Grinch blinks his eyes open from his nap, yellow eyes wandering around his surroundings. He's definitely in his cave, judging by the stone walls and the clutter scattered about. He can also tell that he had fallen asleep in his recliner again sure to his uprighted posture.
He goes to move but immediately stops once he realizes the extra weight positioned in his lap. His eyes shift downwards to see Martha curled into his side, sleeping peacefully after another one of their cuddle sessions.
Green lips pull into a smile as he admires her angelic physique. He wanted to stay and run his fingers through her hair like he always did, but something else was on his mind, and he needed to get up.
Carefully he maneuvered his way to the side and very slowly stood up, gently lying her back onto the cushions of the chair. Once he successfully got her settled, he quietly made his way to the back of the cave.
Past the pile of smashed machinery from his previous rage meltdown was his work desk, occupied by blueprints from his earlier inventions; but that was not his main focus right now.
On top of a shelf above his desk was a rusty, old toolbox with a lock on the front that required a key to open it. He reached into a glass jar filled with other knickknacks and pulled out a single silver key, which fit perfectly into the lock.
There was nothing really special inside of the toolbox except for, well, tools, and a small, black velvet box, which is what Grinch had been looking for all along.
He smiled upon pulling it out and opened it to reveal an unfinished, gold ring tucked snuggly into the fabric of the box.
It was going to be his engagement ring to Martha once it's finished. He had started working on it about a week ago and everyday, when he has time, he comes back to add to it and touch it up. There's still more that needs to be done, specifically the jewel part, which will be the most special and sentimental part of the entire ring.
Grinch sighs, his mind beginning to daydream of what that day will look like. Just how perfect this ring will look on her finger after he proposes to her. He's been planning this for a while now, but there's obviously a lot more that needs to be done.
"Mrs. Grinch," He mumbles under his breath and smiles. "Hmm...I like it."
And he's sure Martha will like it too.
