He wanted to earn his way in life by setting aside the Malfoy surname. But Scorpius understood he was fortunate that Freddie's father took a risk in hiring him part-time.
"It wasn't a gamble, Scorpius," George corrected him for the umpteenth time that week, as though he'd read the younger wizard's thoughts.
Scorpius smiled meekly at George, still unsure of himself.
But George chuckled. "You're capable, Scorpius. But I think you're fishing for compliments. Enjoy the sound of my voice that much?"
Scorpius froze, shop broom stuck in his grip as he realized that George was (also) right about that.
