In which Dean Thomas does not take kindly to being called an enemy just for being a muggleborn. Or the one where we get the badass Dean Thomas no-one asked for but needed.
Dean Thomas seemed like a quiet boy who just enjoyed life and did not get into any type of well, mischief. He was the kind of student that was well liked in Hogwarts, not terribly bright, no but not a trouble maker. Or so it looked on the surface, yet Dean was smart, on entering the magical world he had thought he had left prejudice behind him, he found out his being a muggleborn just put a large target on his back. So he learned and created a network and in his fifth year he saw which way the wind was blowing and he confided in his father.
Robert Thomas was a minister, a preacher man in Manchester, before that he had been in the SAS and was well versed in weapons of all kinds. The news his son shared with him was disturbing to say the least and so he got together with a few former buddies and agreed to train any muggleborn who wanted to be trained. In this manner Dean had a large army of muggleborns, not all, there were still two hundred who would not heed the call to hid and fight back. Those would suffer badly under Voldemort's reign. However Dean would not and lives would be saved this way. When the ministry fell Dean was at home and Justin was with him.
"So it is time." Justin said, "good thing our fathers are friends and all, so a jolly little war is in order."
"Agreed, first stop is to keep the muggleborn out of Hogwarts." Dean said.
"How do we do that?" Justin asked.
"I have a few friends, before they end up on the platform, we snag them and get them and their families to safety, they will be taught in private how to control their magic." Dean replied, "it will be our first test to see if we are ready for the war to come."
September First was easy, almost too easy as Voldemort was not expecting this. Every muggleborn was herded away from platform 9 ¾ and taken to safety. Part one was complete and it was onto part two; taking out the snatchers and getting the truth out. Pamphlets were dropped all over Diagon Alley, Hogsmeade and wherever one could get them stating the truth about Voldemort, his desire to kill off anything magical that did not conform to him and him alone. That meant anything good and noble had to die. Muggleborns were magic blessed and not magic stealers and that magical Britain was hated and feared by the rest of the world.
Most people hunkered down and hid, but not the Mud Army as Dean called his forces. The taboo made things far too easy for his side as he knew how to finish them off. He would give these pureblood bigots a reason to fear muggleborns. It was easy, hide a force behind simple rune stones in a forest so that the snatchers could not use spells to detect them. Then call out the evil dark lord's name, simple really and it was sad how simple it was. The snatchers fell for the trap time and time again, and time and time again not one made it out alive. Dean hated the killing but it had to be done, he had a skill that most did not, he was very skilled with sword work.
"Dean mate what are you wearing?" Colin asked him one evening.
"Ever heard of Blade from Marvel comics?" Dean asked.
"Yes, oh yes you do look like him in that!" Dennis replied.
It was true, Dean was clad in black leather boots, trousers, protective vest and long black coat. He wore dark glasses that allowed him to see in the dark and his clothing was stiff with protection magic in the form of making it seem like he was not there. Hard to hit what one cannot see or detect after all. Though Dean hated to kill, he hated death eaters even more and used his sword to hue through more than he cared to remember. On one spring day he managed to take down Greyback and his pack with several of his fellow Mud Army.
Voldemort was getting angrier by what was happening, the muggleborn were suppose to die, to be the distraction and the blood offerings he needed to become truly the most powerful mage alive. That the majority of his snatchers were dead and worse, that Greyback was dead angered him beyond belief. He was going to go after them when he got word that Harry had stolen the cup from Hufflepuff and he knew his Horcruxes had been found. He would have to put his revenge on hold as he had to head to Hogwarts to stop Potter from gaining the last.
Yet Dean was two steps ahead, he had managed, with his army to take Hogwarts with ease. While The Carrows were in the great hall, Dean had entered and a fine battle ensued. He fought both at once, his sword flashing and catching spells easily. The students were up against the wall and terrified but hopeful at the same time. What was odd was that Snape was not assisting them at all, he stood watching as Dean removed the heads of the Carrows and turned to him sword out. Snape dropped his wand and knelt before Dean.
"If you believe killing me will be the best course of action, then do so." Snape said.
"No, I need you alive." Dean said, "I have uses for you."
"We all do." Justin said, "should be fun."
"So we are back." Dean said, "those you thought not worthy of magic, of life! What did we ever do to you? You tore us from our homes, told us lies about this world of magic, that it was wonderful and all I see is rubbish and foulness. You are the ones who stole us, we did not ask to come here and you dare call us evil. Well today you have a choice, join with us or die."
"Mr. Thomas these are children ye canno!" McGonagall pleaded.
"Children who would kill or maim someone just because they are not magical, children who delight in hurting others, children who cast me out for my muggle blood!" Justin said, "I am of the peerage and I do not deserve to be hunted like a dog!"
"Who will stand against us?" Dean said, "speak so your blood can join those of these two traitors."
"Why should we believe you?" Pansy asked.
"Let me ask you this, what if it was you, a pureblood that was hunted like I was." Dean asked, "would you think that was right?"
"But the dark lord…"
"Brings nothing but death and destruction, he does not care about you, how many saw your parents come back tortured even when they gave things to the dark lord he wanted?" Justin asked, "how many when they lost a family member because of him were punished?"
"Choose, slavery under him or freedom under us, for we intend to make sure the magical world thrives as it has not done for so long." Dean said, "or die, your choice."
"We will join you." Blaise said, "but you better win or I will kill you myself."
"I will join." Crabbe added.
"Me too." Goyle joined in.
"My parents are already dead as far as I know." Draco said, "I am in, sod the dark lord!"
"Good, so he is coming, all fourth year and younger need to be got to safety, the rest stand and fight with us, and I have a plan."
"So do I." Neville said walking up, "should be fun right?"
When Harry got to Hogwarts with Ron and Hermione, he found a school already getting ready for battle. Dean ushered him into a room where Snape was being held and was bound in magical chains to a chair. He looked a bit out of it and Dean explained how he had used six drops of Vertaserum and Snape was feeling the after effects. McGonagall was there and there was a red handprint on Snape's face, she had slapped him, hard. She was looking very upset and was clad for war, she had armor over her robes and looked more warrior than not.
"It seems that Albus was playing a dark and dangerous game." McGonagall said, "sending you out to hunt down those things!"
"Gringotts is in trouble as well." Flitwick added, "they should have been checking for things like that, so your breakout was legal and they will just have to deal with that and the fines the Goblin nation imposes."
"What is going on?" Hermione asked.
"It seems the headmaster thinks the only way to defeat Voldemort is to have Harry take a killing curse from him." McGonagall said.
"There is another way." Slughorn said looking pale, "well, I know my duty, it will rid the world of this monster once and for all, I will invoke the deeper magic."
"Horace no!" McGonagall said.
"I will do it." Snape said, "I will go and…"
"No, no you will not, I started this and will end it" Slughorn replied, "you are the best potions master I know but you can't you are tied to him."
"Why not let me go?" Harry asked.
"No my dear boy, all I need from you is what is in your scar." Slughorn said, "Pomona, Filius, I will need your help, headmistress you are needed by your school."
"Too right, and make sure that Severus does not kill himself will you." Sprout said.
Dean was not too sure what was going on with all this but he assigned two house elves to guard Snape and then went to see which ones would join them. He needed them to protect the castle for they had power to do just that. Then he walked out to battle and looked at Justin who looked at him. Time for hiding was done and he was here to end this war once and for all. From somewhere "Ballroom Blitz" by the Sweet came on and he grinned, they were here and it was battle time. McGonagall looked at him with a look only a teacher could have.
"By the end of this song he will be gone, here I go!" Dean said.
"I want to state before I go to battle how much I love you my dear headmistress." Justin said, "such a beauty as yours will help me win the tide!"
"That is quite enough of that! Go on now and don't you dare get killed or I will have you in detention!"
The battle was fierce and did not go Voldemort's way at all. For starters he only had a fraction of the force he needed and those here hated him very much. Second one of his top fighters decided that was the time to defect and leave along with his wife. Lucius and Narcissa turned on their former comrades and fought long and hard, they helped trim the field nicely and took down twenty of Voldemort's force each, twenty of his best fighters before they were cut down. Then Slughorn came to the battlefield and Voldemort cast the killing curse at him. He was not aware this made him mortal. Harry came to the battlefield ready to take on Voldemort. Yet he was shoved violently aside by a very angry Severus Snape.
"He is mine!" Snape snarled, "he is done ruining people's lives, today I send him to hell!"
"Severus what is this?" Voldemort said, "I thought you were loyal."
"Oh I am, loyal to a dead friend that yes, I helped cause her death but you, you cast the curse, loyal to avenging her memory and of all those you cost the lives of. If I die today I die a free man, no more will I be a pawn of anyone!"
"Sir I…."
"Shut up Harry! I am the power he knows not! Revenge is mine!"
Dean actually stopped fighting, not that there was much to do and watched Severus Snape battle the evil dark lord. They traded spells back and forth and then two killing curses were shouted out at once and hit true. Severus Snape fell but so too did Voldemort. He was dead and Harry ran to where Snape lay dead, it was then the song ended and the war was truly over. Remus walked up, wounded and with his own strength picked up Severus Snape and walked with him into the school where Harry transfigured a table complete with white cloth and candles and put the dead man on it. Harry cast cleaning spells on his robes and arranged his hands and then his hair in the old Norse tradition guided no doubt by his mother.
"He killed Voldemort, his last act was to kill him." Harry said, "his life was devoted to ridding the world of Voldemort and this he has done. Let us honor him!"
"Hear, hear!" Dean said walking up, "the battle is done and freedom wins today!"
"To freedom and equality!" A badly wounded but still upright Neville said.
Dean looked around at his Mud Army, thousands strong, today Voldemort fell but there was still work to do. So, after a quick meal, they headed out to the ministry to end this. Harry had a spare uniform of the Mud Army, black fatigues with black armor, muggle style. He walked by Dean who strode into the ministry his long back coat billowing behind him. Harry had a cloak added as did Ron, Hermione and Neville. The young adults strode through the ministry and found no resistance, the Aurors knew better. Dean walked into the Wizengamot and walked to where the minister was sitting and tossed him from the seat and sat down taking out a scroll.
"I queen Elizabeth the second of Great Britain ext. ext. do declare one Dean Thomas as lord protector of our magical realms in all of our isles. He is to lead until another fit is elected by any means needed in the old order and to put down all traitors quickly and with mercy." Dean said, "so I am in charge, anyone want to dispute that?"
"How can a mud…" Umbridge started to say but her head rolled on the floor.
"Yes, that was legal, now we are cleaning up things, all laws passed this last year are nul and void as the ministry was held in traitor hands. Now I don't want this job, so let's get the election under way shall we?"
"That was brutal." Ron said.
"I think I am going to have a new bowling ball." Harry said, he was not joking.
"Harry!" Hermione said, "why torment yourself that way? She would make a horrible bowling ball."
"Point, well Bellatrix is as dead as can be, as is a certain snake." Neville said holding the sword of Gryffindor, "seems I really am lord Gryffindor."
"So two days, then vote." Dean said, "in the meantime we are going to clean up around here."
Dean and the Mud Army did clean up, and by cleaning up this meant that all who still followed Voldemort were put to death. This was legal per the charter set up when the statute went into place. Dean hated killing, he really did but he saw no other option, the old order had to be cleared out, that was all there was to it. Two days later, Kingsley Shacklebolt was elected as minister and Dean left, he wanted away from war and away from all the bad memories. Yet he would not abandon his friends and so he stayed and helped reform the world. Which was far more his style, though he still liked dressing as Blade and going to comic-con though that was story for a different day.
