Disclaimers – I do not own any of these characters, and this is yaoi so if you don't like BL, then don't read. Also, this story does not follow the plot of the anime or manga, very AU and OOC

Important Info: Zero is 100% human (still a hunter) which means Kaname did give him his blood for Yuki's sake, and he doesn't have the tattoo on his neck, everyone knows Yuki is a pureblood and Kaname's sister, she lives with the night class, the Kuran family was destroyed (Kaname and Yuki being the only survivors), and the Kiryu family is alive and thus Zero doesn't hate vampires although he still has a general dislike for them

Thoughts

Note- I almost completely changed Kaname's backstory with the Hooded Women and the vampires from 10,000 years ago.

Chapter 2

"Are you really sure about this, Kaname-sama?" Aido asked for the fourth time. Kaname's inner circle, the vampires he trusted the most, all stood in his room. It was quite odd as Kaname is usually a very private person and no one would dare enter his personal space. Well, maybe except for Zero Kiryu who did not respect (or worship) Kaname like the rest of the Night Class did.

This is a special case. Knowing someone tampered with his memories, Kaname plans to use a combination of spells to break the barrier in his mind. However, there was no telling how long that could take, and it would leave Kaname vulnerable. This is why his inner circle is here, to help perform the spells and protect him while he is essentially stuck in his dreams (memories).

All of them, except Kaname, shuffled and fidgeted in nervousness. Being a pureblood with natural resistances, Kaname would have to consciously lower his defenses so that the spells could work. In addition, if anything went wrong or Kaname lost focus for even a second, the spells would run out of control and lash out against his unprotected mind which would likely kill him, healing factor or not. But Kaname was stubborn, determined to see this through, and honestly? He was pissed that not only someone was trying to screw with him, but it took some random person sending him a letter to realize it.

"Yes. Let's get started."

"Zeroooo! You're back!" Yuki cheered, running towards where Zero stood next to Lily. "Why didn't you come to see me and the Chairmen first?' She pouted.

Zero signed, pulled away from his thoughts of how he was gonna get Kaname to meet with him in private and actually convince him that Zero hasn't just lost his mind. He turns towards Yuki, but never gets that chance to respond.

"Zero!" Yuki suddenly yells in warning, running to try and protect him from an attack aimed at his back. Lily jumps and runs off as both are overtaken by the spell, and fall to the ground unmoving.

She looked… beautiful, grateful, flawless. Kaname was staring at The Hooded Women, as he called her in his head, dreaming of her but never remembering enough of the dream to really think about it.

And then he started to remember.

10,000 years ago, a strange species began to appear around the world. The first vampires were better than humans in so many ways. Some thought they were the next part in human evolution and, eventually, there would be no "weak" humans left. However, they craved blood, and nothing would ever satisfy this thirst. Most of the first generation of vampires went mad and became murderous, killing anything and everything, even their own kind. They were later dubbed "Level E's." But a few of these beings did not give in and their humanity remained intact.

He started at the Hooded Women. He was standing in an open field, watching as the women stood on the edge of a cliff, overlooking the forest that stretched below. She turned and smiled at him. Is she…my love-

His thoughts were suddenly cut off, "Kana!" Someone called from behind him. Turning away from the women he sees… The Sun. His mind suddenly supplied. No one could compare to the beauty and love he felt for the hooded woman, except for that person.

Waist length silver hair. Rare purple eyes. Zero?! Kaname thought in confusion. Impossible, he is human, right? How? What is going on?

Yuki hasn't come back yet. Kaien considered checking the stables, knowing that the first thing Zero probably did was visit Lily after being away for a week.

"Wait, Lily?" Kaien asked himself out loud, spotting Lily moving towards him. That was odd. Lily pretty much hates everyone except Zero. Why was she approaching him? And why isn't Zero with her? "Has something happened?"

lllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

Kaname was crying. He wasn't in the beautiful field anymore. Or near the forest at all. He was in the middle of human civilization. And it was burning.

People cursed him but were too afraid to attack as they struggled to save their loved ones and escape the village. He may have control over his powers, he was truly one of the first purebloods, not at all a Level E, but he was still a vampire. And by simple association, he was hated, blamed. Maybe that's why she hated humanity.

He paid them no attention. The hooded woman stands in front of him, as he kneels on the ground, unbothered by the rain pelting his back. "Kaname!" She kneeled by him. "We need to leave. Don't worry, I already took care of it, I got you now." Her voice was soft, full of concern, and genuine.

"It. How dare you say you took care of it," Kaname snapped, eyes bleeding from clam brown to a furious red.

"What do you mean? I'm here to help, I just saved you!" She exclaimed, genuinely confused.

Kaname let out a hollow laugh. "You truly believe that you helped me? That 'it' was my mate, and you are just a murderer who deluded herself into thinking that destroying everything that I care for is helping me." He was done. He had made excuses for her, defended her, and forgave her. Not this time.

"That wasn't your mate!" Suddenly any calm aura around her was gone, replaced with an uncontrollable, irrational rage. "And those weren't your friends. You were being controlled, used, and tamed like a dog!" She stopped to calm her breathing. "I freed you! Now we are together and everything is okay. Let's finish all of these humans for good."

…Kaname loved humans. They hated him, and he used to return the feeling. But now he knows, he has experienced… they feel happiness and sadness, and physical pain just like vampires do. Humans and vampires aren't so different. Are they truly two separate species?

"Traitor." One word. It changed everything. "You are a threat to me, humans, and vampires." And Kaname vows to end this, end her, right now. His heart burns, and his mind is slipping closer to insanity with the devastating loss of his mate. But he will see this through. Humans will preserve after this. And to ensure that, he will use the very blood and heart of the vampire who loathes them the most.

Notes: Just to clarify, The Hooded Women originally sacrificed herself which led to the creation of hunters and anti-vampire weapons. That still happens, but in this case, Kaname just straight up kills her.

Anyway, plz tell me how the story is going. No beta, let me know if you see any major mistakes or if something doesn't make sense.
