Series 3, Episode 12, pt 2 ~ House of Sisters

The cleanup detention was taking far longer than Jerome had thought it would. He was sure they wouldn't be leaving the school building until it was dark out at the rate he and Willow were going.

"Jerome, I must-ache you a question!"

Jerome turned around to see Willow holding a fake curly moustache to her face with a smile on her face. At least one of them was enjoying the time in detention at least. He couldn't help the small laugh that left his mouth as she wiggled her eyebrows at him. he knew he was being a grump, but his Camilla win over plan had backfired with no end goal in sight – thanks to the blackmail he had been reminded was currently hanging over him.

The small laugh caused a bright smile to flit onto Willow's face. Putting the moustache back in a cardboard box and glanced around, "or..." for the last hour, she had watched the boy slump around the room in a melancholy way, and she just knew she had to do something to make him smile. She picked up a sparkling material – one Jerome was sure he had talked Alfie into wearing like a dress once – "we can pretend we are spies. Quick, we must find the secret formula." She added in a bad French accent dramatically.

Jerome froze for a small second at the mention of a secret formula, his mind going back to the prom night with the Cup of Ankh and everything he learned about Sibuna that year. It was around then when he realised how strong Camilla was and how beautiful she was. He was lucky to have taken her to the prom, and looking back now. He had let her slip through his fingers. He could now see that so clearly.

The small laugh from Willow brought the boy back to the situation he currently was in. trying to organise the costumes cupboard for the drama classes – an almost impossible task.

"I might become a spy," Willow informed the boy conversationally as she unwrapped herself from the cloth. "Though I'd also like to be a vet or a supermodel."

"Always good to keep your options open," Jerome couldn't help but say, slightly bemused at the girls very diverse list of careers.

Willow looked at the boy curiously, "What do you want to be?"

"Umm..." Jerome paused; it wasn't that the question wasn't something he hadn't been thinking about. Their year group had been getting pushed to start thinking of their futures in all fairness, so they knew what they should apply for at university. Jerome turned away from the girl looking at the box in his hands, the topic of the future was something he wasn't quite sure he wanted to discuss because the current protection of his future was one he didn't like the look of. Instead, he placed a police helmet on his head and turned to look at Willow with a wide grin causing the girl to squeal with laughter.

"Yay, I told you this could be fun!" Willow laughed at the boy, who couldn't help but silently agree on a little. The detention was a nice distraction from the drama of everything at Anubis house.

The rumble of the Light Blue 1969 Chevy Camaro Convertible Camilla was currently behind the wheels off smoothly drove through the archway that was the entrance to the school. Fabian waving the twins village pass lazily up, so if Denby came out, they had a reason to be leaving the grounds. Once past the dip in the road, Camilla parked up waiting for Eddie, KT and Patricia – it was gonna be a tight squeeze, but they would get to the Clinic and back faster in the car. They all knew it.

Just as the blue car was out of sight, Patricia's phone started ringing, causing KT and Eddie (who the girl was hiding with by the wall outside the house) to glance around at her in panic.

"It's just Alfie," Patricia whispered as she glanced at the caller ID on her phone after fishing it from her back pocket.

"The Car is out of sight," Eddie whispered, looking between the two. – the rushed plan was to make Denby think it was just the twins going into town and sneak past as she was on the way back to her office. She wouldn't expect people to sneak out after a car? Right? Eddie hoped so. "Ready? Go!"

KT started the sprint, Patricia on her heel and Eddie following. It was going so well until Patricia stopped in the middle of the tunnel, the girl turning to Eddie with an apologetic look. "I've forgotten my bag!"

"Just leave it, come on!" Eddie begged his ex-girlfriend, skidding to a stop slightly.

Patricia shook her head, "Denby's bag is in it!"

"I thought you were gonna put it in the car."

"I forgot Weasel!" was the retort the goth hissed back at Eddie before turning on her heel and sprinting back to where the three of them had hidden, waiting for the twins to drive past in the car.

"Yacker!" Eddie went to follow after her but was grabbed by KT and pulled out of the danger zone towards the twin's car.

"Eddie, we really need to go." Was all the American girl told her friend in a begging tone, glancing to the main door of the gatehouse, knowing the teacher could appear at any second.

Patricia raced to the spot they had been hiding and thanked whatever god was, the god of handbags in Egyptian mythology – she was sure it was one of the gods Amber had made sure to learn from the twins – her handbag with Denby's bag was exactly where she had left it when she decided to lean against the wall as they waited for the twins to drive past.

Just as she turned around, however, she met the cold eyes of Miss Denby, who had that look that only adults got when they had caught someone up to something.

"What do you think you're doing?" was all the teacher could ask as the girl looked on in surprise. She had been caught.

Tea with the enemy was more Camilla strategy in Sibuna, not Patricia's, but when Denby offered her a hot cup of tea and a chat, the girl knew there was no way of getting out of the situation. Especially as she knew she needed to make sure she didn't get the others into trouble.

Denby said nothing to the girl on her couch as she took her time pouring two cups of tea from the elegant tea service.

"You can't keep me here, you know," Patricia told the adult, trying to keep the nerves from her voice. She was a Sibuna she had dealt with worse than Denby.

"You make it sound like you're my prisoner." Denby innocently said as she placed the teapot onto the table between them. "I thought that you were my guest, and we were having a lovely cup of tea. Sugar?"

Patricia shook her head at the woman's question, watching as Denby picked up a sugar cube with the delicate-looking tongs and put a cube into her own tea.

"It's wonderful to see such rich imagination in my students," Denby kept talking, ignoring the way Patricia kept glancing around the room nervously clutching her bag to her, "but we must not get carried away or interfere with things that don't concern us."

Patricia looked to the teacher understanding the subtext to her words immediately.

"Milk?"

Patricia shook her head once again, her mind racing. In few words, Denby had pretty much just threatened Sibuna, and boy, she was not having it. However, she knew for the sake of Eddie and the others on their current mission. She had to keep her normally hot head cool and try to manoeuvre the situation carefully.

Denby paused as she lifted the milk and added a drop to her own tea, in the same upper-class way Patricia had seen Alfie, Camilla and Amber all do (Fabian always having his coffee black, so she hadn't seen him do it). All things they probably learned in etiquette class – not that they used it much these days.

"Like my bag, for instance." Denby's words pulled Patricia from her thoughts on her upper-class housemates back to the seriousness of the situation she found herself in. "I'm sure Mr Sweet would wonder why you stole a teacher's bag."

"I didn't steal it." Patricia countered in a defiant tone, "I found it."

"Ah..." Denby replied, but she clearly didn't believe Patricia at all, "and you were coming here to return it?" the question wasn't a question at all, and both women in the room knew it.

Patricia nodded her head, not giving in to Denby's little mind games. She was stubborn, and she was going to stick to her story.

"How... thoughtful." Denby paused to pick up the tray of biscuits, "Biscuit?" the tone was sharp and threatening. Patricia knew she wasn't in the clear yet.

"I am going to kill her..."

Camilla had been muttering the same phrase since they all realised that Patricia wasn't coming with them to the clinic, and Denby had probably caught her all because of a bag that Camilla had told her to put in the bloody car.

The Clinic was a dark, cramped building that felt more like a prison than a health clinic of some kind, and something both Rutter's noticed straight away as the four of them made a beeline for the reception after Camilla had parked up, as they were the only children in the building causing them to get some bizarre looks from doctors and nurses around them.

"Can you stop hissing you're going to murder Patricia, please, Cam," Fabian hissed to the girl as he opened the door to let her down a cramped empty hallway. "They might actually lock you away."

Camilla rolled her eyes at her brother but did shut up at his words, glancing about the odd building they found themselves in and shivering slightly.

"Just keep walking..." Eddie told them all through clenched teeth as the four of them tried to appear like they were meant to be in the Clinic. "Keep smiling..." Eddie added, glancing to Camilla, who was glowering at her brother's arms crossed. The girl shot him back an extremely fake smile, and Eddie knew there was no winning with Camilla on this one. "Or not..." The boy trailed off, looking away from Camilla.

KT laughed softly, looking between the Osirian, The Protector and Fabian, she understood the gravity of the situation, but sometimes the way they all talked was very amusing to her. As she took a step back, a frame fell off the wall causing her to gasp and quickly grab it before it smashed to the floor; with ease, she placed it back on the wall and gave the group a sheepish, apologetic smile. "None of you saw me touch that."

"We need to pretend like we're meant to be here." Eddie hissed at them all as he and KT led the walk down the corridor with Camilla and Fabian on their heels.

Suddenly a doctor stopped them and looked over the four teens confused, "Can I help you?" he asked, watching as Eddie and KT stopped in their tracks instantly and the twins behind them practically ran into the pair.

"Eh..." KT started with a nervous cough, but as she spoke, the words came out a lot more confident than they all expected, "we're here to see Harriet Denby."

"And you are?"

Fabian pushed Eddie gently – he and Camilla were too easily recognised, but Eddie might be harder to fact check.

"I'm... her nephew." Eddie lied to the Doctor, "Yep, you know, good old Auntie Harriet."

The twins looked to one another, not the lie they had hoped for, but it wasn't something they couldn't work with.

"I see," the Doctor looked at the boy for a second before breaking out into a smile and gesturing towards a door, "in there, first on the right."

The four all glanced to the door before looking to the doctor with grateful smiles.

"Thanks," Eddie told him, moving towards the door.

"Not that you'll get much sense out of her, I'm afraid." The Doctor's words caused them all to pause and look back at him. "she's a very disturbed poor thing," he explained though the tone of voice was anything but caring, "Keeps talking about an ancient evil." The man let out a dry laugh, which the twins joined in on with the fake laughs they used at parties where Eddie and KT gave the doctor very weak smiles before moving towards the door and room they had been told Harriet was.

Camilla opened the door to Harriet Denby's room, and she didn't expect to find what she found on the other side. The room had the bare minimum in it. A bed, a dresser, a lamp, a wardrobe and a chair pushed at an angle so you could see outside the one window in the room. As the four teens slipped into the room, the woman in the chair peered up over the book she was reading to look at them all. The woman was defiantly a relation of Miss Denby, but where as the Denby they knew was sharp in her features with a no-nonsense attitude, this Denby was soft, with an open, kind nature to her even if she was a little timid and mouse-like. Camilla instantly liked her – even if she was apparently crazy pants.

The second her eyes met KT's, the woman got to her feet with a small gasp, "I knew you'd come."

"Sorry?" KT asked the woman glancing at Camilla before looking back to Harriet. "I don't think we've met."

"No." Harriet agreed before sitting back in her chair, "but I know who you are. You're Roberts great-granddaughter. The last descendant of the Frobisher-Smythe's."

KT glanced back at Fabian and Camilla as if trying to compute what the woman was talking about on earth. This was new information to them all. KT was a Frobisher-Smythe?!

Jerome had to admit, detention with Willow had become a lot more enjoyable when he embraced the fun the girl was bringing to the tedious job. They had started to make up stories for all the costumes, and he had just finished some elaborate story about the suit of armour they had found, ending in laughter from them both.

"And to think," Jerome laughed as he hung up the costume onto the rack they had filled with complete costumes (including all their accessories) ", I have been trying to avoid detention all these years."

"We can be king and queen of Detention!" Willow exclaimed as she picked up the two plastic crowns that got used for Prom, pausing slightly, "Unless... Mara?" Jerome glanced to Willow in confusion at what she meant. "I mean, you two are almost like Amfie... relationship royalty."

Jerome scrunched his nose up at that a little. "Mara and I were... complicated. Past tense." His mind flitted to Camilla, and he let out a sad sigh, "I messed up something that could have been epic due to my own fear... I let the girl of my dreams slip through my fingers."

"But if she knows you still like her, that you are really sorry for letting her go," Willow turned to him with wide earnest eyes, "then she will forgive you, won't she?"

"Probably because she knows I'll mess up again," Jerome honestly told Willow with a sad expression. "she's been hurt far too many times, and she has so many people who rely on her. There is enough on her shoulders already. I can't... she is a far better human than I deserve to ask to love me."

"Well, if she is so strong for someone else, don't you think she deserves her own pillar of strength to lean on? Her constant she can turn to when she can't be strong anymore?" Willow asked the boy waving around a fake rose as if It was a magic wand. "couldn't you simply be just that for her, and if it's meant to be more, it will be more."

Jerome paused in his clean up at Willow's words. They were surprisingly wise. Maybe he was going about wooing Camilla back the wrong way. He knew the pressure she was under, the pressure she put herself under to make sure she knew everything that was happening so she could protect everyone else as well as be their strength – that had only increased when Nina left as she felt Fabian needed her more. Maybe... maybe being her small safe place could be his way back to the woman he adored.

"Yeah?" He couldn't help but ask the girl tentatively. She spoke as if it was that simple.

Willow nodded her head with a bright smile, "you know, you aren't as much of a mess-up as you think you are, Jerome. You need to give yourself a little more credit, I think." With that, she gave him one last smile and turned back to the costumes leaving Jerome's mind buzzing, but he was also filled with a new sense of hope.

Darkness had fallen, and Patricia was still stuck playing tea parties with the female embodiment of Salazar Slytherin with perky boobs and a dye job – she as assuming as she looked around the creepy room Denby had as her living room. There were things in jars and weird displays. Nothing normal jumping out to the girl at all.

"I think my friends will be worried," Patricia spoke up as Denby walked back into the room again with a fresh plate of biscuits.

"Why don't you simply call them?" the woman suggested casually as she put the plate down before settling back into her armchair. "let them know you are perfectly safe?"

Patricia's mouth tightened as she released Denby had backed her into a corner, and the girl turned to her bag and started to look through it for her phone.

"I think there's been a mistake," KT kindly told Harriet Denby, whose wide innocent eyes just looked between the four teens at the door. The four teens all had a bigger legacy ahead of them than they could imagine; all of the texts she had studied were true. "I'm not Robert's Great-Granddaughter... or great anything." KT's words brought Harriet back to the situation at hand. These children clearly didn't know their truth yet not in full anyway, if the pendent around the other female's neck and the girl's protective stance by the door told her anything.

"I've never even heard of him until I came to school in England," KT concluded, looking to the woman hoping her tone was kind enough not to burst the woman from whatever happy moment she seemed to be in.

"But I presumed your grandpa would have told you." The four teens suddenly were very interested in what the woman had to say thanks to that very simple sentence. As if she realised she had their undivided attention, Harriet kept talking, "Mt father was a great friend of his. I had rather hoped he'd come in person, but he said you were up to the job. And he must have been right because here you are," the woman beamed at KT, "Roberts Descendant..." her eyes flickered to the twins behind the girl, and there was a flash of recognition before she whispered, "With the two descendants... But that shouldn't be possible."

The twins looked at one another in confusion, and Eddie was more than happy to bring the crazy train to a solo station as he looked at the woman in awe. There was the only reason this woman would know so much about KT, and it was the very reason he had been hoping to find when he forced his friends to come to the clinic. "You are the real Harriet Denby." The woman nervously got to her feet at the boy's words and started to look around. Eddie, of course, having a one-track mind that he had missed this as he kept talking, "It's your picture I saw on the website."

"I've lost my doll." Harriet turned to look directly at Camilla. "Have you seen her?"

Camilla was slightly taken aback – slightly getting Sarah flashbacks from when they used to visit her, and she was in 'Emily' mode. "Eh..."

Harriet rushed forward and grabbed Camilla and KT's hands, whispering to the two girls as if embedding a deep secret with the pair, "sometimes, she speaks to me. She is Neith, you see. She knows all."

What the lower Egyptian's goddess of the Cosmos and Fate was doing in a doll was clearly something neither twin wanted to question out loud in front of Harriet. Clearly, the woman wasn't as present as the rest of them.

"That's ..." Camilla smiled weakly at the woman squeezing her hand, "that's nice?"

"So, we have a teacher who's claiming to be you." Eddie, the ever tactful bluntly asked the woman who turned to look at him at his words.

"Caroline." Her eyes widened as the word slipped from her lips as an answer to the unasked question of Eddies.

"You know her?" Fabian breathed the question out – so quietly that if they hadn't all been silent in the room, it wouldn't have been heard.

"All my life." Was Harriet's reply to the boy. "unfortunately. She's my sister."

KT turned to Camilla with the same shocked face Camilla knew was on her own. Talk about a plot twist no one saw coming. Evil sibling trope – ticked off for this Sibuna adventure.

"Guys..." KT turned to Eddie and Fabian the second she realised Camilla was as shocked as she was, "you don't... really believe all this. Right?" it was a clear part of KT. I was begging someone to claim everything was a prank, but the trio she was with knew this was all very, very real.

The sound of a drawer shutting caused the four to look back to Harriet, who rushed over to them with a paper in her hands, one she instantly pushed onto Fabian. "Me and Caroline," she explained, and they all looked down at the photo printed on the paper of the woman in front of them and Miss Denby, their teacher. "she always hated me."

"Oh, Isis, protect me..." Camilla muttered softly.

"You don't look alike," KT offered as a peace offering, trying not to sound as scared as she felt at the proof the picture provided.

"Oh no," Harriet laughed slightly, "Caroline is adopted."

"that's our Denby all right," Eddie nodded his head before looking up at Harriet. They had gotten the answers they had been looking for.

Patricia was starting to hate her friends. She was sat in Denby's creepy living room with the woman staring at her, and 3 of her four friends weren't answering their mobile phones! What was the point in them having the stupid things if none of them would answer them?!

Patricia gave Denby a fake smile as she lowered the phone as Camilla's voicemail could be heard. "Can't get through..." she jokingly told the teacher.

Denby didn't return the smile. In fact, she bluntly spoke, "you're lying. Where are your friends, Patricia? And this time, I want the truth."

"Caroline to my identity," Harriet told the four students in an urgent whisper, "then she took Robert. Then she took my freedom and locked me away here. All the staff here think I'm crazy."

From next to Camilla, Fabian gave the woman a sympathetic smile, whilst KT and Camilla did nothing but stare at the woman, unsure how they were meant to respond to what they were told.

Thankfully Harriet clearly didn't care as she let out a gasp before saying, "where are my manners?" the woman rushed across the room to pick up a tissue box before turning to KT and holding it out to her, "please, have some cake."

KT and Fabian glanced over Camilla at one another before gently taking a tissue from the box, trying to be kind, where Eddie and Camilla shared a look of confusion. This woman clearly only had moments of clarity... or her meds had actually turned her crazy. Whatever it was, she clearly wasn't the fountain of knowledge they had hope she was going to be.

Harriet gave the pair who took the tissues wide smiles before she turned to gently place the tissue box back where she kept it in the room.

"So," KT spoke up as she and Fabian stuffed the tissues into their pockets and out of the way, "why would your 'sister' steal your identity?" clearly, the girl was trying to keep the conversation to a topic of information they might help them a little.

Harriet all of a sudden looked serious, "to take my role as Keeper, of course." she told the girl. "she wants to perform the ceremony. She wants the glory."

Camilla heard the word ceremony, and deep in her gut, she knew that didn't bode well for her as the main magic-user in Sibuna.

Of course, there were many other things to worry about in the girl's statement, but Camilla felt she was allowed a little selfishness at that moment.

Fabian clearly was having a very similar brainwave to his sister as Camilla felt him slip his hand into hers as he asked the woman in a horrified voice, "so it is real."

"Very real," Harriet nodded, "there is only one who could do it alone, but a great mage hasn't existed in decades, so the ceremony has to go ahead with the 7... but with the ceremony being real, you must understand the evil that Caroline will unleash when she performs the ceremony is very real too."

"May the fates forbid..." Camilla whispered in despair though only Fabian heard giving his sisters hand a squeeze.

"Caroline isnt pure of heart..." Eddie spoke up, getting a nod from Harriet. The boy looked to the woman desperately, "how do we stop her!"

"it's too late." Harriet cried out.

"She's lying." KT crossed her arms, looking at Harriet, "I can't... I'll be outside." The girl told her friends, clearly having had enough. Glancing once more at Harriet before leaving the room.

Fabian looked to Harriet, giving her a sympathetic look and a hushed, "I'm sorry..." Before she rushed after KT knowing The Osirian and The Protector needed to stay in the room to get as much information as they could on the ceremony. For the sake of his sister as well as the 'great evil', they would soon be fighting if Miss Denby had anything to say about it.

The door softly shut, leaving the three in the room, and Harriet looked between the pair looking a little like a lost puppy. As if unsure what she had said to cause an outburst from KT.

"Okay," Eddie sighed, knowing their time now was limited with Harriet, "we might be able to stop her, but you can..."

"Eddie –" Camilla whispered softly, but her voice was ignored.

"if you perform the ceremony," Eddie kept going ignoring his friend, "just like you were meant too."

The moment was interrupted as Camilla's phone started to ring, causing both Harriet and Eddie to look her way. She waved them off and pulled out her phone to see Patricia's name pop up.

"Trish?" Camilla answered her phone.

Eddie's eyes widened as he heard Camilla and pulled the phone from her hands.

"Yacker, where are you?"

Patricia rolled her eyes, trying not to look bemused in front of Denby as Eddie clearly took Camilla's phone off her.

"Look, I know you guys are at the disco," Patricia lied through her teeth, "but I'm not going to be able to make it. I'm stuck here finishing my knitting."

"What? You're what?"

"Anyways, it was nice speaking to you. I'll speak to you later." Patricia was quick to end the conversation. There was a reason she hadn't even attempted to phone Eddie. As much as she adored the boy, Camilla was the best at lying out of the group who had snuck from the school.

Denby seemed convinced, even if it was a begrudging kind of convincing. "I hope you are telling the truth, Patricia." The teacher told the gothic girl on her couch. "You know lying to me would be a bad idea."

Patricia knew when to hold her tongue and didn't say anything to the teacher.

"now scurry along." Denby dismissed her, "can't have you out past your curfew, can we? I'm sure any such offenders will be punished. Severely."

Patricia didn't need to be told twice. The girl jumping to her feet and rushing from the room as fast as she could.

"There is no way I can be Frobisher's great-granddaughter," KT argued with Fabian.

"You mean like there is no way my sister can be some magical protector of Isis?" Fabian countered in a whisper at the girl. "weird stuff like this comes with Sibuna... it happened with Nina and Cam... it could be true."

"Fabian..."

The boy sighed and looked to KT, "look, she did seem pretty confused," he had to admit, "so just try not to worry about it for now, okay?"

"but like you said, it's not unusual for Sibuna. What if I am? That makes me the children of children." KT couldn't help but panic. "the one they need for the ritual. What if I'm the one who unleashes evil into the world, Fabian?"

"With Isis's protector as a friend? I think you're safe."

"You trust Cam that much."

"I trust her with my life."

The hushed discussion was interrupted as Eddie and Camilla came rushing towards them. "Guys... Code red." Was all Camilla panted out of breath.

Fabian glanced between them in alarm. "Patricia –" Eddie glanced to Camilla, who nodded, "something is wrong. She phoned, and she was being polite."

"Polite?" Fabian repeated as if the word was unheard of when it came to describing Patricia – which honestly it was.

"Yeah..."

"I wouldn't know," Camilla added, "Asshole here took my phone off me the second he saw his girlfriends name."

"she isnt my girlfriend," Eddie muttered, looking down, missing the amused smirks shared between KT and Camilla.

"Patricia was polite?" Fabian repeated clearly, still trying to compute that information.

"Yeah," Eddie nodded, understanding the extreme reaction of Fabian's, "I think it was her way of saying she wasn't alone, that or we are all getting knitted sweaters for Christmas this year." They all looked at one another and shook their heads. Not Patricia's kind of present.

Just then, Eddie's phone pinged loudly, and the boy fished it out of his pocket, "It's Patricia." He told them all, "she thinks Denby is onto us. we probably should get back."

"that is completely fine by me." KT told them all, turning and looping her arm in Camilla's, "I call shotgun."

As the two girls went to leave, Eddie called out, "wait..." they paused and looked to him, "Cam, those two need to go to the car and wait."

"What? What about you two?" Fabian pointed between Eddie and Camilla.

"he wants more answers." Camilla groaned.

"And Harriet has answers. She could be the answer to all this. we need her." Eddie told them all. "Unless we can find this Great Mage, then we need her to perform the ceremony. Then there will be no evil."

Eddie missed the looks shared by the twins, but KT didn't.

"you know what? Right now, she's the only hope we have." Eddie finished his impassioned speech before grabbing Camilla's wrist and pulling the girl back down the corridor towards Harriet's room.

"What was that look?"

"What look?" Fabian tried to innocently ask as he and KT rushed the opposite way towards the exit.

"oh no... you are not getting out of this." the girl told him, causing Fabian to groan and mentally apologise for the secret he was about to tell KT.
