By the middle of March, Stars Hollow had received unprecedented amounts of snow. Normally, Lorelai would consider that to be cause for celebration, but the most recent snowfall had led to all sorts of problems and she was having a truly awful day.

Her day had started the with the discovery that her car had been covered in several inches of snow overnight. Before she could even start to dig her car out, a tree branch had fallen on top of it. Then, when she finally made it to work, she learned that most of the expected guests had called to cancel their reservations because of the weather. She spent the rest of the morning helping Mia reschedule guest reservations and vendor deliveries.

On her lunch break, Lorelai headed to the diner to see Luke. She hoped that he would be able to make her bad day a little better. That hope was dashed as she crossed the street in front of the diner and stepped off the curb into a puddle of icy water. Screaming in frustration, she shook off her wet foot and stumbled the rest of the way to the diner. As she opened the door, she cried, "Warmth!"

Luke had been wiping down the counter, but looked up to watch Lorelai limp across the diner. "What are you doing?"

"The icicle foot," Lorelai snapped. "It's the latest dance craze. All the kids are doing it."

After she sat down across from him, Luke unnecessarily pointed out, "Your shoe's all wet."

"This evil puddle was lying in wait."

"Let me get you a towel."

"Forget the foot. I need caffeine. Whatever form you've got. I haven't had any all day. I'll drink it, shoot it, eat it, snort it. Whatever form it's in, gimme."

Instinctively, Luke reached for the coffee carafe and began filling a to-go cup. "Should I bother to ask how your day's going?"

"Oh, terrific. My car's under a tree, the inn has almost no guests, and my shoe's an icicle," she ranted. Eagerly grabbing the coffee cup from Luke, she tried to take a drink, but quickly pulled away in pain. "Hot! Warn me!"

"That coffee's hot? Sorry, coffee's hot."

Lorelai pouted. "Be nice. Snow and I have had a bit of a bumpy ride today."

"Sorry."

Shrugging, Lorelai said, "I blame myself. I may have been too needy with snow. Too clingy. It had no choice but to push me away, create a boundary."

"I'm sorry that snow is being so mean to you today."

"Snow has always protected me before. It's been a white blanket of love. We had a symbiotic thing going on, but it's over."

"Snow cannot protect you. Snow is frozen water falling out of the sky."

"I am with you, one hundred percent. Snow is nothing but annoying icy frozen-water stuff that falls out of the sky at inconvenient times. It's Mother Nature's icy way of saying screw you, Lorelai Danes."

"You're reading way too much into one bad day."

"I don't think so."

"You and snow will reconcile. You'll see."

"Not interested," huffed Lorelai.

"Well, are you interested in lunch?"

"Just something quick. I have to get back to work to help Mia deal with all the other angry people that Mother Nature has screwed over today."

"That's the spirit."

After lunch, Lorelai's day only got worse and, at the end of her shift, she stormed out of the inn muttering angrily to herself about how much she hated snow. She was still fuming when she tried to turn into her driveway and nearly slid into the mailbox. It took two more attempts before she was able to safely park her car. "You stupid…I hate you," Lorelai screeched, slamming her fists against the steering wheel.

Luke watched the whole scene, then knocked on the window and waited for Lorelai to roll it down. "Is everything okay?"

"No. I hate snow."

"No, you don't."

"Yes, I do."

"I have something that will help. Get out of the car," Luke requested, opening the door.

Lorelai glared at Luke, but did as he wanted. Once she was out of the car, she realized that a large ice rink had been constructed in the front yard. Stunned, she asked, "What is this?"

"It's an ice rink."

"I see that," Lorelai said, making her way across the driveway and into the yard. "How did this happen?"

"Jack Frost brought it."

"Does he look like Luke Danes?"

"A little. Not as handsome."

"You made me an ice rink?"

"It's just a rink in a box. You fill it with water. It's not a big deal."

"It is a big deal. It's a very big deal."

"Here, try it out," suggested Luke. He handed Lorelai a pair of ice skates that she hadn't realized he was holding.

With a wide smile, Lorelai took the ice skates and sat down on the bench that Luke had set up at the edge of the ice rink. As she kicked off her shoes, she asked, "What in the world inspired you to do this?"

"Well, I felt kind of bad about you and snow and the rough time you were having. And I wasn't helping any by saying that stuff about snow being icy water falling from the sky. You know, I thought maybe I'd get you two back together, make you feel better about snow again."

"Oh, yeah?"

"I'm grumpy about stuff, but I don't want you to be."

Lorelai finished lacing her skates and carefully stood up. Balancing precariously on the thin blades, she kissed Luke's cheek. "Thanks for reconciling us."

"Anytime," Luke promised, helping her onto the ice. He watched her skate a couple of laps and, as she sped past him on her third lap, he called out to her, "I'm going to go get the kids."

"Okay!"

A few minutes later, Jess and Rory came running outside while Lorelai was executing a wobbly spin. Straightening up, she resumed skating laps as the kids ran toward her. Lorelai giggled at the sight of Jess and Rory clumsily climbing over snow drifts in their thick snowsuits.

Luke and the twins followed behind Jess and Rory, but were moving much more slowly because Ben and Liam were struggling to walk through the snow and refused to be carried. The twins only made it halfway across the yard before they gave up and sat down to play in the snow. Groaning, Luke crouched down next to them and, as Jess and Rory reached the ice rink, he shouted, "Your skates are under the bench!"

"I got them!" Lorelai yelled back. On her next lap, she stopped in front of the bench. She knelt on the wooden frame of the ice rink and helped Jess and Rory switch their snow boots for ice skates.

Getting Jess and Rory into their ice skates was easy, but getting them onto the ice rink was difficult and required a well-coordinated effort by Lorelai and the kids. Even after the kids made it onto the ice and were relatively steady on their feet, Lorelai held onto their hands. Jess tried to pull free, excitedly exclaiming, "Let's skate!"

"Hold up," Lorelai scolded, tightening her grip on Jess' hand. "If you don't let me help you, you'll get hurt."

Rory tugged on Lorelai's hand. "I don't want to get hurt, Mom."

"You'll both be fine," Lorelai assured her. "You just need to be patient and learn, not rush headfirst into trouble." Using her grip on Jess' hand, she shook his arm to get his attention and asked, "Do you understand?"

"Yes," Jess replied sulkily.

"Good. Who's ready to learn how to ice skate?"

Jess and Rory had just let go of Lorelai's hands and managed to skate a few feet independently when the twins squealed in delight. The high-pitched sound startled Jess and Rory causing them to lose their balance. Jess was able to recover, but Rory fell hard on the ice and started to cry. Her cries worried her brothers, particularly Ben, who started trying to crawl through the snow toward her while chanting, "Ro! Ro! 'Kay, Ro? Ro!"

It took Lorelai only a few seconds to assess the situation and tell the boys that Rory was okay. As she told Ben and Liam to stay where they were, she carefully slid Jess away from Rory so he wouldn't trip over her. When Jess was a safe distance away, Lorelai shuffled back to Rory's side and sat down next to her. Rubbing Rory's back, Lorelai said, "You're okay, let's get up and try again."

"No, Mommy!" Rory wailed in protest. "I don't want to skate anymore."

"Okay, baby. That's okay. Do you want to go play with Daddy?"

"Uh huh."

"Luke, can you come get Rory?"

"Sure, just a second." Luke quickly picked up Ben and took him back to where Liam waited.

As soon as he was back on the ground, Ben crawled away again. "Ro. Wan' Ro," he demanded stubbornly.

Before Ben could make it very far, Luke grabbed the back of his coat to hold him in place. "Stay here. I'll be right back." Ben met Luke's statement with a defiant glare, so Luke added, "With Rory." This seemed to placate Ben and he settled down to play in the snow with Liam.

Once Ben allowed him to walk away, it didn't take Luke long to get Rory off the ice rink and into her snow boots. As he carried her back to where the twins were waiting, he wiped away the tears that lingered on her cheeks and asked, "Do you want to make snow angels with Ben and Liam?"

"Okay, Daddy."

"That's my girl."

After Luke had calmed Rory down, all of the kids were content to play in the snow until Luke and Lorelai dragged them into the house to warm up. While Lorelai helped the kids with their baths, Luke made chicken tortilla soup for dinner. The soup was a family favorite and everybody usually requested second helpings, but, after playing in the snow, the twins were so tired that they were barely able to stay awake long enough to eat their first helpings. Jess and Rory weren't doing much better, so Luke and Lorelai tucked all four kids into bed as soon as dinner was over.

With the kids fast asleep, Lorelai chose to end her day curled up on the couch with an extra large mug of hot chocolate topped with a heap of mini marshmallows. As she savored the sweet treat, she looked out the living room window at the snow angels that covered the front yard and the group of snowmen that were lined up next to the ice rink. She smiled when she saw Luke's reflection appear in the glass. "Hey, Jack Frost, want to join me?"

Luke kissed the top of Lorelai's head before sitting down next to her and draping his arm over her legs. "I'm glad to see you're feeling better."

"Thanks to you and your amazing powers or reconciliation."

"Yeah," Luke snorted in disbelief. "I reconciled you and snow, but nearly broke up Rory and snow in the process."

"But you reconciled them too. Face it, my friend, you're on fire."

"I just like to see you and the kids happy."

"We are."

"Then, so am I."
