Chapter 3
It was the morning of the first part of the chunin exams and currently, team 11 was in suna since the exams were being held there this time around. They were heading to the designated room to begin the exam. Outside the room, Mikoto met with her team to give them some last minute advice and wish them good luck. She left in a swirl of leaves and team 11 entered the room.
As soon as they entered, all eyes were immediately on them. They looked around the room and saw people from each of the five great villages: suna, Konoha, kumo, kiri and iwa. After five minutes, the examiner entered the room and gave out instructions and passed out papers to begin the exam. Getting his paper, Naruto read through and quickly realized that cheating was essential. He used a wind spell to exchange his paper with someone he saw that had answers, likely a plant he mused, and wrote his name on that paper. Then, after forty-five minutes had passed, the proctor gathered everyone's attention and explained the final part of the test. [A.N. At the end of the exam, those who passed were told of the second part which was being held out in the desert. They were instantly transported to a random location in the desert and told that they had five days to make it back to suna's gates. On the third day, team 11 arrived at the gates looking slightly tired and winded. They were met by their sensei who congratulated them for making it to the third round and told them that it was to be held in one month's time here in suna. She also informed them that they were leaving to Konoha in four hours time so that they should head back to their hotel and pack and get some rest.
Returning to Konoha took team 11 two and a half days and as soon as they arrived, they went to their training grounds to discuss a plan for the next month. "Okay, I am very proud of you for being able to reach the third round of the chunin exams especially in a foreign country. Not many teams are able to do so even if they have home field advantage. Now then, I will be helping Izumi for the next month with her training as I am the best suited to do so. Takeshi, I have asked the medical corps to assist in your training. You will also be learning some ninjutsu and some new moves to add to your taijutsu style. Naruto, kushina informed me of her desire to train you in some Uzumaki clan techniques over the month as well as another training regime that she has planned out for you. Now then Naruto, takeshi, even though I will be training izumi for the next month, I am still your sensei and will be available to help you with anything during the month so you can feel free to come to the Uchiha compound for any assistance. We will meet up here in twenty-two days time. Ok, you are dismissed. I have to go inform hokage-sama that we have participants in the third round of the exams," said Mikoto to her team and she left in a shunshin.
Arriving home, Naruto was met by kushina who told him that from the next morning she would be training him for the next twenty two days.
Timeskip twenty-two days later
Currently we meet team 11 awaiting their sensei's arrival at training ground 11. Arriving in a shunshin, Mikoto looked at her team. She was sure that they would be fine and stood a very good chance of being promoted to chunin. Coming out of her musings, she began, "ok so we have been apart for some time and I hope that your time was well spent. I am looking forward to seeing your matches in the exams. We will need three days to get to suna so we will leave later this afternoon so that when we get to suna you would have a resting period before the matches begin." "Hai Mikoto-sensei!" was the response she got and she dismissed her team. Before he could leave, Izumi stopped him to ask if he wanted to go get some dango with her. Not having much to do as he was already packed and they had quite a few hours till their departure time,he agreed.
The afternoon came quite quickly and we find team 11 at the gates ready for departure. They set out immediately and stopped on the border of fire and wind for the night. Two days later, team 11 arrived at suna where they went to their delegated rooms to rest before the exams began.
Suna Stadium
In the stadium, the stands were filled with people who came to see the matches. Up on the balcony sat the kages of four of the five villages: the kazekage of suna; the hokage of Konoha; the mizukage of kiri and the tsuchikage of iwa. The raikage did not come as he had no genin participating in the finals and he did not think that there were any credible talents to come to scope out. Looking down in the sand, the kaekage gave the signal to start to the proctor.
Receiving the signal, the proctor arrived in the stadium and informed the chunin hopefuls that their matches would be decided at random and that the first match would be Naruto of Konoha vs kotaro of kiri.
Naruto vs kotaro
Taking their stances, pakura started the match. Naruto flung some shuriken towards his opponent and dashed towards him while his shurken were being blocked. They engaged in a taijutsu bout where Naruto showed he had the upper hand. Jumping back, Naruto quickly manoeuvres to end the match but his opponent makes a handsign and draws his blade calling out 'hidden mist jutsu'. Maintaining his calm demeanour, Naruto felt for his opponent in the mist. He dodged a slash and created some distance where he used a strong wind technique to blow the mist away. Seeing this, kotaro made a mad dash for Naruto intending to stab him with his blade but Naruto avoided this by jumping up and delivered a heel kick to the back of his head which knocked kotaro out as it connected.
Coming over to check on kotaro, pakura exclaimed to the crowd, "winner of the first match: Naruto of Konoha!"
The second match was then shown to be a suna genin named Gari and an iwa genin called suzume.
Gari vs Suzume
The match began with suzume using 'earth style: earth flow spears' which the suna genin countered by sinking into the ground. Gari then appeared under suzume and used 'earth style: double decapitation jutsu' to pull her under the ground and placed a kunai at her neck to get her to surrender but suzume turned to mud indicating that she was a mud clone. Appearing behind the suna genin, the used 'earth style: rock prison' to trap her opponent and get him to surrender.
Upon hearing his surrender, pakura gave the announcement that suzume of iwa had won the match.
Moving on to the third match, it was shown that Takeshi and Dei from iwa were next
Takeshi vs Dei
The match started with takeshi using 'fire style: fireball jutsu' to which dei used the earth wall jutsu to counter. Takeshi rushed to dei to engage in a taijutsu battle. This bout progressed with neither combatant gaining an edge. Takeshi then decided to use the chakra scalpel technique to cut his opponents arms and legs which made him slower and attack less powerful. With this advantage, takeshi then used his medical knowledge to attack dei's pressure points using a senbon needle which KOed him leading to takeshi being declared the victor.
The next match was shown as kenta of kiri and shiki of suna
Kenta vs Shiki
The match began with shiki using his strongest wind attack to blow his opponent away into the wall of the stadium, knocking him out.
The entire stadium was shocked silent at the very short matchup but then cheered for the skill displayed by the young suna genin.
The next match showed Izumi and bakki of suna
Izumi vs Bakki
As soon as the proctor began the match, izumi activated her sharingan and looked at her opponent in the eye. Unknown to bakki, he was already caught in a genjutsu but he proceeded to attack with his ability to control sand. Unfortunately for him, he was not attacking Izumi as she silently and quickly moved behind him and knocked him out while he was still under her genjutsu. The proctor quickly announced that she was the victor and moved on to the next matchup. [A.N. I AM SKIPPING THE OTHER MATCHES AND WILL ONLY SHOW TEAM 11 MATCHES NOW]
After the first round matches-on the viewing balcony
On the balcony, the kages were involved in a discussion of the matches and what the candidates showed thus far. "okay so the first match we saw Naruto and kotaro. I believe that kotaro isn't ready for a promotion this time around, what do you think," asked the kazekage. The other kages agreed. "And of young Naruto?" asked the hokage. At this the mizukage spoke up " I think that we need to see more of his skill before granting him the promotion all he showed was a wind technique and some taijutsu. Even though he was in control of the matchup from the start, I would like to see what else he is capable of." At this, the other kages agreed. "What of the other candidates?" asked the tsuchikage. "Gari did well but his opponent caught him off guard with her mud clone and suzume had a good showing for a first match. I believe that suzume should be promoted but I would like to see what she does in the other matches. The match between kenta and shiki was too short to determine if anyone should be promoted and the matchup between izumi and bakki showed that izumi was in total control of the match from the beginning. Takeshi also did pretty well and showcased his skill and knowledge on the medical field. The other matches did not show that the combatants had what it took for a chunin promotion." Said the hokage. The other kages agreed with his assessment and awaited the second round to begin.
