Lily comes home each year from Hogwarts, talking of experiences you will never have and people you [likely] will never meet. Your parents fawn over her and talk about it as though these are regular school occurrences, but you insist on calling her a freak. Better to lash out than to let on how envious you are.

But then her tone changes about Potter, and one summer she starts bringing him home.

Your breath catches. James Potter is polite—even to you who Lily must have no kind words for (right?)—and you weaken.
