You guys deserve this chapter, doesn't have as much Rizzoli family as I had planned lol but I'm sure that's a good thing as you'll find out as you read.
Jane spent hours talking to Frost she lost track of time, but there were seven years of things they needed to get caught up on. Gabriel had finally been picked up by his parents and Frost was joining the Rizzoli clan for lunch.
Jane kept on observing her mother, something was up and she needed to get to the bottom of it. It was going to bother her until she found out. When her dad joined them for lunch it was confusing because he never came home for lunch and then they were taking in hushed whispers again. Jane was in her thoughts while her brothers asked Frost about all the places he's been to since he moved seven years ago.
She knew she needed to ask to see if she was allowed to go out tomorrow so she could sort of plan where to meet Maura at. Jane didn't know why she was so nervous to ask her parents, she was 18 now even if they said no it wouldn't exactly matter, but she was polite to ask. "Ma, Pop may I ask you a question?"
Both of her parents looked up, "Anything Janie," Frank nodded, Angela did the same.
"I was thinking that tomorrow I could maybe go adventure throughout the suburbs, kind of like a day thing, getting acquainted with my thoughts and having some alone time before school starts. Possibly go to the aquarium I still have some money saved up."
"Well it doesn't matter to me Jane, but you need to do some chores first and of course be home in time to help make dinner," Angela answered causing Frank to frown.
"I actually had another answer in mind there Ang. I had plans to teach Jane how to drive, you know it's sad she's 18 and has no driving experience. It's quite concerning, don't you think?"
Angela shrugged, "I guess but she can always learn at night, that's when I started to learn, you can teach her after dinner. Let her enjoy at least a little bit of her freedom while she still has it."
Frank sighed, "Fine, does that work for you Jane?"
Jane nodded and smiled, "Yeah that's fine by me, it'll be a very productive day," she went to go pull out her cell phone to text Maura but her parents stared at her.
"No cell phones at the table Janie."
"I'm just setting my alarm so I'm not late for dinner tomorrow, I should be responsible right?"
Frank and Angela smiled pleased with her answer before going back to their talk with hushed whispers.
Jane shook her head and texted Maura. Good news, I can hang out with you tomorrow but I have to be home by 4PM. I'll take what I can get to see you. Hope that time works for you. She tucked her phone away and finished off her lunch.
"Wanna go play some basketball?" Jane asked her brothers and Frost who just finished up their lunch. "2 on 2. I pick Frost as my teammate."
"Jane you can't pick right now, that's not fair," Tommy pouted.
"And I'm just getting over feeling sick," Frankie drank his water.
"Fine you guys suck. Come on Frost I'll go walk you home, I think it's awesome that you got to move back into your childhood home, so you'll be in the neighborhood. Ma, Pop is it alright if I walk Frost home?"
"Of course sweetie, you two have fun," Angela smiled causing Jane to roll her eyes, but soon she was out the front door with Frost, she linked her arm with his.
"Your parents do sort of seem off, you said it's been happening for a while?"
"I hear them fight a lot when they think I'm not around. It felt really tense today, Pop never comes home for lunch, it's quite concerning," she sighed, stopping on the sidewalk when she felt her phone ping. Maura responded to her text message.
Mother and I have a few things to take care of when we get to Boston, but maybe you can join us for lunch. I'm sure mother won't mind. I know I certainly wouldn't. I wish I could see you now though.
At Maura's message Jane smirked, turning to Frost. "Hey you're a tech wizard still right?" she asked and he nodded. "Is there a way I can like talk to Maura on the phone but you know visually see her. And you can see if my girl is good enough to take on me."
Frost stuck his hand out and Jane placed her phone in his hand. She seen him typing stuff and a moment later he handed her the phone back. "It's called Skype, you know if you had this before we could have been talking for the last couple of years."
Jane smiled, "Well I'd much rather see you in person than over the phone," she gave him a nudge and smirked at her username, RizzoliroxBoston, "Frost thanks for my username."
Do you have Skype? We can see each other Barry says, he just made me a thing. RizzoliroxBoston is my username.
Jane made it to Frost's house, sitting down on the porch steps before Maura responded, Frost joining her on the steps. Just added you, you just have to accept the call.
Jane smiled, pressing accept call, giving Frost a nudge before Maura's face popped up on her screen. "Woah," Frost whispered and Jane rolled her eyes.
"Hands off Barry, she's mine," she grinned waving to Maura. "Hi Maura Isles I'd like for you to meet Barry Frost, and Barry that's Maura my..." she looked around for a moment before smiling. "My girlfriend."
Maura smirked at her words, "It's nice meeting my girlfriend's friend, just friends right?" she asked and Jane nodded.
"Yup, nothing more, plus he's a minor so that wouldn't look good on my behalf," Jane joked.
"Well it's good that I don't have any competition."
"You'd blow any competition out of the water, trust me on that," Jane looked over to Frost, "You can go, but would you mind if I sat on your porch until I'm done Skyping Maura?"
Frost nodded, "Of course not, it was nice meeting you Maura Isles, Jane I definitely approve of her," he spoke before whispering in her ear. "Plus she's friggin hot." Jane smirked as Frost went inside, before turning her attention back on the beautiful girl on her phone screen.
"Frost thinks you're hot by the way, he's definitely not wrong, but I totally prefer calling you beautiful, it just sounds nicer to me. You are hot though," Jane bit her bottom lip.
"I think you're the hot one Jane. I can't wait to see you in Boston, in person even though this is nice too," Maura leaned back against the couch. "So what did you want to do tomorrow?"
"I told my parents I'd probably go to the aquarium, I don't want to completely lie to them so I think we should go there it's always nice let's just hope it's not swarming with children. I wouldn't want them to feel disturbed by all of our kissing that's bound to happen."
"You seem very confident that there will be kisses."
"Well am I wrong to think so?" Jane licked her lips.
"No you wouldn't be wrong, your confidence is quite endearing. I wish I could kiss you right now. A lot of kisses I'd give to you."
"Is that a promise?" Jane asked and Maura grinned.
"I promise, I'll kiss those soft, warm lips anytime."
"I like the sound of that, I'll hold you close so you can't escape. Tomorrow can't come quick enough babe. Would you be okay with if I just stowed you away in my room and we never leave it?"
"Well we'd have to leave at some point for food and bathroom breaks, and freshening up after all that kissing we're bound to do."
"And there's a chance it will lead to um... other things."
Maura nodded, "If we were ready for that next step then we can discuss that, but taking things slow is a good pace, plus whenever I left and we had to go days, maybe even weeks before seeing each other having that sort of union would make the next time we see each other feel like forever."
"That sounds a little dramatic Maura, forever is a mighty long time, much longer than weeks."
"Plus I'd much rather enjoy my union with you after you are comfortable enough to come out to your parents."
Jane frowned at her words and nodded, "What if I'm never ready?"
Maura shrugged, "Well I would hope you'd be ready at some point, even if it takes some time. You'd be worth the wait."
"You really don't understand Maura, I can't tell them... just trust me whenever you meet them you'll know why..."
"How can I meet them if they don't know about me? About who I am to you?"
Jane ran her fingers through her hair in frustration, "I-I don't know..." Jane sighed she didn't like seeing Maura frown, she also didn't appreciate her mother's text message telling her to come home and not knowing what was taking her so long. "Maura, I have to go home now I'm being summoned by my mother."
"Alright, I'll just see you tomorrow then. Goodbye Jane."
Before Jane could say anything the video chat got disconnected. "Dammit," she got up from the porch steps and headed home. This relationship was going to be a challenge Jane thought to herself. There were just some things that couldn't be done, and opening up to her parents about this scared the hell out of her.
The rest of Jane's day dragged on as she completed all of her chores so she didn't have to do them the next day.
The next day came and she was finishing up unpacking. She spent a moment finding out what she wanted to wear, something comfortable but nice enough for lunch with Maura and Constance they were bound to want to go somewhere classy. Jane would have just preferred to eat pizza or go to her favorite deli, somewhere simple. Jane got her bus pass and took the bus to the restaurant Maura said they would be meeting at. She waited outside on the bench fiddling with her hands. She kept looking at her phone at the time, becoming more anxious. Jane sighed when a Mercedes pulled up and Maura and Constance both exited from the back seat, of course they'd have a car service.
Jane stood up and she felt suddenly overwhelmed. The car drove off and Constance approached Jane with Maura behind her. "Jane darling, it's so nice seeing you again," she kissed her cheeks in greeting, Jane had to resist the urge to wipe the kisses off her cheeks, she wanted to be polite.
"Good afternoon Jane," Maura greeted quietly, extending her hand out, Jane shook her hand, kind of surprised with how Maura greeted her. Constance even gave her a shrug as they went inside.
"Isles, reservation for three," Constance told the maitre'd who nodded, grabbing the menus.
"Right this way," he spoke. When they arrived to their table nearest to the kitchen, the man helped Constance into her chair and Jane following suit pulled out the chair for Maura, who finally smiled as she sat down, after tucking it Jane sat down next to Maura, shifting slightly not sure whether Maura wanted to hold her hand or not. "Your usual wine Mrs. Isles?"
"Yes, thank you Jeffrey, surprised that you remembered."
"A man never forgets what a woman likes to drink," he smirked before disappearing into the kitchen.
"So it's nice that your parents let you join us for lunch," Constance smiled at the girl next to her daughter.
"I oh um... they don't know that I'm here."
"Yes mother, remember what I told you," Maura eyed her mother who nodded.
"Yes I must have forgotten, it's a shame that they aren't open to the idea as I am about you and my daughter. I think it's nice seeing the youth happy these days, I could always talk to them, let them know that it's okay."
"Mother please, I told you not to bring it up," Maura begged and Constance sighed.
"I just want her to know that I'm here for her and I support this union. You always have a place for me, just remember that," Constance directed towards Jane.
"I thank you for being so accepting, it's nice to know that not everyone is judgmental," Jane flipped through the menu, trying to figure out what she wanted to eat, based on the pictures, she felt Maura rest a hand on her knee in comfort. Jane looked up at Maura, her eyes seemed brighter somehow, she leaned over to press a kiss to her cheek. "Can you order for me? I don't know what any of this means. Something edible is preferred. Nothing that lives under the sea."
"Is that a preference or an allergy?" Maura looked up at Jane.
"Oh I'm not allergic to anything except stupidity, but anything fishy isn't my specialty."
"I was thinking about getting the salmon, you sure that you don't want to try it? It's delicious here."
"I'm more of a steak or pizza person, but I'll try a bite of your salmon dish. They do have steak here, don't they?" Jane asked with a frown and Maura nodded.
"Yeah they do, filet mignon, the best kind of steak that there is, it's served with vegetables, you do like greens right?"
"Not preferably no, but if I want to be involved in sports I need to have my fair share of vegetables. I plan to be on the baseball team at school, two years ago I made a petition and it allows girls on the baseball team, I mean I'm the only one who dares to join the team," Jane smiled, "You'll come watch me at games sometimes, right?"
Maura smiled, "Of course, you'll just have to give me your schedule in advanced so I can plan accordingly," she shared a look with her mother, they agreed not to tell Jane any kind of news unless everything was set in stone. Maura didn't want to get Jane's hopes up.
The maitre'd came back with a bottle of wine, and three glasses setting them down and pouring the wine. Jane looked at the glass, she's never had wine before, sometimes her dad let her have some beers while they watched the Sox play on television, but that was only when Angela wasn't paying attention.
Maura and Constance ordered the food and as Jeffrey left again Jane swirled the wine around in her glass. "I didn't know I could get alcohol without an I.D."
"It's a French restaurant, Jeffrey believes that if you are eating French food that he can serve alcohol, plus he's an old time friend, so no worries," Constance reassured Jane. "Plus it's a celebration, my daughter is finally truly happy, I wish I noticed it when she wasn't."
Jane smiled, "You don't have to tell me twice, cheers?" she asked and Constance nodded, clinking their glasses together, Jane did the same with Maura's before taking a sip. "Damn, this is pretty good. You know if I knew Paris' drinking age was 18 I would have gotten some while I was there."
"It is the best wine straight from Paris, glad you're enjoying it."
"I'm enjoying the company too," she winked at Maura, causing the girl to blush.
Lunch went well and it was very enjoyable, Jane actually liked the salmon dish Maura had, Maura ended up giving her other half to Jane. Jane seemed to never get full and it made Maura smile, just observing her girlfriend enjoy her meal.
After lunch was over the car came back to pick Jane and the Isles' up, Constance sat up front giving a chance for the girls to get some alone time, Jane linked her arm with Maura as they leaned into each other. Jane noticed that Constance kept looking back at them from the mirror, when they stopped at the aquarium she turned to look at them. "I have some other errands I need to do, just remember to call me when you're ready to be picked up."
"Thanks mother," Maura leaned over to kiss her cheek before sliding out of the car with Jane.
"Thanks for lunch Mrs. Isles."
"Please feel free to call me Constance, you're family now," she smiled before Jane exited the car and closed the door. She looked at Maura in confusion as the car drove off.
"Was lunch some sort of initiation for me to become an Isles?"
"Sometimes my mother speaks when she shouldn't, I wouldn't let her words get to you, she likes you for me is all. Around Christmas time you can expect the real initiation to begin," Maura ended wit a smile causing Jane to frown.
"You're not serious, are you? It's bad enough my own mother is trying to marry me off to some guy, any guy really."
"I thought Jane Rizzoli would recognize a joke when I made one," Maura rested her hand on her cheek. "I think you let your own mother get to you too much," she pressed her lips against Jane's lips. "Do you feel better now?"
Jane wrapped her arms around Maura's waist, pulling her close, "Much better," she continued the kiss, deepening it slightly. Jane was unsure how they ended up against the wall outside the aquarium, her hands rested on Maura's hips, not wanting to come out of this moment.
Maura pulled back moments later licking her lips. "Maybe it is possible to kiss someone all day, you taste like wine, salmon and steak, it's a very distinct taste. The taste of Jane," she whispered and Jane smiled at her.
"Maybe being an Isles wouldn't be so bad, getting to do this whenever I want," she ran her hand up Maura's arm. "I think I might just be absolutely crazy about you," she pressed a kiss along her jaw. "Is that wrong of me to feel that way?"
Maura shook her head, "Only if I didn't feel the same way then maybe just a little wrong," she kissed Jane once more before grabbing her hand. "Maybe we should go actually inside the aquarium and observe the sea creatures."
"Don't you think they'd realize I ate one of their family members? I think I'd just feel guilty looking at them now."
"Well I don't think the sharks will care, they're not exactly friendly. Garett made me watch Shark Week before, it was sort of brutal."
"Yeah, but sharks are the best. We can do something else though, you ever rode a city bus before, or do you always travel by a car service?"
"I rode the subway once, scarred me for life, do you realize how unsanitary a place like that is? Public transportation is one of my greatest fears, catching something from them."
Jane laughed, stroking her face, "I'm surprised you like kissing me so much, I'm always on public transportation."
"Well I hope you would know how to wash your hands and not kiss strangers."
"I mean I kissed you when we were just strangers."
"That you did, but aren't you glad that you did, that we kissed quite a bit," Maura smiled up at Jane, who blushed.
"Oh yeah, and here we are still continuing to do so, this might be one of my new favorite activities, kissing Maura Isles."
"You know it just might be my new favorite activity as well. If you wanted to continue maybe we could find a seat, there seems to be a vacant bench right over there looking out onto the bay," Maura suggested and Jane grabbed her by the hand, walking over to the bench. "See isn't this better?"
Jane nodded, "So much better," Jane placed her hand on the back of Maura's neck pulling her close, latching her mouth onto hers. Nothing going on in her mind except of how amazing this woman is. So amazing, that at this point in time Jane didn't care who seen her kissing a girl. She was crazy about Maura Isles and she wanted anyone to know it. Well except for her parents, that would definitely have to wait, the more she spent with Maura, how Constance called her family the more she didn't care about what her parents thought. Jane was right where she wanted to be.
Hope you guys enjoyed this chapter, next one finishes up summer and starts the school year. Not sure how long this story will be not as long as Undeniable Feelings. I know exactly how this story is going to end but it's a Rizzles coming of age story so you'll see more than just senior year of Rizzles I promise. And since this is loosely based off of Grease if you seen the movie you'll know why if you look real close.
