Meant to Be

Sweet like a kiss, sharp like a razor blade

The heavy rain hit the window with a pitter patter sound. The familiar sound of rain soothed and relaxed him – it always had since he was a kid. On rainy days, if he wasn't at working – he'd have music playing softly in the background while he read a book in his favorite arm chair. Or he'd grab some popcorn and watch one of his favorite muggle movies. To him, rainy days were wonderful.

He was sitting at the kitchen table, drinking a hot cup of tea, letting the warm liquid spread through him. He had a stack of paperwork sitting next to him along with a quill and ink bottle. The quill lay discarded where her left it for a much needed. Since then, he'd made himself a cup of tea and was waiting for Victoire to get of work.

He never would have guessed that he and Victoire would have become more than friends. Even if everyone else in the Weasley family saw it coming. They were there for each and had the other's back. The two of them had always been close since they were kids, but it wasn't until a few years ago that he saw her in a different light. It wasn't a feeling that he could easily describe, but he knew that something was different.

It was at her sixteenth birthday party the summer before her seventh year when he found out that she felt the same about him that he did for her. The two of them had slipped away and were walking around the burrow. Teddy smiled at the memory.

The sun was shining and it was a nice day in mid June. He and Victoire were walking around the burrow and had just past the make shift Quidditch Pitch. The sight reminded Teddy greatly of his days spent at the Quidditch Pitch in his Hogwarts years and he felt bit nostalgia. Quidditch games were just one of his favorite things about Hogwarts – that and the room of requirement. He remembered the Friday nights when he and Victoire would sneak off towards the room of requirement and just talk about anything and everything.

"So how's Hogwarts without me?" Teddy found himself asking.

Victoire shrugged as she turned away from him. "I definitely didn't even realize you were gone," she said, nonchalant

A mock hurt look appeared on Teddy's face and he placed a hand on his chest. "I am hurt."

Victoire laughed and playfully shoved him. "Get over yourself Lupin, not everything is about you, you know."

"I still would have thought that one of my best mates would have missed me, even if it was only slightest."

A moment of silence passed between the two. Victoire smiled at Teddy which caused him to smile in return. There was just something about her smile that was contiguous and he couldn't help but always return it.

"I will say this," Victoire started after another moment. "It was different but Xavier was a good help at not letting me be bored."

"Xavier's good for that," he replied.

Her gaze fell on the pitch a couple of feet away. "Although, Wood is a bit too obsessive over Quidditch when you get him started. He goes on a tangent." Victoire commented. "But I never expected anything less."

Victoire bringing up the subject of Xavier made him realize that they'd been gone for a while now. The rest of Victoire's family and friends were bound to be wondering where they disappeared to. "Don't you think we should head back?"

Victoire waved her hand, dismissing the thought. "I'm sure no one even cares."

"Someone's probably noticed that none of the cake has disappeared yet."

"Even if we were around the house, the cake would still be untouched. Grandmum Molly always hides the cake from me because she know I'll eat it before I'm supposed to," Victoire muttered.

"So there will at least be some cake for everyone else," he joked.

Teddy glanced over at her and saw how she was glaring at him in that way of hers when he knew she was joking. The seriousness of her blue eyes bore into him and he couldn't help but almost smile. She was cute and adorable when she was pretending to be mad at him.

Did he just say that? Did he mean that in the way he thought he meant it? He couldn't possibly see Vic, one of his best mates in that light. Or could he?

No he couldn't. That was ridiculous. They were very good friends and he didn't want to ruin that by trying to be more than that.

Teddy noticed that Victoire was looking at him intently and he wondered exactly what was going on in that mind of hers. He loosely crossed his arms over his chest as he looked at her, obviously lost in thought.

"Earth to Vic," he said.

Victoire shook her head and turned to glance at him. She raised an eyebrow.

"What are you thinking about over there?"

"Just thinking about some things…well about a certain someone."

"Does this bloke have a name?" he asked, hoping his voice wouldn't give away anything.

"His name is unimportant at the moment." Victoire told him. "It wouldn't even matter anyway. He wouldn't care."

"A bloke who wouldn't care that Victoire Weasley had a thing for him would have to be really stupid to let someone like you go."

"Someone like me?" she prompted.

"Talented, smart, beautiful, funny, strong willed, loyal," he quickly stated. "I could go on for a while…You're also impulsive and think before you act, but sometimes that's not exactly a bad thing. It's just what makes you, you."

Teddy realized what he was saying and stopped talking. He ran a hand through his hair and glanced away for a moment. He hoped that Victoire hadn't seen the blush that he felt slowly creeping up on his face. He normally would have morphed it away but for some reason that was impossible when he was around Victoire lately. She somehow made him not able to use his morphing abilities correctly.

"Well this bloke that I like can be so daft sometimes," Victoire standing, not caring that he'd just stopped talking. "I like him and I think that he likes me but he's obviously too scared or nervous to make the first move…To be honest, I am too. We have such a great friendship going that I don't want to ruin that by starting a relationship."

Teddy glanced over at her as she kept talking. He would have said something but he was kind of enjoying her throwing her heart out at him.

"What I'm trying to say is…."

He never had a chance to hear what she was going to say. Instead her hands had wrapped themselves around his neck and pulled him closer until their lips met. The kiss was slow and slow and was over before Teddy wished it was.

"Sorry," Victoire said when she pulled back. "I totally just ruined everything between us…but you know how I suck at saying what—"

"Vic," he said, softly, interrupting her. "You didn't ruin anything…I've felt the same way for a while now – I've just been too afraid to say anything."

"So I'm not the only one who's in love with my best friend?" she asked.

"I guess not."

The sound of the front door opening pulled Teddy out of his memory. He turned around and saw Victoire taking off her coat and throwing it on the coat rack. He scooted his chair back and stood up before walking over to her.

"So how was work?" he asked.

"Wonderful," she said, sarcastically as she pulled out her hair tie and let her hair fall out of its messy bun. "Apparently today was the day when lots of people decided to come into contact with dark magic and had to have it reversed."

"I take it was a busy day."

Victoire nodded. "I think I'm just going to take a hot shower and go to bed."

Teddy smiled and kissed her forehead. "I'll be there in a minute, just go and relax."

He watched as she retreated down the hallway. He would have suggested she drink some hot tea before she went to sleep as it usually helped her sleep. But she seemed tired and if she wanted to go straight to sleep, he wouldn't argue with her. Especially since he knew she was pretty scary when she was mad.

Victoire was sweet when she wanted to be, but when she got even the slightest annoyed or pissed off, she would take it out on anyone nearby. The words could cut you like a razor blade if she really wanted them to.

Teddy walked over to the table to clean up his tea cup. After he was finished with that, he closed his ink bottle, and placed it in his bag along with his paperwork and quill. Leaving it there, he turned and made his way down the hallway to the bedroom.

Upon entering, he saw Victoire already fast asleep on top of the covers. The sight brought a smile to his face – she was adorable when she slept. While she was fiery and feisty, she was also fiercely loyal and he wouldn't change that for anything.
