"Oh, c'mon! Please, Martha?"
"Grinch, honey, we've been through this already; and the answer is still 'no',"
"But please?"
"No,"
"Please?"
"No!"
"Please?!"
"...Alright, fine."
"Wait, really?"
"NO!"
Martha signed, plopping down her already packed suitcase onto her upstairs bed, the weight of it causing it to bounce a little. "You know I can't miss this flight."
The Grinch frowned at the thought as he crossed his hairy arms in front of his equally hairy chest, obviously not happy about having to give his girlfriend up for the weekend. "Why couldn't they just get married some other time?!"
"I don't know. Why don't you ask my cousin and her fiancé that? Here, dearest, carry this for me?" She handed him the heavy luggage as she migrated down the steps and into her living room.
Grinch followed quickly behind, lying her bag on the hardwood floor. "Look, I know you're a bridesmaid and all, but you can still cancel. Just tell her you can't make it again."
Martha whipped around, her hands on her hips. "Now that wouldn't be fair to Catherine, now would it? Especially with the wedding being tomorrow!"
He didn't respond to that. Simply turning his head away from her in a pout. He looked more like a toddler than a full-grown buck.
She sighed once again and shook her head. Gently she grabbed his chin as she approached him and turned him towards her. Their eyes met.
"Don't be like that, hon. I'll only be gone for three days, that's it." Her voice soft as she spoke to him.
"Yeah, and that's seventy-two hours without my Angel!" Though he was upset, he still couldn't find the strength to muster up the proper frustration while looking down at her lovely face. Her blue eyes always looked so pretty like that. "Besides," He added, his thumbs softly rubbing her on her arms. "Angels aren't supposed to leave in the first place."
Her heart pounded after he said that. She loves him so much.
A light chuckle sounded through her rosy lips as she nuzzled their noses. Her hand rubbing through his already messy, green hair. "You'll be fine, Grinch," She whispered. "I love you."
Green arms embraced her back, kissing her on her dainty head that laid on his chest. "I love you too. But tell your cousin that I am not happy about this!"
He felt the vibrations from her laugh on his body, the sound and feel warming him as he couldn't help but grin himself. "I'll make sure to pass the memo." She responded sarcastically.
They remained that way until two beeps from a car horn sounded from outside her house.
Martha pulled away. "That's the taxi," She quickly grabbed her luggage, coat, and purse. She turned back towards her love and planted three, brief kisses on his lips before she headed near the front door. "See you later, baby. Kiss Max goodbye for me, please."
"Now, you know I am NOT kissing that dirty dog!"
Her laughter was heard even after she had walked out the door. Grinch smiled to himself. He's still not happy, but he knows it's for the better.
She'll be a beautiful bridesmaid...but an even gorgeous bride once she returns.
