Chapter three is up. This time, we see the start of Resistance invasion of the Empire. And with this, the appearance of Allied Kingdoms. So with this, we're gonna hook on Battle of Alnus Hill for a bit.

Terhis City Main Plaza, Angier Prime
Since the Battle of Terhis, Resistance took the best measures to secure the Gate. Whole construction was covered by the steel dome. Main Plaza was completely changed into military controlled zone, with no civilian access without permission. Bunkers were set, with their MGs pointed in the direction of the Gate, while two African Union A-77 Behemoth tanks had their cannons pointed at it. There also was monument created to celebrate the memory of those killed in the attack.
Although it was a Human territory, due to the situation regarding the other species citizens, leaders of not only African Union and UN, but also other Resistance allies agreed to perform a full scale invasion through the Gate.
The attack of Terhis City cannot be classified as nothing else, than a simple terrorist attack. It is the biggest slaughter African Union ever saw, since the attack on Fez by Holy Order terrorists seven years ago. Because of that, we need to respond with the same thing as our enemy: force.-Orambu Mbene, Leader of African Union Council

Our relations with Humans maybe weren't been good since our first encounter over one hundred years ago, but many things changed. Now, together with our Resistance allies, we must too stand against what lays beyond the Gate's darkness. It doesn't matter, that our people weren't harmed in the attack. Numerous other smaller Resistance members promised their support to Humans in their plans, but their calls drowned under the statements of Resistance Great Five and African Union. Soon, Task Force 03, as the only military fleet in the Angier System at the time of the attack, was given the full authorization for operations behind the Gate in the now called 'Special System'.
Vehicles were shipped to the planet's surface and troops were prepared for crossing on the other side of now domed building.
"Is it good, that I really can't wait for crossing?"Anastasia Tocchelli, former Holy Order Marine and now member of White Squadron, asked.
"No. I wait for it, too."Jacqueline 'Jackie' Taylor, refugee from Federal Principality of Minenia and the last member of White Squadron, replied.
White Squadron was among the soldiers, which were about to cross the Gate in the first wave of attack. Around them, numerous Nashini, Shakayan, Chakdrik and Human soldiers were standing.
"Can you remind me, why Aqi isn't going with us?"Lena asked.
Others looked at her.
"She said, that she will arrive with Tertan expeditionary corp, once Tertan Defense Force get enough volunteers."Arlette replied.
"So she's gonna have a longer break."Yuko stated.
"This is how it is, when your father is leader of the country."Ester stated.
"Attention!"colonel Richards exclaimed.
There was a sound of hundreds of feet hitting the ground. Soldiers looked at the pedestal in front of them and saw captain Eriksson entering it. They all saluted.
"Soldiers."Eriksson started."Today is a big day. We managed to decrypt the documents gathered by our scouting units. Thanks to this, we now know, that our new enemy is the so-called 'Saderan Empire', which lays on the continent of Falmart. Their language is similar to Latin, but it's still not fully decrypted. They wanted to attack the Terhis City with two goals: subjugation and conquest."
Hearing this soldiers showed their anger by narrowing their eyes, but it couldn't been seen, due to their masks covering their faces.
"Now, due to the failure, they decided to cut the so-called 'Alnus Hill' on which their Gate lays from the rest of their country. But our Marines managed to destroy the enemy defenses around the hill. Because of that, we can now start our crossing of the Gate and show them, that will of Resistance cannot be broken!"Eriksson exclaimed.
Soldiers started cheering, lifting weapons in the air.
"We fought Holy Order for the last twenty years. After all this time, we're still not broken and we're still fighting. This is why today, the Empire will see, why we still resist."Eriksson ended and soldiers agreed with him."Open!"
The dome doors operator saluted and pulled a lever on his console and soon, the dome started opening, revealing the darkness inside the Gate. Marines, Army and Fighter Infantry soldiers started getting inside the armored personnel carrier and infantry fighting vehicles. Tanks, which had to lead the charge, were standing in the front.
Nashini tanker POV
I was sitting in the hatch of my turret, when tank started moving into the darkness in front of us. Once we entered the Gate, were were covered by the inscrutable darkness. I looked around, but couldn't see anything, except of my tank and column of vehicles behind us.
"Dark as hell."Human Marine sitting on my tank said.
"Could be worse."I said."We could see nothing."
But then, I saw a light at the end. As we approached it, it became bigger and bigger, until finally we entered a glade on top of a hill, under the night sky. Soldiers immediately started jumping off the tank and exiting their vehicles.
I reached into the turret and grabbed my binoculars. I looked in the distance and saw hundreds of torches light up. There were literally hundreds of them.
"Enemy forces in sight."I reported."Requesting permission to open fire."
"Permission granted."my commander replied.
Human Marine POV
"Move your asses, Marines! It's time to show them, why we are the elite of Resistance!"colonel Richards ordered.
Me and my squad started to lay down on the ground and aimed our weapons and approaching enemy forces. Next to us, one of the newer C-22 walking tanks started searching for the targets.
"Sergeant, fire at everything what manages to get in the distance of 50 meters."colonel Richards said.
"Roger, kill everything that get's in range of 50 meters."I relayed to the rest of my squad.
Soon, we all heard enemy war cry as they charged towards us. All guns and riffles were aimed at them.
"Fire!"I said and soon, everything started firing.
Two days later…

Sadera, Imperial Senate
"Forgive me my rudeness, but it seems to be a grave error."a senator said as he stood in front of the Emperor and other senators."The loss of sixth of Empire's fighting force! How do you intend to compensate for this unprecedented disaster?"
Emperor didn't responded. He sat on the throne, watching the other senators.
"Your Majesty."the senator said."How does Emperor intend to lead this Empire?"
"Marquis Garcel."Molt finally spoke."I do share your concern, but you must think about how the people feel."
"Hm?"Marquis Garcel asked.
"It is true, that I spent last nights sleepless, thinking of foreign rulers rising against us as one. But even with the lose of our military advantage, we always managed to pull everything together and win, like Arctec War 250 years ago."Emperor said."Every war needs to take lives on both sides."
"But it's been two days since the enemy counterattack!"one of senators, with bandage on his head, said."I never seen such a powerful magic before! Our army was annihilated, not even getting close to the Holy Hill!"
"Then we should continue fighting!"one of generals shouted."We just need to recruit more troops from our vassal states and attack Alnus once more!"
"You want to end like the senators which departed for the Other World and didn't returned?"another senator shouted.
"This enemy will annihilate you as it did with our other armies!"another exclaimed.
"Damn warmonger!"third yelled.
Emperor raised his hand and immediately, everything became quiet. He looked at the senators and said:
"We cannot remain idle. We need to work, if we want to survive as a nation."He turned to the messenger."You! I want you to inform the rulers of our vassal states about the situation and bring their armies to Alnus Hill!"
"Yes, Your Highness!"messenger replied and left.
Messenger didn't wasted time and immediately ran out of the Senate.
Meanwhile, Molt smirked, but in the way nobody could see it.
"I additionally secure the Empire borders with our vassals."he thought.
June 26, 2150, week since Resistance crossing

Outskirts of Alnus Hill
The area around the Holy hill was marked with hundred of thousands of tents, standards and flags. The Allied Kingdoms, which were Empire vassal states of Elbe, League, Alguna and Mudwan, as well as numerous others, immediately answered the call of their overlord. Their leaders knew, that the 'barbarians' from beyond the Gate will not only endanger the Empire, but their nations as well. They couldn't let this happen, so they departed for the Holy Hill of Alnus with their armies.
Commanding this enormous force, was no one other than King Duran of Kingdom of Elbe. He was one of the best military commanders modern world could offer. He took part in numerous imperial campaigns and was respected by his enemies and subordinates alike. His abilities as the commander earned him the title 'The Lion of Elbe'.
At now, he held the meeting with kings of Alguna and Mudwan, as well as Duke Ligu of League Principality. They sat around the table with map of Alnus Hill on it.
"How powerful is enemy army?"King of Alguna asked Duran.
The one-eyed monarch looked at the map.
"According to our scouts, the enemy numbers are just below 10,000."Duran replied.
This caused the laugh from other leaders.
"Just 10,00?"King of Mudwan said through his laugh."We shall crush them with ease!"
However, Duran just shook his head.
"Remember, that they managed to eliminate Empire's garrisons, which were surrounding the Hill. And this force had the numerical advantage."he pointed out.
"Simple luck."Duke Ligu said."Our army will easily overwhelm them, no matter, what they will do."
"Exactly!"King of Alguna agreed with Ligu.
Three leaders then started imagining, how they kill all enemy soldiers, get all their treasures and woman and how they go back beyond the Gate and counterattack them. Duran just watched them with emotionless expression.
"We'll see, how your dreams will come true."he thought.
Meanwhile…
"Are you sure?"Jessica asked the drone operator."300,000 troops?"
"Yes."the operator replied.
To know the surrounding area better, Resistance sent numerous drones to get the mapping done. At now, they knew what lays in range of over fifty kilometers from the Hill. But one of MQ-107 drones found something, what was now on photo in Jessica's hand.
It was a massive field filled with tents in various colors. As she noticed, there were no single imperial flag alongside the flags she could see.
"From what I see, there are no imperial symbols."she said, giving the photo to colonel Uki'Oparla.
Except of Uhike, all commanders of Task Force 03 went through the Gate. As this meeting was taking place, captain Eriksson and admiral Chesterfield were discussing next moves.
Nashini looked at the photo and nodded.
"Me neither. So we can assume, that we have encountered possible enemy allies."Uki'Oparla stated, giving the photo to colonel Magar.
Shakayan shook his head.
"More like vassals."he said."I'm not sure their allies would so happily accept to attack us."
"Anyway, I think we shouldn't fight them."Oksana stated.
Commanders and drone operator looked at her.
"What do you mean by this, Ox?"Jessica asked.
"Think of it. They came here, only because the Empire ordered them. They aren't our target. The Empire is. We should give them a chance to withdraw."Oksana explained.
Marines' leaders nodded in agreement.
"I think you're right. We should give them a chance."Jessica stated.
"Exactly. We don't actually have any business with them, so we might as well give them a message."Uki'Oparla backed her up.
Magar just nodded.
"My boys and girls will take care of that."Shakayan provided."Their masking devices are already boiling."
Few minutes later, squad of Shakayan Marines left the base.
Later that day…
King Duran just ended everyday inspection of his soldiers. As always, they were ready for every order their King would give them. Their equipment was clean and well sharpened, while wyverns and horses were fed and in full power.
Duran entered his tent and immediately knew, that something was not in place. He looked around and noticed a scroll laying on his bed. He approached it and grabbed. It was tied with red ribbon. He took the ribbon off and unrolled the scroll.
The scroll was saying:
"To enemy commanders: We give you a chance to withdraw from Alnus Hill. We don't want to fight you. You're not our true enemy."
Duran read the message three more times. He felt the anger going through him. It was sure, that it was the message from the 'barbarians'. But how did they managed to sneak into his tent? And why didn't nobody alarmed him?
To it, they were giving him a choice! HIM! The Lion of Elbe, one of the most feared commanders on the battlefield! They were saying, they didn't wanted to fight him, like he was nothing for them. He couldn't let this insult go by just like that!
King exited his tent and looked around. He called one of his soldiers.
"Tell other leaders to meet with me in my tent!"Duran ordered.
However, private looked at his King with uncertain look.
"What is it?"Duran asked, knowing, that something was not right.
"The other leaders…"private started.
"What?"
"They…They already departed for Alnus with their armies."private replied.
"WHAT?!"Duran exclaimed furiously."WHEN?!"
"Just few minutes ago. They decided, that it's the best time to attack, as enemy surely isn't expecting us! They said that Imperial Army surely is awaiting them!"
Duran just kicked the shield that was laying next to the entrance to his tent.
"Idiots! I told them to wait!"he exclaimed .
Next, he rushed towards his horse and ridden in towards the position, from which he could see the Holy Hill.
With League, Mudwan and Alguna…
Sound of marching feet and hooves was almost deafening, as Allied Armies marched towards Alnus. On top of the hill, they could see enemy positions, but no enemy troops.
"Where are the enemy forces?"King of Mudwan asked.
"Probably they ran away, seeing our might!"King of Alguna said confidently.
Right then, one of scouts sent by Duke Ligu approached his lord.
"And? What is the status of the Imperial Army?"Duke Ligu asked.
"Sir…There is no imperial soldier in the Hill's vicinity."the scout replied.
"What?"Duke Ligu asked.
He looked towards the Hill. He would swear, that he saw movement on the top.
On the top of Alnus Hill…
Jessica watched the incoming enemy army with her binoculars. She gave them to Oksana.
"It seems, like they didn't took our warning very seriously."Jessica stated.
"At least, we tried. It's just their fault."Oksana replied.
"Maybe at least, the sign will stop them?"Uki'Oparla asked.
The said sign, which read 'RESISTANCE CONTROLLED AREA. NOT AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL WILL BE SHOT', was then trembled by a troll.
"Well. There it goes."Nashini colonel stated.
"So, let's get to the work, Marines!"Jessica ordered.
Marines in the trenches and MG nests aimed their weapons at the incoming enemy army. Artillery, tanks and walkers also prepared to open fire.
Back with Allied Armies…
"Where is the Imperial Army?"Duke Ligu wondered, as Allied Armies reached Alnus.
As his scout said, Imperial army was nowhere to be seen. This truly made him nervous, although he didn't showed this to his men and other leaders of Allied Kingdoms. It was estimated, that Imperial Army will wait for them here. Yet, there was no sign of them.
Duke's thoughts were then brutally interrupted by a cannonade, which came from the top of the Holy Hill. Before he said anything, geysers of fire started erupting in front of his army. Men were being torn apart by the powerful force, even trolls and ogres were not able to withstand it. They simply fell apart into little pieces.
Other Kings also couldn't believe in what was happening in front of them. Their armies were being slaughtered by the enemy, which didn't even had to get close. So what the expeditionary force survivors were saying was true indeed.
Duke Ligu looked in horror at the explosions, until one of them hit him directly. Other monarchs and their forces didn't lasted much longer.
Far away from the hill…
King Duran was standing in the distance of five kilometers from Alnus Hill. Although that, he still could see the geysers of fire engulfing the armies of League, Mudwan and Alguna. It was sure, that these men, as well as their leaders, did not survived.
"Is Alnus Hill spitting fire?"one of King's guards asked.
"What magic is this?"another asked.
But in King's head, there was another question:
"Molt. What have you brought upon us, you old fool?"
Eruptions then stopped. When the dust settled, Duran could see thousands of dead laying on the ground, some still in one piece, while others literally torn apart. In matter of seconds, half of Allied Kingdoms forces were decimated. Even Lion of Elbe couldn't help himself, but fear these 'barbarians'. It was probably the first time he really felt fear.
King watched this scene by few more seconds, until he had nothing to do. He just turned his horse and ridden back to camp, alongside his guards.
Two days later…
Due to the defeat and death of Kings of Mudwan and Alguna and Duke Ligu, together with their armies, only army of Kingdom of Elbe was left. Duran decided, that they can't stop fighting because of that, as other kings and dukes must be avenged.
This is why the next day, Elbe forces attacked the hill with 40,000 men, wyvern and beast men. However, this battle turned out to be another great disaster, as just like other armies, these men were easily decimated. Even wyverns couldn't get close, as enemy used some powerful fire magic, that made them fall from the air.
In just a two days, majority of Allied Kingdoms armies were annihilated.
Duran was sitting in the command tent, looking at the map of the Alnus Hill in front of him. Just few hours ago, he was here with all the leaders of Allied Kingdoms. Now, he was sitting here alone, accompanied only by four of twenty one leaders.
"We lost majority of our troops!"one of surviving kings exclaimed."And we didn't even got close to the hill!"
"Where the hell is Imperial Army?"another leader asked.
"Even the Imperial Army wouldn't be able to face them!"third leader said.
"We need to come up with something."fourth leader said to Duran.
Duran looked at him and shook his head. He didn't knew what to do himself. He just witnessed all other leaders die in matter of seconds. This was something, what nobody wanted to see.
"I need to quickly come up with something."he whispered.
And then, he felt idea appearing in his head. Idea, which often worked in his favor, as it wouldn't be the first time he ever did it.
"Wait. I think I know."Duran said and looked at the map."Tonight will be no moon. We can perform a night raid and surprise the enemy in their sleep. In this darkness, nobody would see us approaching the second side of the hill."
Other leaders looked at him and smiled, knowing, that this tactic is one of the most effective in warfare.
Not long after this, camp was again filled with sounds of the marching soldiers and horses, as the Allied Kingdoms prepared for the night attack.
That night…

Once the night fell upon the land, Allied Armies marched on the Holy Hill. Soldiers tried to behave as quiet as they could with their armor and equipment. Fortunately, this was enough and there was not sign of enemy noticing the army marching on them.
"You was right, Your Highness."one of last leaders said to Duran.
"Stop talking and keep quiet."Duran said to him, as he ridden his horse alongside the columns of soldiers.
He was satisfied with this everything. His army was so quiet, that not even the best Imperial guards would hear him. With this surprise attack, he will surely crush the enemy.
Or that was what he was thinking, as two figures watched the army from the top of the hill.
Alnus Hill top
Dora's POV
Honestly, I almost felt sorry for these sons of bitches. Key word, almost. If they really thought they can attack us at night, they surely should be put in mentally ill center.
"A lot."Fatima said, standing next to me.
"True is true."I replied."But who cares? You saw what we did with the ones earlier?"
Fatima looked at me with asking look.
"So I guess, we should get to work?"
"Yes, we should."
I put the binoculars down and grabbed my assault riffle. Next, I loaded the shell to grenade launcher and turned to the Marines standing next to us.
"Flares in the air!"I ordered.
Soon, ten high-power flares zoomed through the air and exploded over the enemy troops, showing them to us.
With Elbe's army…
At the same time, Duran's men were blinded by the light that suddenly appeared over their heads. Soldiers in amazement watched these yellow stars falling slowly towards the ground, at the same time showing their position to the enemy.
Duran immediately decided to work. He started riding towards the enemy position.
"Charge!"he ordered."Knights first! Infantry, back them up!"
Soldiers listened to their King and started charging up the hill, following their leader.
However, what Duran didn't noticed, was a barbed wire in the trench in front of him. Horse under the King trembled on the wire and threw it's rider forward.
"Your Highness, wait for us!"one of soldiers said.
Right then, ten flashes flew from the top of the hill and hit the army, exploding and throwing his men in the air. Soon, hundreds of smaller flashes appeared.
As this was happening, soldiers opened the barbed wire and surrounded his King. Once they helped him stand up, he exclaimed:
"Run! Run for your lives!"
But it was too late. Soldiers around Duran started being hit by the flashes, which penetrated the shields and armor. This completely broken the King.
He started walking towards the hill, missed by the flashes, but one of them bounced from his helmet. He picked up the bow and aimed at the hill.
"BASTARDS!"he shouted, firing the arrow, which didn't even reached the top.
King looked around at the carnage and asked himself:
"How could this happen?"
And then, he understood. Imperial Army was supposed to help them. Yet, they didn't even appeared. Instead, Allied Armies were sent to fight the enemy, which could easily wipe them out within seconds. Molt surely knew about it. He had to know. He lost sixty percent of his army.
So he sent Allied Kingdoms at Alnus, to just get rid of possible danger for Sadera. To keep himself at power.
"Molt."Duran said."You son of a whore…"
Not knowing what to do next, Duran started to laugh like a madman, right when artillery shell landed next to him.
Around ten minutes later, all of his night raid forces were decimated. Battle of Alnus was ended with decisive Resistance victory.
The next day…
It didn't took long for the battlefield to become a restaurant for vultures, which started to appear with the sunrise. They started to feast on the dead and fill the air with their squawks.
Ester was overlooking the aftermath of the battle with her binoculars. She stopped and sighed.
"Something wrong?"Dora asked.
Ester looked at her and smiled.
"No. It's just…How many we actually killed here?"she asked.
"Coroners say, that around sixty thousand."Dora replied.
"Sixty thousand…"Ester murmured.
She then knelt and picked up a broken bow.
"The same as in Terhis. Who do we even fighting?"Ester wondered.
"Some bad Empire, which wanted to get rid of possible danger."Dora summed."Something like that often happens. You heard what Viricons did to their satellite states during war with Hadadrians thirty years ago?"
Ester nodded. During their war with Hadadrians, Viricons first threw soldiers of their satellite states on the front lines. Then, when they were almost wiped out, Viricons put their army to work.
"True is true."Ester agreed and threw the bow away.
And when it hit the ground, they heard a growl of pain. The two looked at each other.
"You heard it, right?"Ester asked.
"Sure."Dora said.
They quickly made their way towards the place, where bow fell. There, they saw a man, dressed in an royal looking armor with eye-patch. He missed his leg and arm. But, much to their surprise, was still breathing.
"He's alive!"Ester gasped in surprise.
"Not for long."Dora said, taking her knife.
She wanted to come up to the man and end his misery, but was stopped by Ester.
"No. You can't do that."she ordered.
"Why?"Dora asked."I'm sure he wouldn't hesitate."
"But look at what he's wearing. It looks, like he is some highly-positioned individual."Ester explained."He might have some useful intel."
Dora once more looked at the man and at Ester. She sighed and hid her knife with the rest of her blades.
"Okay. But if he tries something, I personally cut him to pieces."Dora pointed out.
"Of course."Ester said, patting her arm."But first, let me call some medical team."
Ester turned out and called the base's medical squad.

Imperial Palace, Sadera
An minister entered the throne room and knelt in front of the Emperor. He looked at him and said:
"Your Highness. Our vassals' armies were annihilated at Alnus and their leaders were killed."
Molt smiled.
"Everything according to plan."he said."Now, we don't have to worry about them and can focus on enemy."
"What should we do then?"minister asked.
"Our enemy will probably start marching on the capital."Molt stated."We should burn every village and poison all water sources between Sadera and Alnus."
"You're proposing Scorched Earth policy then? Our taxes income will drop, but I think we need to take this risk."
Emperor just nodded in response.
"Father!"young female voice said.
Both men turned around, to see a young woman wearing armor enter the throne room. Once she approached them, minister bowed.
"Princess Pina Co Lada."he said.
"What do you need, my daughter?"Molt asked.
Pina pointed at the minister.
"I'm sure, that he already told you about the defeat the Allied Army suffered from the hands of the enemy occupying the Holy Hill?"Princess asked.
"Yes, he did."Molt replied, while minister was looking at the Princess with asking look.
"And have you mentioned all the soldiers captured by the enemy?"Pina asked again.
Minister immediately shot back:
"You can be calm about them! We're currently recruiting more soldiers and soon, we'll be ready to strike at the enemy and rescue our men!"
"And have you thought, how long will it take? This delay might led to enemy killing our men!"
Emperor observed the argument between his daughter and the minister, until he stood up.
"I ordered this delay myself, Pina."Molt said."But still, we need to scout our enemies and know, who they are exactly. This is the task for your order of knights."
Pina looked at her father with surprise.
"My order?"she asked.
"Indeed."Molt replied."Of course, if this whole order isn't just the plaything for you and your friends, who like to pretend to be knights."
Pina nodded.
"Of course, father."she said."Let me inform them and we'll depart even today!"
"I wish you success."Emperor said.
With these words, Princess left the throne room.

And so, another chapter done. Soon, we're gonna reach the part, in which the Flame Dragon is gonna get involved in the story.
To it, I think you already figured out, who did Ester and Dora found on the battlefield. Because, well. Eye-patch says everything, right? But anyway, this is all I had to tell for now. However, before we end…
