They cannot build everything on apologies.
Draco thinks this as he sits across from Neville after Scorpius' first year. His son's favorite teacher isn't the bumbling boy Draco grew up with; instead, Neville's got a professor's confidence as he talks of another successful year, the handful that's the new generation, and corrects that Scorpius isn't a troublemaker whatsoever.
"Sorry for the confusion," Neville says.
Sorry for everything my family's ever done to yours, Draco thinks. But then he notes a certain bare finger, the same from which a ring is also absent on Draco, and he commiserates.
That's a start.
