Chapter 2
Dance Practice
As soon as the school day ended, Molly and Libby said goodbye to each other before they returned home. After Libby got in the car with her mom, Mrs. Stein-Torres began her drive back home.
"So, how was school today, Libby?" Mrs. Stein-Torres asked her daughter.
"School was fine, but there is something I want to talk to you about." Libby explained. "Do you know about the school dance this Friday? Well, Molly asked me to go with her to the dance."
Just as Libby would have expected, her mother reacted with complete enthusiasm.
"She did? Libby, that's wonderful! It is so romantic that your girlfriend asked you out to the dance!"
Libby nodded. "It is. The only problem is that I don't know how to dance, so I kind of invited Molly to come over tomorrow so we can practice dancing together. I hope you don't mind."
"Oh, I don't mind. I don't think you have anything to worry about either, Libby." Mrs. Stein-Torres assured. "After all, Molly is so lucky to go to the dance with you."
"Thanks, Mom! But to be honest, I feel like the lucky one!" Libby smiled as she happily thought about Molly throughout the car ride.
Meanwhile, Molly, Scratch, and Darryl were returning home from school as Molly was telling her brother what happened at school earlier today.
"Whoa! You really asked Libby out to the dance?" Darryl asked, surprised.
"Yeah! She did so even after I told her that Libby might not want to go." Scratch pointed out. "It turned out I was right!"
"Hey, Libby just needs some encouragement! I'm sure that she will feel more confident after dance practice tomorrow!" Molly assured.
It wasn't long before Molly and Darryl reached their house. They opened the front door as their parents took notice and they greeted them.
"Hey, kids! How was school today?" Pete asked his children.
"Oh, today was pretty interesting because Molly just asked Libby out to the school dance!" said Darryl.
Hearing this caused Molly's parents to gasp in surprise. They both felt so happy for Molly as this was the first time she had gone to a school dance.
"Really? That's great, Molly?" Pete exclaimed. "So, Libby said yes?"
"Um, not exactly. Libby and I agreed to practice dancing with each other so she would feel more comfortable about the dance." Molly explained.
"Well, I hope that you would be able to help her gain confidence soon. The dance is only in a few days." Sharon pointed out.
"Don't worry, Mom! I already know that perfect way to prepare for dance practice with Libby!" Molly assured with a smile.
Later that night, Scratch got himself something to eat before he returned to Molly's room. As he entered the attic, he was surprised to find books scattered all across the floor. Each of them were books related to teaching people how to dance. He then brought his attention to Molly who was reading a book titled, 'Dance Tips For Dummies.'
"Molly? What is all of this about?" Scratch asked.
As she noticed her ghost friend, Molly closed the book before she jumped off the bed.
"Hi, Scratch! I was just reading as many books as possible to help me get ready for my dance practice with Libby!" Molly explained.
This surprised Scratch as he had never seen Molly this focused before.
"You are taking this dance really seriously aren't you? I don't know why you are so worried about this. I've seen you dance before." Scratch explained.
"I know, but this is the school dance, Scratch. There are different kinds of dances that I still haven't done before like slow dances." Molly blushed at the idea of slow dancing with Libby.
"Just make sure you don't keep me up as you dance. Even ghosts need to sleep."
With that, Scratch disappeared into the dollhouse before he went to sleep. Molly then spent the next couple of hours reading her books before going to bed as well.
After school ended the next day, Libby walked Molly over to her home, where they would begin their dance practice. As they entered the bookshop, Mrs. Stein-Torres greeted them with a smile.
"Oh, hello, Molly! It's good to see you!"
"It's good to see you too, Mrs. Stein-Torres." Molly replied.
"I just want to thank you for asking out Libby to the dance. I'm sure that you've made her so happy!" Mrs. Stein-Torres smiled.
With a blush, Libby decided to speak up. "Anyway, we can have our dance practice up in my room. Follow me, Molly!"
At that moment, Libby led Molly up the stairs before they entered Libby's bedroom. As Molly looked around, she noticed that Libby rearranged some of her furniture to give the two of them room to dance. Once they were ready, the two girlfriends faced each other as they got ready to dance with each other.
"So, are you ready, Molly?" Libby asked.
Molly nodded. "Yes, I am. Let's start off with the first dance."
Libby then turned on some music as she held on to Molly's hands. Right as Molly and Libby started off the dance, they only managed to take a few steps before they ended up tripping. This caused Libby to fall on the floor before Molly landed on top of her. Once she recovered, Molly awkwardly looked away from Libby.
"Sorry, Libby! Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, Molly!" Libby shyly looked away from Molly as well.
"Good! So, do you want to get back to practice?"
"Yes, but can I do one thing before we continue?"
Before Molly could ask Libby what she meant by that, she was caught off guard when Libby suddenly gave Molly a kiss on the lips. Molly soon smiled before she kissed Libby on the lips as well. They soon got back up as they continued dancing.
After every passing hour, Molly and Libby started to get better with dancing with each other. Molly even ended the dance with a twirl before she held Libby in one arm, similar to when she briefly danced with Libby on the day of the talent show. They both stood in awkward silence before they both began to smile.
With a blush Libby said, "Molly, can you please let me down now?"
"Oops! Sorry!" Molly blushed as well before she let Libby down.
As she stood back up, Libby asked, "Are there any other dances you would like to practice with me?"
"Actually, I was kind of hoping we might be able to do a slow dance together."
"Slow dance?" Libby repeated. "I don't think I've ever done a dance like that before."
"It's okay! I haven't really tried it either! We can figure it out together!" Molly smiled.
"Okay! What do we do first?" Libby asked as she got ready for the next dance.
"I believe that one of us should wrap an arm around the others waist as we hold each other's hand." Molly explained, feeling slightly awkward about the situation.
Despite that, Libby was willing to give it a try. She let Molly wrap her arm around her before the two of them grabbed on to each others hand. It was at that moment when they took a few tiny steps as they started to dance slowly to the rhythm of the music. Normally, Libby would feel intimidated with learning a dance she is not experienced with, but being with Molly eased her worries.
As they danced with each other, Molly and Libby started to get lost in each others eyes. The music soon stopped as Molly and Libby's dance came to an end. After practicing all day, Libby felt more confident than ever.
"Thank you, Molly! Dancing with you has really made me feel more comfortable about Friday." Libby smiled.
"So, does that mean you would like to go with me to the dance?" Molly asked, feeling hopeful.
Libby nodded. "Yes! I would love to go to the dance with you, Molly!"
Overjoyed by Libby's answer, Molly hugged Libby tightly before Libby hugged her back. This ended up being one of the best moments of Molly's life.
After awhile, Molly's family showed up to pick her up. Molly soon waved goodbye to Libby before she entered her family's van. As her family drove back home, Molly happily counted down the days until the night of the school dance.
