Maura and Jane made it back to the Isles household, taking public transportation much to the dismay of Maura, she definitely wasn't used to that she felt like she was covered in germs.

"Aren't you overreacting just a bit babe, the city bus isn't that bad, it's those public school busses you need to look out for which is why I get a ride to school." Jane spoke to her girlfriend through her bathroom door as Maura insisted to take a bath the moment she got inside.

"But what if I catch something because I didn't clean up properly."

"I suppose that you want me to clean up as well, God forbid I sit on your bed after being on a bus."

"Jane Rizzoli, your ass better not be near any of my furniture."

"Oh look I got my girlfriend to use such a vulgar language," Jane teased, pushing the door to the bathroom open.

"Jane, why are you in here?"

"You said it yourself, you don't want to catch anything from being on the bus, figured I might as well use the bath after you're done with it. Although I don't have a change of clothes so that means I'll just be in the nude, all my goodies hanging out."

"I will lend you some of my clothes but get out of the bathroom, you really don't need to be in here."

"Alright, but no need to be shy, we're both adults here, and we're dating so we'll see each other naked eventually," Jane shrugged and left the bathroom, closing the door behind her.

"Thanks for being so understanding and I'm really sorry your father decided to drop by unannounced."

"Don't worry about it, he's an ass, nothing new there. He's just a big abandoner."

"Jane, that's not even a word," Maura came out of the bathroom a towel around her body and towel in her hair.

"Wow," Jane stopped to stare at her girlfriend. "Shit you're gorgeous," she went in to lean forward attempting to give Maura a kiss on the cheek when the woman stepped back, shaking her head.

"Uh uh, Jane bathtub now. Get those bus gems off of you first."

"As you wish," Jane nodded and headed into the bathroom smiling as Maura had the tub all situated for her.

Jane closed her eyes for a moment after entering the tub, all her stress seemed to just slip away.

"You know Jane, I could always ask my parents if you can stay over, I'm sure that they won't mind, they surely never did when Garrett was around."

"Maura, talking about your ex while I'm in your tub trying to relax, isn't very relaxing. But I'm sure my mother would understand why I don't want to be home right now."

"Do you think when he wakes up hungover that he's going to want to stay?"

"Ma wouldn't just forgive him for what he did, he would have to work for it. And honestly if Ma goes back to him I don't even think I'd know who she was anymore."

"Isn't that a little harsh Jane?"

"No, she'd do anything to make my brothers happy, even if that means she's miserable. But I wish how she'd have her own damn mind, you know. Wanted some independence. I'm really not enjoying this bath with all this talking," Jane spoke in an angry tone, causing Maura to frown.

"Okay we won't talk anymore, good night Jane," Maura changed into her pajamas and headed towards the guest room.

"Maura, that's not what I meant. Maura! Are you still there?" Jane grunted in frustration, getting out of the tub and drying off with the towel. She noticed a pair of clean clothes laid out on Maura's bed, Jane went to go put them on before going to find out where her girlfriend went. She heard Maura sniffling about two doors down. "Maura, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to sound mad at you, I'm not I just Ma frustrates me sometimes not being her own person." Jane went to slip into the bed, underneath the covers, pulling her girlfriend close. "She'll do anything to please other people but not please herself. She's my inspiration in a way, what if I end up clinging to something that's not meant to last, like she is if she gets back with my father."

"Do you think we won't last?"

Jane shrugged, "I don't like there being a possibility that we won't end up together forever, but it's something to consider just in case. It's just that people drift apart after high school and I really don't want it to happen but it could. You end up going to this smart people college and I'll be helping out with kids baseball summer camp forever, you meet new people forget about your first girlfriend and then that's it."

Maura listened to her words, "I'm never going to forget about you Jane, you mean everything to me you know, faults and all. You're my person Jane, and I'm not going to let you go no matter where life takes us, and you know why?"

"Why?" Jane asked, looking into her girlfriend's eyes.

"Because Jane, because I love you. I love you like I never loved anyone, you make me feel so whole. So normal."

Jane felt her heartbeat pick up it's pace after Maura's confession. "I'm so relieved to hear that because, I think I may love you too. I'm not one hundred percent sure, but I know that I never want to be without you," she nuzzled her nose against Maura's before kissing her, the kiss felt nice and soft, Jane couldn't help but pout when Maura pulled away.

"I'll be right back Jane," she kissed the top of her head, before leaving the bed and the room. Jane sighed, Maura loved her, she would never get tired of hearing it. What felt like hours Maura finally returned.

"Where did you go?"

Maura smiled, "I wanted to give you something, give you something my father gave my mother after he admitted to being in love with her. I had to ask for their blessing of course and they approved that you are an amazing person for me." She took the small box out of her pajama pants.

"Maura, you're not proposing to me, are you?"

"Of course not Jane, it's a promise ring. Promising that I'm always going to love you no matter what life throws at us. It's me making a promise to you that we'll spend the rest of our lives together one day. If you don't want to accept I understand..."

Jane smiled, tears in her eyes. "Of course I want to accept this, it's beautiful, just like you. And just that you thought to give it to me, it truly means a lot. You're an incredible woman Maura Isles and I'm so proud to be able to call you mine. I think maybe it's safe enough to go back to your bedroom now, I want to show you how much you mean to me."

"You mean?"

"Yes that's exactly what I mean, even though it feels like what happens in a sappy movie. I want you Maura Isles and I think I always have."

"I want to make love to you too. No regrets in the morning?"

"No regrets, I'm right exactly where I want to be," Jane admitted softly before taking Maura's hand in hers as they went back to her girlfriend's bedroom, closing the door behind them. Tonight was going to be perfect, tonight it was just them, nothing else mattered except for each other.
