When the doctor and those he trusted arrived they quickly took Derpy aside and put up a few barriers while a few guards moved equipment around for them before standing guard outside of said enclosure they created. I could overhear Derpy answering question after question while they looked her over and tried to see if there was anything wrong with her after the ritual took place. While the room may have been in pristine condition and all the markings for the ritual might have looked fine there was always the worry of the deterioration of the magic running through them. Corruption of said magic was also a potential problem after years of sitting. I could only hope there wasn't anything wrong…
But this allowed me to think of the two names Derpy gave me. Starry Night and Iron Heart… I recognized the name Iron Heart, but I couldn't remember from were. Quickly penning up a message that I had a guard bring to me I sent a message to Quill Book requesting any information concerning him and possibly look into the name Starry Night as well.
"That could be problematic…" I then heard as my attention fully moved from the thoughts of Derpy's parents and straight to the health of said mare. "Run the test again to make sure… we might need to implement measures ahead of time." What could possibly be a problem that they would need to have possible measures ahead of time? Then I was called over and allowed into the enclosure by one of the nurses. "We might have a problem your highness…" Doctor Surge began…
"What is wrong Doctor?" I quickly asked worried about Derpy's health and fearful of what he was going to tell me.
"Her magic core is developing faster then the connections to her horn are. Young unicorn foals use their magic sporadically because the core grows along with their horn and since the connections aren't fully developed, they can't regulate magic all that well. Because of this when in an excited or stressed state the foals use magic without meaning to which could either be good or bad." He began to speak as I added onto what he was saying.
"because of this, young unicorns are watched closely by their parents as well as have monthly checkups with both a normal doctor and a unicorn specialist to ensure their health. There is a health department specifically for unicorns and even pegasi." He nodded at what I said while Derpy still looked confused at what was even being told.
"So… what's wrong?" she then asked as the Doctor sighed and simply responded.
"The incidents concerning young unicorn foals already could be quite destructive with a magical core equivalent to a young foal. You are going to be going through the same process until your horn is fully developed… with an adult magical core that has the magic potency of an alicorn!" her ears went back, and her eyes went wide as I began to realize the situation as well.
How could I have forgotten?
Cadence had gone through the same thing back when she changed as well. Although it was only for a brief time all the things that happened were quite difficult to deal with and was quite unpredictable as well. "How long until her horn is fully developed Doctor?" I asked quickly.
"Two months at the most." He said with a voice filled with regret as my mind went wild.
TWO MONTHS?!
Cadences lasted for only two weeks and all the problems that arose because of her unstable magic quite nearly doomed Canterlot! "Are you certain?" I quickly asked.
"All the data gathered from her visits matched up with that time frame." He stated. "So, we must start thinking of safety measures."
"Safety measures…" I heard Derpy whisper in disbelief. My heart ached at the look on her face as well as what she was feeling right now… she needed confidence a strong will… but with the information of potential destruction being caused by her, while being normal for her due to her own clumsiness, would be much more destructive and life threatening.
"Come with me your highness." Following the Doctor after giving Derpy some comforting words and a kiss on the forehead as we walked out into the hall as the Doctor basically pushed the two guards inside before closing the door and looking at me.
"What would you recommend Doctor?" I asked him after a few moments of silence.
"Isolation." I gave him a stern glare as I quickly realized what he was thinking about. "it's the best thing to do your highness. Her current emotional state and with how unpredictable it's been makes her basically a walking time bomb where even the smallest amount of anger would make it explode. I had read up of princess Cadence's medical history and know of the dangers that happened simply in a quarter of a time frame that Miss Hoove's will be going through." He looked saddened. "I know what you're feeling right now your highness, but this situation is unavoidable… she cannot be in any highly populated area as her magic is highly volatile…"
"And yet her emotional state will be quite worst being on her own!" he shook his head.
"a situation like this would require a constant watcher as well as those able to quickly respond to fix the damage done. She can't be put into complete isolation as any kind of magical accident could damage the ecosystem permanently." He mentioned as I started to use this information to come up with different scenarios on how to do this.
"How many would you recommend?" I then asked trusting his judgment. He stayed quiet as he looked towards the door before giving a saddened sigh.
"6 for damage control, 3 specialists to watch over her horn growth and core development… and 10 guards." I was surprised when he brought up the guards. "Before you say anything know this… despite all the things other ponies say, despite the damages she has caused on accident… she is now a princess of Equestria whether those who want her or not even have a say in it. She's going to need to be guarded in this time of need as she won't be able to protect herself properly."
"Can she be sent anywhere?"
"As long as there aren't many ponies around. Preference being in an area where only the group of 21 are staying in an isolated area." Many areas popped in my mind as I either quickly denied it or set it aside as a possible area before I remembered the perfect place…
"How long until she needs to be sent away?" he looked surprised at my quick response to what he just said.
"The sooner the better."
"How long will it take to get together the specialist and those capable of damage control?" I then asked as I needed some form of time frame.
"Trustworthy ones… at least a day. 3 at most should I need to look into those outside of Canterlot." I nodded. 3 days could be enough should I be able to get ponies working on the place right away. "You have an idea of a location your highness?" I nodded with a smile.
"Certainly… it just needs a bit of a remodel."
