Chapter 2

Temperance walked into Seeley's hospital room and she found him, lying asleep in his hospital bed. She couldn't help but feel slightly uncomfortable at the sight of Seeley lying in bed, wearing an oxygen mask. He looked vulnerable. She had never realised how much she was used to seeing him daily. Deciding to stay for a while to see if he would wake up soon, she took a seat on the chair next to his bed and got comfortable. As he slept, she decided this would be a good time to read her short story to him.

"People say you only live once…."

She told him the story that she had written about how their lives were completely different, they were married and they owned a nightclub. She told him of how a body was found in their nightclub and how Cam Saroyan was a detective, and how the interns had different functions within the nightclub, how Sweets worked for them as a bartender. As she began to wrap up the story of how they had worked together to find out that the murderer was and how her dad had been involved.

"…..When you see two people, you know that they belong together"

As she finished narrating her story, she could see that he was starting to wake up, she leaned forward and watched as Seeley's eyes flickered open.

"Hey" she whispered.

"Hi" his voice was raspy from disuse.

"I heard that the operation was a success and they were able to remove all of the tumour. Looking from your charts you are healing well from the operation and recovering from your coma".

Seeley looked amused and said "I am glad to hear that Doctor, now only if you could spring me from this place"

"You can't be serious; you need still need to meet the physiotherapist and you still have to have your psychological assessment done. Before you can be allowed to go home" Temperance looked and sounded completely serious and disapproving at the thought of him leaving the hospital against the doctor's advice.

"You don't need to worry, Bones. I had my first physio this morning and that's why I was sleeping, the first session completely wiped me out"

Temperance nodded "Did you know that physiotherapy is an integral part of treatment after a traumatic brain injury or after surgery as it rehabilitates the nerves in the brain and it also improves the function of the limbs" as she leaned back into the chair and watched Seeley.

Seeley slowly turned himself so that he could face Bones without having to continuously twist his neck. "Yh I heard something similar myself" he said with a small grin.

"You can't possibly comfortable in that position" said Temperance, frowning at the grimace that passed Seeley's face.

"No, I am not" agreed Seeley, as he looked for the remote for the bed to help him sit up. Temperance pointed it out for him, once it was in his hand, he slowly positioned the bed so that he could face Bones without having to twisting himself into a pretzel.

"I have decided that I don't want o have baby at the moment but if I do, I still want you to be the father" Temperance piped up. Seeley looked completely stunned.

However, before he could say anything the door to his room opened and small blur came running in screaming "DADDY". Temperance watched as the little boy zoomed to the other side of Seeley's hospital bed, she looked towards the door and found a young, tiny, blonde hair woman with green eyes. The woman at the door smiled as she watched the reunion between father and son, Temperance couldn't help but wonder if she was the babysitter.

Seeley looked at his son in fondness, as he held onto his hand while talking a mile a minute, he chatted about his school, Buffy, places where Bea has been taking him. While he listened to Conner, he smiled gratefully at Buffy who was still standing by the door. Frowning slightly at the sight of her standing at the door, Seeley motioned for her to come in.

Buffy smiled at him and walked over and stood behind Conner and placed her hands on his shoulders. Conner stopped talking and looked up at Buffy, pulled her hand until she leaned down and he whispered something into her ear, Seeley watched as she smiled as she listened to what Conner was saying to her. Once Conner finished talking, he stared at Buffy earnestly, she moved her mouth next to his ear and whispered to Conner, as he listened, Conner would nod along to what she was saying. Once she finished, Conner nodded and Buffy quickly lifted him in her arms, and walked forward towards the bed, now understanding what Conner wanted, Seeley moved over slightly, so Buffy could deposit Conner next to him. Seeley kissed the top of his son's head and pulled him closer, knowing that his son didn't complete understand what was happening.

Buffy lingered close to the bed and once Angel was facing her, she quickly pulled him for a kiss, Angel pulled her face closer by placing his hands on her cheeks. Buffy finally pulled away and rested her forehead on Angel's and she whispered "Hi"

"Hey" whispered Angel roughly.

After watching the scene in front of her, Temperance felt a little uncomfortable, and she cleared her throat hoping to get the attention of Seeley and the woman he was kissing. Hearing the sound of throat clearing, caused both Buffy and Seeley whip their heads towards Temperance. It was clear that Seeley had forgotten that she was there, and the blonde woman didn't look at all uncomfortable being caught kissing Seeley.

"Oh right, Bones, I forgot that you were there" Seeley cleared his throat awkwardly and then said "Bones, this is Buffy, Buffy this Dr Temperance Brennan, we work together"

Buffy held out her hand and said "Hi nice to finally meet you. I have heard a lot about you"

Temperance shook Buffy's hand and "It's nice to meet you too, but I have never heard anything about you"

"I am not surprised" Buffy said with a small grin, like she knew something that Temperance didn't know.

"How do you two know each other?" Temperance questioned.

Seeley and Buffy looked at each other, Seeley wasn't sure what to say, but Buffy had a small grin on her face as she answered Temperance's question, "I have known Angel since I was in high school, we met up again when you were in England for your lecture, once he found out that I was moving back here, we decided to try again"

"Try again?" Temperance wondered, before it clicked for her, "Oh I see. You are in a relationship"

"Yeah Bones, that what she meant"

"Angel? Why do you call him Angel? If you don't mind me asking?"

Before Buffy said anything, Seeley jumped in and said "It's because of tattoo that I have"

"I never knew you had a tattoo"

"You never asked"

"I love that tattoo; he's had it as long as I have known him" both Buffy and Angel shared a grin in memory.

Temperance was starting to feel uncomfortable as she saw the grin that Seeley and Buffy shared, and she wanted to quickly change the topic. However, before she could say anything a small voice piped up.

"Daddy, when are you coming home?"

Before they could answer a sound of a throat clearing caused all three of looked up towards where the sound came from, seeing the Doctor standing at the door watching them, Buffy moved back. The doctor looked slightly disapprovingly at Buffy after seeing Conner sitting next to Seeley. Buffy gave her a small shrug, causing the Dr Green to shake her head.

"I believe that I can answer that" Dr Green as walked over and smiled at Conner, "You should have your dad home playing with you by the end of the week"

"Yes" Conner and Seeley both bumped their fists in happiness.

"I am glad but Mr Booth you will still need to take it easy and for the rest of the week you will need to work with the physiotherapist so they can also sign off your discharge." As Dr Green checked the Seeley's chart, "but for now it looks like you are healing well, I going to leave you to your guests, but make sure he gets some rest" the doctor said to Buffy.

Buffy nodded in agreement, whereas Temperance waited until the doctor left and then she gathered her things. "Well I should be leaving too, you should get some rest and have some time with your son".

"Oh right, yeah see you Bones"

"It was nice to meet you, Temperance"

"You too Buffy. Bye Conner"

"Bye" came a distracted reply as Conner continued to talk to his dad about the things they will do once Seeley was home.

Temperance walked over to the door, before she looked back, she saw a small family. Buffy had moved to seat on the edge of the bed. Both she and Seeley were smiling, glancing at each other and listening to Conner's plans. They looked like a couple, and like proud parents.
