Chapter 32
Two-Bit P.O.V.
I helped Angela to the couch and then called Darry. I wasn't sure what to do and his name is the only one that came to mind. Soda answered the phone and I quickly told him to put his brother on the phone. "What happened?"
"I don't have time to explain. Get Darry now." There were very few times the guys had been around me while I was being serious, and I knew this threw Soda. But Sage looked bad, and I didn't have time for his games. Plus, I know Sandy was over there. She would complain about him being on the phone too long anyway.
Darry's voice broke me away from my thoughts, "Two-bit, what's going on?"
"I don't know exactly what happened, but Sage was thrown in the river and looks pretty bad. Her and Angela both looks beat up."
I could hear Darry moving around on the other line, "Put her in a warm bath and I will be there soon. Where are you?"
"Steve and I took them back to Angela's house."
"Alright. I'm on my way." And hung up.
I ran back to the bathroom where Steve took her and was met with him trying to dry her off. "Darry is on his way. He said to put her in a warm bath."
Steve nodded his head and started the bath. I looked over to Sage and saw how blue her lips were. God Dally was going to kill them.
Steve looked back and asked where Tim was. "Fuck. I should go find him. Are you good here?" Steve nodded his head as he took off her clothes leaving her in her bra and underwear. Any other day I might stop and stare, but this wasn't the time for it.
I walked back to the living room and asked Angela if she needed anything before I went to break the news to her brother about what happened. "A blanket and probably some ice or something for my side."
I tossed her a blanket and grabbed a bag of corn for her side. "I will be right back. Holler at Steve if you need anything."
She waved a hand, "Sage needs him more than me right now."
Sage P.O.V.
Steve filled the tub with warm water and told me I needed to take of the shirt and pants. "Is that okay?"
I nodded my head and he helped me strip down. The warm water felt like it was burning my skin and I let out a small whimper.
"I'm sorry, doll. But it needs to happen." I nodded my head and slid down into the tub, sitting in constant pain.
His hand grabbed mine and started rubbing circles on the back of it. "The bath should help. Darry is on his way." I gave him a quick nod and tried to focus on my breathing.
Two-bit P.O.V.
I ran back into the house with Tim right behind me. Darry wasn't too far behind us. Tim took one look at Angela and shook his head. "What the hell happened?"
I watched her look down and fidget with her hands. "We were down at the river with some friends. The soc came out of nowhere and started a fight. We were outnumbered and didn't think too much of it until we heard the splashing in the river. I managed to look down there and saw this big guy drowning Sage. She almost got away from him, but he grabbed her foot before she could get too far. That's where the cut on her face came from. I got away from the guy fighting me and same with another one of our friends. That's when he helped her out and everyone ran off."
Tim had his arms crossed and a stern look on his face. Darry asked why they all ran off.
Angela looked towards the hall where Sage was and shook her head. "I don't know. I guess no one wanted to get in trouble."
No one believed her, but they needed to go see how Sage was doing. Tim gave her a pointed look and told her not to leave the couch.
The three of us walked down the hall and saw Steve trying to calm Sage down. Her face had a deep gnash on her right cheek where she must have hit the rock. Her body was tensed up in pain and Tim noticed. "Dallas is going to kill me." Darry nodded his head in agreeance.
I was glad I wasn't the only one who felt this way. Tim had told us he went to visit Dally the day after he got busted. Dally told him to watch over his sister and to relay that message to the rest of us. It hadn't even been a week and she was already sicker than I've ever seen her.
Sage P.O.V.
"How are you feeling?"
I shook my head as Darry's voice filled the room, "When can I get out of here?"
My eyes were closed, but I assume he was looking me over. "In a few minutes. We need to get your body temperature back up."
I sighed felt Steve squeeze my hand. "How's Angela?"
Two-bit answered, "More worried about you. But she is going to be fine. Some broken ribs." At least we both weren't feeling this way.
Everyone was silent as the minutes drug on. Eventually, Darry let me get out of the bath with the help of Steve. Tim must have brought in some clothes for me at some point. Steve and Darry helped me change into them with trying their hardest to not see me naked.
With the towel wrapped around my waist, Steve held me up since my legs were giving out and Darry slid my wet underwear off and the sweatpants on right after. The top was going to be different. At this point, all I wanted was to sleep. "I don't care. Just. Take it off."
They seemed hesitant, but shut the door leaving the three of us in there. Darry said, "I'll help her stand, if you want to put the new shirt on."
Steve agreed and handed me over to Darry. He gently unhooked my bra and helped take it off. The shirt came next as he snaked it over my arms and head. I was still shaking at this point and they both noticed. Darry told Steve that they needed to get me in bed.
Steve opened the door as Darry picked me up and walked me down the hall. I heard Tim tell them to put me in his room. My eyes were shut the whole time, praying they would finally let me go to sleep. I felt the soft mattress under me, and a thick blanket being placed over me. Darry and Steve were saying something, but the world was fading as the sleep took over.
Two-bit P.O.V.
I sat up as the two of them walked back into the living room. Tim had been pacing ever since he left them in there with Sage. Angela must have gone to her room to avoid her brother. I couldn't blame her. Tim scares me something fierce when he's pissed off.
Darry ran a hand over his face and sat down on the couch next to me. "She isn't going to feel well for the next few days. She was running a fever the whole time, but hopefully sleeping will help some."
Steve shook his head, "I have never seen her that broken before."
Tim crossed his arms and leaned against the wall. "I'd rather not tell Dallas any of this until we have the full story. Something else happened." They all silently agreed.
Darry said he needed to get back home because he had work in the morning. Steve reluctantly had to leave too. "I'll come by after work tomorrow to see her." Steve had said as he walked out the door.
I looked at Tim and saw how tired he was. "You good if I crash on your couch tonight? If either of the girls need me, I can help out."
Tim nodded his head and showed me where the blankets were. "I am going to check on them. If anyone comes in, tell them to get lost or else."
I nodded my head. I knew Tim meant business when he said that and felt bad for anyone who dared to cross him when he was like this.
Tim P.O.V.
I walked down the hall and looked in on my sister to make sure she was sleeping. Her side was bandaged, and the bag of corn had fallen to the ground. I went and picked it up to put it on the dresser. It was taking a lot of effort not to drag her out of bed and beat the full truth of what happened out of her.
I sighed and walked back out to my room and saw Sage curled up in a ball on the bed. She was shivering and I knew I needed to do something.
With Two-bit on the couch, I figured the only place to sleep was in my own bed. I closed the bedroom door, took off my shirt and shoes, and slid into bed next to her. I could already feel how cold she was and wrapped an arm round her waist, pulling her close to me so her body was flush with mine. I could feel her stir a little, but no signs of waking up.
This was going to be an awkward conversation in the morning, but I couldn't let her freeze to death.
