Chapter 3

A Few Days Later

Seeley was watching some of the crappiest daytime TV while waiting for Buffy, he had just had his last physio session. He had been told that he could be going home soon, and he couldn't wait to go and spend some time with his son.

"Hey Booth"

Seeley looked up to see Sweets standing by the door, "Hey Sweets, what you doing here?"

Sweets came in to the room and took a seat next his hospital bed.

"Dr Green asked me to come in and evaluate you to see if you can be discharged" Sweets took in the drawings that surrounded Booth's bed and books for him to read. Sweets cleared his throat and "So, how are you doing Booth?"

Booth glared at him lightly, "I have a hole in my head. How the hell do you think I am doing?"

"Yeah that wasn't the best question to start from was it?" Sweets chuckled lightly and rubbed the back of his neck. "So, anyway, how this is going to work is that I will ask you a few routine questions and see how you respond"

Booth nodded in agreement, "Yeah sure, sounds great".

"Right, so what was the last memory you have before you woke here?"

"The last memory I have is talking to Stewie Griffin"

"Stewie Griffin? Can I ask why him?"

"I think it's because I was watching Family guy the night before" Seeley said, remembering how he had sat in front of the TV after getting home that night. Bea had already put Conner to bed before he even got home.

"Do you understand what has happened since you have come to the hospital?"

Seeley sat up and looked over at Sweets and sighed heavily before answering the question, "Yeah Sweets I understand, I had a brain tumour which was removed the same night and I was put in to a medical induced coma. I however did not wake up when they took me out of the medical come when I should have and was in coma for longer than necessary".

"One of the nurses was concerned that you didn't know why your emergency contact was who they are?"

Seeley sighed "That was taken out of context, I know who my emergency contact is, the reason that I was shocked is because I wasn't the person who set up my emergency contact. So, when Buffy turned up, I was shocked".

"Who is Buffy? And more to the point why did you not set up your emergency contact?"

"Buffy is someone from my past and to be honest Sweets that none of your business".

Sweets looked at Booth, trying to assess what he meant by Buffy being part of his past, "Is that a good thing or bad thing?" he questioned. He watched as smile came across Booth's face, the smile reaching his eyes.

"Buffy….." Booth started, but he trailed off trying to figure out the best way answer Sweet's question, "She is good thing, I have missed her, I didn't realise how much until I saw her standing at the door" Booth nodded over to his hospital door.

"So why were you so surprised to see her?" Sweets asked finally getting to the question.

Booth looked at him like he was nuts, "I had major brain surgery I am allowed to forget a few things and I haven't seen her for a few years".

Sweets nodded in agreement, "True, do you remember the last case you were working on?"

"Uh yes I think so, wasn't there a body found in a wine barrel and I was interviewing a suspect when I started to hallucinate".

Sweets nodded and he took out a paper and pen from his jacket pocket and opened the paper and ticked a few things off and signed the bottom of the paper, Seeley watched him in confusion. Seeing the look on Booth's face, Sweets smiled and said, "This paper states that you, Booth are mentally fit and I agree that you can be released from hospital with a co-sign from your doctor".

"That's great, Sweets" Booth sighs in relief.

Its was late in the evening, but here he was finally getting discharged from the hospital. It took a few more days after Sweets had signed off on his discharge because he had to wait for his physio therapist to sign off his discharge as well. Seeley watched as Buffy listened intently to the nurse as she explained the medication that he has been given. Conner was sitting on the wheel chair that was brought in by one of the porters, Conner was currently trying to get the wheelchair to move but so far, he hadn't managed to turn the wheels.

Seeley smiled as he continued to pack up the rest of the drawings that Conner had made for him during his stay at the hospital, but finally here he was getting ready to go home. Once Buffy finally finished up her talk with the nurse, just as he was zipping up his bag when she came over to him, "Ready to go home?"

Seeley grinned at her and said "More than ready"

"Well then your chariot awaits" Buffy grinned at him as she brought the wheelchair over, with Conner still sitting unit. Seeley groaned; he hated the idea of sitting in a wheelchair. Buffy nudged Conner out of the chair, while Seeley tried to think of an excuse so he didn't have to sit on the wheelchair.

"Oh, come on, do I really need to sit in that wheelchair?" moaned Seeley

"Sorry Agent Booth but hospital protocol states that all patients being discharged have to use the wheelchair" stated Dr Green, as she entered the room.

Seeley groaned out in disappointment, while Buffy and Conner laughed at the look on Seeley's face, causing Dr Green and the nurse to smile at the cute scene in in front of them. Conner hopped out of the wheelchair and stood next to Buffy. Buffy gave Seeley a slight look, letting him know that he wouldn't be able to get away with whatever he was planning next. Seeley smiled at Buffy and Conner before slowly hopping into the wheelchair.

"There are you happy now" he pouted.

"Daddy you are so funny" laughed Conner.

"Here, come and sit on daddy's lap" Seeley patted on his lap, Conner looked at Buffy to see if he could, Buffy in turn looked at Seeley to make sure that he is ok before she smiled and nodded. Conner grinned and carefully sat on his dad's lap. Buffy picked up Seeley's bag and hooked it the back of the wheelchair, and then took handles of the wheelchair and started to push Seeley and Conner out of the room after thanking the nurse and Dr Green for all their help.

Finally, Seeley lay down on his be with Conner next to him and with Buffy standing at the door, he patted the side of his bed, inviting Buffy to come and join the two of them.

Buffy shook her head and said "Dinner first, then I will join you guys"

"Are you cooking?" Seeley asked in mock horrified voice.

"Hey" Buffy called out, "I will have you know that I have gotten better and I was thinking that we could get a pizza".

"PIZZA" yelled out Conner, agreeing with Buffy's suggestion.

Seeley grinned and nodded, "Pizza sounds like heaven".

Buffy snorted, "Of course it does, I have seen what they were passing off as food at the hospital" she then smiled and said, "So, Pepperoni and cheese good?"

"Sounds good" "Yep" came the reply.

"Daddy can we play?"

Buffy left the father and son to talk and have chance to catch up while she went off to order their dinner. She could hear Conner running off to his room and rummaging around in there. Once she ordered their food, she got some drinks for them and headed back to Seeley's bedroom. Where she found the father and son pair setting up Monopoly for them to play.

"Oooh I want to be the hat" she announced as she went to sit down at the end of the bed, she handed a glass of water to Seeley and the tray in the middle between her and Conner. So, they could reach their drinks easily.

"I am the car, daddy what do you want to be?"

"I want to be the hat"

"nuhuh, Buffy said it first. Plus, you said ladies should choose first" Conner countered, causing Buffy to smile.

"But I am sick" Seeley fake whined, while winking at Buffy.

"Daddy you be the boot, or the dog" Conner held out the pieces for Seeley to choose from. Seeley looked at the pieces in front of him and let out a huge sigh and said, "Fine, I will be the dog". The three of them played, while having their pizza and until Conner and Seeley started yawning.
