Off we go with another chapter. As we ended Battle of Alnus, we can now move into the Recon Teams part. And, as you might expect, I replaced anime and manga characters with my OCs. To it, before we begin the voyage of Recon Team Three, we're gonna see, what happened with Imperial soldiers from Terhis and the man found by Ester and Dora.

Chapter 4

Planet Veralla IV, Veralla System, Resistance controlled space
It's been some time, since Loganus and other remains of his expeditionary force were shipped to the planet. He didn't expected to get somewhere like this place. He remembered what happened until now.
After the defeat in Terhis, Loganus and his men were placed into something, what resembled the Colosseum. Very big Colosseum. Here, he learned, that except of him and his surviving guards, there were also 2,200 more men.
Really? From over 60,000, just 2,250 survived? Loganus still couldn't believe in the power the enemies had. He still remembered the men made of steel. Metal ogres and metal dragons. Everything, what simply destroyed his forces in one, swift strike.
After around three days in Terhis Arena, which was temporary changed into POW camp, they were informed, that they were going to be moved. Where? He didn't knew then. But the same day, he and his men were loaded on of these giant shapes, which fell from the skies at the end of the battle.
Inside of the shape, he saw numerous more metal dragons and ogres, as well as something, what resembled metal elephants. But they were led to higher levels and placed in rather comfortable rooms. From the rooms, he could see the city below, thanks to the windows.
But what terrified him and his men the most, was when the giant shapes started to flying higher and higher into the clouds and soon, where engulfed by flames. He heard their screams of fear coming from other rooms. But enemy soldiers were calm, as nothing was happening. He didn't knew why then.
Soon, flames were gone and the transport was on the planet's orbit. Loganus was just amazed by the sight below him. He was seeing the entire word, which he wanted to conquer. Blue ball, with several green continents. It was probably the most breathtaking view he ever saw.
But he could watch only for few seconds, as soon, ship jumped and now, Loganus could see blue energy tunnel in which ship was traveling. It was when general decided to take quick nap.
Not long after, he was woken up by his guard, which was a Chakdrik Marine. Ant-like alien led general to the hangar, where other survivors of battle were already gathered. Next, they were led to the main ramp of the ship, which started to lower.
And when it did, soldiers felt the smell of sulfur. This didn't meant anything good. Ramp soon lowered fully and Imperial soldiers felt cold hand on their throats.
What they were seeing, was something, what looked like they landed in the domain of Hardy herself. Red mountains everywhere, dark clouds over their heads and rivers of lava everywhere. And they had to be placed there.
General and his men were led to the giant building in the middle of what looked like military complex and there, their armor was replaced with strange, white suits. The commander of this complex told them, that white suits are needed, so the heat from lava rivers won't be so nagging. Soldiers were surprised, hearing him speak their language.
Next, they were directed to the mining facility, where they ordered to dig out what seemed to be titanium. They were instructed how to use strange devices called 'pneumatic hammer'. Loganus felt disgraced. Why didn't they put him in their important prisoners compartment. They didn't knew how to treat high value prisoners?
But he couldn't say anything about it. They were the overlords here and he truly didn't wanted to know their bad side.
At least for now.

Alnus Hill, Alnus Base Hospital
The headache was total. He was feeling, like his head was about to explode. What shouldn't be surprising, after what happened. He witnessed whole armies being wiped out from the face of earth in just mere minutes. He would be among them too, but somehow, he was still alive.
Duran didn't knew where he was. He just woke up and barely could open his eye. But what could be said, was that he was in some kind of white room.
"Is this…the Underworld?"he asked himself.
"Hey, he's awake!"female voice said.
Duran started looking around and saw a blurred image of a person. It approached him and looked at him.
"Excuse me, sir."the person said."How do you feel?"
"Wha…What?"asked King, don't knowing the language, but he knew she was Human.
"Oh, right, language. Wait a minute."she said and walked away.
King's vision then started to become sharper and he looked around. He was in a white room, true. He saw rows of strange beds and numerous strange devices standing next to the wall. He also felt, that something stings his arm. He looked around and saw more people in white attires he never seen before.
And then he understood. He was there. He was captured by them.
He was in the enemy base.
"Lord Flare, save me…"he said.
Soon, the same female returned and Duran was taken aback by what accompanied her. It was an ant, standing on two legs and walking like a human, wearing the attire resembling the one worn by other people in the white room.
The two came up to King and Human woman said something to the ant and the ant said:
"Good morning, sir. How do you feel?"
King looked at the ant-like eyes and nodded his head. But truly, he was surprised, by how culturally and with how much respect they were talking to him.
"I feel…good."he said, unsure.
Ant nodded and translated it to the woman. She nodded too and again asked something. Ant turned back to Duran.
"We would like to know your name, sir."ant asked.
Duran looked at the two suspiciously.
"Why is that? What do you want?"he asked.
"Our leaders would like to meet and talk with you."ant replied.
King blinked. Enemy leaders wanted to meet and talk with him? Although he was their prisoner? Also, why these two were so nice to him? They had to hide something.
"I'm King Duran of the Kingdom of Elbe."Duran introduced himself.
The two looked at each other. They expected a highly positioned individual. But they didn't expected it to be the King.
"Where am I?"Duran asked.
"You're in our base's hospital."ant explained.
"Hos…pital?"King asked, don't knowing the name.
"It's place, where we treat people. We found you and some of your soldiers on the battlefield and took care of you."
This made Duran wide eye. These 'barbarians', as Molt called them, decided willingly to treat him and some of his men. But why? They were enemies and Duran was sure, that any survivors would be finished by the enemy. Yet, they decided to help him.
"And where are these men that survived?"King wanted to know.
"In another tent. Trust us, they feel good and are in much better shape."ant explained."Well then. Will you meet with our leaders?"
Duran nodded.
"If you willingly help me and my men, then yes. I will."he said.
"Great. Now, wait just two more days sometime, before your leg and arm will grow back."
King tilted his head.
"Grow back?"
He then looked at his arm. Once again, he widened his eye, seeing, that his lost arm was actually growing back. He could see the substitute of hand and fingers, as well as the forearm. He looked under the quilt and saw, that his leg is in the same state.
"What kind of magic is that?"Duran asked.
"It's not magic. It's bio-gel."ant said."A special substance, which supports the regeneration abilities of the body and is replacing lost body parts with new ones."
"I think I understand…"Duran said."And…can I know your names?"
"Of course. The Human here is doctor Duo Chungzi. And I'm doctor Maxec Korix. See you in two days."doctor Maxec said and the two walked away.
Leaving Duran with his own thoughts and growing arm and leg.

Alnus Base Quartermaster
In the very morning, Ester was called to the quartermaster tent. She didn't knew why, but from previous experience she knew one thing: never ignore the quartermaster, or you will be clearing ship's barracks for two months.
So she entered the tent and approached the Nashini sitting behind the desk and looking into the papers. Girl saluted.
"Wanted to see me, sir?"Ester asked.
"Yes, major."quartermaster replied."At ease."
Ester stood at ease and waited for him to continue.
"As you probably know, major, this is completely new world. Even new star system. But currently, we're interested only in this planet."quartermaster said.
"I'm aware of that, sir."Ester replied.
Quartermaster reached some papers and looked in them. Next, he gave one of them to Ester.
"To see what are we dealing with, we need to know how this planet operates. Religion, trade, ruling system and the people themselves. This is why we're sending six recon teams to scout the further area. You got the command over Recon Team Three. Names of the team members are written on this paper."
"Thank you, sir."Ester said, saluting, and left the tent.
Outside, Dora was already waiting for her. She joined her and followed Ester through the base.
"What was it about?"Dora asked.
Ester gave the paper to her.
"I was assigned as leader of Recon Team Three with you, Lena, Liz, Yuko, Suv, Jackie and Fatima. We will be joined by two Nashini, two Shakayans and one Chakdrik."Ester explained.
"And what about the rest?"Dora said, looking at the names of the team members.
"Others said, that our fighters are gonna be shipped here soon, so they wanted to wait. Probably they also be assigned to such recon teams."
"Only pity is that Suvi goes with us. Hope she won't try anything inappropriate with the locals…"Dora wondered.
"We can only pray."Ester summed.
Soon, they reached the place where Third Recon was assembled. There, alongside their squadron members, soldiers from alien nations were present. Behind them were three vehicles: two European armored cars and one American armored personnel carrier.
Team immediately saluted, once their commanders approached them.
"Sirs!"they all said.
"At ease."Ester ordered.
Everyone stood in at ease position.
"Excuse my rudeness, but could aliens introduce themselves?"Ester asked, pointing at the alien members of the team.
Alien members of Third Recon stepped forward.
"Captain Lon'Azaka, 76th Marine Battalion."first Nashini said.
"Lieutenant Jor'Madi, 5th Nashini Fighter Infantry Regiment."second Nashini said.
"Corporal Kelf Magor, 55th Engineers Battalion."first Shakayan said.
"Corporal Jeri Dored, 90th Marines Regiment."second Shakayan said.
"Private Wexer Nogara, 3rd Chakdrik Fighter Infantry Regiment."Chakdrik said.
Ester nodded and approached her squadron members.
"Lena, what do we have here?"she asked.
Lena approached the vehicles and pointed at them.
"We have one Land Rover Striker, one Catcher APC and one Fennek Mk.7."the Russian said.
"Fennek Mk.7? Never heard of."Dora said.
"Because we have one of first models that just left the factory. New Fenneks are equipped with radar, sonar, ATGM launcher, .50 cal machine gun and optical camo."Lena explained.
Dora looked at the new and fresh armored car. She so wanted to take control of it's armament.
"Ester, can I…?"Dora asked her friend and commander.
"Sure."Ester replied, knowing what Dora was asking about.
She then turned to the team.
"Okay, guess you were briefed on our goal?"Everyone nodded."Great. Remember. We have to know as many things about the local people as possible. Don't do anything inappropriate and show your best side, if we want them to like us."She then narrowed her eyes."It was mainly to you, Suvi."
Martian-Finnish girl threw up her arms and scoffed with reproach.
"Why do you always tell this to me?"she asked.
"Knowing your nature?"Yuko asked."I guess you would try to pick up on every guy and girl we meet."
"And pull them to bed."Jackie added.
Suvi tried to object, but she let it go. Mainly because she would do it.
"Anyway, we're about to move out. Load up, people! Me, Liz, Yuko and Fatima-Land Rover. Kelf, Jor and Dora-Fennek. Rest, take the Catcher."Ester ordered.
"Understood!"everyone said and loaded into the vehicles.
Soon, the column of three vehicles left the base through the gate and started driving down the road leading into the Alnus Province.
Few minutes later…
Alnus Express Way
Three vehicles were speeding down the road through the countryside. From all sides, they were surrounded by the green glades and far in the distance, they could see high mountains, which towered over the area. In the skies, they were seeing white clouds and groups of birds flying by. It was nice, especially for White Squadron members.
"It reminds me of Earth a lot."Liz said, which was driving the Land Rover, said."Especially the British countryside."
"Yeah, it looks like Earth around seven hundred years ago."Yuko said.
Everyone in the Land Rover looked at her.
"Hey, modern Earth isn't so bad either. At least, we have a lot of green energy."Fatima said.
Girls nodded. Modern Earth was completely sufficient on the green energy due to the events of First Tertan War over one hundred thirty years ago. Tertans destroyed majority of power producing facilities and because of that, Earth's governments decided to completely turn from natural resources to sun, water and wind energy. Of course, problems with smog and other pollution was still there, but not as big as century earlier.
"I guess you're right."Yuko agreed, as they passed stone construction on the hill.
"Hey, they even have their Stonehenge."Liz pointed out.
"True. Interesting, eh?"Ester stated.
She then looked at her hand terminal and pressed the screen to turn on the map. Map appeared and showed all of the area mapped by the drones.
"So, where are we going first?"Liz asked.
"Let me see…"Ester said and pointed at small dot on the map."There's a village not far away from there. We could try and make contact with natives there."
"Sounds good to me."Liz stated.
Column then took a side path leading to the said village.

Coda Village
It was another calm day in the small village. Of course, people were aware of the recent events, but as for now, nothing was happening to them, so they actually didn't care. Village was as calm as always.
"Good morning, Marcus!"a young woman said to the elder man.
"Good morning, Sheila."Marcus, village's elder, said.
Marcus was preparing for this year's yields check up. But, unfortunately, he knew, that this year is worse than the last or the one before last. But still, it was something and they were going to have something to eat.
"Eh, I'm getting too old for this."Marcus stated.
Suddenly, Marcus saw a group of children running towards him. Children stopped and looked at him.
"What is it?"Marcus asked.
"Something is on the road."a boy said.
Marcus gave them asking look.
"Something?"
"Yes, it looks like horseless carriages and are coming closer to the village."a girl said.
Elder frowned. Horseless carriages? Something like that was not possible. Although…Survivors from beyond the Gate were telling about horseless carriages. And soldiers not using hand-to-hand weapons.
He then understood, what was going on.
"It's the Other Worlders…"he said."Everyone! Quickly hide and not come out!"
All around the village, people started running to their houses to hide from these 'barbarians'. If all gossips were true, they will probably try to burn and rob the village.
Marcus hoped they will just pas by.
Meanwhile, on the road leading to the village, column of Resistance vehicles was closing on the village fast. Everyone were a bit nervous about the meeting.
"What is the plan, Estie?"Liz asked.
Ester rubbed her chin and thought. Next, she grabbed the radio.
"First, I think that we shouldn't bring vehicles in at the beginning."she said."We will go just in four. Rest will wait for our signal."
Three vehicles stopped. Soldiers quickly exited and stood in front of them.
"So, who is going?"Suvi asked.
"Me, Yuko, Dora and Fatima. Rest will wait for my signal, as I said."Ester said and everyone nodded.
Not long after, four Fighter Infantry departed for the village. They were walking down the road for some time, until they saw the village. They then quickly hid in the bushes and scanned the area.
Village looked like every medieval village you could imagine. Several cottages surrounded by a small wooden palisade, with larger building, probably warehouses. But nobody could be seen around.
"A bit empty."Yuko stated.
"Yeah. I expected more people."Ester said."But we should scout the area. Who will go first?"
"I can do it."Fatima said.
Ester nodded.
"Sure. But be careful out there. Yuko, cover her."she said.
Yuko nodded and looked down the sight of her Remington R-88 sniper riffle. Fatima, in the meantime, left the cover and took off her helmet.
Fatima's POV
I slowly stood up and took my helmet off. I did it, so people could see that I'm a Human too. Next, I crossed the village's gate and entered inside. I could feel the eyes of my friends focused on me.
I came up to the closest cottage and knocked on the door. There was no response, but I could hear something moving inside, so someone should be there. But I guessed they were simply scared. Well, can't blame them.
Next, I turned in the direction of one of warehouses and looked inside. There, I saw some horses, sheep and other animals. They seemed to be scared too. Animals often feel when people are scared.
I then heard a door opening. I quickly looked behind and saw a young boy standing in the door of a house and looking at me. We stared at each other for few seconds, unsure what to do.
His mother then exited to pull him inside and also looked at me. I smiled warmly and waved to them.
Woman seemed to be somehow calmed by this, so I waved to the others. Ester came out of the hiding and waved too.
"I think it's safe."I said.
Later…
After assuming, that Resistance soldiers had no bad intentions, the inhabitants of the village started to come out of their houses and interact with them. Ester contacted the rest of their convoy and told them to come. People in the village were more calm, seeing that all the Humans in the team are girls. Villagers were at first a bit reluctant during interactions with Nashini, Shakayans and Chakdrik, but after some time, they started to get along pretty well.
Marcus watches this with smile on his face. Imperial government was telling, that these Other Worlders were wild barbarians, wanting to plunder, rape and kill. Yet, here they were, talking to the people.
"Thank you for such a welcome."Ester said, using language guides from official guidebook and trying some local bread."It's better than the one back home!"
"I'm glad you liked it."Marcus said."Now, why did you came to our quiet village?"
Ester swallowed another piece of bread and looked at him.
"We're new here, so we wanted to know the area. Are there any other settlements?"she asked, reaching for another piece.
Marcus though about it for a moment and nodded.
"Yes. There is a village in the nearby forest. It's pretty friendly place."Marcus said.
"Thank you."Ester said.
Coda Village elder then looked in the direction, where children were playing with the other members of the Recon Three. He saw that ant-looking creature picking up a wagon with ease. This was pretty impressive.
"That ant Beast Man is strong."Marcus said.
"It's nothing special. Chakdrik not only look like ants, but have some of their features. It means their strength and the collective ideals. But they live short."Ester explained.
"How long exactly?"Marcus wanted to know, interested in these 'Chakdrik'.
"As long, as Pharaoh's Ant, so from four to twelve months."Ester replied."Wexer here, being two months old, is actually teenager."
Marcus looked at Wexer. He put the wagon down and now, started picking up children with one finger, what made them laugh. It was a little pity, that he will live only for one year. But it seemed, like this is how this race simply was.
"Anyway, thank you. We'll be going now. See you soon!"Ester said and all soldiers went to their vehicles.
Soon, sound of engine was heard and column drove away, farewell by the village inhabitants.
"Pretty nice people."Ester said, looking in the mirror.
"Yeah, seems like not all of the Imperials are bad."Yuko said.
"We only fought soldiers."Fatima pointed out."Civilians are completely different story."
Other passengers of Land Rover nodded in agreement.
"So"Ester said, activating her map"the village Marcus was talking about, is around ten kilometers away from here. If we keep up, we will reach it by the end of the day."
"Sounds good enough for me."Liz said.
Three vehicles then sped down the road towards the new village.
Meanwhile…
Somewhere in Alnus province…
A number of horses was throwing the cloud of dust into the air, as they sped down the road towards Alnus. Members of Rose Knights Order were tasked with not only scouting the area around the Holy Hill, but also warn the local populace about the danger of the Other Worlders.
Pina was riding in the front of the group, slightly concerned about what might happen. It was the very first combat deployment of her group and she still didn't knew, if it was the good idea. But she had to show her father, that her order is worth of it's existence.
"What is our next stop?"Hamilton asked.
"The nearest one is Werkin's Bay."Pina replied."It's biggest river port in this part of Alnus."
Werkin's Bay was a port town on the Tyran River. Town already was over three hundred years old and was often chosen as the stop of numerous merchants and other travelers moving up the river. It was also sometimes used Imperial Navy naval base.
But it was also the place, where both men and Beast Men were living side by side. And was not as supportive towards Sadera as in the first days.
Anyway, knights were just about to pass over the hill, from which they could see the town. And once they did it, they stood still.
"What is going on there?"Pina asked.
Over the town, several pillars of smoke could be visible. There were no screams, but everyone could figure out what was happening.
"Someone attacked them."Grey said."And it seems like they are not doing well."
"Agreed. We need to help them."Pina stated.
Soon, all knights were speeding down the road towards Werkin's Bay. On their left, the mighty Tyran River was flowing, like nothing happened. Coming closer and closer, knights were concerned, why there are no screams. They hoped they were not late…
Once they reached and crossed the town's gate, they again stood still. As around them, people were simply clearing the dead bodies of the dead bandits, which raided the town. Fight surely was bloody, but, much to knights' surprise, there were only bandit bodies.
"They…handled them all alone?"Hamilton asked, a bit surprised.
In that moment, people noticed the knights and gathered around, both people and demi-humans.
"What are you doing here?"the town's elder asked.
Pina noticed, that he had rather unfriendly tone. She decided to not pay attention on this and started speaking:
"We were sent here by my father to warn you about Other Worlders. But as we saw the smokes, we decided to help you in fighting."
"How did you even defeated all of these bandits?"Hamilton asked.
Elder and other town's people looked at each other.
"We didn't. Other Worlders did."elder replied.
There was a moment of silence, as two groups stared at each other. Pina was the first one to shook herself.
"Other Worlders? They were here?"she asked.
"Yes, they left around half and hour before you arrived."elder replied."They arrived to the town, right when the bandits attacked. They defended Werkin's Bay and didn't even wanted anything for doing this."
Pina looked at the rest of her knights. They came too late indeed. Other Worlders were here already. And listening to the tone of the elder, it seemed obvious, that Other Worlders already became liked here. This only made Pina feel worse.
"Now, if you excuse us"elder said"we need to clear the bodies and burn them. Farewell."
With that said, elder and town's people turned around and returned to their duties. Leaving even more concerned knights.
If Other Worlders were here, then why and what did they wanted? Why they didn't attacked the town, but defended it? And why they didn't wanted anything for this? So many questions, so few answers.
Knights simply turned around and left the town.
Back with Third Recon…
"Hey, I see smoke in the distance."Dora reported from the Fennek.
All eyes and vehicle cameras immediately turned in the said direction. She was right. In the distance, they could see smoke. A lot of smoke to it.
"Looks like a solid fire."Jackie noticed.
"Agreed. We should check this?"Yuko asked.
"Of course. It's better to know, what makes this smoke, right?"Ester stated.
Others agreed with her and drivers floored the speed pedals. All three vehicles were driving in that direction with their full speed.
It didn't took them long to reach the edge of a cliff, overlooking the giant forest. They exited their vehicles and looked at the forest, which was engulfed in giant wave of flames. They stared at it for a while.
"Even forest fires on Shakaya weren't that big."Kelf stated. Shakaya was a planet known from it's numerous and big forest fires.
Ester took her binoculars and looked in the direction of the forest. She scanned the area, looking for any sign of life. And then, she noticed movement between the flames. It was a creature. Giant, red, flying creature, which started to breath fire on the forest.
"What is that?"Wexer asked.
"Looks like a European dragon."Ester stated."Wyverns, trolls, ogres and European dragons. I think we have entire Earth's mythology here."
"Seems like it."Lon agreed."Should we go and investigate?"
Third Recon members looked at the Nashini.
"Sorry, stupid question."he said.
"No, no. We will go there. But after it all calms down."Ester said.
And then, Dora reminded about something.
"Wait. Didn't Coda elder said, that this another village is in that forest?"she said.
Everyone looked at her and then at the forest, feeling hollow in their stomachs, as they started to understand, what just happened here in front of them.
"God…"Liz murmured.
"Yahwe, save us…"Fatima added.
"I think I'm gonna puke."Yuko said.
"Dear Erdros…"Jeri said, bringing the name of Shakayan Goddess of Care.
Resistance soldiers looked at Ester.
"What are the orders, Estie?"Jackie asked.
Ester sighed and replied:
"We're gonna wait, as I said. Tomorrow in the morning, we're gonna go and investigate the village."
"I have a bad feelings about this."Suvi said.
"Me too. But we have to look for survivors."Ester stated.
Soldiers nodded and returned to their vehicles. Ester one more time looked at the forest. Dragon was already flying away.
"Hope you pay for what you did, you red son of a bitch."she thought.
Next, she also returned to the Land Rover, where, like Liz, Yuko and Fatima, she fell asleep, comforted by her uniform's heating function.
The next day…

Villager ruins
As the sun started to rise, all fire vanished and Third Recon Team could move into the forest to investigate the village. As they expected, only thing they saw, were ruins of the village, which laid in the forest.
Vehicles stopped and soldiers left them. They started scouting the area.
"Suv."Ester pointed out."No lewd jokes, understood?"
"Estie."Suvi replied."Trust me. Even I don't want to make my lewd jokes in such situation."
At one point, Wever stopped upon a burned body. It was reduced to simple figure made of ash. Chakdrik wanted to say something, but was stopped by Liz.
"Don't."was the only thing she said.
It was enough to keep Wexer from any comment.
Soon, Ester sat down at the edge of the well. She took her water bottle and quickly emptied it. Soon, Lon approached her and saluted.
"Sir."Nashini said."Reporting, that we found thirty four structures resembling buildings. To it, twenty bodies."
"If we consider, that five people lived in every building, we have over one hundred people. Not enough."Ester counted.
"They probably were burred under the rubbish."Lon stated.
Ester looked at him.
"Any survivors?"she asked with hope.
"Negative."Lon said, shaking his triangular-shaped head.
Girl sighed and looked at the bottle.
"So I think, that we have no other option, but to go further."Ester said, throwing the bottle into the well.
And soon, she heard a sound. Not splash, but as if the bottle hit something…solid. She turned to the well.
"What was that?"she asked.
Nashini took his flashlight and turned it on. Next, he directed it down the well. What they saw, made them gasp in surprise.
"There is someone in the well!"Ester exclaimed.

And here we come to an end of another chapter. Flame Dragon is here and soon, it will not make life easy for the Third Recon. But now, they need to take care of pulling the person from the well. But this in the next chapter.
