BACK TO DIAGON ALLEY
When Harry arrived back to the Dursley's house, they had already gotten back from the shack on the rock island. Dudley was now scared of Harry that he refused to stay in the same room, while Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon hadn't shut Harry back up in his cupboard, forced him to do anything, shout at him, in fact, they didn't acknowledge his presence at all. Half terrified, half furious, they acted as though any area with Harry in it were empty. This was a great improvement for Harry he wasn't beaten, he was made to cook and clean up after dinner. He didn't mind as he had time to wait for his things to arrive by owl.
After Harry had finished cleaning up after dinner and was going to rest in his cupboard.
"Not there you Freak! Go to Dudley's second bedroom, you're staying there from now on, now get out of my face!" Vernon shouted at Harry.
Harry quickly went up to Dudley's second bedroom and immediately saw to cleaning up the room as much as he could.
After about 15 minutes the owls started arriving at the window to deliver his school things. After relieving all of the owls of their packages, he started sorting through the books, quills, ink, parchment, and uniforms that he had bought earlier that day.
Harry tested out writing with the ink and to see how much practice he was going to need. The ink was everywhere; the words were blotchy and he had pressed the quill too hard on the parchment a couple times that the quill went through it. Nothing like the cursive that was on his Hogwarts letters. He resolved to practice so that his homework would be ledgible for his teachers.
Harry put the writing equipment away to bring out his potion ingredients and book.
Reading the potions book, and looking through the recipes. He realized that while he knew how to cook, which may have similar motions like cut, chop, mince and grind. He didn't know how to do that doing those motions with the magical ingredients. He took one of the pens and empty notebooks that was unused from Dudley, and started to make a list of things that he would need to do.
Shopping list
-School bag
-Casual clothes
-Pens
-Pencils
-Paper
-Sticky notes
-Cue cards
-Highlighters
-Binders
-Books for etiquitte, magic, laws, traditions, and a potions guide on how to handle magical potions ingredients
Harry wrote all the things that he could think of what he needed to get when he went back to Diagon Alley again tomorrow, he also would be able to do some shopping in the non magical world.
After going through his things and then packing everything but the books inside his new trunk he sat down to read a chapter from each of his new books. He soon realized that he didn't fully understand what the books were saying, so he took out his list of things to buy and added to it.
-Basic guide on all Hogwarts classes
With that done Harry had nothing more to do, so deciding to look through the books to find an easy enough spell to test out. Harry made a list of the possibly easy to do charms, the ones that he could try without drawing attention from his family that he was practicing his magic.
-Wand-Lighting Charm- is a charm a light-creation spell used to illuminate the tip of the caster's wand, this light is fairly warm. Incantation-Lumos.
-Unlocking Charm- also known as the Thief's Friend is a charm that opens mechanical locks that are not protected by magic. It is also able to open doors locked by Colloportus. Incantation-Alohomora.
-Locking Spell- is a charm that is used to lock or seal doors so that they cannot be opened manually; however, it is unknown whether a key could be used to unlock them. Incantation-Colloportus.
-Mending Charm- also known as the Repairing Charm was a charm that could be used to seamlessly repair a broken object. Incantation-Reparo.
-Levitation Charm- is a charm used to make objects fly. Incantation-Wingardium Leviosa.
-Severing Charm- is a charm used to precisely and accurately cut something. Incantation-Diffindo.
-Fire-Making Spell-also known as the Fire-Making Charm, is a charm that can be used to conjure a jet of flame thereby setting things alight. Incantation-Incendio.
Harry decided to try some of the spells on the list. Playing with the spell Harry tried it out many times, to make sure that he could use it as he was trying to do it without his wand.
"Lumos!" Harry intoned quietly but firmly, with his eyes shut picturing a floating ball of light giving of gentle waves of light and warmth.
Harry felt his magic move though his body. Opening his eyes Harry saw a light! Exactly as how he had pictured it in his mind.
Excited, Harry cancelled the spell and set out to retry the spell wanting to keep his eyes open.
Focusing on his magic so that it was moving again, Harry saw a light beginning to form before his eyes until it was the steady, soft and warm light he'd pictured. Deciding to have a little fun. Harry focused on having the little ball of light move about the room.
It was beautiful, Harry could not stop smiling. He was magical. It wasn't a joke. He knew it wasn't as he'd been able to do things for years, but this just cemented that there was no mistake in him getting the letter.
Harry moved on down the list and locked his trunk to try out the unlocking spell. Happily he succeeded on the first try, trying out the spell a few more times he moved onto the locking spell, which gave him exactly the same results.
Getting to the spell he found possibly the most useful Harry grabbed the pen and notebook from before, taking out a sheet of paper he ripped it in half. Harry then proceeded to try the repairing charm.
"Repairo!"
The two halves of the paper came together and placed itself back into the notebook with no sign to say that it had been ripped at all.
Happiness swelled within Harry at seeing this, he walked over to where the bed was and did the spell once more. In seconds Harry noticed that the bed looked brand new.
Harry sat on the bed. To his amazement, the bed was the comfiest he'd ever been at the Dursley's house. Harry then moved onto the bed frame as instead of the rickety banged up, chipped, and broken frame it was now he wanted a dark rich brown, even smooth and glossy, sturdy frame.
"Repairo!"
The spell formed, but as it was about to complete it failed, if anything it made Harry feel breathless like he'd just stopped running.
Pausing, Harry noticed that the thought of the bedframe that he wants, was nothing like how it does now or even what it looked like brand new. So Harry, pictured the bed frame on how it had originally looked.
"Repairo!"
This time Harry felt the warmth move through his body, he then watched the frame turn from it's dull colour dent's and scratches fill out. When the job was done, Harry saw that the bed was still uneven from where Dudley had decided to cut a piece of the leg off.
Harry made a note that you had to have all of the pieces of a broken object in order to restore what was broken back to the original shape. When he succeeded a few times he got up, walking over to the mirror Harry used wandless magic to try and repair his glasses. Succeeding he removed his glasses he examined his glasses with awe.
Getting to the last spell Harry got one of the books that Dudley had left in the room, he practiced the levitation spell with some difficulty as he had trouble pronouncing the words properly. He didn't want to use the spell without knowing how to properly say it, he'd read the warning for mispronounced spells and didn't want to end up in a situation where he could not fix himself.
When he looked at the time he decided that he needed to get some sleep if he wanted to leave for the alley in the morning. Tidying up what was left and organizing them inside his trunk, he went to that washroom to get ready for bed. Coming back Harry turned off his light sleep on the small but now comfy bed.
In the morning Harry woke up to the sun shining through his window before his alarm could go off, he got out of bed to get ready for the day. Going down into the kitchen Harry made breakfast for his aunt, uncle and cousin. Taking two pieces of toast with marmalade he went back up to his room to grab everything that he needed, which was contained in a bag just inside the door. By a quarter to 8 o'clock Harry nothing left in the house that was his, so he headed off to the train station.
Harry arrived at the train station after a short walk there he bought a ticket for the next train to London, the train was at 8:45 so he sat down to read a book that he'd brought with him to wait. The train arrived not long after and Harry quickly boarded not wanting to get left behind. Arriving at Paddington station Harry made his way to Charing Cross Road to where the Leaky Cauldron was located. Arriving at the Leaky Cauldron storefront Harry rummaged through the bag that he had brought with him, he brought out a hat that was fairly new that Dudley had bought for himself but was too small for his head, so it was never used.
Jamming the hat on his head Harry went through the Leaky Cauldron quickly with no mishaps. Where he was met with an owl waiting for him with a letter attached to its leg.
Taking the letter from the owl which took off after being relieved of its duty flew off.
Dear Mr. Potter,
From your request yesterday we have made an appoinment for you to meet with Account Advisor Stormclaw, Aug 1 at 4pm.
Merry Met
Clerk Ironhammer
Thanking his luck Harry pocketed the letter and headed back towards the shop where he'd gotten his trunk.
"Good morning- Ah is there something wrong with the trunk that you purchased yesterday?" The same shop clerk as yesterday questioned to Harry.
"No, I was wondering if you sold any school bags with similar charms?"
"I see, well we sell an assortment of products. Follow me." The clerk became animated.
"I have this bag that is impervious to water and resistant to fire, tearing, has an extension and featherlight charms as well for 13G. Mind you it won't hold as much as your trunk by far but it will hold all your homework and books for the day along with a potions compartment so it doesn't get mixed up."
"I'll take it. Also you said that you had an assortment of products?" Harry asked as he handed over the money.
"Indeed I did! We also sell tents for all occasions and seasons, why you could even live in one!" The clerk enthusiasticly explained.
"You can live in a tent?" Harry was shocked, he could get away from the Dursley's! He could have them sign him up for correspondence school and he could get it sent to him at his tent.
"Yes you can, though it costs 175G, so it's not a popular item so far."
"I'll take one!" Harry quickly browsed through the available tents and picked out the one that he wanted. It had 3 bedroom with a private Master Ensuite, another full bath, a library, a study, and a full kitchen, dining, and living rooms. It had the same charms on it that his trunk did, but it also had a muggle repelling and notice-me-not charm on it.
Walking out of the shop with with a new sense of purpose, he needed nothing to buy for his new home as he bought it furnished, all he needed was to pitch the tent and live well aside from food but that was fine.
Quickly going over to the book store he browsed and bought all he wanted to that he wasn't able to do the day prior. Having his new books in his brand new school bag Harry went to the non magical world to purchase the stationary that he felt he needed for the school year.
He then moved onto getting his new casual wear. It took a lot longer than he expected as he'd never gone shopping for clothes for himself before. After a while Harry had asked one of the clerks for help for the new wardrobe. The cost for the clothes was 295.84 pounds, he was happy that he had his crafting that made him money.
As it was getting close to 4pm he went to the brick wall and headed back to Gringotts. Arriving at the entrance Harry removed his hat and walked in, looking for a free goblin. Spotting one he walked up to the desk and patiently waited to be seen to. When he received the goblins attention he spoke.
"Excuse me, I was here yesterday and I recieved a letter for an appointment with Stormclaw at 4pm."
"Name?"
"My name is Harry Potter."
"Key." Harry removed the key that he took from Hagrid from his pocket and handed it to the goblin. The goblin looked over the key and passed it back over to Harry when he was done.
"Griphook!" The goblin called out, calling the same goblin that had escorted Hagrid and himself through the bank yesterday. Griphook arrived. "Griphook escort Mr. Potter to the Stormclaw the Potter manager."
Harry then turned and started walking away, thanking the teller goblin before hurrying over to follow Griphook. Arriving in a different part of the bank then yesterday they passed numerous doors Davis, Patil, Greengrass, Diggory, Nott, Bones, Longbottom Malfoy, Black and many others.
When they arrived at the door that said Potter, Griphook knocked sharply on the door. An answer beckoning them in, once inside the doors they were now standing in a roomy elegant office. A goblin was reading over papers that seemed to consume the desk he was sitting at. Stopping the goblin looked up, Griphook spoke then.
"Mr. Potter here to see you about his vaults."
"Very well, you may go." The new goblin, Stormclaw turned his attention to Harry. "You finally come to accept your responsibility as the heir apparent of the Potter family, I see."
Baffled at this Harry went to question and explain why he was here. "I'm sorry, but I don't understand what you mean. I came here today to see if there was anything other than the money that my parents left me. And to talk about my vault holdings, who has access to my vault, and to link both my magical and non magical bank accounts together. Can you please explain what it is that you mean sir?"
"Call me Stormclaw, it is to my understanding that you are the last direct living relative of the Potter family." Stormclaw stated "And as such you are the heir apparent of the Potter family."
"What does being the heir apparent mean?"
"It means that you eligible to receive the full Potter lordship and estate, but you have not been named heir by either your father or the Potter Family Head."
"Who is the Potter family head? And how exactly am I the heir apparent?"
"There is no current family head as Lord Potter died before you were born, and your father the heir, never claimed lordship. Now will you be stepping up as the heir or not?"
More than a little confused and not knowing what was happening, Harry thought about what his options were. Deciding Harry said.
"Yes I will be claiming the heirship, is there anything that I have to do so? And does being the heir have anything responsibilities I have to do?"
Stormclaw gathered papers as he answered. "All that you are required to do to claim your heirship is 3 drops of blood in this potion to confirm your relationship to the family, and that you are who you say you are. The answer for your second question is that it will be easier for you if you learned how to manage and maintain your estates, though you are not required to it would benefit you to know and understand what is happening with your estate. You wouldn't want your family to lose it's holdings would you?"
Stormclaw handed Harry a small sharp knife and a blue potion, doing as he was instructed he made a small slice on his thumb and let three drops of blood fall into the potion.
After the last drop of blood hit the potion it turned a blood red colour. Handing the knife and potion back to Stormclaw, he watched as the goblin dipped an odd quill into the potion. When the quill had soaked up every drop of the potion. Stormclaw set the quill on a blank piece of parchment.
Where Harry sat amazed for a few seconds as the quill began scratching away on the parchment by itself. When the quill finished writing, Harry was now looking at the parchment that of his family to his grandparents.
Haydin (Harry) James Potter current heir apparent to Potter, Black, Flamel, Gaunt, Slytherin, Griffindor, Ravenclaw, Peverell, Lestrange families
Paternal
James Potter father-deceased
Dorea Potter nee Black grandmother-deceased
Charlus Potter grandfather-deceased
Maternal
Lily Avens Potter nee Evansmother-deceased
Adan Freya Evans nee Flamel grandmother-deceased
Corvus Cyrille Evans grandfather-deceased
Sirius Black sworn godfather, blood adopted father – incarcerated, detained without trial
Alice Longbottom nee Smith sworn godmother – long-term magic damage ward
Stormclaw took the parchment and looked it over. "It seems that we must inform Lord Black, Flamel, and Lestrange that the Heir apparent has been found." Stormclaw wrote a quick note, when he was done writing he spoke a few words and the note disappeared in a poof of smoke, and withing a moment there was a respone. "It seems that Lord Black should be here momentarily to assess if you are fit to carry the lordship."
There was a sharp rap on the door telling them that Lord Black had arrived.
"Come in." Stormclaw called out. A second later a refined older man strode in and behind him was a goblin with a sheaf of parchment.
"So the heir has been found I see, why has he only been found now? When normally it would be quite a few years ago for this information to come forth when the child is registered with Gringotts."
"Ah Lord Black this is young Mr. Potter he took a blood verification test as he had not been recognized as the Potter heir for his father never took over the Potter lordship."
"I see, the we shall continue with the claiming of the heirships now then?" Lord Black questioned.
"You have not assessed Mr. Potter yet." Stonehammed commented.
"I have no need to, as knowing who he is, the grandson of my cousin Dorea there is no better person to dig the Black name out of the mud that my children have thrown our family into." At this point Lord Black turned to Harry.
"That is if you are willing?" Lord Black turned to Harry.
"Yes sir I would like to be your heir in addition to the other families heir." When Harry answered Lord Black gave a ghost of a smile.
"Call me Arcturus or uncle if you prefer young heir."
"Call me Harry then."
"We are ready for the heirship claiming now Lord Black, Mr. Potter." Stormclaw informed them.
"Shall we proceed?"
Arcturus looked at Harry met his eyes, and then turned back to Stormclaw and nodded.
"Follow me then. Quickly now." Going down a dimly lit hallway and into a room that was empty but for some red, gold, yellow, green and white stones in a circle with a few symbols.
"Mr. Potter stand in the middle of the circle, Lord Black you know what to do, I expect. The ritual of claiming will begin shortly; we shall start with the claiming first and then move on." Stormclaw informed them, while he was moving about the room readying it for the rituals about to take place.
Harry saw that Arcturus had gotten into place while he had moved to the middle of the circle.
"The ritual will begin now. Be warned now the ritual may be slightly painful for you if you haven't ever participated in one."
Stormclaw then bagan to chant that Harry could neither follow or understand. Harry grit his teeth when he felt the pain while the pain wasn't all consuming or sharp, it was a constant pain that grew gradually. It went on for a while with just Stormclaw chanting, and when Harry felt like he was about to pass out the pain started to settle, that was when both Stormclaw and Arcturus started chanting in unison. The pain immediately flared back to life, and Harry gave a surprised shout when the pain got too much until he finally fell into blissful unconsciousness.
Harry awoke to a dim room on a comfortable bed, as he moved to sit up wondering where he was when his body protested the movement, he gave a small moan and settled back onto the bed figuring that it would only hurt worse if he forced himself to move. Hearing a rustle and soft footsteps drawing near, Harry turned his head to see Arcturus standing there with a small vial in one hand.
"How do you feel child?" Arcturus questioned softly. Harry went to answer but all that came out of his dry throat was a croak. Swiftly Arcturus lifted Harry's head and placed a glass at his lips.
"Take sips only or you will be sick." Harry listened to the man and began to sip at the water, when he had drank half of the glass Arcturus set it aside and pressed the vial that he was holding to Harry's lips.
Harry looked up to meet Arcturus' eyes. At seeing those questioning green orbs Arcturus sighed. "It is merely a mild pain reliever, the ritual was more intense than we expected it to be, with your father being a pureblood. And if you are wondering where we are, we're still at the bank but in a private room for such occasions as this one." Arcturus explained.
Curious at the part about his father Harry quickly drank the offered potion, and began firing questions at Arcturus. "Why was the ritual more painful than expected?" Harry blurted out.
Arcturus sat on the side of the bed and got comfortable before answering. "A pureblood is someone who comes from a long line of magical family on both sides, your father was one. And as for the ritual Stormclaw and I as well, mistakenly thought that your father would have continued to preform the traditional rituals, even though he had married your mother."
"What do you mean you thought that my dad would continue to preform the rituals even though dad married my mum?"
"What I mean with continuing to preform the rituals is that given your reaction to the ritual of claiming, that your father did not continue to honor magic through the traditional wizarding rituals. Rituals like the one that we just preformed bring our magic out and into the earth tempering and claiming it, not taming it like some think.
The rituals calm and pay respect to the magic within us forming a closer connection to it, understanding it just a bit more than before. It helps young children control their magic and lessen accidental magic, there are other rituals but I will teach you them later. Now as for your father marrying your mother it is no problem as she was a strong and bright young witch, but as she was muggleborn I can only gather that your father stopped practicing the rituals and traditions because of her."
"Why would him marrying my mum cause my dad to stop practicing the rituals and traditions?" Harry was very confused as even though the ritual was very painful let alone going through two consecutively, he knew that Arcturus was telling the truth as he could feel the warmth that is his magic contently flowing throughout his body. He would also learn to do these rituals as he only seemed to benefit from them if he could be able to control his magic better, so he wouldn't have as many accidental incidents if he is ever at the Dursley's house.
"As you may know, your mother while strong and bright she was still a muggleborn. Now muggleborn tend to think that the wizarding worlds rituals and traditions are barbaric, as too many improperly used and prepared the rituals and caused themselves pain and injury. When those muggleborn used the rituals, they were caused pain because they were releasing their magic into the earth for the first time ever. They foolishly jumped into the rituals head first, much like we did today with you Harry. For that I apologize for the pain that I have caused you.
We should not have done the claiming rituals today, and we should have prepared you with the beginning of the rituals as magic is like a muscle, the more one uses it, the easier it becomes. These types of rituals are powerful and normally you will only feel the warmth of your magic rushing through you. Also, if you have not practiced a ritual for sometime they would only cause irritation or slight pain, but as you have never preformed a ritual before today the ritual caused you immense pain.
We have smaller and less intense rituals for this very purpose. So there would have been no pain associated with the ritual had we known you had never partook in a ritual." When Arcturus was done speaking his head was facing the floor and he looked in as if he was in physical pain while saying this, as if it hurt him by how he had thrust Harry into a ritual wholey unprepared and had caused him pain.
"It's okay." Harry told the man. "It wasn't your fault that you didn't know, you couldn't possibly have known. Will you teach me the proper way to practice the rituals and traditions?"
Surprised and startled by Harry's question Arcturus' head snapped up to look at Harry. "After what you experienced today you are still willing to learn our ways?"
"Of course I still want to learn the wizarding way, while I may not agree or see eye to eye on everything it is still a part of me. And the ritual even though it was painful I can feel my magic better and it feels more calm to me."
Hearing this had Arcturus softly smiling at Harry. "You should rest some more; I will be back later to take you to finish going over your accounts if you are feeling well." He stood up and pulled the blanket up to cover Harry more. He then walked out of the room shutting the door quietly behind him, leaving Harry in the dark room alone to rest. Harry who'd had no time to protest that he didn't need to rest, had fallen asleep five minutes later.
