Chapter 7: Mission Done
"Would you look at that Goldilocks… no one's coming to help you…" Shego mocked. She'd clearly noticed that Ron and Kim were sitting on the sidelines, having finished dealing with the goons.
Tara wasn't foolish enough to take her eyes off the dangerous woman, simply raising an eyebrow at her. "Does it look like I need help? I can pretty much deal with you by myself… I bet they're here to enjoy the show." Tara's cocky response earned a frown from the green-skinned woman. "Also… trying to distract me with one of the oldest tricks in the book? Actually, that sounds pretty fitting… coming from you."
"Okay, you know what? I'm not going to kill you, but the first chance I get, I'll make sure to leave a nice fat mark on your pretty little face" Shego threatened.
"If you can even hit me, that is…" Tara mocked again.
"I guess I'll have to remind you… what happened last time." That final barb earned a frown from the blonde teen, still annoyed by the distinctive burn mark on her shirt.
Both rushed to engage one another once more. Shego swatted at the air, aiming at the blonde's face, trying to wipe the smirk off of Tara. Said blonde girl maintained her offensive, throwing her own punches and kicks.
Ron and Kim kept watching, the redheaded teen finding it normal to see Tara so strong and determined.
Ron, on the other hand, was still marveling at the sight of the blonde teen. A girl who had once been so shy and meek, now fighting like Kim from his own time. Tara was incredible… So much so, that he couldn't help but stare at her.
"Hello? Earth to Ronnie?" Upon his failure to respond to her words, Kim waved her hand in front of his face.
"Sorry, what's up?" he asked.
"I was just thinking that maybe we should use this chance to find Drakken… Or you can keep gawking at Tara, your call…" Kim prodded, glancing away.
"I was hardly staring at her like that… But, yeah, good idea" Ron responded, before opening his communicator.
After a quick conversation with Wade, Ron had learned what they needed to do to deactivate Drakken's machine. But before they could do so, the two crime-fighters suddenly heard a familiar laughter echoing all around them.
"So glad you could be here, Team Impossible. You're just in time to watch me complete my evil plan!" Mad laughter swelled, one of the walls was suddenly breached. A huge metallic robot burst in, red in color and sporting a huge screen on its torso.
"Konichiwa!" the robot boomed, a smiling face appearing on its screen.
"Well… that's new…" Kim commented. She pulled out her grappling hook, preparing to move in the event of an attack.
'Not really… but I guess it is for you…' Ron thought to himself, but said nothing on the matter. "Let me guess… your master plan is to steal Christmas!" the blonde boy accused.
The blue-skinned man froze for a moment, his laughter fading. "What? No! It's for taking over the world! Obviously!" he shouted back.
"Ha! Called it!" Kim declared with pride from next to the blonde boy.
"You still have no imagination!" Tara's called out, even as she continued to grapple with Shego.
"Oh, shut up you!" Kim shot back in annoyance.
"And now, when I have only the two of you to deal with, victory has never been closer!" The mad man was pulled inside of the robot, the machine starting to move. Its huge hands morphed into two cannons, one on each arm. The smiling face on the screen didn't detract from the danger the robot posed.
It fired at them a few dozen times, the two partners running and jumping on the many crates and boxes around them. They proceeded to use everything around them as cover.
Ron and Kim's communicators started going off, both answering right away. Bonnie's face appeared, she was next to a large control panel of some kind. "Guys, I found the power supply! Do you still need me to disconnect it?" she inquired.
"Perfect timing, Bonbon! We could really use your help!" Ron called over his device, continuing to jump around.
"Leave it to me, Ronnie!" the brunette declared proudly, she turned to the hairless rodent on her shoulder. "Alright Rufus, let's shut this place down!"
Her words inspired the little creature to salute her, like a soldier to his commander, before he jumped from her shoulder. Rufus landed on the panel, munching and ripping away at every wire he could reach.
'SO cute!' the brunette beauty silently squealed, watching him working so hard to assist. 'I'll have to get the little guy something special, for always helping out!' she decided, certain that the other girls and Ron would agree.
There was a sudden sound of a brownout, the lights dimming before they stopped working altogether. "Yes! Good job, Rufus!" she called out. The small hairless rodent nodded, before climbing her leg and slipping inside of her pocket.
"The power is down! How are things on your end?" Bonnie asked.
"Not very good! That thing must have an internal battery, or something!" Kim elaborated, still busy avoiding more blasts that would have ended her. Luckily, they were too slow to hit their target.
Ron struggled to recall the time Team Possible had been in this situation, it became clear to him the more he looked around. "KP! I'll keep it busy! Look around its back!" the blonde boy called out to her over her Kimmunicator.
Kim would have argued with him in the past, but now knew to trust her partner when she needed to. In a great feat of acrobatic skill, the redheaded teen grappled around the robot's head. She would have paid dearly for the attempt, if not for Ron's distraction. Kim quickly glanced around, but saw nothing that would be able to shut the smiling machine down. "There's nothing here, Ronnie!" Kim called out, informing him of her findings. A huge metal arm approached her to swat her off. In response she stopped moving, jumping back. Metal scraped against metal, revealing a large port. "Never mind!" she shouted, before jumping towards it. She connected her Kimmunicator to the machine in a moment, backing away in case she was swatted off. She had no cause to worry, as her blonde male partner made sure to keep annoying the blue-skinned man who was controlling their mechanical adversary. "Wade, I've connected to the robot! Any chance you could do something about it?"
"Sure, just give me a minute!" the younger boy responded. He started typing on his keyboard, attempting to gain control of the machine or shut it off. His efforts proved futile, encountering a massive firewall. "It's no good guys! The robot's password protected, I can't crack it!" he explained.
'Why does that sound so familiar?' Ron wondered, staring at the smiling face of the robot. "Wade! Try to type in konichiwa!" Ron ordered, freezing in place.
"What are you babbling about?!" Drakken questioned, aiming one of the robot's arm-cannons at the blonde boy. "This is the end, Ron Stoppable!" the madman shouted. He began charging the weapon, laughing madly.
"Ronnie!" Kim yelled, staring at the massive cannon. It was about to fire on her best friend, he wasn't even attempting to move out of the way. Her horror subsided, then vanished completely, as the weapon suddenly powered off. It dropped down, the robot moving without Drakken guiding it.
"Got it! I'm in control!" Wade declared, smiling. The mad blue-skinned man was pulled out, now stranded hanging in front of Ron. The blonde boy grinned at the older man.
"Booya!" the blonde boy shouted victoriously, Drakken sulked in response.

Team Impossible was now on their way home, their mission complete. Drakken was behind bars, with Shego on the run, they considered it a win. The teen heroes had also avoided destroying the machine that had been stolen from the toy factory. That had proven to make Mr. Natsui even happier, seeing his machine still intact and ready for work.
The businessman had been more than happy to give them a ride on his personal jet, it was the least he could do to repay them for their help. Ron would have liked to have said that he'd taken the time to relax on the way back. But, sadly, he never got the chance. The three girls scowling at him made him far more nervous than the battle with a giant robot had!
"So… do you have anything to say for yourself?" Bonnie challenged, leading the small inquisition.
"Umm… I'm not sure what you mean, Bonbon" Ron admitted, a bit confused.
"Really, Ronnie?" Tara shot back, moving closer to the boy. "Kim told us what you did earlier, while Bonnie and I were busy…" the blonde beauty pouted, looking almost TOO adorable.
"Still… I'm not sure what I did, that's so-" Ron tried, Kim cutting him off.
"You just stood there!" the redhead declared in frustration. "While we were supposed to keep Drakken busy, you suddenly stopped moving and gave Drakken a free shot at you!"
"Ah, that…" Ron chuckled for a moment. The first time he'd gone against the robot (as part of Team Possible), it had been KIM who'd frozen. She'd ended up completely fine, as Wade had saved the day (as he had today). Sadly, the girls didn't approve of his appreciation of the irony.
"It's not funny! If Wade hadn't taken control in time, you could have been hurt…" Tara added, her tone alone more than enough to make him hang his head in shame. While his experience in Team Possible had left him positive that nothing would happen to him, his fate hadn't seemed so certain to all of them.
"Why didn't you move?" Kim asked suddenly.
"What?" the blonde ex-sidekick responded in confusion.
"I asked why didn't you bother to move, I know you could have…" the redheaded teen continued.
What was he supposed to say? Was he just going to be honest and tell them the truth? No, that was out of the question… he only had one option at the moment. "Umm… I just trusted my instincts on that one, sorry if I worried you" he replied honestly. Ron considered claiming that he'd trusted Wade to come through, but that wouldn't be fair towards the younger boy.
His answer didn't seem to please them, but they at least seemed to calm down a bit. Though they continued to stare at him anyway, a hint of annoyance on their faces. Ron could only hope that he would be able to appease them, somehow.
The boy couldn't help but look over the girls. Tara was talking to Kim. Bonnie was playing with Rufus, the little guy seemed to like her a lot. But that was probably because she frequently fed him, especially when she thought Ron wasn't looking.
They finally returned to Middleton, all of them arriving at Kim's home. They often met up there, as it was the most centrally-located house out of the four. As they all looked at one another, Team Impossible couldn't help but feel pride in a job well done.
"Great job, girls!" Ron congratulated. They all smiled at his praise, glancing away shyly. "We even managed to finish in record time, because of you!" the blonde boy praised.
"Ah… thanks Ronnie!" Bonnie responded, smiling. She glanced at him.
"Don't think that you can butter us up, mister!" the redheaded teen warned, pointing at him. "We're still angry with you over that stunt you pulled, so don't think you can just talk your way out of it."
"You can keep buttering ME up, Ronnie!" Tara declared, hugging his arm.
"Tara, no! We're supposed to stick together on this!" Kim chided.
"But you know I can't stay mad at Ronnie…" the blonde girl whined, pouting.
"Actually, I don't remember you ever getting angry in the first place…" Bonnie pointed out weakly.
Ron started chuckling to himself. 'Yep, still the same…' Speaking of angry, he couldn't help but recall Tara's little spat with Shego. She'd been furious at the time. He suddenly remembered something, glancing at his Ronunicator just to confirm it.
"Sorry girls… I have something I need to take care of. I'll see you later, okay?" the blonde informed. He bid them all goodnight, before he started walking home alone. Rufus was supposed to stay with Tara today, as it was her turn to keep the hairless rodent company. The girls themselves were the ones who'd offered the idea of rotating who took care of the little guy… he didn't mind at all!
After a short walk, the blonde boy arrived at his home. He almost immediately took to his bed, picking up his phone.
…
"So… where were we?" asked Bonnie, looking at her two best friends.
After Ron's hasty exit, they'd all decided to have a little get-together. They usually did, after a successful mission. Kim's home was the prime destination of their girl's-night-ins.
"We were just about to discuss how Tara lost to Shego!" Kim replied from her spot on her computer chair. The declaration instantly drew the blonde teen's attention away from Rufus, who was perched on her shoulder.
"Excuse me?! I didn't lose to anyone!" the blonde cheerleader shot back in anger. The blonde had claimed a spot upon Kim's bed, both she and Bonnie laid on their stomachs and played with the naked mole rat.
"Really now?" Kim scoffed, the smirk on her face too big to hide. "It's surprising that you can say that… considering she managed to get away… Especially since she'll probably break Drakken out again."
"That's doesn't mean it's my fault… that bitch had a beating coming! And I was just about dish it out, when the lair started collapsing" Tara explained, before glancing away.
"Let me guess… it's because she came onto Ronnie again?" Bonnie asked, the blonde girl nodding in conformation. "Tara…"
"What? Don't tell me it doesn't annoy both of you too" the blonde girl accused.
"No, I feel you on that…" Kim admitted. "Every time she does it, I want to take care of her myself!" The girls all thought the behavior was odd. Ever since the first few missions they'd run into the green-skinned villainess, the older woman had displayed clear interest. She always tried to make Ron turn to a life of crime, to come over to her side.
They didn't appreciate it, at all…
Ron assured them that he would never embrace that kind of life, that they shouldn't worry about it. The girls DID believe him, but that didn't mean they enjoyed seeing the woman proposition him every chance she got! "But, acting like that?" Kim looked at the blonde girl. "What do you think he would have said, if he'd heard you talking like you were? You're lucky Bonnie and I stopped you when we did…"
Tara looked down. "I know… thanks girls…" she replied, sounding a bit better.
"It's fine… Lucky for us, he's as dense as he always is!" Bonnie added, making them all laugh.
After they all calmed down, Kim got up from her seat and looked at her two friends. "Okay… So, now that we got that out of the way, I believe that we need to discuss something else?" the redheaded teen prompted, her friends nodding at her.
"The dance…" both Tara and Bonnie said at the same time.
"Right! So, what's the plan?" Kim asked.
"I was thinking that I should go with him!" Tara shouted. She instantly earned herself a hit in the back of the head, courtesy of Bonnie.
"Rejected! I've explained it to you before, we need to come to an UNDERSTANDING!" the brunette pointed. She pulled Rufus out of the blonde's grasp, starting to rub his stomach.
"Okay, first off, RUDE… Secondly, you didn't even let me finish! I meant that I would go with him to THIS dance, and one of you would take him to the NEXT! See?! It's a win-win!" The blonde girl was smiling far too much at the thought.
"Yeah… I think that it's better that I go with him first. You know, with us knowing each other longer than you two…" Bonnie responded, an annoyed look sprouting on Tara's face.
"It doesn't matter who was first, it matters who he'll say yes to!" Kim added.
The girls all stared at each other, as if sizing up their opponents. It was the same argument that they'd had repeatedly over the last few days, every one of them had the same thought in mind. 'Whoever goes with him first could become something more…' It was too tempting an opportunity to even CONSIDER backing down.
They had done their best to ensure that no other girl asked him to the dance. Not until they all came to an understanding, or a compromise. After all, they still had until tomorrow.
X-=-=-=-=-=-=-X
The day of the dance came, the four friends arriving at school. Ordinarily, Ron would have been worried. The girls were all a bit quieter than usual… But, considering what was going on, it was hardly noteworthy. He could clearly see many different couples, talking or holding hands, anticipating the upcoming dance.
The blonde time traveler couldn't help but think back to his previous experience, pleasantly surprised that he could enjoy the social event this time! Looking at the girls, he noticed that they all were all glancing around. 'Are they looking for someone?' he wondered, easily concluding that Kim retained a crush on Josh. Bonnie and Tara, on the other hand… he had no clue.
Team Impossible arrived at their classroom, taking their seats. Ron could swear that the girls were ignoring him. Every attempt to talk to, or even look at, them was met with the same response… Glancing away from him and mumbling something.
'Are they still upset about the mission?' he kept asking himself, wondering if they were giving him the silent treatment.
His question went unanswered, the day continuing like this, until they got to their lunch break.
"Um, guys?" the blonde boy prompted, staring at the three girls around the table.
"What is it, Ronnie?" Bonnie asked, looking up from her meal. In this timeline the brunette girl no longer sat with the bulk of the cheer squad, neither did Tara.
He knew that the food chain didn't truly exist anymore, even if some of the other cheerleaders - or the jocks - were considered too popular to be opposed. Ron was still thankful that his brunette childhood friend wasn't overly concerned with her image.
"Are-Are you still upset with me?" the blonde boy asked. The three girls froze, staring back at him. They didn't LOOK annoyed, only confused.
"Why would we-" It took Kim a moment to remember their last mission. "Oh, n-no… nothing like that, Ronnie. I was- I mean, we were just busy with something-" Kim stammered, she took a deep breath.
She forced herself to meet his eyes, before she opened her mouth. "Ronnie, I was wondering if you-" She never managed to finish, her two female friends cutting her off.
"KIM!" both Bonnie and Tara called out in anger, the redhead stopped and looked at them. "What do you think you're doing? Didn't we agree to ask-" Tara continued, Bonnie nodding at her blonde friend's words.
"But, I just-" Kim tried to deflect, the two other girls glaring at her.
"Um… guys?" the blonde time traveler interjected. All three girls were now ignoring him, in favor of their own discussion. 'What's this about?' he wondered, before noticing someone approach their table.
"Hey Ron…" greeted a female voice.
"Hi Penny!" Ron replied to the blonde girl standing next to his seat. A happy expression overtook his face, recalling his last talk with the young woman.
"S-Say, you got a second?" the girl asked, glancing to the side for a moment.
'Oh… I see…' the blonde time traveler thought, recognizing her expression. 'She's probably regretting agreeing to go with me to the dance…' It wouldn't be the first time that he seemed to catch a lucky break, only for things to fall apart later on. He wasn't too bothered by it… Hell, this was probably harder on HER. After all, she was the one who needed to turn him down. "Sure, what's up?"
"Umm… it's about… the dance" Penny explained, she looked more than a little embarrassed.
"You want to go with someone else?" the blonde boy guessed. He'd rather deal with this bit of unpleasantness as quickly as he could. If she let him do all the talking, at least it would be easier for her.
"What?" She sounded surprised. "N-No, nothing like that! I just wanted to ask you what time should we meet later…" the blonde girl assured, looking confused. "Did you think I wanted to cancel on you?"
Ron was surprised, he scratched his cheek out of embarrassment. "Ah… well, I won't lie. It DID cross my mind…" Luckily for him, that didn't seem to offend her. "So, we're still on for tonight?"
She quickly nodded for conformation. "You bet! So, I'll see you at the dance at eight?" she asked, Ron assuring her that he'd be there. As soon as he did she smiled, cheeks turning rosy. Penny quickly spun around, before darting out of the cafeteria.
'Okay, didn't expect that she'd still want to go with me… Must be something I missed' the blonde boy reasoned. He returned to his food, about to take a bite out of his lunch. "Hum?" Ron suddenly felt someone staring at him. His eyes drifted up to face his three best friends, they were all looking at him.
The girls didn't speak, simply gaping at him, eyes wide.
"What's up, you guys?" he asked, they'd clearly already finished their little argument.
"R-Ronnie… who was that?" Tara asked.
"You mean Penny?" he began. "Well, we talked earlier in the library, we decided to go to the dance together" the blonde time traveler summarized.
"Y-Y-You're going with HER?" Bonnie asked, voice shaking.
Ron nodded once more. "Yeah, apparently neither of us had dates… We were going to skip the dance altogether; but, in the end, she asked me to go with her… It was the oddest thing, too!"
"And you said yes?!" Kim nearly shrieked, he looked at his redheaded friend with a raised eyebrow.
"Umm… yeah? Didn't you hear us talk just now?" the blonde boy replied, a smile appearing on his face. "This is going to be our first school dance! And I'm actually going with someone!" He was pretty excited.
"That's… great!" Kim shot back, her voice a little strained. She looked at her two teammates.
"Y-Yeah… super…" Bonnie chimed in, glancing at the door Penny had disappeared through.
Tara didn't say a word, simply staring past Ron with a faraway look in her eyes. As if she was searching for something. Both Kim and Bonnie glanced at her for a few seconds, before they started to pull Tara away from the table.
"Will you excuse us, Ronnie?" Bonnie said, starting to lead the blonde girl.
"Sure thing! I'll see you guys later!" Ron assured, the girls walking away. "Okay… that was odd, maybe it's something about the cheer squad?" he asked no one. He moved to finish his food, experiencing one of the few times he'd had to himself. 'Tonight is going to be interesting!'
X-=-=-=-=-=-=-X
The school day had ended, most of the students returning to their homes. They were all eager to get ready and come back for the dance, Ron wasn't any different.
He knew that it wasn't anything too grand, as such the option to go in his casual clothes had been extremely tempting. But, ultimately, he'd decided to try something different than his usual getup. He was sporting black, slightly less baggy pants. A pair that still had room for Rufus, as well as his Ronunicator. They were complemented by a tight blue shirt that fit well. This was the first time he'd actually decided to try something different, it was making him just a bit nervous.
The blonde time traveler waited outside of the gymnasium, he could hear the music inside. A few different songs blasted loudly, changing over the course of several minutes while he waited. Ron had experienced difficulty accepting that he would be experiencing this again from a different viewpoint, but had clearly recognized it as a reality now.
He greeted some of the students who passed him as they entered inside. Some classmates, and some acquaintances, but no one too noteworthy. The only slightly embarrassing thing about it had been some of the girls who'd looked at him, giggling slightly before slipping inside. Did he really look that odd?
His thoughts were cut off, noticing someone approaching him in a hurry. "Sorry!" was the first thing Penny said, she came to a stop. The girl had unknowingly followed Ron's lead, dressing in a different getup as well. It consisted of a black skirt, paired with a purple shirt. She didn't have her usual clipboard with her, for obvious reasons.
"It's okay, I just got here myself…" the boy trailed off, before quickly looking her over. "You look great, by the way!" he complimented, after weighing his words.
The blonde girl glanced to the side, clearly embarrassed. "Thank you… you look good too! I half-expected you to show up in your usual outfit." Penny seemed to get some confidence back, turning to look at him.
"I hope it's not too much, I was worried it wouldn't be nice enough" he joked.
"It's… It's more than fine- I mean… let's just go inside!" The blonde girl suddenly grabbed his hand, pulling him through the door.
