Disclaimers – I do not own any of these characters, and this is yaoi so if you don't like BL, then don't read. Also, this story does not follow the plot of the anime or manga, very AU and OOC

Important Info: Zero is 100% human (still a hunter) which means Kaname did give him his blood for Yuki's sake and he doesn't have the tattoo on his neck, everyone knows Yuki is a pureblood and Kaname's sister, she lives with the night class, the Kuran family was destroyed (Kaname and Yuki being the only survivors), and the Kiryu family is alive and thus Zero doesn't hate vampires although he still has a general dislike for them

Chapter 3

Kaito watched as Kaien passed back and forth by the window passing by Yagari who sat with a seemingly calm expression on his face. Except that he was bouncing his leg up and down in worry. "Will you both stop! That is not helping," he snapped. He didn't really mean it, but they were all on edge. It is day four.

Four days since Kaien found Yuki and Zero unconscious. They still lay, unnervingly still on two beds in the medical center at Cross Academy. There is seemingly nothing wrong with them. Vitals are good, no strange or foreign energies that would indicate the use of a spell, nothing. The only thing that may be a little out of place is the small traces of Yuki's energy found on Zero. Assumably, in an attempt to protect him.

It was hard not to feel restless. The three stood (or sat) in the medical center, unable to do anything. They had attempted to reach Kaname, maybe he could find something wrong with Zero and Yuki, but his inner circle refused to let them through. They had at least been somewhat truthful, saying that Kaname was unable to do anything at the moment. It was obvious they made excuses to the Day Class girls who all returned to the school for the start of a new semester. They also noticed that there were always at least two of Kaname's inner circle missing, claiming to be busy. What they did not expect was for Kaname to suddenly barge into the room.

Flashback (Kaname's room)

Takuma and Ruka were startled as Kaname suddenly shot up on the bed after days of laying, unmoving, exploring his memories. "Kaname-sama!" Ruka explained, rushing to his side. "Are you alright? Do you need blood?" She offered her neck to him. He had never taken blood from his companions, and all vampires were to use blood tables on campus, but he had gone without blood for several days. Surely he would need-

"No." Even as he refused, Kaname's eyes turned red. His head still spinning from the sudden change, he could feel the spells fading, but there was no pain, no crushing headache as he originally assumed there would be. It was not like he had just been told an overwhelming amount of information. No, the memories had immediately settled, as if they were never gone. And then he sensed it. Something was clearly out of place. Like seeing one crocked frame on a wall full of perfectly straight frames. "I have to go."

At this point Takuma stepped forward, knowing the others would be here soon, having sense Kaname awaken. "Kaname-sama," he said calmly in contrast to Ruka's near-panic tone. "Please, let me take a moment to fill you in on the situation. Everything went according to plan, however, while you were asleep Yuki-"

Kaname didn't bother to let him finish. He was already on his feet, heading to the door, not even bothering to put shoes on. "Oh, Kaname-sama." Aido said, not expecting Kaname to open the door as he arrived with everyone else. Kaname did not respond, hardly paying attention to his surroundings as he surged off their worry and made his way past them. They would not forcefully stop him, so at the very least they would follow and support him in any way he needed.

End Flashback

And that is how Kaname ended up at the infirmary, looking disheveled and worried. Yagari stood and Kaien felt relieved as Kaname…walked right past Yuki? Instead, he sat down by Zero and reached to clutch his unmoving hand.

"Hey." Kaito and Yagari were both very wary of Kaname. After being a hunter for years, and considering his past, Yagari doubted he would ever trust anyone from the Night Class. And out of both of his students, Kaito had been the one to follow him in that belief. And it was definitely strange. Yuki was his sister and he was quite protective of her, but he didn't even bat an eye, seeing her lying there, motionless. And his relationship with Zero was…well, saying they tolerated each other as acquaintances was probably being generous.

The rest of Kaname's followers stood by the door as Zero started to slowly shift and wake up. "How-" Kaien questioned, hope welling up inside. "Zero! Thank goodness. Kaname! Can you help Yuki too?"

"Sorry, I can't. Special circumstances have to be met. But," Kaname continued, "the spell should be broken if we stop the caster."

"So it was a spell. How come we couldn't detect it?" Yagari asked, suspicious of Kaname. What kind of 'circumstances' would Zero meet that Yuki could not meet? And there just happens to be a spell that Kaname can immediately identify, but serval trained hunters can not? He didn't get an answer as everyone's attention was drawn to Zero, who finally sits up. Yagari watches as several different emotions cross the white-haired perfect's face- confusion, recognition, and finally, anger.

"Hey," Zero greets Kaname first, smiling softly. Kaname smiles back, and everyone in the room realizes there is some sort of new understanding between the two.

"Hey," Kaname replies, leaning forward.

"The fuck do you think you're doing!" Yagari explains, he and Kaito reaching for their weapons. Kaname bite into Zero's neck. The hunters panicked. Kaname is a pureblood. Zero is human. The venom will turn him into a Level E. This is going to ruin Zero's life. Everything, no, no-

Zero didn't even flinch. In fact, he readjusted, turning towards Kaname a little more and tilting his head to the side. "It's alright," he said calmly. He put a hand up, motioning for Yagari and Kaito to stop before things got out of hand.

Kaito froze, "Alright?!" He questioned Zero. Had he lost his mind? "How- he- you," he struggled to wrap his mind around what is happening.

"Will you all just stop for a minute and let me explain?!" Zero raised his voice as Kaname slowly pulled away, licking his neck to encourage the wound to close. Yagari wasn't listening. The next thing anyone knew, Kaname's back was against a wall and a shotgun to his chest. He was pissed. Despite his cold exterior, he really did care for Zero like his own.

"Master!" He heard Zero call through the haze of his anger. A hand landed on his shoulder and white hair flooded his vision. "Look, I'm not hurt or in pain. Does it look like I'm transforming?" Zero reasoned. He's right. The transformation from a vampire was excruciatingly painful, so much so that many victims actually died from shock before their transformation could even be complete. Yagari relaxed minutely, taking a small step back, but kept his weapon trained a Kaname's heart.

The room went silent and he realized that he was surrounded. During his attack, the other vampires had jumped into action, moving to stop both him and Kaito. "Let's all take a breath and calm down for a moment." Rima's voice caught everyone's attention. Every vampire in the room looked to Kaname who nodded in agreement.

"Now," Zero started as the tension in the room slowly receded. "We should probably explain and decide how to handle the one who attacked us."
