Lucifer's hands were shaking as he ripped off his suit jacket to press against the bullet wound, his heart beating erratically when he saw blood was already pooling underneath Kami's body. She was losing too much blood, even he knew that. A sharp bellow of laughter had him twisting around to face Malcolm, his eyes flashing a bright red as he all but snarled at the murderer.

"Shit, man. She looks like she's about to croak, doesn't she?" Malcolm exclaimed, grinning from ear to ear.

"Just do it" Lucifer growled, his eyes flickering to the gun in Malcolm's hand.

"…You want me to shoot you?" Malcolm realised; surprise evident on his face.

"N-no…Lucifer, don't" Kami stuttered, reaching out to grab the collar of his shirt, as he turned to give her a sad look.

"And why the hell would I want to end your suffering? No. I want you to live out the rest of your days knowing that she's dead because of you. I want it to eat away at you…just like she's done to me" Malcolm explained, taking a step back.

Kami watched through blurry eyes as Malcolm began to walk away, finding he almost had a skip in his step. They couldn't let him get away with what he had done. He had to be stopped.

"You…you need to stop him—" Kami began, but was cut off as she felt blood bubbling at the back of her throat, a harsh cough leaving her lips.

"No. I need to save you! I-I'll get help. Call an ambulance" Lucifer suggested, as Kami shook her head slowly.

"It's too late, Luce. The bullet…it's hit something" Kami exclaimed, feeling blood was now coating her lips.

"You can't die. You can't" Lucifer cried, pulling her closer to him.

"Tell Chlo…I'm sorry. I should have come back sooner…" Kami trailed off, grimacing as a wave of pain hit her.

"You tell her yourself" Lucifer replied, as Kami gave him a pained smile.

"…I'm scared, Lucifer. I don't…I'm not ready" Kami admitted, her bottom lip wobbling, as Lucifer felt his heart break in two.

"I won't let you die, Kami" Lucifer told her, pulling her close to his chest, pressing his lips into her hair.

"I don't know if this is all part of your plan. Or if you can even hear me…but if you're up there, if any part of you truly cared for me…Dad…please. I'll be the son you always wanted me to be. I'll do ask you ask, go where you want me to…I'll do anything. Just…don't let her die" Lucifer exclaimed, as a tear rolled down his cheek.

Lucifer pulled away to see if his prayer had worked when he felt his heart stutter, realising that Kami had gone still. The blood had stopped spurting from the wound on her stomach, and her eyes had closed. Lucifer reached out to press his hand to her cheek, trying to awaken her. A sob left his lips when she didn't move, as Lucifer could tell her soul was already gone.

"This is all my fault" Lucifer cried, stroking her cheek lightly with his thumb.

"I'm sorry…I'm so sorry" Lucifer exclaimed, leaning down to press their foreheads together, letting out a shaky breath.

Another tear dripped down from his eyes, falling onto Kami's cheek, as he slowly lowered her to the ground. Lucifer scrunched his eyes shut, his hands balling into fists, knowing what he had to do. The only thing he could do. Pushing himself to his feet, his eyes turned red once more, as he felt anger coursing through his veins, ready to find Malcolm. A sudden gust of wind had Lucifer stumbling backwards, as he felt a chill go down his spine. He could sense eyes on him, the cold feeling radiating from his spine to the rest of his body. Lucifer looked up as he saw a shadow pass over him, frowning when he realised there was nothing casting it.

He wasn't alone.

A loud scream had him whipping around, almost tripping over his own feet when he found Kami sitting bolt upright, the shout having come from her lips. He was instantly back at her side, seeing she was in a panic, her hands flying around, eyes darting around the building as if she didn't know where she was.

"It's okay. It's okay…" Lucifer trailed off, when he saw she was staring at something behind his shoulder, a look of horror on her face.

With a frown, he turned around to find only an empty space behind him. He could feel how Kami was shaking against him, as she shook her head quickly, looking close to tears.

"…You can't be here..." Kami gaped, with wide eyes.

Lucifer's eyes darted between her and whatever she was seeing, as he began to wonder if she was hallucinating. He reached out for her shoulder, trying to pull her attention away, but it was no use.

"There's no one there, Kami. Kami!" Lucifer insisted, moving his hand back to her cheek, forcing her to turn to him.

She blinked a few times as if coming out of a trance, her forehead wrinkling in confusion. She let out a cry a moment later, her hands flying to her stomach, as blood continued to drip from the wound on her stomach. Lucifer's own eyes flickered to the blood that was drying into the floor, knowing she had lost enough blood to kill a person. His Father must have listened to him. He must have brought her back from the dead…

"What happened?" Kami frowned, leaning onto Lucifer for support.

"I don't—" Lucifer started but was cut off by a familiar voice.

"Kami!" Chloe screeched, as she sprinted towards her sister, eyes wide when she saw the blood that surrounded the pair.

"Oh God…oh God" Chloe murmured, realising Kami had been shot.

"She needs an ambulance, Detective" Lucifer exclaimed, but Chloe seemed frozen to the spot, a terrified expression on her face.

"Chloe. Call for help" Lucifer insisted, bringing her out of her thoughts.

The blonde gave a quick nod before bringing her phone out of her pocket with shaking hands, dialling the 911 as she crouched down beside Kami. The girl in question still had her hands over her wound, frowning as she noticed the blood was only trickling now. She should have been dead.

"You prayed" Kami stated, turning to Lucifer.

"What?" Lucifer questioned.

"I heard you. Asking your Dad…well, God to save me. I guess he must have listened, huh?" Kami went on, as Lucifer nodded slowly.

"I'm not so sure it was my Father who brought you back" Lucifer confessed, remembering the chill he had felt before Kami had awoken.

Lucifer was rarely scared by anything but the presence he had felt…that truly terrified him. To have the ability to bring someone back to life was an ability few beings possessed. Not only that but what Kami had seen after—

A terrified scream echoed through the building, as Chloe's eyes widened, realising she recognised the voice. Trixie. She was racing towards the sound without another thought, her heart beating quickly in her chest. Her mother's intubation telling her something awful had happened.

"Trixie!" Chloe cried, searching for her daughter, whom she had left outside the building when she heard the gunshot, thinking it was safer out there.

"Malcolm's still out there…go!" Kami insisted, gesturing for Lucifer to follow the blonde.

Lucifer reluctantly nodded, helping to lower Kami to the floor carefully, as she was too weak to keep herself upright. He was chasing after Chloe a few seconds later, not knowing what he would do if any harm had come to the child. The Detective had turned a corner and disappeared behind some nearby shelves when Lucifer heard a shocked gasp. He came to a halt almost immediately, finding Chloe holding onto Trixie's shoulders, covering her face with her hand. Lucifer followed her gaze, his mouth going slack when he spotted a body on the floor a few metres away.

Malcolm.

Lucifer took a step forward to take a better look, but soon wished he hadn't. The man was dead, that was clear to see. Lucifer grimaced as he saw that Malcolm's eyes had all but dissolved, leaving only bloody eye sockets behind. It was as if his eyes had been burnt away. The look of sheer terror would forever be etched on his face, his mouth hung agape. Something had killed the man…something not human.

"What happened to him?" Chloe stuttered, pulling Trixie a little closer to her.

"…I don't know" Lucifer mumbled, as a newfound fear settled into his bones.

Kami let out a groan as her eyes fluttered open, becoming blinded by bright lights all around her. Once her vision cleared, a friendly face came into view, placing sunflowers onto her bedside table. Her hospital bedside table, Kami realised, looking down at the flimsy gown she was wearing. She was quick to register the pain radiating from her abdomen and realised that unfortunately, the ordeal in the air hanger hadn't been a horrible nightmare.

"You got me flowers?" Kami murmured, reaching up to rub her eyes.

"I did try to smuggle alcohol in, but the nurse at the front desk stopped me" Lucifer replied, making Kami laugh lightly.

"Why sunflowers?" She asked, reaching out to touch one of the petals.

"They reminded me of you" Lucifer answered, watching Kami's forehead wrinkle.

"Are you saying I look like a Simpson?" Kami scoffed, as Lucifer reached out to brush a finger over her cheek.

"You do look a little yellow in this light" Lucifer teased, as she brushed his hands away.

"Hmm, yes. I really should have made myself more presentable. Getting shot really is no excuse" Kami stated, sarcastically, as Lucifer huffed out a laugh.

"…They're bright, pretty…and make me smile" Lucifer admitted, a few seconds later, as Kami's eyes softened.

"And they were out of roses" Lucifer added, making Kami roll her eyes.

"Where's my sister?" Kami asked, noticing she was absent.

"I sent her home. She hasn't left your bedside since you arrived at the hospital. She looked like she needed her beauty sleep. It's the least I can do after all" Lucifer explained.

"Hey, this isn't your fault, you know that, right?" Kami insisted, reaching out to touch his hand.

"You almost died because of me. That isn't something I will ever forgive myself for" Lucifer told her, as she squeezed his hand.

"But I didn't die. Hell, the nurses say I must have a guardian angel looking out for me after surviving all that blood loss. You should have seen their faces when I told them I did and that he was called Lucifer" Kami grinned, pulling her hand away, noticing how Lucifer's smile faltered.

"What's wrong?" Kami frowned.

"What do you remember? After you were shot?" Lucifer inquired, not looking her in the eye.

"Not much, uh…pain mostly. You were holding me, praying to God and then…it was just black" Kami murmured.

"Nothing else after? No bright light? No heaven?" Lucifer pushed.

"I didn't see anything. Just never-ending…blackness" Kami confessed, uncomfortably.

"When you woke up, you saw someone. You said they couldn't be there. Who was it?" Lucifer stated

"I did? I don't remember seeing…" Kami trailed off, as her eyes went out of focus.

"What?" Lucifer questioned, leaning in a little closer.

"I thought I heard something in the dark after I died…calling out to me. It sounded like…God, I can't remember. It just scared me, that's all I know" Kami mumbled.

Just as Lucifer went to open his mouth, the door to Kami's room was ripped open and Maze came stumbling through, looking like she had been running. They could see how her shoulder's slumped in relief when she saw Kami awake and talking. Kami gave her a small smile, hoping to reassure the older woman. She knew how awful she looked; her pale complexion mixed with the blood loss must have made her look half dead.

"I think we might need a rain check on our date—" Kami began as Maze rushed forward.

Before Kami could say anything else, Maze was leaning forward, crashing her lips against the younger girl's. Maze's hands quickly reached out to tangle themselves into Kami's hair, as she pulled her closer, feeling Kami return the kiss. The demon slowly pulled away a few seconds later, leaving Kami panting, her eyes wide, having not expected that reaction. Lucifer had averted his eyes quickly, feeling the familiar tightness in his chest, finding it to be almost painful this time.

"Actions speak louder than words, right?" Maze stated, as Kami's lips twitched into a smile.

"I think I heard your message loud and clear" Kami giggled, leaning forward to press a chaste kiss to Maze's lips.

"And all of a sudden, I'm feeling like a third wheel" Lucifer complained, trying his best to put up a front.

"Good. It's your fault she got shot in the first place" Maze snarled at him.

"Maze, it's not Lucifer's fault. Malcolm was after me—" Kami began, but Maze was quick to cut her off.

"And he would have never even met you if it wasn't for Amenadiel. Your stupid pissing battle almost got my girlfriend killed" Maze insisted, her eyes widening as she realised what she had said.

"Girlfriend?" Kami asked, with a teasing grin.

"I mean…if you want to…we could…" Maze stuttered, making Kami's grin grow wider.

"Who knew my girlfriend was capable of blushing" Kami smirked, as the pair shared a soft look.

"Well, I think that's my cue to leave before I vomit" Lucifer announced, pushing himself to his feet and turning away.

"Hey, Lucifer?" Kami exclaimed.

"Yes?" Lucifer replied, turning around, hoping he didn't appear too eager.

"Thank you. For the flowers and…for what you said at the air hanger" Kami spoke up, as Lucifer gave her a bashful look.

"I couldn't lose my favourite human, now could I?" Lucifer stated, watching a broad smile spread over Kami's lips.

Giving her a quick nod he made his way to the door, his eyes flickering back as he walked through the doorframe. Maze was leaning in, pressing their foreheads together, a rare vulnerable expression on his face. The pair looked truly happy. Lucifer inhaled sharply, realising he wished that he was the one holding Kami. He may not have lost her to death…but it seemed he had lost her to his best friend.

Kami's lips were pulled back in disgust as she stared at the corpse in front of her, eyes drawn to the large pieces of metal protruding from the poor girl's skull. She could have only been a couple of years older than Kami, and it was clear her death had been anything but peaceful. Kami let out a sigh as she looked around the crime scene for her sister or Lucifer but came up blank. Realising she must have missed them, she turned on her heel, walking towards the police tape when a woman strolled up to her, a beaming smile on her face.

"You must be Chloe's sister! Oh my God, it's so good to meet you" She grinned, before suddenly pulling Kami into a hug, not seeming to notice how the younger girl stiffened.

"Right back at you, strange person I've never met before" Kami retorted, as the woman in question pulled away.

"Oh, right. I'm Ella Lopez. I just transferred in a few days ago. I heard you got shot. Man, that sucks" Ella went on, pouting a little.

"Yeah, can't say I'd recommend it. Have you seen my sister?" Kami questioned, as Ella shook her head.

"I think they were going to interview a suspect. Pretty gnarly scene, right?" Ella mumbled, ushering over to the corpse.

"Chloe will find the killer. She always does" Kami insisted, as Ella gave her a small smile, missing how Kami's eyes flickered down to the cross she was wearing, clearly on display.

"You're religious?" Kami asked.

"I have faith" Ella nodded, as Kami pursed her lips.

"…So, you believe in heaven and all that?" She couldn't help but inquire.

"Some form of it, sure. Maybe not with angels and harps…although that would be pretty awesome" Ella grinned.

"What about the other stuff? Like…hell?" Kami pushed.

"I suppose if I believe in heaven I have to believe in hell, right?" Ella shrugged, noticing the frown on Kami's face.

"Is this about what happened to you?" Ella realised, as the younger girl let out a long sigh.

"I didn't see anything. No heaven. No hell. Just nothingness. So, what does that mean? I don't get into either?" Kami blurted out.

"Hey, you got shot literally saving someone else's life. If that doesn't earn you a ticket into heaven, what would, huh?" Ella tried to console her.

"Well, what if you've already lost your ticket?" Kami insisted, as Ella gave her an incredulous look.

"I doubt it's something you lose down the back of the couch" Ella chuckled.

"I mean if your parents…did some things, that wouldn't get you like…banned, right?" Kami stuttered over her words.

"This is starting to seem oddly specific" Ella stated, as Kami shook her head.

"Sorry. My head's just all over the place, right now. I better go find my sister" Kami mumbled, as Ella reached out to grab her wrist.

"Hey, if you ever need to vent, my shoulder's free—" Ella began, but Kami quickly cut her off, brushing her hand away.

"I'm fine. Really. Thanks anyway" Kami said, forcing a smile onto her face, as she turned on her heel.

The smile fell from her lips immediately, as she almost collided with a familiar face. Kami grit her teeth as Dan held his hands up in mock defence, noticing the murderous glare she sent his way.

"Hey. I didn't know you were out of hospital" Dan greeted, making Kami huff.

"You would if you had actually bothered to visit me" Kami muttered, turning in the other direction to walk away from him.

"I figured you wouldn't want to see me" Dan called after her, following in her footsteps.

"Huh, you read minds now or something?" Kami responded.

"They've gone to interview the Leave it to Leslie actress" Dan exclaimed, as Kami came to a stop.

"…You got an address?" Kami asked, as Dan quickly grabbed a pen scribbling the location on the back of Kami's hand.

"Great. Now stay out of my way" Kami warned, but Dan was quick to retort.

"We got Malcolm's autopsy report back from the coroner" Dan announced, seeing how he had once again caught Kami's attention.

"Did he suffer?" Kami inquired, crossing her arms.

"Big time. The coroner said his whole brain liquified. Eyes too. It was a mess. You really have no idea what happened?" Dan replied.

"I was kind of busy bleeding out on the floor, Dan" Kami scoffed.

"Glad to see getting shot hasn't made you any less sarcastic" Dan mumbled under his breath.

"Good talk. Let's not do it again sometime" Kami told him, making Dan roll his eyes as she went to walk past him.

"I'm glad you're alright, by the way!" Dan called after her, earning an irritated 'uh-huh' in return.

He didn't see the conflicted expression on her face, disturbed by the news of how Malcolm had died. Chloe had described the scene to her, but clearly, she had missed out on a few details. What the hell had happened Malcolm? Did he somehow do it to himself…or was someone else responsible?

"No. No way. This is not happening" Chloe exclaimed, the moment she saw her sister walking towards her.

"Relax, Chlo. I was just going for a stroll and…oh look, a murder suspects trailer. Well, seeing as we're here—" Kami began, but was quickly cut off by the blonde.

"You're supposed to be resting" Chloe insisted, unamused.

"I got bored" Kami shrugged, as Chloe shook her head.

"You got shot point blank two days ago, Kami! You should still be in hospital, let alone on a case" Chloe retorted.

"I feel fine. As the doctor's said, I've made a miraculous recovery. It will probably barely leave a scar" Kami explained, dismissively.

Chloe couldn't stop the way her brow furrowed at her sister's word. The doctor's had all said Kami should have died from the bullet wound she had sustained, just through blood loss alone. Yet here she was, up on her feet again almost immediately. It didn't make any sense. A dark part of her mind told her Lucifer had something to do with it, not that it made any sense. How could Lucifer have saved Kami's life?

"You almost died. I can't…I won't put you in danger again" Chloe told her, as Kami's eyes softened.

"You can't protect me from everything, Chlo. The world's a dangerous place, I could die getting run over by a car. Besides, we're on a Warner Brother's set, what's the worst that could happen?" Kami grinned, as Chloe facepalmed.

"I can't believe you just said that" Chloe muttered.

Just as Kami opened her mouth to reply, they heard a shout from their murder suspects trailer…a male voice. One that seemed very familiar to the pair. Chloe was instantly kicking the door in, her hand on her gun as the two women piled into the vehicle. Kami's jaw dropped open as she saw Lucifer on the couch, with the lead actress of Leave it to Leslie, on top of him, undoing his buttons. For once, Lucifer didn't seem to be enjoying the view of the half-naked woman on top of him, as he flailed around, trying to push her away.

"What the hell is going on?" Chloe asked, with wide eyes, as Lucifer turned to the pair.

"Right. For once this is not what it looks like" Lucifer announced, as Kami quirked an eyebrow.

"It better not be" Kami grumbled, as Chloe gave her a look.

"…Just cause' you know…she's a murder suspect…and everything…" Kami stuttered, awkwardly.

"Uh-huh?" Chloe replied, with a teasing smile, having noticed the slight jealousy in her sister's tone.

"Trust me, Kami, I would much rather have you on top of me—" Lucifer began, but Chloe cut him off with a raise of her hand.

"Do not finish that sentence" Chloe grimaced.

"So, Jillian, the recently deceased, was your sober companion?" Lucifer questioned, as they interrogated Amy, their murder suspect.

"The production company employed her to keep me in line" Amy admitted.

"Clearly she wasn't doing a very good job of it" Lucifer scoffed, ushering to the coke on the young girl's desk.

"…What if that's the point?" Kami realised, as Chloe turned to her.

"What do you mean?" Chloe queried.

"Since they employed Jillian, has your addiction actually gotten better?" Kami asked Amy, who shook her head slowly.

"I started taking meow meow recently" Amy sighed, dropping her head into her hands.

"Mephedrone" Lucifer and Kami clarified, as Chloe pursed her lips in annoyance.

"Ooo, and how do we know about that? Crazy college days?" Lucifer grinned.

"I'm a nurse, remember. I know more about drugs than you do" Kami scoffed, as Lucifer gave her an appreciative glance.

"Getting back to the case…" Chloe trailed off.

"What if this Jillian was actually involved with the drug dealer?" Kami pointed out.

"Yeah, but why would the dealer kill her if they were working together?" Chloe frowned.

"Jillian cut me off recently. Took my latest supply away" Amy confessed, with wide eyes.

"Sounds like a motive to me" Kami suggested.

"A murderous killer going on the rampage due to betrayal? Definitely sounds like my Mum" Lucifer exclaimed, as Kami gave him a confused look.

"Okay, I feel like I'm missing something here" Kami frowned.

As Kami listened to Lucifer ramble on about how he thought his mother was somehow involved with the case, Chloe couldn't help but giggle at the different expressions that grew on her sister's face. From disbelief to concern and then right back to confusion again. A rollercoaster of emotions, ending with what appeared to be a breakdown of her mind.

"So…you genuinely think this drug dealer is your mother?" Kami tried to clarify.

"Well, she is clever enough to pull it off" Lucifer replied.

"Wait, back up a minute. Why do you even think she's around here? Has she contacted you or something?" Kami insisted.

"In a way. She's escaped from her cell" Lucifer admitted, as Kami's brow furrowed.

"She was in prison?!" Kami gaped.

"Of sorts. My brother is to blame. Amenadiel was supposed to be keeping tabs on her" Lucifer explained.

"Because that makes all sorts of sense. When you want to actually come back to Earth, I'm tracking the drug dealer's number. I'll text you when we get a location" Chloe rolled her eyes, wandering over to her car.

"I suppose you don't believe me either" Lucifer grumbled, pulling a cigarette out of his pocket.

"…If you believe, that's good enough for me" Kami shrugged, as Lucifer's hands faltered, just as he was taking his lighter out of his suit.

"Really?" Lucifer asked, with a small smile.

"It's insane, but…recently things around here have been pretty crazy. So, why the hell not?" Kami exclaimed.

"See, now why can't your sister be more open-minded like you" Lucifer grinned.

"Because she's the only one with a brain cell between us" Kami gigged, as they shared an amused look.

"But I am going to need more info than just 'she was locked up', Luce. What's the story with your mum?" Kami insisted, watching as Lucifer's expression fell.

"I don't like to talk about it" Lucifer mumbled, in a soft voice.

"Then just give me the cliff notes?" Kami pushed, as Lucifer let out a long sigh.

"She abandoned me when I needed her the most and so…I did the same to her. Dad chucked her out, got her locked away in a cell and I did nothing. Didn't even give her a chance to defend herself. I mean, what could she possibly say that would justify what she did?...What would she say?" Lucifer frowned.

"Maybe it's time you heard her out?" Kami suggested.

"And if she acts just like Penelope?" Lucifer retorted as Kami gave him a thoughtful look.

"Then we kick her to the kerb and never speak of her again" Kami shrugged.

"We?" Lucifer questioned, as she gave him a grin.

"I figured dealing with shitty parents was kind of our thing now" Kami said, as he gave her a smirk.

"I think Maze will certainly want to…" Lucifer trailed off, his mouth going slack when he noticed someone standing behind the brunette.

"Raum?" Lucifer gaped, eyes almost popping out of his head, as he stared at the bearded man cowering a few metres away.

"Your highness" The man bowed; his eyes averted to the ground in submission.

"A friend of yours?" Kami frowned, her eyes darting between the two men.

"Not for much longer…I'll meet you at the station" Lucifer mumbled, storming towards Raum, looking ready to tear him apart.

Before Kami could argue, Lucifer had grabbed Raum's shirt and was dragging him away, not caring how his limbs flailed around. Once he had pulled the man around a nearby street corner, he moved his hand to cover Raum's throat, his eyes flickering their red colour.

"What are you doing here, demon?! Has the ban on possession somehow lifted in my absence?" Lucifer spat out, his anger clear.

"I…I…came to…deliver…" The demon choked, as Lucifer realised he was getting close to killing the creature.

"Oh, right" Lucifer muttered, taking his hand away as Raum flopped to the ground, his hand flying to his throat.

"A message. There is trouble in Hell" Raum stated, making Lucifer scoff.

"Yes. I know of my mother's escape act. Amenadiel let that cat out the bag" Lucifer explained, as Raum slowly slid back up the wall.

"Your mother is not the only one to escape from Hell" Raum told him, catching Lucifer's attention.

"What do you mean?" Lucifer frowned.

"…It's the souls, your highness. The souls are disappearing" Raum announced, as a look of horror washed over Lucifer's face.
