyne ~ SGC Headquarters]

I stepped out of the second elevator followed by my four guards. I saw General Hammond, Dr. Jackson, and Major Carter standing there, waiting for me. I had to admit, I felt a more pleasant energy from them. There was something not so predatory about their department. That was probably why I gave them more when I was asked for help by them (even if it seems like my normal work style and speed to those who were observing.)

General Hammond step towards me, with his usual confidence. "Hello, and welcome back to SGC."

"Thank you, I am very much delighted to be here."

"My team found something on a recent planet we traveled to."

"That sounds fascinating."

General Hammond at least seemed to catch on to my humor. "What we found was a device inside of a set of stone ruins but we have no idea what it does. And in its current state, we assume the device is without a power source."

I nodded to this and look at the other two. "Show me?"

With this statement, I and my guards were led away to look at the mystery device.

Four Hours later

[Mountain Cheyne ~ SGC Headquarters - Lab]

I was in the middle of analyzing a piece of the device, which I had taken apart, when Samantha spoke to me. "So how life been with the N.I.D?"

I didn't really look in her direction not until she pushed a Hershey bar in front of me. Sensing her good intentions, I looked down and said; "Well it's been okay; more boring than anything, they have me studying and research pretty much all day every day (as one of those soldiers told me, anyway.)" I put down the part and picked up the offered candy bar. I unwrapped it before taking a bite, looking every bit like a human.

"May we chat?" she asked.

"I thought that's what we're doing?"

"Someplace a little more comfortable."

"Sure." I finished my snack before following Samantha to a set.

We had small talk and I watch Samantha make something called tea. "Try this, I think you'll like it."

I took the cup from her and took a small sip. "You would be correct." I answered her slightly more friendly than I did with the senator who saw me before. That was, until she asked about my name.

"I think you'd enjoy having a name. Have you put any thought into selecting one?

"No, I have not picked any name yet and you're not the only one that ask that question!"

"Sorry, I'll drop the subject."

We continue drinking tea as I took a small break. I discussed what I had found and unfortunately there wasn't much. The device was way more damaged than first believed and I had to take it apart to find the parts which were broken (so they could be repaired by me or other people.) But at the end, until the repairs were done, no team would be able to learn what this item could actually do.

After the break I went back to the work, but we continue to speak. Of course, to me it was random. The human female asked very odd things, in what I could only assume was an effort to make a connection as we worked.

The peace lasted until a man who wore glasses (I knew him as Dr. Jackson,) wanted to intervene. "Maybe the name Alexander or Caser would fit you?"

I grunted and said, "No."

This caused Samantha to laugh as I continued to work.

However, in the middle of the commotion, I heard a much more masculine voice say, "How about Bob?"

I didn't even have to look from what I was doing to know who the jokester was. "No, O'Neil." My reply was followed up with, "if you took that as your name, the other snakes might try to kill you."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

I fiddled with the part I was working on. "Name or no name they still try to kill me. They even tried eating me when I lived in my pound."

The three looked at one another Danielle asked, "You lived in pound?"

I nodded as I kept working.

He asked another question "Is Goa'uld cannibalism a common occurrence."

I shrugged and said, "It was, in the pound I was from, so I say most likely it a way to thin down the population while getting the nurturance to survive the day-to-day life in the wild." I said it with zero to no emotion as I kept working with the piece I had in my hands.
